    Because of the air bags the design of the steering wheel make you NOT want to hold the steering wheel higher. Holding the wheel at at 2 and 10 o'clock is no longer the best hand position due to the air bag. The tendency to grip the wheel hard before a crash and a high grip on the steering wheel caused too many broken bones. A 3 and 9 o'clock grip is the recommended hand position now.

    • @dchristo10
      @dchristo10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They actually teach the 8 and 4 hand position now, which I can't stand. It puts the arms in the safest position should the airbag go off. Of course you could argue that driving that way increases your risk of accident...causing your airbag to go off.

    • @Nemoticon
      @Nemoticon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dchristo10 There is truth in this... I also think that with modern electric steering being so light and uncommunicative now, higher steering hand positions don't have the same benefit as it previously had. The context has changed a lot with how technology has progressed and how we approach driving now, for better or worse, it remains to be seen.

    • @orangeman3343
      @orangeman3343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As well as saying most affordable option rather than saying it's simply affordable it's worth nothing it's a U.S review and cars in there are cheaper I think. It starts from $37k which in GBP even with the current rubbish conversion rate is just over £28,000. I'd buy this over a Model 3 personally, even if the Model 3 is a bit cheaper, but they're different types of cars so I'm not sure anyone in the market for a BZ would even consider a Model 3. More likely a Model Y but still a different market. The Toyota is a purpose built SUV EV with some off-road capability albeit less so for the FWD version of course, the Model Y is a raised Model 3 that's targeted at road use only.
      Would be good to see some proper reviewers inc range tests. Too many reviews just having a poke about in them, and even with camouflaged bodywork in some cases still. Taking orders for them so some proper full reviews now would be good

    The same ‘butt-ugly’ design choices that prevented me from ever considering a Prius have been made with this vehicle. The wheel arches mean the only paint choice I could make is gloss black (more Darth Vader than Stormtrooper).
    The instrument cluster looks like they couldn’t decide between a conventional panel or a HUD, so they stuck it halfway between.
    As a long term Toyota Hybrid owner (Camry and RAV4) I think I’ll pass on this attempt.

    • @bcluett1697
      @bcluett1697 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes they would have made more $$ styling it like a mini Rav4 and giving a name instead of an acronym. I think they don't make enough markup on EVs so they want to stifle sales until they can figure out how to get costs down to the level of the ICE and hybrid vehicles.

      Design is the smallest problem there (all Toyota models). Interior is ugly, infantile made of crappy materials. Simply Toyota.

    • @georgeidarraga4006

      @@podunkman2709 that piano black is a poor choice. The rest of the interior lacks cohesiveness. It’s like the person who designed the seats didn’t talk to the person who designed the dash who didn’t talk to the person who designed the infotainment center who didn’t talk to the driver display designer, etc.

    • @tomfromnorthcarolina1491
      @tomfromnorthcarolina1491 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't agree with you more. The many design features that this person likes, I think are ugly. I agree, have buttons on the steering wheel, the center console, below the display and on the display seems to take the design approach of when it doubt, add more buttons. One of the main issues I had with my 2011 Chevy Volt is that it had duplicate physical buttons for most of the soft buttons. This Toyota seems to follow the same aesthetic. Also, it would be helpful to spend less time on the look of the car and more time on EV features like range, charging speed, acceleration. Toyota looks an awful lot like a car company that will not be competitive in the EV world.

    I am a Toyota fan, but when I look at the materials here, the quality and feel is very modest. In addition, the doors close poorly (despite open windows) and with a clattering noise. It is also unbelievable that Toyota has not managed to place a storage tray for the charging cable in the front "trunk". The luggage compartment roller blind, which probably originates from a Camry from 1992, matches this. And the crowning glory of incompetent engineers is the speedometer behind the steering wheel, which can probably not be read by 80% of the world's population, because the steering wheel simply covers him!
