Transfer Case Fluid Change, Quick & Easy.

The most common overlooked and forgotten fluid change on 4X4's. It's actually quick and easy. This is the same procedure for most Chevy and GMC full size trucks and suv's. It will also be very similar for older models as well, just a different looking transfer case.
Things needed: (2) qts of Dexron VI or compatible fluid.
18mm wrench or socket
White Loctite 567 or a new plug
A hand pump that fits your fluid bottle.
Drain pan
Torque wrench to torque drain plug to 13-15 ft lbs or hand tighten.
Don’t over tighten, transfer cases are very soft.

Dexron 6 is transmission fluid and is for the awd transfer case. you need auto track 2 fluid for your transfer case bc it’s a 4wd

I have a 2012 sierra Z71/4x4, and both the paper manual and the online spec by VIN is Dexron VI.

My 11' sierra has 172k and I bought it at 163k I'll be changing it when I do my oil change since I don't know if its even been changed thanks for the help👍🏼

Are there o-ring gaskets that go on the plug before putting back in?

I can't remember what was on that plug? I'm thinking it was some type of rubber or plastic thin washer that sealed it?

Saves you 80 bucks, my dealer charges 100 for it and 179 for each diff fluid change.
