What is the purpose of the personal hotspot? Where does it connect to? I didn’t see you connect the personal hotspot to anything

Yep doesn’t work in Australia because browser is hidden when u put car into drive or reverse

Great video. Thanks for posting. I understand you need a hotspot to connect but when using the device day to day are you using Hotspot data or regular phone data for things such as maps, music, etc. I have limited hotspot data

Actually, I've had a really good experience with the T3 from Ownice doing essentially the same thing, I tried the Carlink before but I prefer my T3 which somehow costs a little less

Basic is fine
How do calls through CarPlay work? Does it use the oem Tesla microphone? Any issues with the Tesla OS fighting the CarPlay OS for handling calls?
Calls are handled through car’s microphone and carplay is just displaying it on the screen. Your phone is connected with bluetooth to the car when you use carplay , so no issues.
Does it run the Uber/Lyft apps?

I am using my phone data. Audio doesn’t use much data so it is all good. You can stream XM radio from CarPlay.

so the personal hotspot only needs to be used for the initial setup? Doesn't need to turned on within the phone every single time?
That needs to stay on. It only connects to the device that you allow so it doesn’t hurt
@@MyGadgetsWorld I was asking because I watched the official install video and they said if you use the SIM card method than you can take out the SIM card after setup….and I figured using the hotspot is equivalent in the setup process as the SIM card is.
Maybe you can also create a first shortcut on your iPhone which says :
« WHEN connecting to Tesla Bluetooth >> THEN turn on hotspot »
And a second one which says
« WHEN disconnecting to Tesla Bluetooth >> THEN turn off hotspot »

At least according to the new Tesla cars' specs, without premium connectivity you don't get the browser functionality.

No. Lag is not noticeable. It is pretty responsive

You can use Google Maps, Waze as well

But you didn’t show it on while you’re driving. Which makes me think that it does not stay on. It closes out like it does usually on the browser or any other thing you do when you’re driving.
I will make another video for follow up to your question. It works flawless. Have to make sure wifi is always on in the car settings

Another TH-camr mentioned that when you are away from the car, your Tesla app can’t connect to the car as the car is still using the wifi from the box which now has no hotspot. Did you check that?
As soon as you go away hotspot is disconnected and Tesla connected to its own network or wifi

Hello. completed all the settings and connected the program. will work slowly. The screen is very small and the movement of the route is slow. I checked my internet connection, but the speed was too high. On my next trip I had to reconnect the program to use the navigation. I couldn’t adjust the sound, even though I downloaded the program several times and reconnected the phone to the car. Overall a disappointment. I regretted believing it.

With another device on the market, I have read that when using this functionality, you lose the premium Tesla functionality of the Tesla software such as the satellite maps capability of Tesla maps. Is this the case with this device also?
You will still keep Tesla Visualization and maps functionality.

No. It is not hardware installation to actual drive unit of the car. Just plugin the type C

If you are using the mobile hotspot on your phone, just beware you have limited data when you use the hotspot even with unlimited phone plan

I bought this device based on your recommendation and it never worked properly from the get go. I reached out to EV base who agreed to replace it but then after stringing me along for 10 days they then changed their mind and are refusing to replace or refund what is a pretty expensive device. Not sure if you can help sort this seeing as you were promoting their product. If not you should not recommend them anymore.
Sorry to hear that. Did you try their support for what was the issue? Mine still works fine and several others bought as well.
Well actually I’ve been not so good reviews for the product on Amazon as well. Basically I’ve sent them videos of the issue and they are saying they will try and fix it but nothing as yet. A defective product should be replaced or refunded no questions asked and this isn’t the case. Just changing commitments.
Company is in China. I got charged an international service fee.

This guy actually went through all the work to install CarPlay, and then used Google Maps, which is the same crappy routing system that comes in the Tesla anyways. Apple Maps is elite.

@@jggold90 well. It’s not the detailed install that is the problem here dude. It’s the constant fumbling with words and repeating himself every second minute that would have made this a 3 min watch. It’s unprofessional. I found another video with a comprehensive install of this product that was way better put together and a joy to watch.
