I picked up the SN30 pro+ about a year ago and it's treated me extremely well so far. By far the craziest and least expected part of owning it though is how good the company is at customer support. A few months ago I emailed them and told them that one of the buttons on my controller had started sticking occasionally after intense use, and they sent me a new rubber panel which I swapped in and which made the controller feel good-as-new. I love the sn30+ pro. I play the emulators on my phone just fine, the swap over to my Mac to play games. Then when I’m in the mood, swap it to the switch as an extra pro controller. If you have lots of different devices, like mac/iPhone. And don’t just want a switch controller exclusive to Nintendo devices, this is an excellent choice.
does the old pro plus have the feature to swap right stick with the triggers? i dont get why nobody is talking about it on youtube for the 8bitdo pro 2. we can actually fucking play racing games with analog triggers for acceleration and braking!!!!! it is such a game breaking feature that no one talks about?!?!?!?!?!?
My pro2 have, buts fixed by one rount turn of joystick. More annoying its firmeware bugged. Some time its workks fine, some time glitchy. Gyro cant work or can not.
3:37 what do you mean 'something Microsoft should take note of?' The Xbox controllers already have a removable battery that you can use a rechargeable pack or a set of double As. The only difference is that this comes with a battery pack and the Xbox controllers don't, which I assume is included in the cost.
My favourite 8Bitdo controller is the M30, the Sega style controller. The D-pad feels amazing, and I love a six face button layout, particularly for fighters. Honestly, I wish they’d release an M30 Pro, basically the same thing but with two sticks, and triggers (I’d be fine with the Z and C buttons being mapped to L and R triggers at 100%,). It’d make a perfect all-rounder controller. I might be able to do away with my pile of controllers if I had that. Currently, in reach, I have a Dual Shock 3, SF30 Pro, Pro+, M30, a GameCube style switch controller (probably can’t do away with that one), my Shield controller, and a now-neglected Xbox 360 controller.

I finally remembered to buy the SN Pro 2 because your video popped back into my recommended feed. I'd always been meaning to buy it but I got side tracked, so thank you for reminding me lol
Having a slider for Dinput vs Xinput is actually really useful for PC. Most games should support Dinput but some older games will only use Xinput, meaning you need to use a 3rd party input wrapper for Dinput-only devices.
... You got the order wrong. D Input as explained, is literally INPUT, but DIRECTLY what is supported within the console, and is used for older games and so many emulators.... Newer input like XInput is the standard as it supports more, but has no motion control support.
You can swap the right stick with the triggers? That's going to be so useful for Grid Autosport because there's a setting where you can use the right stick for accelerating because the Switch lacks analogue triggers.

My only complaint about it as a "pro Controller" contender - and i own both the Switch Pro and the original Pro 8bitDo (but use the Pro Controller), is that it doesn't wake the Switch. maybe the new one does? But the NFC thing to me really doesn't matter too much. And Switch doesn't have charge docks for controllers like my PS4 and Xbox have (which makes 3rd party controllers a no go since they usually dont fit). But the SN30pro+ seemed to be discontinued, and they had a Pro 2 controller? So thank you for reviewing it, happy to see it's basically an sn30pro+ with macros(!!!) and 2 more buttons that may or may not be usefull (but hey "free" buttons can't be bad). The app sync while also synced to the switch sounds cool too. I was looking at a long drive to find a official pro controller, and stopped to watch these videos. So glad I did as the place down the road from me has the 8bit Pro 2 in stock, so you saved me petrol and time as well! Thanks man!
I wish Nintendo would just give their consoles normal controllers in the first place. Instead they experiment with "innovative" horseshit, and then either sell you a separate "pro" controller or hope third-party companies do it for them.
You're complaining about things that are already solved. The separate pro controllers are normal controllers. They're giving you options, what's so wrong about that? I actually like the pro+better -.- I got pro 2 cpl days ago and it's great better in all ways. except. Idk it feels off. 1. Buttons in back kinda get in the way. Tho app is super cool. And 2. I got pro+ that's snes themed. Light purp buttons whatever but the part that I love is the top 2 buttons being concave and the bottom 2 convex . That subtle thing is a bigger impact than one might realize in ways like a physical queues helping mental map out your own hands. Where they are and what they are doing and will do. Without looking
I didn't get the chance to try out the official switch pro controller, because I chose the SN30 + controller. It's just as good as Bob said, I thought I've finally gotten myself a perfect controller, it works for 3D games, and it works flawlessly in 2D game. But this one last for about a year, everything just starting to go downhill after one year of using it. It starts drifting, the bottons are falling off, sometimes the buttons would even get stuck that you can even press it, and occasionally connecting problems. I'm not sure about the official pro con, imo it's a really good controller, but I think SN30 pro+ might not be durable than the official controll, and it's not drift-free. That being said if you're on budget, I'd still recommend try out SN30 pro+, or even SN 30 pro 2+(hopefully they fixed those problems in this ver). If have extra to spend I would said get both, one for 3D one for 2D games.
“They probably didn’t wanna be bullied by Nintendo’s lawyers” Bruh they were able to get Nintendo Switch compatibility liscensing despite the design. It’s not like you can use it on XB or PS natively.

The replaceable battery pack idea **is** from Microsoft. I have rechargable battery packs in my xbox controllers, the only difference is that they are sold separatelly. The one who should learn is Sony, the battery in the PS controllers is not easily replaceable and it's one reason why after a lot of use and wear they end up not holding their charge for long. Imho, the rechargable battery pack sized as 2 AA should be a standard. I wonder if 8bitdo uses the same connectors as the xbox for the recharging, it would be interesting if an xbox battery pack could be used as replacement.
TBH I think he was referring to the fact that you have to buy the battery separately on xbox, I can see why they do that but I do wish you got one rechargeable battery with the console to get you started.
@@Clara_Page Maybe that's what he meant. But you can just order them together. Also 8bitdo does not sell battery packs separatelly at all, currently. So that's a problem if you ever need a spare one (I've already seen reddit threads of people complaining). I'd rather they did like xbox rather than forcing you to buy a new controller just to get an extra pack. Honestly, I don't see how it's a problem to buy them separatelly (which you can do simultaneously). I'd expect that if they came together the controller would be more expensive to begin with. If the problem is the price of controller+battery then the complaint should be about the price not the modular design, imho. Plus if you already own a battery pack you don't have to get a new one when you buy the new iteration of the controller as long as it's compatible (like how xbox one battery packs work on the xbox series controllers), which would be better both for your wallet and for the environment. The one thing I don't like about xbox battery packs is how the design is proprietary. Ideally they would have partnered with battery manufacturers to create a standard that could be used freely for other devices (it'd be great if Sony, Logitech & others joined the trend). But even as it is, the way xbox does it is much more consumer-friendly.
I've owned 2 of the previous pro+ controllers. They feel great, but the biggest problem I've had with them is that the rubber contact pads in them tend to break down fairly quickly. And since 8bitdo is located in China, it can take a month or longer for replacement parts to be shipped to you. I've had to go through this process 3 times and I gave up on it and just went back to using other controllers.
6:07, The trigger Sensitivity is disabled because the switch controllers don't have analog input, only digital. Means, the triggers only know 0 or 1. So either full force, or nothing. So there is no need to have a "sensitivity" because either your are pressing the button, or you aren't.

Does it properly do 8 way direction on Links Awakening when swapping the dpad for the stick? Does the diagonal inputs feel right?
I've been waiting for this review ... happy to see it has your endorsement. I pre-ordered mine based on your support of the Pro+ ... saw the Pro 2 was coming out soon and opted to just be patient. Hoping they ship or arrive day of release.

3:37 what do you mean 'something Microsoft should take note of?' The Xbox controllers already have a removable battery that you can use a rechargeable pack or a set of double As. The only difference is that this comes with a battery pack and the Xbox controllers don't, which I assume is included in the cost.
Lol I said the same thing. Anyone who's ever owned an Xbox should know this. Its been the same way on 360 too.
Microsoft can afford to include it lol
Whenever Bob uploads I stop whatever I'm doing and legit enjoy my time while watching him.
Great video by the way.

Now if there was a way to get it with PlayStation button labels, this would literally be the BEST controller for Final Fantasy XIV Online (actually it probably still is but I like having the in game prompts match the controller and FF XIV only has PS4 and Xbox layouts lol)

I have the original sn30 pro+ and i still find it useful to upgrade just cuz of the back buttons, it is super useful in fps games! I usually set the right back button as jump and left one as reload, that way I don't need the face buttons as much. Also, if using on Steam, you can set one of the back buttons to reset the gyro!
I use the previous version of this controller via bluetooth on my Raspberry Pi with Retropie and it is such an awesome controller. Just perfect.

DirectInput exists before Xinput (Xbox’s controller protocol)
@@khoado2060 I already implied that.
You can swap the right stick with the triggers? That's going to be so useful for Grid Autosport because there's a setting where you can use the right stick for accelerating because the Switch lacks analogue triggers.

God dammit Bob, that's 2 controllers you have me throw my credit card at!
Is it bad that I want to buy it just to take it apart and put the correct concaved buttons in the snes looking one.
This will be my first 8BitDo anything. So I'm super excited!
But yeah, not waking it up from across the room, its a good 2nd player controller, but thats a big feature to me!
@@squidracerX unfortunately this one lacks a wake up feature as well. I still use it as a primary since I'm used to the PS4 controller layout. I'm not a fan of the offset on the pro controller.
THANK YOU!
I was watching your older video "Your controller could make Animal Crossing WAY Easier", and as I've just started playing Animal Crossing recently I was pretty sold on the idea of not wearing out my Joycon A button anymore (Also sick of plugging the joycons back in to charge, yeah I don't have a charging grip or a better wireless controller).
Don't you mean Nintendoo?
And expect 70 bucks for half a controller
You're complaining about things that are already solved. The separate pro controllers are normal controllers. They're giving you options, what's so wrong about that? It's like complaining about a pizza parlor not advertising their pepperoni pizza, oh I wish they still advertised their pepperoni pizza cause surely nobody is getting that stuff crust crap. Dude just cause they are advertising their new stuff crust pizza doesn't mean you can't still order a pepperoni pizza.
I’ve been rocking the 8BitDo Pro 2 for over 2 years now and I recently just picked up the Game Boy color way of it for multiplayer. Long story short, the controller is so nice I just bought it twice.
Ah man those concave buttons on the old snes one are so key!!
And you can't get them on the new one, only on the old one... :(
The old snes one you’re talking about is actually meant as a tribute towards the game boy actually hahaha I know it looks like a snes one. But yeah, it was meant as a old GB tribute just as This specific controller that he is reviewing is meant as a dedication and as a tribute to the PlayStation’s original DualShock controller
D input is the mode you try on PC when X input doesn't work, mainly on older games, indie games, OR Emulators

Bloody terrific controllers. Bloody terrific hardware in general. My SN30Pro is my dedicated "Travel Controller" and I use their NES inspired Mouse every day at work.
I’ve been contemplating these over official Switch pro controllers, but when I hear about drift in those $70+ ones, it kind of scares me. But seeing these being endorsed by you, Wood, and MDB, I think it’ll be a safe bet. Plus, I’m coming to MHR from MHW, and I prefer a more PS4 feeling controller.
8bitdo has best controllers. Hori is good too. Has a solid left joycon with a dpad. And split pad pro good for big hands. Ans while 8bitdo my fav, I actually thinK horis RAP hyabusa V arcade stick is better than 8bitdos
But id get pro2 or pro+ I got both. I actually like pro+for snes or nes or genesis Era games tho. The concave X n Y just feels right. Otherwise yea pro2 the best call.
You got big hands get the split pad pro. Only downside is no motion. The hori left dpad joycon is cool too I got zelda one. I love the dpad on it idk why. Also no motion control but since right joycon is a normal one you can actually still do motion with one and the hori left joycon. Like doom.eternal works perfectly fine
I like that the mode switch on the back of the controller knows Sonic Adventure Directors Cut exists

Considering the Xbox-style button remapping I’ve done for MHRise, having the abxy on the side of the buttons rather than on the buttons themselves to trip me up is an absolute plus for me!
You can buy the Nintendo Pro Controller on Amazon in US for $60 nearly all the time! Some retail stores I also see it for $60. I think it’s a better value than the powerA or other off brand ones. The SN30 Pro is also a great one as well.
love that you can program it w phone while having it still connected to switch. thats something none of the other video reviews I watched say. that's a huge plus. getting this now 👍👍
The replaceable battery pack idea **is** from Microsoft.
The video deserves a like just for the perfect sponsor part
That was a great "reveal" in the game, it looked like someone kicked the door in while you were "studying". Ha ha!
Those hands are in desperate need of sum sun in there life 😂 alot of echo in your room there Bob
6:07, The trigger Sensitivity is disabled because the switch controllers don't have analog input, only digital. Means, the triggers only know 0 or 1. So either full force, or nothing. So there is no need to have a "sensitivity" because either your are pressing the button, or you aren't.
It's just that every 8bitdo controller I buy breaks with like 50hrs of gameplay :(
You must be beating the fuck out of ya controllers my guy, that's insane
Grid on Switch let's you use the right stick for breaking and accelerating to allow for analogue so swapping the right stick with the triggers would help there
