That’s a great effort to get the fruit to grow in your area Ben 👍

Rollinia in Sydney is really pushing the boundary. Great effort and hopefully you'll get better fruit as tree matures.

Catching up on your videos I was thrilled to see you harvest your first Rollinia. Just like my first custard apples and cherimoyas, they taste bland initially in cooler zones until the tree matures. I'm positive that future fruit will taste like sweet lemon jelly. Well done!!

Thanks George, yes I’m hoping that’s it and they just get better with time.

That is fantastic to have gotten fruit. It's grown nicely on espalier and that would help with the wind.
Hopefully you get fruit in sync with summer next time

Hmm, looks like the weather of Sydney is warmer than Tokyo because you can grow Rollinia.
The ripen fruit in tropics tastes like pudding made from yogurt. Maybe the reason of fragrant is low temperature. However you did well.👍️

Yes in winter we are warmer than Tokyo, and winter is the critical time for these trees survival. I’ve tried the ripe fruit before in the tropics, probably my favourite fruit!

Congratulations on the first fruit, can only get better! I would assume it would be similar to when you get papaya in winter, lacking flavour and sweetness.

Yeah I think they’ll get better in future. First fruits are always notorious for not being the best, main thing is they’re fruiting now.

maybe you could put a mini greenhouse over them in winter?

Tree does ok over winter, but possibly a large zip lock bag in the fruit could act like a greenhouse. Might try that.

Was the parent plant a seedling Ben?

I assume so. Most Rollinia is grown from seed. Got it from a fruit I bought either in FNQ or tropical fruit world.
