Trail damage while playing follow the leader! 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 4x4 Offroad

  • Went out with the club 'grandfather' to run some of the modified trails. Had to push through a section that was pulling fenders off a few of the wranglers. My fender was pushed into the front of my door and i had to get help to bend it back enough to get out. Had quite a few dents, and a couple deep scratches that went all the way through the paint. But i still had a great day in the woods!
    And yes, we had permission from the land owner to take the bypass route, i asked Keith a couple times to make sure it was good. (he knows them)
    Trailhawk ride July 18th, stock/newb friendly. Hit me up for details!

    Just bought mine last week. I wanted a wrangler, but the more I looked into it the Cherokee Trailhawk had the best of both worlds. I’m impressed it keeps up so well

      It doesn't look too bad after i had it pulled out. Its not perfect, but i'm sure similar will happen again. I just needed it straight enough to not give the detailers any reason for complaint when it goes in for its yearly renewal.

      Jeremy Dohner Hi Jeremy, if u are thinking offroad by any means go for it. But if u are thinking of buying the trailhawk to drive on gravel roads or go camping. Not a great idea. I have a trailhawk, non off road versions are more stable on the highway when it comes to handling, a its also a stiff ride coz of the offroad suspensions. Consider a limited if its mainly highway driving

    Great video. Frankly, I wouldn't even bother fixing the left front fender or other dings and dents: if you're gonna have fun running trails, there will be damage -- think of them as beauty marks. Have fun!

      I wanted to get the fender pulled back out as it was interfering with the door, and then made the fender flare have a HUGE gap. $200 for the fender and door, so not upset about it. I painted over the large scratch at the bottom of the door.

      Keith hadn't run either in a very long time, before we got to salt-lady he said it could be bad, but if we have to winch everyone up thats what we'll do! Everyone needed pulls at the very top where the mud holes are because there was zero grip in all that slop.

    Well was nice while it lasted. Poor thing destroyed. Thanks for the video, this keeps me from going to hard . your trade in value about 5k. I love my trailhawk to much for that lol.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My trade in value tanked the night i got rear ended for 19k in damage. These dents aren't dropping it much compared to that. And it i was truely concered about value i could just replace that quarter panel and no more dent. But there is enough trail rash from branches on ALL of the plastic i'm nit really bothered by a dent or two.

      @FearlessTrailhawk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use Auto 99% of the time, will use sand/mud to get through a mud hole or if i need to maintain wheelspin on a climb, then right back to auto after i'm through, same with rock mode. I put a video out last spring that covers how i use the modes. th-cam.com/video/sbQ0b02u-K8/w-d-xo.html

Had to pry it out of the way before i could safely open the door. Its something that once you've seen it, it makes total sense. If you want to come along on the 18th that'd be cool. $200 for a decent job of it, and the guy was a local who is also a bit of an offroad enthusiast, so i don't mind giving him some scratch, will likely be calling him the next time it happens! There is this thing, it’s called tire deflation and it helps. The level of struggle by these rigs on simple trials could be minimized.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ummm, so far as im aware most were? I know i was at about 18 psi. I can't say for sure though as i didn't inspect each set of tires. But once the mud gets slick there isn't much you can do.

      The main 'trails' are all public 'roads', its just there are a LOT of bypasses or other offshoots that are technically private. Dude, there no wheel spacer, it would help you protect against fence

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What fence? Wheel spacers don't work the same on a KL as they do a wrangler, they actually augment the rub in the wheel well (thats how geometry works), and i can't grind my pinch seam back any further...so spacers are a no-go for me.
      And pushing my wheels out 1/2" wider would not have prevented any of the damage i incurred on this ride.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Trailhawk trim on the Cherokee actually has a low range, and a legit rear locker. The system is called Active Drive Lock. The regular cherokee trims have Active Drive 1, which does not include low range.
