  • A group of friends decided to hit up the Danial Boone Back Country Byway last month and it was a great time! Beautiful trails! This vid covers most of Mountain Springs/Furnace Road. I missed lots of good stuff, but i had a great day on the trails!

      Lol, he doesn't care about the trailhawk. He's a local that hates all the ppl driving past his property. That dude put a gate across the road claiming it private property. He's been cited for sitting hay bales in the road and lighting them on fire, plus a few other things.

    I love that you are pushing your TH to the limit and posting the videos. I've become a fan of these Cherokees and your vids are the biggest reason why. If my next ride isn't a Ford Ranger or other pickup it'll definitely be a KL.

      I was actually looking at the new Ford Ranger when I got my 2019 KL, it was more the really good deal I couldn't pass that sold me, but what I liked about the Ranger was I could actually still get Vynle floors with the upgraded 4x4 package and stuff. All the other trucks wanted you to get a bunch of upgreade nav system fancy stuff I didn't want or need. I just wanted the upgraded 4x4 package is all.

    Thank you for the terrific video once again. I admit that I was influenced by your videos when I purchased my 2021 Trail Hawk. However, l don’t plan to off-road as aggressively as you. Two tracks and fire roads are all I’ll ever plan to traverse. Continue to enjoy your hobby!

      I did the MFC lift on mine and did 31.5" K02s. The only thing lacking is the lack of suspension travel.

    That old guy is always trying to stop ppl. He used to block the road with debris and claim it was private property. That stopped when the county hit him with a cease and desist order, plus a fine for the fires he was setting in the middle of the road with hay bales.

    I was up in Missouri the other week visiting family and had a blast going around on some of the old country roads (sadly many been paved since I lived there). Crossing creeks and such. Going to for sure go back later. Would love to make it up to your neck of the woods some day.

      Did you come up with a solution to your rockers? I was actually looking at that area as I'm about to get ready to drill and stall my RRO this weekend and was thinking. Maybe after I install it I can get some one to weld it out like how you put the caulking to seal it....though that might mean instead of pulling the blots out of the holes it might rip more of the panneling.

    I bought the 2021 TH inspired by your videos, highly motivated until I kept hearing why didn't I buy a real Jeep? Then, I watched more of your videos...started some wheeling myself...yeah, I have a real Jeep, just not a Wrangler, I wheel in comfort and style! Thanks for the motivation

      Hear the real jeep thing all the time wheeling a liberty. They usually stop when we concor the same obstacles of a 5 inch lift, 33's and twin locked.

      @@FearlessTrailhawk I'll be wheeling my 2019 KL TH at the sand dunes at Silver Lake State Park, MI, the weekend of 9/18/2021. The rest of our group drives Toyota, so, "Calling all Trailhawks........reserve your campsite before they sell out." Driving on sand is a gentle introduction to off-road driving. Little risk for damage. Does anyone have advice on the optimum drive train settings to climb Test Hill? So far, setting the transmission to shift manually and leaving it in first gear works best.

      @@iyhnALEX 1st gear, high range, sand mode. Air down to 10-15. Once i dropped to 10 psi i went up very next try and the next few tries. It will try to upshift still while in manual mode, if it shifts...your run is done, back down and try again. Be mindful,of some of the 'whoops' near the bottom of the hill in various places...hit those too hard and damage will occur.

    I got a trailhawk simply because the mile long driveway to my house is like this trail, but sand. We live at the coast and everything is built on sand....thick sand every where. I also use it for surf fishing as a amputee it makes live much easier. As dragging all my gear to the surf with out it is nearly impossible.

      It was mostly the ruts i think that caused the most issues. And there were quite a few drops that were rather tall.

    I had one that was the same color and had a lift with 33 inch off road tires, lighting, rock rails, Bull bar, rear bumper guard, and a whole lot more. Pics are posted on my website but I have since sold it and got a 2021 Jeep grand Cherokee. I miss my "Trail Demon"!

      On a KL...33 inch tires requires a completely custom suspension...i only know of a few KLs that had them...and it was a very expensive custom job.

      I did the build myself but I could be mistaken. I did have to do some trimming in the wells to get them to fit. Either way I loved the look of it. I forget how high the lift was but it was not cheap. I had to do a ton of research to figure out what would and wouldnt work. I like your videos, they really show what the Cherokee is capable of.

      Used a dremel and hammer to reform and make larger rubber nutserts fit. I then also applied a liberal amount of industrial adhesive...it will now stay until the thing is junked...

      Can you bolt it then weld the pinch weld then weld the rock rail to the newly welded pinch weld? Then you have the bolts plus the weld holding it all together?

      Yeah, there was a stump that was leaning in, rail got caught under it as the Jeep lifted up. The rails are designed to take loads from UNDER not above. No step rail would survive this situation well without damaging the vehicle in the process.
      I wouldn't trade the 'step rail' for the smaller 'stock' rails for anything. The rocky road super slider is the most solid rock rail on the market. The step has saved my doors from SOO MANY impacts and scratches. I guess i really should post a "why get the 'step' rails over the mopar rails" video. Ask any of the stocks on my november ride how the only people who didn't get door damage from that dirt bank were the ones with the 'step' rails.

      imho, CAI aren't worth it in most vehicles. But for something you are going to offroad, from what i've heard, CAI are not a great idea. That is the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

      If you wheel, don't get a CAI, get a snorkel.

      @@lionheart3463 If it has the towing group, you should have plenty of power with no problems for the foreseeable future. Even without it you should be just fine. Problems start with weight once you start in with a front bumper, rear tire carrier, AND a roof tent. That said, expect less “Sport” performance, otherwise that V6 has plenty.

      I have a K&N CAI but I only got it cause I wanted place to put a compressor under the hood and the stock box/tube took to much space. So I got a CAI for a temp work until I do a snorkel. It also doesn't put your stop box directly pointing down into your fender well so your less likely to suck up water. The way I see it if I'm in water deep enough for the CAI or to need a snorkel I'm in trouble any way.

    Which radio you use the most? CB or ham or GMRS? Do any radio mojo required to have?

      GMRS/FRS. Not many still run CB's in this area for trails. Midland and Baofeng are popular options. MOJO 'requires' a radio for the trail rides because then everyone gets all the information. The little handheld sets work decent though sometimes they can be a little weak. I love my Midland MicroMobile setup...great range and clarity!

    What rock rails do you have and how do they mount? Seems like that rail got ripped out/off the Jeep without any issue.

      I have a video where i describe all of that...99% of the time i'm just in regular 4Low and Auto mode. Using the other modes/assists on an as needed basis.

    Can you explain what happened to the rock slider, i am looking to put those on my 16 Trailhawk.
    I was concerned about the strength of the body mount locations.

      Physics happened. They are bolted along the bottom to the punch seam, and have nutserts in the body sheet metal on top. That was the weight of the Jeep pulling upwards...either the stump was coming out of the ground, or the rails were staying under the stump. The rails are designed to take force the other direction. They are not designed to hold 5,000 lbs DOWN. They are designed to hold it UP...and they do that job VERY well!
      Its sorta like a car door, it is desigbed to hold obe direction, once its close you can push on it and it doesn't move. But if you push it forward...it will eventually bent or break things as it wasn't designed sustain force in that direction.
      10 of 10, would buy these rails again in a heartbeat.

    I’m guessing your RDM/rear diff is cracked from cv axle flex and your PTU is on its last legs. Or maybe you’re on your second or third of both.

      Nope, no cracks. Never had any cracks in the 5 years i've wheeled it. Now, i have had the planetary gears grenade, but thats it. Current issue is a leaky module on top of the rear diff that i can only assume is causing my 'transfer case clutch pressure sensor' code atm. But no cracks.

      Bigger rubber nutserts, and a liberal amount of industrial adhesive to hold it in place! It is solid now!
      Apparently they have now switched to metal nutserts. FYI, all the 'step' style rails that protect the doors with the extra step bar use nutserts to mount into the rocker panels, along with 8 bolts through the pinch seam at the bottom. They are designed to take abuse from UNDER...not so much from ABOVE.
      100% would buy again.

      @@brunolambert6087 🤷 thiswas one of the more torn up sections, but FinCastle is also consered a hard part. I've only been down there once, i have no real knowledge to base off of for which section is the hardest. They also just added a few new parts the past fall.
      You'll have to ask someone with a lot more experience on those trails than me. Sorry, thats not really the answer you were looking for.

      Welding is my next step if the larger nutserts and industrial adhesive don't hold. I'm just not good enough (i don't think) to weld to that thin of sheet metal.

      Oh i'm sure! This was the most challenging of the ones i ran. I did turn around on Fincastle when i got to the stream and it was well over 3ft deep, and that isn't a quick crossing. I respect water!

    All of the Wrangler drivers have to laughing about a primary front drive Cherokee on a trail like this. I think you can go faster just hiking through these trails than driving them. That little Cherokee is more capable than it looks though. Just not cut out for these kinds of trials.

      Every wrangler in this group 100% thought i could do it, just laughing at the land owner who was trying to discourage us from going.
      Where did it fail me here? Only issue i had was driver error by catching my rock rail under the stump, same thing would happen to any other rig.
      Its also in 4wd more often than it is fwd (pretty much only fwd whike at cruising speeds...everything else it has both front and rear engaged)

    Get rid of the girlfriend, trying to impress her has taken your b____ away vs the other videos i have watched. No doubt a difficult trail but i have never seen you so afraid of the ride. Just saying!

      What you haven't seen was three months ago i was in Slade (this area of KY), and it cost me over $4k and the loss of my lifetime warranty. Plus 1.5 months of not having a vehicle. Ever since that, i'm more cautious when more than 200 miles from home. And definitely not trying to impress that lady with my Jeep, she has her own lifted JT.

      @@FearlessTrailhawk I here ya there. I paid over 4k in repairs on my jeep also. I don't wheel it super hard. I am more of a crawl guy.
