  • Hello and welcome to Zero Forced.
    This video demonstrates why 07-13 Silverado/Sierra door speakers go bad.
    Most people have the same issue with their 07-13 Silverado or Sierra door speakers not working. I have come up with a simple solution on how to fix them permanently. You will unfortunately have to replace your current stock door speakers. I bought a pair of Kicker DSC65's, a pair of speaker baffles, and a pair of speaker harnesses. You will also see a cool trick on how to make speaker brackets for your after market speakers by using your stock speaker.
    Thank you for watching.

    I have a 2007 GMC Yukon XL with an 8 speaker, non Bose system (2 tweeters in the A pillars, 6 1/2” speakers in each of the 4 doors, and some super small midrange speakers in the far back D pillars). All the door speakers have died, but the tweeters and far back speakers still work fine. I’m replacing the door speakers with some Focal Polyglass speakers I have sitting around, and will be using aftermarket brackets, wiring harnesses, and installing foam baffles to protect these speakers. I see you installed your baffles under the brackets, but I’m planning on installing mine between the top of the brackets and the speakers, and trimming off the excess. I’ve used foam baffles before and wasn’t too happy with the loss of mid bass, but I’ve read you can cut a hole into the very bottom of the baffle starting the size of a quarter and going up from there, or even completely remove the very bottom of the baffle on the inside to allow for better airflow for the speakers, and help improve the mid bass response. Either way, it’ll still be putting out a lot more sound having all 8 speakers working. Especially since the door speakers put out most of the sound in this vehicle.

    I replaced all of my speakers in my 09 GMC sierra SLE. I bought those baffles and they do protect from water but rolling the windows down can, and did on my truck, move those baffles and then they will collect water in the bottom. I also, noticed that it had a tight sound but didn't sound as good I thought they could. I removed the baffles, and the sound 3 times as good as before. They are the Kicker brand.

      I will agree that the baffles do damp the sound quality. My baffles never moved on me. Luckily. Glad you got that full sound you were wanting to get.

    When you do your rear speakers use a bright colored marker Mark your holes, drill your holes and then mount the speaker. Also, cut a hole in the bootom of the baffel so you can get some base reflex

  • @noahkb80
    @noahkb80 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I wouldve advised against the baffles. They reduce bass alot, unless they are speakers specified for small air enclosures. The way they work, is the door itself serves almost as the box for the speaker. So youre dramatically reducing the amount of airspace for the speaker to hit with and reduce it to just higher end quick popping bass, and you lose all that lower end deep extending bass

    • @kurtmcdonald7113
      @kurtmcdonald7113 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The water damages the speaker by dripping from the top. You could cut the entire bottom half of the baffle off and have the same protection with the speakers being open to the door panel. As a bonus, 2 baffles would now be enough for 4 speakers

  • @nathanchamness1778
    @nathanchamness1778 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I did the same on my '08 Sierra, but used a Bosch multi-tool to cut the plastic. No melted plastic and minimal sanding afterward. In my truck, the rear door speakers were clearly stamped "8 Ohm". I was expecting 4 ohm speakers.

  • @4x4le
    @4x4le 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    did you go with larger speaker baffles so you could put it behind the the holder or is that the 6.5"?

  • @stephengrant2677

    Nice job if you're keeping the door unblemished. Happened to my '99 burb and delco speakers have a RIDICULOUS price. I tried using Duco model cement and , NOTHING. But i talked to a guy who re-cones marshal speakers. He says use the 4 ohm and not 8 ohm. The 8 ohm are for big tube amps and will only sound like tin cans. Another problem is that the oem installer sometimes uses a full baffle, IF they have enough, the cones are not waterproof either. Everything stock worked so-so on the oem until i fixed the front driver cone then they all shit the bed.

    I’m about to replace all my speakers in my 13 Silverado ext cab, went to Crutchfield and put in your year, make and model. The speakers come with new mounting brackets and a adapter wire for simple replacement. I’m going to run all my speakers through an amp I had. I initially bought those baffles but I read a lot of bad reviews and videos. Instead I went with Stinger Roadkill foam rings.

    • @urielhernandez3286
      @urielhernandez3286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those baffles are to protect the speaker from getting water and to last longer it’s not meant to improve sound and the Stinger Roadkill foam rings is made to improve the sound and don’t remember if it also reduces rattle

    Exact same non bose UQ3 enhanced system(6 spkr) installed in a 2010 chevrolet 1500 v8(5.3) equipted single cab long bed work truck i've driven at work, non cd radio along with power locks and power windows. With the volume turned up 3/4 way, i swear it sounds like it has a small factory amp in it somewhere, its louder than normal and so clear, no distortion whatsoever. I never thought this kind of system would ever have been installed from the factory, much less an option in work trucks when the bare basic amenaties would be the norm.

      MolsonM3 they will always work but the stock stereo amplifier only puts out so much power so they will sound more clear and louder but if you want them louder you should connect an aftermarket amp in like 400 watts under 800 though and it will sound crazy loud

  • @popalock85
    @popalock85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey man. What stopped you from placing the boom mat in the mounting bracket before you actually mounted the speaker? Given the flexibility of polethylene foam, it seems like if you took that approach, when you mounted the speaker into the bracket it would have created a much more solid seal and you could have potentially carved off any excess foam. Only thing I see holding you back would be if the cup itself was larger than your mounting hole...Hummmm.
    I am working on a friends system in his 2007 Tahoe. Might purchase some boom mats to give it a shot when I replace his door speakers. Good video. Thanks for posting.

I wouldn't recommend these kickers either. but then again, I'm not sure what full range would sound like because my rear doors were never done. but the suffer from not having a deep bass. but if you have an amp and subs, then you'll be set because the have very clear mids and highs.

    • @zeroforced1853
      @zeroforced1853  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shane Hansen thanks for the props! As for the baffle and clip ordeal, what I mean is that when you put the modded plastic bezel that the speaker is mounted to back in the pocket, make sure the clip on the back side of the bezel clips over the foam baffle at the top of the pocket after you make sure the top corners of the foam baffle are pulled up tight. If you don't pull the top corner tabs up tight, it will leave the top side of the foam baffle bowing inward leaving the speaker exposed

      My truck had similar symptoms. It honestly could be anything from a short at a connector or just a bad speaker. You could always take a speaker from another door and plug it in and if it instantly works, then that means most likely you have a bad speaker. If it’s the same thing as the original speaker, then you have a short somewhere in the wiring from the head unit to that speaker specifically. I had to do a run through before coming to the conclusion of water damage. When they are dry, you almost can’t tell they were ever wet unless side to side with the same doesn’t that has never been wet. Hope that helps.

    Two words; Construction Adhesive...Smear a small bead around the circumfrence of the speaker and on the OEM mounting and they will become one for life...no drilling required. Hell...you can pretty much adhere it to the door if you're outta options. It's some STRONG stuff...

    The issue with my 2011 Silverado non Bose is that the rear speakers only work sometimes. It's completely random. Sometimes one will work, sometimes both are working then sometimes it'll be several months when neither are working then randomly they're playing. Both front speakers always work. Has anyone else experienced this?

    • @zeroforced1853
      @zeroforced1853  ปีที่แล้ว

      My truck did the same until I did the speaker upgrade. My guess is they are either getting wet or the connectors are eroding. If you are up to it, take the door panel, un fasten the speaker and inspect the connectors for erosion and the cone for rips and stains. But honestly, if you go that far into inspecting them, you might as well replace them while you are at i lol. Anywho, if they are cutting in and out, it’s a connection issue. The way I tested my wiring was I used a working speaker from another door to make sure the wiring itself isn’t the issue.

    Your main problem is not your speakers. You have a check engine light on and a tire inflation warning light. It is much more important to address these issues first. Judging from your tastes in music you would be better off with NO speakers.
