    8bitdo just can't stop putting out hits! Have a few of their controllers and I'm a huge fan. The Pro 2's design is my favorite, very versatile layout that works for all kinds of games but is especially great for platform-heavy games like Celeste or Dead Cells. With easily replaceable batteries and the new hall-effect joysticks, this thing should be able to last a looong time.
    Great review Lon!

      I also prefer the replaceable batteries. I've had enough controllers die on me over the years that I just can't do without it. Meanwhile, a 10 year old Xbox one controller works perfectly

      Do you recommend this for PC gaming? E.g Tomb Raider and similar games.

      @@romixfox4287 tbh I think for analog stick heavy games(like tomb raider), the Xbox layout is preferable.
      The playstation layout is better for fighting games or platformers

    My issue with hall effect is not with the hall effect themselves it's the perception of it eliminating stick drift. It does but doesn't.
    Hall effect only fixes the electronic side of stick drift, it doesn't fix the mechanical side of stick drift.
    The electronic stick drift is caused by the potentiometer changing resistance which the hall effect does eliminate.
    But there's also the mechanical side of stick drift where the centering mechanism wears down and the thumbstick no longer returns to its calibrated center (aka the stick has a bit of slop just enough to go outside the dead zone).
    I'm all for less stick drift, hall effect is key in that. But they also need to look at beefing up the centering mechanism as well.

    Whoa, had no idea it had motion controls as well. Just got one yesterday and after hearing you say that this is now my definitive Switch controller. The look, feel and performance is honestly so much better imo than Nintendo’s official pro controller.

    I just got a 8BitDo controller with Hall Effect joysticks and it really is a game changer. I didn't know they had the Pro 2 with Hall effect, joysticks, otherwise I would have gotten this one instead. I kind of wish they would make one based off of the Wii U Pro controller, but maybe they will someday.

    I love my 8BitDo Pro 2. I can’t help but feel like it has ever so slightly more lag than my Pro Controller. Could just be a placebo! It’s a really versatile controller though, which is awesome.

    I bought the pro2 hall one some weeks ago and it works awesome. The only issue was if you pait it with bluetooth and later used the adapter, ypu should unpair the controller if ypu use the adapter or it could have some issues like fake movement and buttons not working correctly.

    Both my 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ and Pro 2 non-hall controllers work great with my Onn 4K Pro running Google TV OS for game streaming.
    I use the Steam Link app on the Onn 4K Pro to play games on my living room projector locally streaming games from my gaming PC in my bedroom.

    • @goinginzane
      @goinginzane 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How well does the Onn handle in-home streaming? Steam Link maxes out at 1080p/60 right?

    • @dtape
      @dtape 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@goinginzanemy projector only goes to 1080p and I don't have any displays beyond that to try to max out streaming resolution and framerate of the Onn 4K Pro.
      I don't have other game streaming devices to compare to but I get better performance and image quality with games like Rocket League via the Onn 4K Pro and Steam Link than I do with playing through a Nintendo Switch sitting in the living room.
      Looking at the Steam Link options it looks like it goes up to 8k/60 fps.
      For best performance eg lowest latency and minimal stutters, there's only 1 Wi-Fi jump between my gaming pc and my Onn 4K Pro. I have my gaming pc connected via ethernet to 1 node of my Eero 6 mesh network, and I have the Onn 4K Pro connected to the only other Eero 6 mesh node via a 1 Gigabit usb dongle and ethernet cable. If I don't connect the Onn 4K Pro using ethernet and use the Wi-Fi 6 on the Onn 4K Pro instead, the Steam Link network test doesn't perform as well on my network.
      For anyone using the Onn 4K Pro I highly recommend using the free version of the Projectivy Launcher for Google TV OS that Lon has talked about on this TH-cam channel.

    • @dtape
      @dtape 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Steam Link settings allow for up to 8K/144 fps. I'm guessing that is dependant on if your computer hardware and network can handle whatever resolution and framerate.
      My projector maxes out at 1080p/60 and I have no other displays that can do more than that so I can't test 4K/60 or any other higher resolutions and framerates.
      I get better performance with the Onn 4K Pro, Steam Link and my gaming pc streaming from my bedroom for games like Rocket League than I do with a Nintendo Switch directly connected to my projector playing the same game.
      Important information, I get good performance using only 1 Wi-Fi hop in my network. The gaming PC is connected via ethernet to an Eero 6 mesh network node and the Onn 4K Pro is connected via 1 Gigabit ethernet USB dongle and ethernet cable to the only other Eero 6 node in my network.
      When I tried using 2 Wi-Fi jumps, with the Onn 4K Pro connected by Wi-Fi instead of ethernet, the Steam Link network test showed less consistent performance results.
      If you use the Onn 4K Pro for game streaming I highly recommend using all or close to all ethernet between the Onn 4K Pro and the game streaming host, ie 1 or zero Wi-Fi hops.

    • @dtape
      @dtape 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@goinginzanenot sure why TH-cam is deleting my replies to your comment.
      I get good performance with almost no Wi-Fi hops between my Steam pc and the Onn 4K Pro + 1 gigabit usb ethernet dongle, using mostly ethernet connections. Using more Wi-Fi hops introduces noticeably lower streaming performance in the Steam Link network test.
      Steam Link settings allow for up to 8K/144hz but I can't test past 1080/60 with my displays.

      @@dtape I have a question to this controller. So I have read before that the buttons on the right side have too much space, so you can't press multiple buttons at the same time. It's true? Cuz for like rocket League you need to be able to press them with one finger like boost, jump and drift at the same time. This is my only reason I am still holding myself before buying this cute controller xD

    The no dongle limitation is a deal breaker. Latency is a problem and bluetooth is not as ubiquitous as many might think. The 2.4g dongle is a requirement. No dongle, no purchase.

    The Face Button Layout is backwards Nintendo Theme where it's B A instead of Proper A B. It's also annoying that all but one model have the labeling of the Face Buttons not on the buttons them selves and how the black model that is actually more like dark gray and translucent purple have the letter labeling for the buttons black so it's impossible to see what letter they are in dim light. It's illogical to put dark color text on a dark color back ground.
