It's 30 days not 1 Year for Premium now!!
😭I just ordered mine recently
Yep. My 2023 only came w 30 days free premium connectivity. But I bought it and because of the maps and cameras, I’m going to keep it.
Confirmed! Kept it mainly for the convenience of touching the screen for Spotify etc vs having to look at the phone. The earth map view is helpful with landmarks sometimes too, and the occasional youtube when parked :)
They use connectivity, Supercharging, etc. as a sales tool. I got a 3 years free connectivity with my first X and 1 year free with the latest X and 3. Had I waited a few months until the end of the year I could have also gotten free Supercharging for 3 years on my latest X.
Confirmed, I purchased the 2024 Model Y just two 2days to the new year, and it came with 1 month free premium connectivity. I am still learning my new ride, and your video has been quite helpful.
For me Premium connectivity is cheaper than upgrading my phone plan so it can act as a hot spot. One of the reasons I got the car was because of the cool tech so $100/year to get the max experience was a no brainer.
I agree there are workarounds using the hot spot, but $100 for a year isn't going to break the bank. It's nice to not have to worry about connecting via Bluetooth for music and i have the interface for Spotify right on the screen. It's also nice when i go into the store quickly my kids can watch Disney without me having to mess around with a hotspot or wifi. Thanks for the videos Chris!
Once you start allowing these ala carte features to start it never ends.. 100 bucks now and then other fees will start so resist the corporate greed and send the appropriate messages.
@@XX-166 the subscription model is what everything is going to nowadays. Companies prefer recurring revenue. Just embrace it.
They can increase the price anytime. What if next year they increase it by 50%, so it’s $150 per year, etc. Disney plus used to be $6.99 per year no ads. Now no ads cost $19.99
@@ReeLSpirit hello inflation
@@ReeLSpirit If they raise the price and it it no longer provides requisite value, then just don't renew. That's what I did with Disney+.
Ive had the free prem connectivity for a full year and I have to say.. the only thing worth paying for is the live sentry mode when I'm parked at the more shady places of town. Pretty much everything else can be done with bluetooth or hotspotting to the phone. Satellite view is nice but not needed. This is my 2 cents. Good vid Chris.
1. Standard connectivity is included, at no additional cost, for 8 years following the new vehicle’s original delivery. Certain high data usage vehicle features require at least Standard Connectivity, including maps, navigation and voice commands.
2. Premium Connectivity is complimentary for 30 days, then available as a subscription
Honestly premium is the way to go for me. If I used my cell as a hotspot all the time, my data would be used up pretty quick. Also unlimited data for my cell carrier would cost way more than $9.99 a month.
Premium connectivity is only free for 30 days currently, not one year.
yeah idk if it was ever one year but i got my model 3 in april 2024 and it only came with 1 month
This is a great video, thanks Chris! My 30 days just expired and I was wondering why can’t I see the live cams?! Makes sense now.
This is important . Thanks.
Thanks Chris for the helpful content. I’ve used a lot of your tips already as a new Model Y owner!!!🎉❤
Thanks so much! Congrats on the new Model Y? What’s his/her name??
@@EverydayChris I’ve never named a car but this could be a first! I love to drive my Y. I’m almost to a thousand miles in 3 weeks! Any good ideas? ;)
Superchargers also have free wifi to download the newest updates
Really? Every supercharger has free wifi or is it only in the USA?
Premium connectivity is a must in my opinion, for $100 per year, is worth it , no question about it, satellite maps , all streaming. I don't wanna use my phone all the time, I love it.
I used to connect to hot spot but with 2 kids , they used ton of data for their stream . I prefer premium connectivity . Especially when you are on the road trip with many supercharges . Also, the live traffic with sattelite is very convenient to see the live traffic . The live fottage is also a plus too . Good job bro ! Thanks for your content !
Happy New Year to you Chris and everyday Jan
Happy New Year!
I think I've got it, thanks Chris!
For my commute, if I am not aware of a problem ahead, I could be stuck for several hours! Any help by knowing when to turn off the highway can potentially save me days of sitting still in a year. It's not that bad. people spend more than that on coffee usually.
I tried to use my iphone 13 pro max hotspot on t-mobile instead of premium for three months. The problem is that you have to open up the iphone settings every time you get in the car, and turn off the hotspot and turn it back on again, or else the Tesla won't reconnect to it. There is a lot of discussion online about this and the consensus is that Apple only allows its own devices to reconnect to an iphone hotspot automatically. My macbook pro will reconnect to my phone automatically, but not the Tesla. After noticing I couldn't see traffic while connected, I caved and paid for premium.
Your video is so timely, it helps me think it through. I am leaning towards ditching the premium connectivity after 1 month demo period ends in few days.
(1) I find satellite view very distracting.
(2) Seeing the traffic congestion on a map is not necessary because the nav system will route properly regardless. From what I understand, it factors in the current traffic conditions even with standard connectivity.
(3) I can't leave our dog in the car alone due to her separation anxiety, so I have no use for live video feeds from the cabin camera (a useful feature otherwise).
(4) If a scumbag smashes the car windows, the damage is already done, what is the advantage of seeing it little sooner in the live Sentry mode? Besides, there are so many Teslas out there nowadays, the probability of my car being targeted by the haters has declined considerably. My Tesla is just one of many, will do just fine without live viewing.
(5) Charging at Superchargers is so quick, I don't have time watching any movies. I play podcasts on my Google Pixel phone without any issues. That is the only streaming I need when I am driving. And when our family is on a road trip, I need the screen for navigation, can't be used for entertainment by a passenger.
(6) Money saved can be better spent on other priorities, like installing a mini instrument cluster and a mirror dashcam (Wolfbox G900). I have done that. They absolutely improve safety!
Yeah i wish Sirius radio would be added, definitely need more apps. But being able to check on my car is Hugh
Totally worth paying for premium. I at first thought I’ll use my phone hotspot” but I find for the yearly price it’s worth having the car having its own connectivity.
still crazy that tesla makes you do that since other cars dont. and dont need it since they allow android auto and stuff
Great video, thanks man.
At $100 per year I think Tesla is just covering their costs. If you look at what a phone company charges for high speed data it's usually much more than this, and the data caps are pretty low. Verizon $65 dollar plan has a 30 gig cap, although it includes phone service for people that still use their phone as a phone. I tried standard connectivity for a few days when my free premium ran out and it's just not worth it. Everything just works more smoothly and better integrated with premium and $100 a year is actual a steal in my mind.
What r u going to do when out of country or anywhere viewing person on Tesla vision ?
At first, I wasn't going to get it. I only got 3 months of premium connectivity and noticed that most of what Tesla has for entertainment can be duplicated with my phone. Waze lets you see in real time what traffic is and I could honestly use that to route me (even though Tesla's routing is really good). I didn't like not having the live camera views and figured for all of the updates Tesla puts out, $99 a year is worth it. Just today, I was driving my wife and her sister around and at one point they were at the mall for over 3 hours. Sure, I could have connected my car to my phone and used it as a hotspot, but it's so convenient to just pull up Netflix and start watching and not messing with my data plan (even though I do technically have unlimited data).
I was researching EVs before I got my (new) Model 3 March, 2022. I *think* I remember reading that live weather would be available with Premium Connectivity. Did I read another EVs benefits, or was this Tesla?
I'd like to have the option to see clouds/rain overlayed on the satellite view. Yes, weather maps are available on plenty of sites. I was hoping to see where I might encounter rain/snow/sleet on my route.
Hey Chris you might need to amend the first statement of 1 year of premium connectivity when you buy a new Tesla. It's just 30 days. Anyway, awesome video.
My experience to date, the connectivity, is a mire seamless experience. I'm presently using the hotshot from my phone. If I put the car in park, I have to reconnect. When I watch TH-cam before the month is out I need more data. Instead of increasing my phone plan, I will pay for the connectivity
EverydayChris, does your sentry mode camera view on your phone only shows 4 views? I see 6 on my phone and a option to see 4 combined. I have an android phone if that makes any difference.
Could you show if the navigation and maps work if there is no Wi-Fi connection, hotspot or any cell reception at all. I am curious to learn how Tesla’s connectivity would work in remote places.
Unrelated to video, but have you recieved clean credit form under documents on tesla account ? A lot of people have been getting it, but the people i know that ordered in the beginning of the year including me have not
my 2023 Model X came with 1year free and will be keeping the subscription going for 100/yr
My left steering wheel button used to work for moving from favorite to favorite; now it is random and just cycles through random radio stations. I am not sure how to fix this and make it only cycle through my favorites again?
Wait for new cars the premium connectivity is for one year?? I only got it for 2 months which ends in Jan. Happy New Year btw.
Thanks!
Thank you!
The premium connectivity is supposed to eliminate ads on the radio, which means if you're streaming broadcast or cable channels, there shouldn't be any ads. I thought this meant I would hear only music or nothing where the ads normally are. But What I hear is a lot of ads for Tune-In instead. WTF?? What's the point of premium connectivity for this purpose?
I recently purchased Tesla Model y, I don’t see Summon or Auto park in my Tesla app, Where do I find?
They changed it now to only 1 month of free premium connectivity. Also you forgot to mention the ability to heat up or cool down the cabin remotely.
I still have that on my free one!
True, you can still control climate and use all of the app’s features (except live camera sentry) using standard connectivity.
All the app features (except for sentry live view) work with standard connectivity.
I use solely to watch TH-cam while on my lunch break without tethering my phone into the car via hotspot. Everything else is just a plus.
same that can get annoying
Personally I don't want to be fooling around with my phone as it's another potential distraction. I definitely use the Nav features so that's enough to keep Premium Connectivity. I use the satellite mode to see what it's going to look like pulling into a town and looking for the chargers or a hotel. My wife does the navigation and usually checks google maps while I'm using the car's Nav screen. Hot spot uses cell towers and we drive a lot of road trips in out of the way areas where reception is sometimes sketchy or non-existent. I don't know how Tesla gets good connectivity in those areas but somehow it works.
I believe Tesla uses mostly AT&T so it should get good signal where AT&T has coverage and Tesla also has roaming agreements with other carriers where AT&T signal might be weak.
Probably because of the antenna and RF-chips used in the Tesla. Unlike a phone they don't need to worry about size and energy usage too much, and having them outside the car (in the plastic mirrors?) should be better than a phone inside the car. I think the WiFi, Bluetooth and Cell range has also been improved in the Highland refresh.
@@Jabid21Tesla uses starlink
@@starent3777they don't. At least not for their cars.
I will be getting the Premium Connectivity when the 1 month demo runs out. It's pretty cheap when paying by year. I actually do use it mostly for the satellite navigation, especially for shifting destination markers to suitable parking options. My software version does not have the new speedcamera and traffic light warnings yet. Will that require the Premium Connectivity?
Yes that requires premium for the Waze features
They should just give us CarPlay then watch how many people cancel premium. Oh wait…
so just pay for premium connectivity for 1 month when you travel to see the live view.
Except recently the software updates have broken connecting iPod touch over Bluetooth
The only gripe I have is that even if I do choose to use my hotspot for connectivity, I won’t get live traffic data. I understand getting traffic data could be expensive and involve licensing costs per vehicle that Tesla needs to pay the map provider. In the end, I wouldn’t really mind as the cost is relatively cheap at $10/mo or $100/yr. I have yet to get premium connectivity after my trial ended cause I have been pretty happy with what standard connectivity has to offer, I can stream music and video with my hotspot and I haven’t been using live sentry mode.
It would be great if they could be like EVERY other car manufacturer and have CarPlay. Until then, I know a lot of people that won't buy a Tesla. Me included
@@EdwardsNH I understand where are you coming from. I haven’t adopted Apple CarPlay from the get go as my previous daily driver didn’t have CP or AA. However, I have used CarPlay in rental cars and I prefer it over most manufacturer’s infotainment system. My main gripe I have is that infotainment systems from most manufacturers were terribly designed and slow to respond. At the very least, Tesla doesn’t suffer from this and this is the only exception where I can use the car without Apple CarPlay although Tesla doesn’t have all the apps I’d ideally want on the screen, namely Waze.
I need Waze. I don’t want teslas map it’s shite in comparison. Going from a Skoda with CarPlay to an M3 without CP feels like a massive step back in some respects.
I just use Tasker on my android phone to turn on hotspot tethering when my phone is near the Tesla Bluetooth. Then the car automatically connects to the wifi everytime i drive
Santry mode drained my battery so haven't been using it regularly
I have premium. Cost is minimal to the price of everything in the car. Wish they add a little more to the cost so Tesla can be a hot spot. I have the front screen and rear screen added. Nice it is not through the cell phone.
Can I download TH-cam music instead of using Spotify or Tesla music?
My connectivity goes on and off constantly it’s annoying sometimes it doesn’t have any signal throughout my drive? Should I be concerned of its normal?
Ever since they added Apple Podcasts I'm actually using it. lol No more fiddling with my phone bluetooth
you should unlimited service for wifi or can be very expensive
im considering it on my new tesla but the inablility to install an ad blocker for youtube is a pain in the .... well painful places. my brain mostly.
I think it's worth it for the ability to view the cameras remotely. And you know, at least when I bought my Y, get Premium connectivity for 3 months.
Edit: Correction, I only got Premium connectivity for 1 month (But if you wait to renew till the last day you can get an extra month.
Since this not works where i live it’s not worth it at all
So I have an 18 model x, and can't get live cameras, so I really don't think I can do anything like that anyway. Seems like a waste
I just wish the premium connectivity also made the Tesla a hot spot like other cars. It's not a bad deal especially if they enable that.
OKAY...Great video. But how are you getting a full-screen map!
That you can’t do! But you can do full screen for self driving if you have it!
at 2:55 into the video you clearly have the map filling the screen. Are you saying if I pay the $12K self driving upgrade then I would be able to get rid of the "visualization" and see the a full screen map?@@EverydayChris
i think Premium connectivity is a no-brainer considering its cost as a proportion of the vehicle price
Justify it how you want. Not everyone has the same opinion.
As much I love my Tesla and the company on a whole, losing something like Standard Connectivity when the car is deemed “old” is wrong. I’m planning on driving my Model 3 into the ground. Things with connectivity are what scare me about cars like this.
I can understand what you're saying but i don't know a single company that provides something like standard connectivity for free other then maybe the first month let alone for years.
I guess I'll have to use XM radio app from my phone and Bluetooth it to the car. Wish they would just have it downloadable to the car.
That live traffic OSS
Is not accurate especially on surface streets
If hotspotting, do you have to go through that hotspot connection process every time you drive? Or does it remember to hotspot to your phone?
It remembers.
I have Premium connectivity but I don't see live cameras. Is it because my X is a 2020?
Hi Chris will Sentry Mode work in the car alone without premium. For instance if I don't want to check live feed but I want it Sentry Mode to record then I can come to the car & check if anything has happened
Thank you
Yes you can review sentry footage later without premium.
Correct. Can view it on the screen later. Everything still works
My premium expired and took me like 2 weeks to notice the gps satellite mode was off 😂
I had it for free for life in my old M3. I will renew after my free year in my ModelX
It's a little less per year than per month
£10 per month is fine to have Apple Music & Podcasts working on the screen while driving , it’s safer Currently I can’t get the subscription podcasts yet on the Apple podcast app but I expect Teslas will fix that with an update.
Question on the Music, can you connect a USB drive to play MP3s? I know old way of things. :)
Yes you can. It’s a bit of a chor but it works. I found a video on youtube.
I think you’re right about premium connectivity but at the same time, if I can afford a Tesla, I can afford premium connectivity and everything just seems easier
Even when I had Premium I preferred the clean view og the navigation without all the satellite clutter. And we never watch movies in the car. So no premium for me anymore.
The live camera should work on WiFi connectivity.
Honestly what would be even cooler is if Tesla would let you add the car's cell modem to your mobile phone plan. Same price though, I guess. Verizon charges $10/month for additional devices so maybe it wouldn't be all that much better.
I think for the convenience it is worth the 100 dollars and cheaper than most cell plans
That's just it. Who drives a Tesla and doesn't already have a cell phone plan?
How do I connect my music via Bluetooth??
Live sentry mode should be inculded. Or at least the vehicle records things then tells me there's a problem later on when I come back. If I have to pay $100 a yr for live sentry mode and I don't really use the other functions, then something has to be done about paying one thing or none. I could care less singing in my car. I will just buy a dash cam that records 24/7 then!
The fact that they don't have Apple Carplay or Android Auto is the one thing holding me (and a lot of people I know) back from buying a Tesla.
There is only one thing, or maybe two, concerning navigation I would like to have, but otherwise I don't see a reason for premium connectivity at all.
This kinda falls into the realm of "People spent $2000 on Hue bulbs but won't pay $5 for the app to control them," or new Pilots who are like, "I pay $250/hr for airplane+instructor but won't pay $199/yr for ForeFlight which will make ALL MY FLIGHT PLANNING safer, quicker, more accurate, and 40x easier." If I'm paying $50k for a car... I can afford $50.1k or 1/7th of 1 month's loan for a year of connectivity.
Those fun stuffs is kindda requirement while charging
can you locate your car (if someone takes off with it) without premium connectivity?
yes you can still see where the car is on the app
Hi Chris, you has multiple cars and I just wondering, how do u use keys app on your phone? By created multiple accounts? Or just one app on multiple cars? Pls advise thanks!
One app with multiple cars and just swipe left and right!

@catcityhulk creating a new one!
@@EverydayChris Thank you I'm sure a lot of people will find it useful. Like when I give someone a key card, but without access to the app.
We only have premium for the Sentry Mode access, that’s it.
We’re all screwed by Tesla in about 8 years, it’ll be the only EV which cannot Navigate etc…that’ll be great advertisement for Tesla!
I bought a used MX from Tesla. Will I get free standard connectivity for 8 years from my purchase or the MX gets free standard when it was put in service?
Before JULY 2022 it's included for the lifetime. Otherwise I belive they should tell you on the screen
Last week I bought a 2018 model 3 long range. It included premium connectivity.
Will this feature get turned off at some time in the near future?
No, I have the same, it's free for lifetime, we save $100/year!
My daughter just bought a new 3, and the connectivity is free for 30 days, not 1 year.
I hate to bug U, how does one locate THEIR OWN referral code ?
Would I need Premium Connectivity for Enhanced Autopilot or FSD? Thanks.
Nope!
4:50 Rally? 100.000 miles away? That's four times around the world 🤣🤣🤣
Why would you do that if you drive Porsche Cayman?
I do not believe that $99 p/Year should not be an issue even if you do not need and could use your phone wi-fi.
As soon as my free trial was over, I canceled. Two weeks later, I signed right back up again. Premium Connectivity is worth it to me.
Heyyyyyu when my brother use my referral link and buy a tesla. When do I get the credit ?
should be after delivery! shows up on the app
I think they charge a fair price considering Spotify is included.
TH-cam and other similar apps will be soon included in Androud Auto so Tesla will not have this advantage forever.
not free Spotify, only premium Spotify works
@@otterfunkckcTesla has a built in Spotify premium account for premium connectivity if you don't have a premium Spotify account yourself.
So you don't need a Spotify account to use Spotify on a Tesla.
I have unlimited data on my phone. But setting up hotspot alk the time is annoying.
I have it and think it’s worth the money. You get a lot for the price.
Commenting from the year 2031, Now called zero connectivity your tesla will do literally nothing when away from a hotspot or wifi network unless you pay for premium connectivity. Note however that you can pay $2.99/mo for standard connectivity or $11.99/mo for premium connectivity.
$10 a month is nothing for all the incredible convenience features you get. I did it without thinking. I did not pay for a $65k car to not use all its features haha.
it is the cheapest for full connectivity you can get for a car.....100/yr just get it....
So I’m on a premium plan without knowing lol I was wondering how I have internet
We’re talking less than 30 cents a day. It’s fine 👍🏾
I ordered my model y in 2021 and received it after July 2022. I have lifetime standard connectivity right? It’s by order and not delivery, right?
Yeah lifetime standard!
@@EverydayChrisgreat! I think if I plan to travel somewhere far. I can just pay for one month premium connectivity if I cared about viewing the cameras.
