    Today I went ahead and just changed the oil filter and not the oil...it was not due for a complete change but I wanted to just put in a new filter(the previous dealer filter was very dirty). Got a 36mm socket from Amazon to fit on that filter cover(2013 Verano 2.4L). Not a lot of room to maneuver in there to grab the filter cap. I also used a 6" extension plus a universal swivel joint extension which really helped since I could not get the extension perfectly straight from the filter cap. The cap was installed so tight I had to use my long-handled torque wrench for leverage! Finally got it loose. Tried to re-install the filter while attached to the cap but could not get the cap to remain vertical to start the threading so I first seated the filter and then installed the cap which has to snap onto the filter...new O-ring was added to the cap as well. There are a couple of hoses that make it difficult to install the cap but if you can remove one or both it makes it much easier. Glad I did this, cost me only around $8.00. the oil could always use some extra cleaning before the next oil change! :)

    That “gasket” you’re pointing out at the bottom, below the oil pump is the oil pan gasket.

    That bottom "rail" gasket... you didn't get ripped off. The bottom "lip" that you see is actually the oil pan gasket. No problem putting a little bit of RTV down there. I don't recommend doing the grinding on the tab to the oil pickup... while it's on the motor, over the oil pan. All those metal shavings you cut off go right into your oil pan. You also should add oil to the pump before installing it. Then remove the ignition and fuel pump fuses, and turn the key to prime the pump until you see oil pressure. You also went from a stock oil pump to a high volume oil pump. To find the proper o- ring to use, it all depends on the type of oil pickup tube used between straight tube or flared. There should be a "notice" included directing you how to figure out what color o-ring to use . Other things to consider are rod bearings, new oil pickup tube, main bearings, timing chain and of course, always use new gaskets. Make sure to torque all bolts to spec. I will be doing this same thing on my 2006 suburban 6.0 tomorrow. I already removed cv axles, front diff, drive shaft, replaced rod bearings, removed oil pan, baffle/windage plate, Next is main bearings, oil pump, new oil pickup tube and o-ring, water pump, thermostat, plugs, wires, new gaskets throughout. Over all a good video. I appreciate the "rawness" of the video, the honesty of complication, and not making it look "easy" via editing. Whoever does this, just take your time, label things, keep everything clean, watch out for foreign metal shavings and dirt. My suburban has 364,000 miles. An LS motor over 300,000 miles, the high volume oil pump is recommended due to enlarged/ greater clearances ON BEARINGS due to mileage wear and tear. A high volume pump IS NOT recommended for vehicles with LESS than 300,000 miles. The extra volume pressure may cause leaks. Good luck everyone.

    I wish you had done the work on camera, instead of taking everything apart, then showing the disassembled stage. BUT, I have a tip on getting the fluid out of the pan. That little Harbor Freight plastic pump you showed, comes with a skinny little tube (at least the one I bought about 25 years ago at Wal Mart did) that can be slipped right down the dip stick tube (make sure it is CLEAN!!). Put the discharge hose in the empty bottle, and pump nearly all the fluid out of the pan. No mess when you try to drop the pan with fluid in it. I learned the hard way 😁about 45 years ago. WHAT A MESS!! I guess the reason oil change businesses charge so much for a trans flush and fill is due to the exhaust pipe problem. Way to go, GM. If the General don't make it, I don't drive it, but things like this make me shake my head.

    • @ucanduitdude2317
      @ucanduitdude2317 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would agree, but short of cutting the pipe and putting a valve to blow it out, I have to do it the way I showed. So far so good. It's also the way the professionals come an do it for homeowners in the neighborhood. They use low pressure high volume compressors.

    • @tuk2433

      @@ucanduitdude2317Understood, but you have a free and clear vertical pipe downstream of the Backflow that can easily add a ball valve to isolate & sillcock for a compressed air connection. Just saying.

    It's easier to just take the airbox out on the passenger side. The drivers side does not require removal of anything for most bulbs. I suppose some aftermarket LED's with rear mounted fans may require loosening the housing to move them out a little during installation.

  • @realpatriot5896
    @realpatriot5896 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have had to replace the passenger side of tail 3 times and the drivers once. After the passenger side went out a second time I ran an extra ground wire and crimped an eye on the end then bolted it to the air filter housing. Then when I replaced the plug with a pigtail on the drivers side I ran an extra ground wire to the extra battery shelf and bolted it on. Since then the Silverstar Ultra bulbs have lasted longer and I have not had to replace the pigtails. Now thinking about putting the Sylvania LED bulbs in the headlights.
