  • On the way to Moab last month a group of us detoured through Ouray to hit Black Bear and Imogene. Beautiful scenery as expected in the San Juan Mountains. I had some video camera issues and lost some footage that would have been neat, but still had a great time!
    Still have lots of video to go through from the trip so stay tuned!
    Mods:

    Loved black bear pass, dude did it about 5 days ago. The camera doesn't do justice to just how scary the off camber steps before the switchbacks are. People always talk about the switch backs, but honestly they were cake walk. While the crawling and rocks were honestly more technical on engineer pass and poughkeepsie gulch were more technical, the giant drop off of black bar was much scarier. Flopping isn't as scary when it isn't paired with certain death. I did them all in a stock XJ with front and rear lockers.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, its a mental trail more than anything. Though last year we had a guy completely freeze up near the top of Engineer...that was a fun scenario. But yeah the switchbacks in my mind weren't anything really, just that first one that requires 5 pt turn...

      Nope, just flat 'gravel' from those steps all the way down the rest of the trail. At that first switchback that is pictured at 13:04 its just a gravel road. There is a tiny stream crossing about 100 ft further, but nothing that would be considered a 'big drop' by any stretch. There were some good drops up before the steps that i only had dash-cam for (or forgot to turn the camera on for).
      There are some people who like to jumble the clips up to force people to keep watching the whole video to see the interesting bits that would have otherwise only been in the middle of the video. I've seen a few Black Bear vids that, for me, were hard to watch because they were so randomized it just made my head go crazy...

    Looks like a great ride! Is your club a "Jeep only " considering all the capable brands for off- road?

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many offroad capable brands out there, no hard feelings against any of them, but yes, this club, Mid Ohio Jeepers Organization is a "Jeep only" club.
      There are numerous groups in our area who are open to all makes, so its not like there is a huge lack of stuff for them to do.
      MOJO is already the largest Jeep club in our state, and we regularly have 40+ rigs show up for our monthly club rides (we split into several groups for the actual trails), so its not like we really need to open our rides up to every other make, as the group sizes would get a bit ridiculous.

    Question for you. You say you use a partial hazard sky lift paired with the Dobinson springs and shock. What do you mean by partial?

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      .75" as opposed to the standard 1.5-2". Hazard Sky was the only one willing to do the non-standard amounts.

    • @amdestined
      @amdestined 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fearless Trailhawk have you had any CV issues with that? I went with the 1.5 because with the 1inch extra the Dobinson springs give a Trailhawk, it would keep me at 2.5. Which is supposedly about as high as we can go without major driveline issues.
      Also, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@amdestined i opted for the stiffer version of the dobs springs, as my first attempt with the regular dobs springs only yielded about .5" from the springs for whatever reason.
      It currebtly sits between 2.5 and 3", i just don't quite remember what it was beforehand. (I did not take pre-lift measurement pics)
      No CV issues related to the lift yet, had two go bad from other causes of boot failure, but none from the lift yet, have about 30k miles with lift.

    Buddy your jeep is alot more capable than i thought they were, just for my curiosity ,doing what you do , the places you go and difficulty of the trails you do , and taking into consideration how good your jeep does , just wondering with the price of one of those trailhawks what was the deciding factor in getting your jeep over a wrangler ?

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate how the wrangler drives as a daily...and its too big for me. More creature comforts as well. Plus for the rubicon it was higher than i wanted to pay. Mine was total, after lifetime warranty, taxes, all the extras, totaled 40k. And i like to be different.

    Is the 2 inch lift you have listed in your mods the one that come from the factory with having a trailhawk?? Only asking because I recently purchased a 2019 trailhawk and I’m putting some money into it

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Genrally speaking, when people, and shops, talk about the lifts...they are talking about how much it lifts the vehicle from how it comes stock (from the factory). Meaning, the TH trim comes with the extra 1" over the other trims, any lifts put on add to that.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Negative, and negative. Wheel spacers also cause more rubbing issues with the fender liner and pinch seam in most cases as it pushed the tire 'out' and closer to those bits when the wheel is turned. I do rub on the subframe at FULL lock, but that is easy enough to avoid.

      During climbs and such i usually keep it in 1st or 2nd gear, otherwise when in low it can shift a little rough when it tries to jump into 3rd/4th for whatever reason. Then on the downhills i will keep it in manual to help engine brake it more than wearing out my brake pads.

      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Its a 'trail rated' Jeep...of course people are going to put bigger tires on it. And that extra bit of the pinch seam doesn't really do much for the vehicle. Was disappointed at the look of the new wagoneer...c'mon Jeep you can do better than that!
