    I know this comment won't get much attention, but I was a 8 year old kid sitting in those stands in 2002. When the last out was made in the bottom of the 6th inning, I began to cry to my dad thinking that the game was over. Taught me a very valuable lesson that I carried into my college baseball career: The game is not over until 27 outs are made. The philosophy of it never being over changed my life.

      Dude I was the same age. Unfortunately we were way too poor to afford tickets for a game, but I remember my entire family watching this and game 7 in some apartments on Catalina right off of brookhurst street. That game 7 win, was insane. The entire city celebrated like there was no tomorrow. I remember everyone running outside and looking towards the direction of the angels stadium, fireworks everywhere. What a hell of a night.

      I was 9 years old, somehow or another my dad got 4 tickets for game 6, I think he won them on the radio. Funny thing is they were in the handy cap spot behind right field. So I elected to go in a wheelchair, it was worth it, going to a World Series game for the only time my team was in a World Series, you bet your ass in going. We sat in front of the inflatable gene autry Jersey. It truly was one of the best moments of my life.

    I was there for Game 7. The atmosphere in the Stadium was unreal! The noise - the thunder stix - the more than enthusiastic crowd! Seeing the Angels win a World Championship - in manner that they did it - is one of the favorite memories of my entire life.

      +curtis larsen Salary cap and having guys on 10 year contracts doesn't give him much wiggle room. Plus Artie's game before even buying the Angels was to tap that LA market and pull Dodger fans on the OC/LA county border. And honestly.. he's did it quite well. He is a marketing man, thats how he made his millions.

M-I-S-T-A-K-E! Some Angels players took offense to this arrogant presumption and made the Giants pay dearly and ripped the Series right out from under them!

      Elestar Blogs I cannot blame Dusty for his pitchers blowing a 5-run lead in game 6. Barry missed the catch then made that bad defensive error that helped cost them that game. Also, defensive alignment against Glaus should have had Bonds further back than where he was to account for a double in the gap, which is maybe on Dusty.

      I'd rank the 2011 Cardinals as the 2nd best comeback. 1986 Mets vs. Red Sox is still the craziest, most wild comeback not only in baseball history, but in sports history. The Mets were down to their last out, down 2 runs, with NOONE on base. Then they were down to their LAST STRIKE FOUR TIMES which is insane. And to top it off, they tie the game on a wild pitch, and win the game on a ball through Buckners legs all during Mookie Wilsons at-bat! Nothing will ever top that World Series comeback, in my opinion.

    Humble blue collar team, great looking new logo and color scheme, and of course a name that represented not just Anaheim where the team is but a name that proudly and accurately represented Orange County and Angels nation. The Anaheim Angels had finally fulfilled Gene Autry’s dream in every way. Unfortunately, Arty Moreno has torn it all down. He has gone after big white collar type contracts that have suffocated the teams payroll, he has regularly talked about taking the team to another city and he gave our proud Anaheim Angels name to our natural rivals in Los Angeles!!! We may have been technically formed in LA but we never had a home there. Literally, never had a home, then Gene Autry found a welcoming home in Orange County and we were happy. But now our name and identity has been given to a city that could not care less about it. But we will always have 2002, and a trout and Ohtani are fun to watch. Unfortunately they are stuck in a franchise that has been completely botched by the disrespectful owner

      Edgehead10075 Giants were irrelevant for 5 decades, now all of a sudden you act as if you've been fans your whole life. Dodgers 5, Giants 3. Dodgers were at the very least in contention their whole existence. It wasn't until MLB added a wild card that you decided to win a ring. Shut the fuck up, front runner.

    • @rockabillylaker
      @rockabillylaker 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Edgehead10075 I bet you had to look that up considering 90% of your "fan base" never even existed before 2010. Years down the line you'll still be spewing that "3 in 5" line. You'll sound like Al Bundy holding onto that 1 great moment as you fade again into mediocrity and threaten to move to Florida like you did some 20 years ago. Yes, Dodgers are a joke, a big fuckin joke and we've known so since after 88 but, you know what? We still have record setting attendance every year and have some of the most knowledgeable, loyal fans. All you have is a bunch of front runners who disappear when things don't go your way. You "fans" were completely MIA before 2010.

    Fun fact: The Angels' comeback in Game 6 is the largest in World Series history by a team *facing elimination.* For those that know baseball history, the 1929 Philadelphia Athletics overcame a larger deficit (rallying from an 8-0 scoreline against the Cubs in Game 4 to win 10-8), but they were leading 2-1 in the series at the time, so they weren't facing elimination. They held that lead to go up 3-1, then used a ninth inning rally to win the Series 4-1 on a walk-off single the next day.

    6:28 and 7:40 - Barry Bonds loses the WS all by his lonesome. Did it again in game 7. His speed masked his complete incompetence, and this is the glorious result of the wheels being gone. And his arm was a noodle from the start. Know why Andruw Jones is the best defensive center fielder of all time? He made it look easy because he was almost always positioned correctly. Bonds was clueless.

    Dusty Baker should have never taken Ortiz out of the game... I guess he did't do his homework... The Angels that year had something like 48 come from behind wins that season... Meaning you had better have a damn good reason for taking your starting pitcher out of the game because these guys feasted on their opposing teams bullpen... That is an incredible stat.... So again Dusty Baker elected to go to his bullpen with a 5-0 lead... Not a very good idea.... I think he took Ortiz out to soon... Just my opinion though...

    • @aznpikachu215
      @aznpikachu215 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, 2 straight hits on Ortiz, he probably thinks he'll give up at least 2-3 runs on that inning.

    • @ogrebattle22763
      @ogrebattle22763 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Just a very stupid move in my opinion.... You don't take your starting pitcher out especially when he was just dominating that Angels line-up he had something like 8 strikeouts & was pitching a shutout.... even at that point had he loaded up the bases & given up a grand slam the Giants still would have been up by a run.... The Angels had the best hitting average in the majors against relief pitching... If Dusty Baker had left Ortiz in to finish the inning at least The Giants would more likely then not have won the World Series...

    • @aznpikachu215
      @aznpikachu215 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ogrebattle22763 How many pitches did Ortiz have during the 7th inning? I think about 95 or something, and Felix Rodriguez was one of their consistent relievers, just bad timing, I suppose.

    • @ogrebattle22763
      @ogrebattle22763 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** You worry about pitch count during the regular season NOT during the playoffs & World Series... Ozzie Gullien's White Sox won the World Series on old school managing... How many times during that World Series did we see his White Sox starting pitching get into jams but Guillen never panicked & never worried about pitch count & his starting pitching manged to get out of jams... My theory is you ride your starting pitcher unless he tells you he doesn't have it anymore that's different but with a 5 run cushion a grand slam & they were still up a run it makes no sense.... to me anyway... Samething with Jim Leyland last year he took out his starting pitching when he really shouldn't have & it cost him the playoff series because of it...

    • @aznpikachu215
      @aznpikachu215 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ogrebattle22763 But the gamble might or might not pay off, you never know what can happen with each decision. Like fast forward to the 2003 ALCS, in the eighth inning, with the Red Sox leading 5-2, things unraveled for Boston. Sox manager Grady Little left a tiring Martinez in for the eighth, a controversial move, and what happened? 5-5.

    I was in Berkeley during this Series. A friend of mine was a diehard Giants fan, and we were watching one of the games at a sushi bar. My friend, of course, wanted the Giants to crush the Angels, they were favored to win after all, they haven't won in decades (yeah, the Cubs and Angels would like a word), and as I later learned, Giants fan gonna Giants fan, they can be rather... militant (granted, sample size of 2, but both of them were "win at all costs even by playing dirty" levels of fanaticism). I said to her, "Well, look at it this way, if the Angels come back and make it a 3-3 series, you're watching a full 7 game World Series." Naive me, thinking she would enjoy the _ballgame_ rather than simply enjoy winning.
    And then the Halos went on to win it all. I do feel a little bad about that.
