- This week we had the challenge of Dee picking a fabric from Dory's stash that she didn't like, then Dory had to make something to change her mind. Dory had to pick a fabric from Dee's stash she didn't like and Dee had to make something to change her mind.
Dory made Simplicity 4946 from a white with pink dots fabric that Dee didn't like at all. It was easy fabric to work with, however frayed easily - so the French Seams came to the rescue. The fabric was purchased at a thrift store. Two yards for $1.99. Dory made view D with a lapped zipper and hook and eye closure. It was a very easy make. Besides being a bit short - Dee did like the look after it was made up.
Dee made Butterick 6943 View A from fabric she had received in a FabricMart Fabrics fashion bundle. The buttons were from her button box. While her pattern was easy it took a lot of time. The collar was a big difficult she thought. Her fabric also frayed so she used French Seams too.
We also included some beautiful makes from Sew'n Debi's Dream.

Wonderful makes yet again. HEY HEY NATE! This morning was a bit rough to handle with the time change but the sun is shining and the cardinals are begging at the windows for me to fill the feeders. They have been a joy to watch in this cool weather. BRING ON SPRING!

Dee, once again you have created a very classy looking garment. The fabric is very attractive and the matching of the stripes gives it an upscale look. It's amazing to me that those mystery bundles really get our creative juices flowing. It was good to see Nate.

Both outfits are lovely and great for the warmer weather to come. Dory you have great legs and with the slim sleeves it is a very stylish spring dress. Dee you will be so cool in that top. You made a good choice changing the sleeves.

Really like both of your makes. Dory, my husband came in while you were doing your reveal and he said, “Wow, that looks nice. The shorter look makes her legs look nice. Why is she worried about her calves?” I agree. Can’t wait to see what you girls make with one yard or less.

Hey hey Nate! It's good to see you. Dee and Dory both your makes are lovely. Dory the shorter length dress looks nice and ready for Easter. Dee I have the same pattern but haven't made it yet. You did a great job. The striped fabric adds a lot of dimension.

Hi, Nate - good to see you! You both made great items once again - glad the French seam technique is coming in handy for you, too - it is worth the extra effort, I think. Our daughter lives in Ann Arbor, MI, and last week she got her flip-flops out - spring is so crazy. Love the viewer make of the reupholstered chair cushion as well - very nice, and so is the wall organizer!

Wow! I love Dorie's dress! The shorter length looks good. Dee you did a really good job with that fabric. I gotta say that fabric is not my favorite but it really turned out nice with that pattern. I wish you ladies were closer to me because I have a hard time matching fabric with patterns.
Dee struggles with that too. One suggestion from Dory,...she has a notebook where she puts pictures and glues them in of clothes already made that she sees in magazines and catalogs. She calls it her idea book! She will show it sometime on a video.

Really loved both, would feel confident to sew either pattern and know it would turn out. So true finding the right pattern for fabric is key to success. Dee your basic top looks so nice and dressier than a regular T-shirt, is it a certain brand or fabric content?? Would like to get some

Nate says hi! The basic top is called Heat 32 degrees found at Costco. Our local one has sold out of them for the season. They also have Cool 32 degrees now for the summer.
Both makes are nice. Hey hey Nate..gud to see you. On Simplicity 4946 I looked up reviews on Pattern Review becuz that bust line was messing with me. I know the big 4 design on a B cup block. Something that must be accounted for if you are bigger or smaller. That bust line should be under the bust, not cutting the bust in half. Barring that, the dress is beautiful. Good choice of fabric n the shorter look is awesome. I have to agree with another commeter that you really look slimmer in that shorter dress. Thanks ladies for sharing both makes 😊

@sewingfun haha 😄 I would hardly call it research. It is a nice dress n the pattern envelope makes it hard to see where that line should fall. Because I liked the dress for myself I decided to look it up n share.
The length of Dory's dress looks great. You definitely aren't showing too much leg. What did your husband think? It seems to me that he commented on the length of one of the other outfits you made a while back, that he thought it was too short. Both outfits turned out great. The fabric styles and colours suit each of you, and you both have different style and colour tasted, which is likely why you had it in your stash and the other didn't like it.

Both of your makes turned out very well. I think both patterns were perfect for the fabric. I hesitate to say this and do so with utmost courtesy and respect. I looked up the pattern you used Dory and I may very well be mistaken but I think the line across the bust is suppose to be under the bust. Of course I’m not seeing sewing pictures and sewing instructions. I’m sure that line would be in the very same place on me as I’m in the same age bracket and size as you are. I know I have to lower the apex on darts on most patterns for my “mature” body. I’m not trying to be offensive or mean just wondering. The length looks great too. You don’t need to be afraid to show your calves.
