Solid video. Just what I was looking for. Easy to listen to and without all the b.s. music in the background. Well done. And the good-n-tight torque spec is great. Will be shamelessly stealing that one.
Excellent video. About the fluids. I wonder if the 205 was built differently in those generations to require different fluid, or if the fluids advanced to the point where Dex/Merc ATF would protect properly and not have the parasitic losses of gear oil?
Thank you! just the video I was looking for. Just purchased a 72 K5 and in process of changing all the fluids. Without removing the NP205 are there any seals that can be redone?
Almost sounds like your lincakge is to tight look at the transmission mount it might be shifting around causing the linkage to move or it could be the shift fork in the t case being worn out
Thanks! Mine drained out ATF, it's an '80 model, built in late '79. Tag on the side reads 205 is part time 4wd has locking hubs and looks the same as yours. I'm not sure which fluid to refill with. Gut says gear oil but thrown by ATF being drained out. It was quite fresh looking so maybe previous owner changed with incorrect fluid?
drove my 77 in the snow in 4wd for the first time. never checked the transfer case fluid. Might have destroyed it lol. You live you learn. worth it for the fun.
I am original owner of 1977 K10 with 79,000 miles. The transfer case was originally fulltime 4X4 and converted to part time 4X4. Which fluid do I use? GL-5 80W-90 gear lube for part time or10W-30 for fulltime?
I’ve read that if you have a automatic transmission and if you’re worried about fluid leaking into the NP205 you should just use ATF. What’s your take?
Hmm...I would still stick with manufacturers recommendations personally. Each NP transfer case uses a different type and so I’m not sure if that’s interchangeable, but if anything I think the ATF would leak through seals before the heavier 80w-90 would.
Can u please make a video on how to replace your transmission oil pan and filter ..... and give information about the other gaskets that are in there !? Pls n thank u
Congratulations! You made it to my Square Body 4x4 Tips playlist. It pays millions of invisible dollars.

What did you use as a transfer pump did you buy that or make it?

I’d use the gear lube for the part time transfer case.
@@MidwestGarage thank you.
@@MidwestGarage wouldn't you use ATF as it was originally a fulltime? Gears and chains are still mostly from original.

81 to 87 if it’s a manual still use 80-90
👍🏼😊
So... I shouldn't have red fluid leaking from my np205? It's supposed to be gear oil... well shit.
Thanks for the great info
