I bought this after watching your video and I am extremely frustrated. It works yes but only for a few minutes then drops to a black screen showing the Bluetooth connection. I have to hit refresh and it comes back and the whole sequence just repeats over and over again. It’s unusable.
This could/should have been a six minute video. The core of it was helpful.
I went thru the involved process of setting this up. Then it connects to carplay only 10 % of the time. So back it goes. Too temperamental for my liking.

Hi love the video. Question: I am currently waiting for delivery of 2023 Model Y long range (expected this month sometime). I am going to be using the car for deliveries and wondering if I can do something similar in your video, but not sure if this is possible. If I have an app on my phone can I run any app on the screen or can you only just screen share it to the screen? I qm in particular wondering if I can run Walmart Spark app, Instacart, and Ubereats because I have them on my phone. Also being able to control it from the Tesla screen would be amazing because then I could just leave my phone in the charger and simply run it all from the Tesla screen. I guess my concern is whether I could run any app on my phone with this setup where I can also control it from the Tesla touchscreen or if in order to use it I would have to screen share my phone to the Tesla touchscreen (to see it better) and instead run the apps from my phone itself. What do you think? Any thoughts on this scenario?
I drive rideshare as well and think as long as Apple has CarPlay support like Uber does should be able to run it through the screen for directions and to accept rides. Not sure if other apps have CarPlay support. That is the key if the app is on CarPlay should be able to use on the screen with this.

@@precizshun Its Good, there were some imperfections in hood getting looked at to see if they can replace it a half dollar sized dent and a pebble mark indent. Besides this everything seems good. It came with system 4.0, The only thing I am getting used to is resetting the computer (clearing the cache), it seems like I have to do this 1-2 times a week or every 4-10 days for it not to freeze up or get buggy while driving and then I have to reset it while driving (which tesla does not recommend unless you absolutely have to). So as long as the hood gets fixed or replaced with my warranty. And as long as the computer is operating like normal everything is perfect. Honestly the hood is not super bad if I just leave it as is I doubt most could see the mark or small dent, but I was meticulously checking everything when I got it and noticed the mark on day 2 and brought it in right away for them to try to fix it, he supposedly buffed it out and it looked a little better, but the problem is still there. So hoping they will replace it - since I bought it brand new I feel like it shouldn’t come with even a minor dent like that which is noticeable in the right lighting. The computer system thing is prob operating like normal as a Tesla tech came to my house and claimed he resets his computer prob once a week, although when I talked on phone with Tesla support she said they recommend to reset the computer AT LEAST once a month - so sounds like resetting the computer to clear the cache is common with Tesla cars - I feel like it would be better if they just had a button you could press or if it automatically cleared it for you everytime you start a new trip or something. Also may be that certain updates make it more buggy than others which could also be contributing. But yeah the dent is not major and the computer is prob operating normally so I feel pretty good overall because even though I have had to reset the computer 5-7 times in a month it runs very smoothly and have no problems whatsoever in operation of the vehicle itself or autopilot working or anything major like that.

If you are expecting a seamless and consistent product that always works - this is NOT it!!! Terrible connection issues with most recent iOS and drops connection regularly while driving! Also seems to turn off the car's Wifi at random times! As for Tech Support - FORGET IT!
I got it but on screen say check fire wall and internet,it can't connect to wifi,so what is solution,I use iPhone 14and use hotspot,it doesn't work,thx
Change the IP of the device to a static one when you connect via WiFi and it will allow us to use a mobile data connection which will result in downloading the update etc

Interesting question. I think in order to get the browser to work you need premium connectivity. I also don’t believe your phone can be running CarPlay and hotspot at the same time since WiFi and Bluetooth are needed for both
I am experiencing major problems when i am on calls while using the box. i had to disconnect it just to be able to hear people on the line. Anyone else experiencing this issue? any solutions out thee?

Great video. Thanks to you, I was able to update the software and get the CarPlay working with sound. The manual that came with the CarPlay adapter was ridiculously small and the screenshots were even smaller.
i to could not get the device working, was ready to return it, tried the update you described, works like a chap!
So it looks like it functions if you jump through hoops. My other car has car play, and I prefer it. In my Tesla, I installed Alexa to give me voice controls for my phone, which all go through the blue tooth without jumping through rings of fire. Interestingly, I found that running the Tesla FSD map and Waze off my phone through Alexa is a fantastic experience with the Tesla turn-by-turn voice muted in the navigation section of the Tesla.
So now I find I use Amazon services by voice for everything, and it took about a week to realize this is how the car should be set up from the factory with voice controls.
It's a $50 cost and installs nicely right in front of where you set your key card and plug it into your 12-volt port under the armrest.
I can not wait to have all this integrated and an FSD that works
Are you me? I ran a full Echo Dot in my last car, but that car could handle three Bluetooth devices simultaneously, not just one like the 3/Y. I wanted SiriusXM in the 3, but I didn't want to mess with the app while the car was moving. I also play music off my Plex server at home. It doesn't hurt that the Echo Auto pulls data from the phone's main data plan, not the hotspot. Moving from the household Dot to the Echo Auto was the best move by far.

Question for you, I just got my unit and it works great. However, when I leave my Tesla, my iPhone stays connected to hotspot and I can’t get it to disconnect and use my Wi-Fi at home. Any suggestions?
It sounds like you turned on phone Hot Spot which uses cellular service to obtain Internet and uses its WiFi adapter to send Internet to clients. That defeats/replaces your home WiFi. Turn-off phone hot spot and home WiFi should work fine.

@@jajacobs2 I think you must turn on the hot spot when in the car to use CarPlay and turn it off when returning home. It’s not automatic.

I had the device up and running but it was acting a little glitchy so I checked for an update. There was one but it crashed at 70% updating. Now the device is unresponsive. It just blinks orange. Any suggestions?

No. The wifi address is still there but it won’t connect now. And the problem is there is no way to return to a factory reset.
The included manual is written in such poor English it’s virtually unusable.
Way too many glitches on this thing in my book.
As a follow up, I was finally able to update the software and the kit works once again! I was able to connect via wifi and after numerous failed update attempts it finally completed. I guess the lesson learned is don’t give up if at first you don’t succeed!

And all I see is the USB in the glove box and that's being used by a USB drive to record dashcam video, so what can I do to use this still as I've already ordered it? ;(
@RobertRosenfeld1 So I got this and have it working only my calls will not play through the tesla. I have to use my actual phone. When I try to press the Bluetooth icon to transfer the cal to my phone I cannot as it's not an option, but the phone says connected by Bluetooth to the box and the tesla for audio and phone calls. Any ideas?? The tesla even males the sounds like a call is coming in and let's me press on the screen to answer it but no call audio plays on the car stereo.

I watched this twice and couldn’t see where you turned on the iPhone hot spot. Of course, it’s important to turn off hot spot when returning home so phone connects to home WiFi.
It looked like the car connected to WiFi to the dongle then the dongle connected to phone through Bluetooth. So looked like didn’t have to turn on hotspot. Wondering if have to set the dongle WiFi to allow while driving so doesn’t disconnect when put in drive.

Total Carplay functionality looks perfect, but I dislike that it requires making a Personal Hotspot connection every time you enter the vehicle. Also my iPhone seems to heat up when hotspot is in use, and it drains iPhone battery quickly so would have to be charging during every use.

The sound will come through your phone via Bluetooth. So just make sure your phone is still connected to the Tesla and switch the audio source in your car to Bluetooth

It practically combines all the worst qualities of the other big three major anglophone countries-UK (toxic clubbing/alcohol & hoodrat culture), US (everything is expensive, central govt corrupt as hell-ridden with waste, fraud, and abuse of their huge tax revenues), Canada (massive limitations on personal liberties/human rights, crap “universal healthcare”; most people who actually want good care pay for private insurance)….
