Thank you very much Allen, I have learned more from you then my gas safe course, may you give a tip how prepare my self for a job interview? I’m recently qualified.
Thank you for all the comments. It’s really interesting to see different peoples opinions. It’s also great to see so many Gas Engineers and Plumbers getting involved and answering questions. Thank you all so much for that.
Iv cleaned a heat exchanger before with a soft brush it caused a pinhole leak the debris that builds on the heat exchanger is not just surface it’s also corroding in to the heat exchanger also have be called out to combi boilers losing pressure can be difficult to find at first as it looks like the are no leaks inside the boiler as the burner is drying up the water
Nice video Elliot, I like the water bottle. One thing too note though............ Like you I used to clean the Vaillant electrodes with something very abrasive, a couple of years ago as part of regular updating, I took myself off to Vaillant training, where I was told by the head trainer that you should NEVER use anything abrasive as it kills the special coating that they apply to make electrodes last longer. HTH
First time hearing this, ignition electrodes are not the problem, flame detection ionisation electrode that's really important to clean, some boilers like Vaillant combine spark and ionisation electrode into 1 electrode so they have to be cleaned basically they have to be shiny after service. I don't want to tell u wrong information but i never heard about that special coat, electrode is basically piece of iron which conduct current.
@@BriaCroTex I've been at it nearly 40 yrs and was news to me. Doug Mullinger chief man for boilers at Vaillant training Ctr, Bristol told the whole course this during a Q&A , so presume it's correct.
Correct a few of the Mi's mention not to clean with anything abrasive I.e Viessman and baxi. Nylon brush should be ok imho. Problem with flame rectification electrodes is they rely on ionization to send current back to the board. With calcium deposits covering them they work ineffciantly. So they need a good clean right.
Nice job, not many people will decide put extra money for new seal and checking heat exchanger. As a Vaillant technician for us this is must do when u are opening heat exchanger and i saw few videos where u are just checking if seal looks good and out it back in which is not smartest thing to do, especially on Viessmann where u have silicon one
@@AllenHart999 i am taking pictures all the time so we can send them with Invoice. And videos when something is wrong so they can get clearer picture of what's happening.
I put an x with a sharpie on the bracket for the black air intake tube. Carry a small garden sprayer to clean out that heat exchanger and spray it with white wine vinegar. Ceramic grease works well below the threads on the combustion door and G10 seals are standard stock on my van. Great work there guys, always enjoying learning something new 🤗. Hope you have a excellent Christmas and great 2021 👍🏼
Nearly every time I have forgotten to put the bracket on for the snorkel ! Even though it’s right in front of me! Save an old toilet cleaner ‘duck’ bottle it’s brilliant for flushing out the Heat exchanger
Alan we really need to start a campaign as there’s no standard law that forces engineers to follow a protocol , I cancelled mine with a landlord company as they just don’t pull heat exchanger etc I’ll be booking a proper engineer for mine from here on.
@@CatholicAventures Don't bother pal, it's a waste of money. I brought it and it was a bit of a fad. It sat in the garage for ages. I sold it to another engineer on gaschat. I have an issue with my ecotec 615plus boiler annually serviced and we have a contract through British Gas for call outs - vibrating noise when the heating comes on - gas valve and diverter valve have been replaced through the contract and the engineer said it that doesn't solve it, it can't be the boiler, and I've replaced the water tank ballcock and valve. Have been told that the fan speed needs adjusting but don't know how to do it - it's somewhere in the settings - any thoughts? Thanks

Amazing example! how different ways of servicing a condensing boiler..Is this vaillant concealing a multi pass heatexchanger or singel pass? seam like it lasted longer than its sale-dy-date.
Can anyone advise where I can get the O ring for the Vaillant eco 28 condenser trap , Vaillant want to supply the complete housing , I only need the o ring , thanks .
This a a fantastic video if anyone ( not a boiler engineer ) wants to know what is included in a boiler service. Is this the normal standard of service or do I need to get Elliot.
Hi Allen, thanks for all the great videos. I've got a Baxi Platinum Combi and out of curiosity, is it normal for the rear combustion chamber insulation to glow? It tells me part of the flame is hitting it.
My valiant combination boiler loses all the water in the system after my central heating is turned off I have to fill it up to 1.5 bars to get hot water. Any idea as to what it could be and the cost please thank you .abby
Check safety valve see if it's leaking, check expansion vessel pressure, check around radiators if u can find any drips or anything wet. If all that is good and u are still loosing pressure solution is Tec 7 leak sealer.
Worst case scenario main heat exchanger could be leaking i have seen that few times best way to check that unplug condens bottle and see if water is still coming out of the heat exchanger.
It was fitted brand new about 5 years ago there is no leak anywhere around the radiators the boiler runs fine on hot water only don’t need to top up at all.it’s only when we use central heating while the central heating is on everything is fine it’s when the heating is turned off that’s when all the water in the system is empty’s and I have to refill the boiler to 1.5 bars. There is no visible leaks that I can see it maybe the water is being released through the safety valve outside in the gutter. Just to repeat the water is completely empty only when central heating is turned off.refill the boiler to 1.5 and it will stay at 1.5bars for as long as the central heating is not used that could be six months. Hope this will give more ideas as to what could the problem be thanks for getting back to me so quickly the first time
U can check pressure when heating is ON i And all radiators are nice and hot if pressure is close to 3 that means expansion vessel is empty or low pressure. It's really hard to fix the boiler without seeing it. Sometimes a single noise or little detail can tell u everything best thing would be contact Vaillant and do proper boiler service and if after service u still have issue with pressure then u have leak probably in the wall or floor compression fitting is pretty bad or shark bite is leaking when pressure is increased. U need proper central heating engineer, not a plumber a proper heat engineer, which is really hard to find. Call Alan
@@effervescence5664 We all do things in different ways and I would always advise you to check with the boiler manufacturer. Thanks so much for the comment.
@@AllenHart999 Yes we all do, but if you go to the Vailant training day that's one of the methods they show. Viessmann also had it on their course way back when as well.
I too would highly recommend that you stop using that kind of method to clean the heat exchanger, as infact you are removing the heat treated coating and are excelerating the intergranular corrosion to occur on the heat exchanger, use a very soft brush with the water from the condensate trap or white wine vinegar, that it. 👍
Would this be considered as a standard service at let's say the usual price or would you do this maybe every few years or so and charge slightly extra for the service? I'm interested in how to fairly charge for jobs like this which obviously take more time time to do.
Hello this is Mike from Amsterdam Holland him a registered Gas ingerieer I didn't see him change the balls for the burner tube and the isolation played why
You really shouldn't clean the main heat exchanger like that, the MIs state that it needs a light clean. ("MIs Remove any loose deposits from the heating spirals (3) using a soft brush and jet of water") Cleaning it like this is essentially taking off a very small layer of the metal, as soon as you see shiny metal it means that you have taken off a layer. If you do that on every service you're going to half the life of your heat exchanger and its going to pin hole. Its common sense really. Just lightly clean it and get any major debri off it, you think you're doing good scrubbing it but you're not.
It's mostly those who fail at school who go on to these jobs. They mostly do a bad job, and are paid alot of money. This makes them arrogant and even shoddier. Sorry if this is not a popular comment among engineers but if anyone was honest that's the public perception.
