Oh no, you put olive oil on the sardines before grilling them! Never do that, it's a culinary capital sin! 😱 The only seasoning that should be put on the sardines before going to the grill is salt.

We had the opportunity to have fresh sardines while visiting Lisbon but “chickened out.” Now I wish we hadn’t since sardines are very healthy. We did buy and brought home sardine paté since you can’t find them here in the US. The paté is but I bet those fresh ones taste a whole lot better. 😋 All the best to you both. 👋🏻

They are! And the Portuguese canned sardines are delicious as well. Plus they are really very good for you - the ones in olive oil.
