  • A thorough overview of my new Dyson V10. Blown me away. Absolutely can replace your corded mains powered vacuum, even in normal mode. Having mains-powered cleaning performance only in MAX mode is a total myth-normal mode cleans exceptionally well for normal homely messes.

    I’ve watched quite a few V10 reviews while trying to decide to get one, and this was by far the best review I found. So much information that I was looking for! Thank you!

      Yeah, the only reviews that I'd seen were from those that got a freebie or were from really misleading dodgy channels. In both cases the reviews were cosmetic, biased, or missed all the important things out-the stuff you actually want to know before you buy. So I had to do my own and buy it myself. My channel is now mostly debunking the lies and deception deliberately coming from the rabid vacuum enthusiasts out there that often hate the Dyson brand because they don't use old-fashioned bags. I produced two other update reviews since this one; one at 1 month ( th-cam.com/video/BNPdmYbIxVg/w-d-xo.html ), and one at 6 months ( th-cam.com/video/GvirX8F7avE/w-d-xo.html ). I've also reviewed the superior V11 ( th-cam.com/video/Wk-1d8T0mmY/w-d-xo.html ).

      @@VacuumFacts i have the v-10, and i had the first cordless they made and it had a few flaws but it was still better than any upright ever, not to mention any stick vacuum. I will look-see how the v-11 differs from the v-10. I do love my v-10, it makes me happy to vaccuum!

    I have this exact same machine and I’m very impressed with its performance. Have not needed MAX mode at all. Whilst the fluffy head is also available on other machines, I adore it. It’s great getting up Jack Russell fur and the kitchen floor has never looked cleaner. I’ve just bought an attachment so I can use my Dyson Cinetic Big Ball (Upright) tools with it.

    Thanks Johnny I just bought my first Dyson vacuum and comparing V10 vs V11 definitely had to go for the V10 Total cyclone with the smallest dust canister because my purpose cleaning is my car and one small room very small , removing dust from a couple of high shelves and that's all, and I couldn't be happier,now with your helpful videos I know how to use the accessories and how properly clean the vacuum, soon I will buy the air purifier, thanks again for all your help .

    I know this review is 2+ years old but I just want to say you've eased all the worries I had after watching other reviews that slated the V10.
    My daughter has just bought this for me for Mother's day and I was really worried that she had been ripped off. I've really struggled to find anything positive said about it. The negative reviews seem to be mostly American (sorry America), they really don't like it do they.
    I've used cordless vacuums for quite a few years, currently using the V7 and it's always been a fantastic machine. It's still going strong after years of abuse, we've got 8 cats so you can imagine the amount of fur. I'm always hoovering and it works as well now as when I first got it.
    I've also watched your 6 month review and I'm glad to see you say mostly positive things about it. Thanks again for the great review.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Objectively, I found very little negative to say about it. There are only a few minor niggles with it. All other cordless machines to this day still can't replace a mains, but this and its successors can. I've reviewed other cordless machines and shown how and why they fail. If you'r ereading negative reviews of this machine adn they're not supported objectively with evidence, then I'd recommend you disregard those sources for further information and never look back.

      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha no, I have no formal training. I just do what makes sense to me. There are many stages to me producing this. First is planning the idea; so listing all the points I want to make, identifying the right order to make them into a sensible narrative. That takes longest (usually days). Then it's scripting, producing all the graphics and visual aids, filming. Then I have to record the narrative. Once I've got all the material, I have to edit it all together, which takes second longest. Then I can do final render and upload. It can be a week's work for a video.

    Another thing I've noticed with a Dyson and owning pets: The oils in their fur, get into those microscopic dust particles, and smell big time. The literal only bummer of cyclone vac, but still.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a lot of myths about smells which I've covered in a video here (th-cam.com/video/SCcVBgFZ7Dc/w-d-xo.html ). Emptying the bin frequently and rinsing the filters as advised in the manual should minimise odours. But if smelly material is always picked up, there's no way to avoid some degree of odour by definition in any vacuum technology. Bags are worse because they don't get emptied as frequently and the stink festers; often worked around using strong perfumes (video explaining here: th-cam.com/video/ptN0kkOtGSM/w-d-xo.html ).

    • @mamaboocee
      @mamaboocee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use baking soda to neutralize the oil AND the smell. Just sprinkle it and vacuum! Not necessary to use a great deal, either. And just clean the filters frequently, its VERY easy to do!

      Battery technology BTW will change enormously (in all devices) in a few years. Already in the lab, there are graphene-based prototypes with 10x the capacity of the best Li-ion batteries, and they can fully charge in seconds (few more years yet before commercialisation). So in about 2-4 generations of Dyson's cordless cleaners, they'll possibly be able to run for an hour on max and take a few seconds to charge once you put it back on the charger. Because they've got ultra power-dense, feather-light motors nailed already (unlike any competitors), they can clearly see a future without the cord. And their motors will only get more powerful and refined too. They will dominate the market and essentially make it their own for a long time. They've got a critical head start. But only as long as they can convince enough people that corded is unnecessary and bust the myths that cordless isn't as powerful (at least their cordless machines), they will achieve a complete vacuum revolution. And it started principally with the V10 as the first fully-fledged corded vacuum replacement. If they do reach this critical mass, you'll find competitors really start to jump on the bandwagon, but they'll struggle because to achieve what Dyson have with this machine takes a lot of research and highly technical skill that isn't easily achieved or even copied. Competitors will be big, heavy, and bulky in comparison (cough...shark cordless...cough), or not very powerful (cough...every other cordless...cough), relying on marketing spin and deception to get market share. Before then, I predict competitors will do all they can to smear the Dyson cordless cleaners, peddling the myths (via the shark-like infomercial absurd demos) that they're not as powerful and that "power" is all that counts, implying it directly relates to performance (which Dyson have shown it doesn't-I know, I'm holding the V10 now). Watching this market dynamic and form-factor race will be interesting...except possibly to some 'vacuum enthusiasts' who will still be in their caves and mesmerised by big numbers, whatever they actually mean.

      For pet and human hair (lots of girls with long hair running around my house pretty often) you could try the tangle-free head ($40 on Amazon). It says it doesn't fit the cordless vacs, but it does. Fits the V6 and versions such as the DC59. If you have the V7, V8, or V10, there is an adapter so you can use older tools with the newer vacuum (about $10 on AMZ). It has great reviews for good reason. =)

      Yeah, my man, lemme tell you about my part corgi. If you've never been in a house with a ultra-plush, wolf-like fur dog like that.....you have no idea. You almost cant exaggerate. If I go a week, there are actual, literal piles in every single corner of the house and I have to empty my older Dyson stick vacuum, well above the max line before I even notice, 5-6 times in a 900 sqft house. Its......well it's insane.

    Nice review. I own the v8 animal. After about 14 months use the trigger guard beneath the red on/off button cracked where it joined the body of the machine. I see the design is still the same. Dyson sent me a replacement handle/motor section. I guess it’s similar to bending a coat hanger back and forth in that when you move the Dyson around your hand is pushing against this grey tab, obviously a stress area. Admittedly I use my 2 or 3 times a day with my 2 long haired German shepherd dogs and 2 whisk as cats. Just make sure you all check your handles if you’ve had a unit for a while. Love my v8 .

  • @utooboobnoob
    @utooboobnoob 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Weird question: Will the V10 power on in the the charger? I'm trying to figure out a hack to adding more run time.
    I'm another person who is bothered by the 6 minute Max runtime and the 3.5 hour recharge time.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I suspect this is because plugging it in while using it would undermine the whole point of it being cordless. Seriously, you don't need to use max mode to get deep cleaning. I'm about to show this in a new video and I'll cover it more in the 1 month update review. You get amazing results in mode 1 or 2 (20 mins minimum) because of the quality of the engineering to reduce dirt concentrations to a minimum with very little air flow and power. All brute forcing on max does is clean large spot messes faster; it doesn't produce better cleaning results-something most have yet to appreciate and I hope my new video will help. So focusing on the 6 minute and 3.5 hour ceiling is leading yourself down a dead end. 20 minutes of on-time is way more than you need with clever use of the trigger and there are lots of videos showing people deep clean an entire house with a single charge. Bit-sized cleaning is much better practice nowadays with this technology anyway rather than a tiring mega weekly clean.

    • @utooboobnoob
      @utooboobnoob 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. I appreciate the lightning fast, very considered reply and suggestions. I might consider doing smaller cleanings more frequently, but that's a pretty big ask.
      Earlier today I had a chat online with a Dyson rep. He, too, tried to assuage my run time concerns. He was very strident that I change my habits & preferences. I would like to vacuum on high most of the times. Why? Because that's what I like. It seems designing the vac to use swappable batteries would be easier than trying to change people's behavior.

    • @utooboobnoob
      @utooboobnoob 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had been thinking of velcro-ing a big usb battery to it for extended life. That'd be cordless enough in my book. But if it wont run while charging... it's a moot point.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, Dyson's biggest challenge is getting people to change behaviour. A few simple and easy changes can improve everything hugely. I'm quick at making even big changes if I can see clear benefits, and I wouldn't look back now. This product is a new kind of product and there's nothing like it on the market (beyond skin deep looks). Just as the car came to market to replace the horse and cart, and people had to change their behaviour and LEARN to drive a complex vehicle, and be tested, and taxed, and have to maintain it etc., it's a small price to pay to be rid of horses and carts. No one is looking back

  • @gratituderanch9406
    @gratituderanch9406 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent.
    I have the Dyson motorhead cordless, and the canister is too small and often clogs, so I have to remove the entire bin to get the fluff out. Also doesn’t pick up larger hit (I have 3 kids and a husband so your comment on “you’ll never get a mess like this” is funny for me). That said I still Love even the motorhead but wanting to upgrade to this just because the updates to emptying the bin and new head.
    Great review. Really superb.
    Have you used the Motorhead to compare pickup? It’s an older model so I’m just curious.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha, kids and big messes. No I've not used any previous cordless Dyson since the DC35 (their very first model). The new V10 is more amazing than I expected. I've done a 1-month update review too now th-cam.com/video/BNPdmYbIxVg/w-d-xo.html

  • @bscott77
    @bscott77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Does this have a swappable battery? If not it’s a huge fail if they plan to replace uprights as they say. The quoted run times are misleading as they relate to the unit being used on low power with a non motorised head attached. As soon as you up the power and attach a motorised head then it drops by up to 75%. I own a dc35 and a v6 cordless as well as a ball upright and due to runtime there is no way you could practically replace the corded unit due to runtime and recharge time

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It doesn’t come with one but it’s possible one could be bought and installed. But it’s not necessary with smart use of the cleaner and a change to the way you vacuum. Instead of doing a single tiring mega clean, split it over multiple days and do shorter, easier cleans. I've never had any issues with battery life and cleaning on mode 2 (which gives 20 mins) is way more than needed. This usage also makes recharge time a non-issue. The run times quoted are accurate for the situation also quoted so there isn't really anything misleading if all the marketing info is looked at. I've fully replaced my mains vacuum with this and I've experienced none of those issues. Additionally, battery technology of the future will have much larger capacity and shorter recharge times, making even old-style vacuuming practice possible for those who can't adjust.

    • @labtested1
      @labtested1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VacuumFacts You're right - but I think, it's also good to know that you can buy a new battery and replace it by yourself easily, if it might break or the performance is getting too low after some years (I'm hoping, the V10 will live a long long time, like my DC32). You can get a brand new battery for around $60. I really like that - other manufacturers make you send the stuff in and usually want so much money for replacing parts that it makes more sense to buy a new vacuum.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The V10 battery, as discussed in other videos on my channel, is expected to retain 80% of original maximum charge aftert 15 years; considerably better than the competition. There shouldn't really be a need to replace it in general.

    Ever had a wheeled Dyson DC07/14/33? I'm curious as to what the suction is like vs one of those cos apparently this has 290AW on max but Dyson told me that it has 151 AW on max

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did have a wheeled one at some point. As I'll have to address in the future video, given how this keeps cropping up, suction power alone isn't important; it's how it's used which matters in determining the resultant cleaning performance, as measured by international industry standard testing. Air watts alone are a complete red herring.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's analogous, in fact, with motor power. People often associated big numbers and more powerful motors with cleaning performance. Many later realised it was nonsense and that how much of that motor power translated into air power was more relevant. But even this on its own isn't important, because motor air watts (or even resultant air watts) can be used inefficiently, and for a fixed air wattage, you can get a wide range of cleaning results depending on all kinds of other factors. There's a lot of misunderstanding on YT that needs clearing up.

    • @parwaz7861
      @parwaz7861 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JohnnyL8 I see where you’re coming from but I still feel like a higher air wattage is still a benefit. The motor airwatts, the more the carpet clings to the head and it’ll get a better beating off the brushroll and this getting cleaned better
      Airflow also is important and is the number one factor that’s important for cleaning carpets along with agitation

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's hard to believe, but it is genuinely a myth. Airflow (i.e. air current) and agitation are also myths (or at least misunderstood) as discussed in my agitation video. To be fair, even I wouldn't have believed the 30-40 aw in mode 2 would perform similarly to the Dyson Light ball (as measured by the residual left after post-clean as shown in the video) until I saw it. But it's right there. A perfectly reasonable, fair test that shows that the Light ball finds no more residual dirt than the V10 under normal conditions after an initial clean using the V10 in the default mode 2. The V10 has optimised utilisation of the available air watts to extreme levels via the design of the cleaner head and everything else it does in terms of agitation and air speed (more important than air current).

    Hi Johnny. I had a look yesterday at the V10 and was very impressed. (With durability concerns, as I’ve mentioned, an extended warranty of full replacement of the unit would for me suffice.) My only concern is the general purpose cleaner head with its brush bar feature - which, with the release here in Australia, cannot be adjusted. My carpet is textured loop pile - sisal. Recommendations from leading carpet manufacturers such as Godfrey Hirst recommend that loop pile carpets be vacuumed with a suction only head. Do you have any thoughts there with the Dyson head? Thanks in advance. Dave, Australia.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm aware of no reason why the V10 heads would be more harmful to a carpet than any other vacuum. Personally, I'd never buy a carpet which wasn't durable enough to be vacuumed properly. If you clean it with straight suction only now and are concerned, maybe stick with that. Otherwise buy what you want, taking advantage of any money back guarantee refunds.

    • @Meshwork123
      @Meshwork123 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JohnnyL8 I agree. I would never buy such a carpet, either. (My wool carpet was very expensive as was the underlay, and has served me well for years.) Since my message to you, I have conducted further research into loop pile carpets and most definitely any form of power-driven brush bar head should be used only sparingly or not at all on these types of carpets, especially with wool loop pile carpets. I also phoned two leading carpet manufacturers today and they advised the same. This is in stark contrast to Dyson Australia, who today advised that the supplied main head with the V10 was okay to use with my type of carpet - even though the customer service officer didn’t understand what loop pile was.
      Your video on dirt left in carpet is informative, except that it seems to centre almost exclusively on cut pile, which is suitable for the Dyson powered head supplied with the V10 but not for loop pile carpets.
      I guess Dyson is trying to appeal to a mass market, but clearly, their standard V10 head, which is powered, is not suitable for loop pile carpets - not unless owners of loop pile carpets don’t mind having them worn down more than they should be.
      Sincerely

      JohnnyL8 In the instruction manual that came with my Dyson V7, and my V7 has a powered brush bar head like the V10’s, it states: “The brush bar on the appliance can damage certain carpet types and floors. Some carpets will fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used when vacuuming. If this happens, we recommend vacuuming without the motorised floor tool and consulting with your flooring manufacturer.”
      With the popularity of sisal loop pile carpets in Australia, coupled with the fact that the Dyson V series stick vacs do not come with a suction only head - nor can one be separately purchased - it would have to be concluded that the Dyson V series of vacuum cleaners have limited application where loop pile carpets are concerned; and Dyson themselves mention this in their manuals. Unfortunately, sales people do not disclose this fact, or, they are unaware of the potential of power brush heads to damage certain types of carpet flooring, including that of Dyson’s V series general purpose power brush head. Anyhow, I thought that you might be interested in this irrefutable evidence. Cheers. Dave, Australia.

      I think that’s a fair observation. The Dyson cordless vacuums don’t have a dedicated unmotorized floor tool, and as such, apparently aren't well-suited for such hyper-vulnerable carpet types. The million-dollar question though is where is the data showing the relative fraction of homes that have such vulnerable carpet and thus are explicitly affected? Evidence; not suspicion, just to be clear. The total lack of hoo-ha about it suggests it's a negligible fraction.
      I’d also add that with today’s technology, it's easy to avoid purchasing a carpet that’s vulnerable to the most basic floor care that so many carpets can easily cope with. Purchasing such carpets is potentially an unwise choice, and such cleaning considerations and associated restrictions should be made by people prior to purchase rather than retrospectively blaming any carpet care manufacturers. This apparent shortcoming of Dyson cordless presumably also applies equally to other affected manufacturers of competing products. Do you know which other manufacturers are also affected and what are your thoughts on that? What do their customer service representatives say for contrast in the interest of fairness and balance?

    • @Meshwork123
      @Meshwork123 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JohnnyL8 Feltex and Godfrey Hirst, two leading carpet manufacturers, give expert advice on their websites on carpet care for the three main different types of carpets, ie loop pile, cut pile and the combination of both. This advice includes cautioning about loop pile and the combination style - with rotating brush bar heads where the bristles potentially cause fizzying of fibers (at the loop of the carpet) ultimately causing excessive wear of the carpet.
      Owners (in the know) of loop pile carpets and the like aren’t going to change their carpets for the sake of a vacuum cleaner brand.
      Miele make vacs with various head types for specific types of carpets. Dyson, with their development now going exclusively into stick vacs, do not offer, as you know, straight suction heads. The above posts, all the same, are about Dyson’s V series and not about Miele or other brands.
      Dyson should disclose in their advertising with their V series of vacs that the V series is not currently suitable for loop pile styles of carpets - instead of the user discovering this fact afterwards, as I did and you now have with the precautions that Dyson only give in their instruction manuals.
      Sales staff should first ask prospective buyers of vacs what kind of carpet they have.
      I’m hoping that you might consider doing a video on the above matter to help protect the consumer.
      All the best. Dave, Australia

    I just got the V10 and I feel it’s a very good machine. Only question is after one use I’m seeing a lot of fine dust on the rubber strip behind the cleaner head and on the swivel ball. Just wondering if that’s normal as I thought it was a sealed system.

    • @VacuumFacts

      Not sure where you mean but it's probably not a problem and normal. A sealed system means the seals keep air in specific regions such that HEPA means genuinely HEPA filtered air expelled rather than a HEPA filter just stuffed at the back lazily and all the air can bypass it.

      JohnnyL8 no that isnt true. There are quite a few vacuums that can handle all the flour in the world. And they aren’t much more expensive than the v10. The issue is that the issues of the v10 aren’t spoken of, and bogus rebuttals are put forward by those who are essentially fan boys of the brand, which is ridiculous.

    • @VacuumFacts

      There is actually evidence of Dyson Cinetic technology handling plaster dust without any problems. I'm not sure what the particle size distribution of flour, ash, and other 'forbidden' dusts are, but the V10 at least is designed specifically for normal household dust down to 300 nm (HEPA grade). This includes small amounts of flour and I'm sure the other dusts too. It's hard to find formal test data showing what happens when such a vacuum sucks up that stuff. My V10 handled flour with ease in my demos and the filters aren't clogged at all. The cyclonic technology really works.

      I can understand someone who cleans professionally having a problem with that. I wouldn't want to clean an office building or drive around 3-4 houses to clean in a day and deal with the battery life here. But it's great for a personal in home vacuum, which is what it's designed to be. Even if my GF and I pull a long cleaning day we could use this until the battery is dead, charge it while doing other stuff, then use it to dead again. Our house is not so big that we'd likely even need to think about that.

    I found a way to use the power head attached to the machine, but can still get up to a hour of run time using suction level 1. The machine has to be running. Then you detached the pole/cleaner head from the machine but you DON'T release the power trigger. So the machine should still be running while the tool is detached. Then you connect the cleaner head (if ur using it seperately) or the pole to the machine while the machine is running and the power head wont be rotating, but it will be connected - allowing you to use it on hard floors with just suction like an upright. Perfect for those that dont have a fluffy, but want the machine to run without scratching the floors

      Unfortunately, there's a 'vacuum enthusiast' community out there. Many people in it have turned out to be pretty nasty. I came along recently and challenged a common but broken world-view with something called FACTS, because much of what that community spouted was built on misleading or outright false nonsense that deceived and did a disservice to many viewers. Some people don't like anything that would suggest they're wrong, even positively presented factual truth or empirical evidence like this. Lacking any kind of defense or credible counter-argument, some of the more hypersensitive were left with the age old hallmark behaviour of taking 'offense' and promoting smear tactics. Voting down, bad-mouthing, claiming I talk rubbish without actually explaining in any detail why, and some even blocking me from commenting on their channel even though I never had previously. Some even got aggressive, made threats, or claimed I must be autistic because their opinion was different to what I presented. Really toxic, nasty acts of bullying from that community, all because of my helpful or educational efforts here. Feel free to go read through the comments and see the hostile bile. Of course it actually spurred me to produce even more content on this channel.

Worrying/nay-saying about battery life on this beast-machine for most homes, with optimal use, is vacuum hypochondria/propaganda. And my hand isn't even tired, and I'm hardly the hulk.

    The problem still is the battery the runtime the suction Dyson have not told everybody the truth they are not using the best batteries they're using lithium ion 18650 3.7 volt 2600 milliamp amp hour batteries only. LG and Panasonic and Samsung makes much better batteries which a 3400 or 3500 milliamp hours. Which would have far longer run times with higher capacity. I can't help but feel short changed by Dyson not giving us the best capacitors in batterys which have been around for years.... I have tried asking Dyson why they are using inferior capacity batteries but they do not want to talk about this....

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless of cosmetic numbers, what you get in real-world use (i.e. all that's important) is 30 minutes of run-time on mode 2 with a motorised head attached, which cleans real-world typical household messes just as well as a corded mains cleaner (see video). Larger batteries add weight, cost, materials waste, recharge time, and are unnecessary for the reasons discussed in the video and my comments here. That 30 minutes is more than enough, and this cleaner brings with it a new style of cleaning that's more bite sized, easier, and convenient than the old ways of the past. I've completely replaced my mains machine now and it's more liberating than I'd expected.

      May make the unit even more cost prohibitive. $700 intro price is pretty exorbitant for a vacuum. I think changeable batteries would be best for most consumers. Those who can't afford or don't need the additional capacity won't need to pay extra for the extra runtime.

    I love the cordless cleaners but don’t feel they deep clean as they have no agitation. Love my V6

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      :) Interestingly, I still love my DC35, but it's a bit irrelevant as a device now much as the candle is to the LED light bulb. The concept of "deep clean" is misleading and is something I'll address in future videos. The region of a carpet that's important to clean is the region where accumulated dirt can escape into the air and affect health (namely near the surface). Dirt underneath it or at the base of the pile (at least for dense long pile carpets) is never encountered. The value and also myths of agitation is something I've covered in detail in another video. From the real-world tests representative of normal household conditions I've done, I've confirmed that the V10 (in normal mode 2), and a high performing mains cleaner, both extract comparable residual amounts of dirt from a 'clean' carpet and thus are performance-indistinguishable under real-world conditions. As such, it can confidently be claimed as a suitable mains replacement and brings a huge host of additional benefits. The V10 is the start of what I predict will be a vacuum revolution in the next 10 years. Apparently Dyson think so too, choking off financially lucrative product lines. And who said they were all about money; profit-first businesses don't cull cash-cows; 'a-better-way' companies do.

    • @hoovermaster
      @hoovermaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +JohnnyL8 it annoys me when people criticise the cordless cleaners on bin size. I'm not the biggest Dyson fan but come on, they are smaller lightweight vacuums. Dyson have cleverly solved this and I think my rift with James is healing after machines like the lightball.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's great about the V10, that they clearly put a lot of thought into, is they tried to solve criticisms from both ends of the spectrum. They made the bin larger, and they made it as large as they possibly could without it being too bulky. The balance is just right. On top of that, they made it super easy and clean to empty. 3 seconds. Whack it down, slap it back up. Done. Just no real bin maintenance needed. It's just not even a chore to empty now. They put in so much effort to make it as nice as possible for people. It just screams quality and thought.

Like it stands I don't see myself spending 670€ and not be sure that it will work for more than 2 years because every product can have a defect and what Moore has taught us is that he is praying on us :D

      It's a fair point. Warranties instil confidence in the user, and a relatively reduced warranty length in a product intended as replacement isn't so attractive. I take comfort knowing that my DC35 is still going strong after 6 years, and that was an early model in their cordless fledgling days.

I have a cordless that lasts 1 hr (say 50 minutes) with hard floor button, and I can vacuum 3 bedrooms, and 2 bath rooms without turbo because my dogs are not allowed in those rooms. But Living/dining room, entrance hall etc. I need to use turbo so 25 minutes is not enough. Don't they have a corded one with the same system? I really like the vacuum head.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of people don't enjoy vacuuming for long periods of time during a massive weekly chore. Many are realising that it's much smarter to vacuum the odd room or two a day or so in a bite-sized fashion. No other cordless cleaner is marketed as a replacement for a mains machine and that's because they perform very poorly in comparison in low power, and need high power modes to even begin to perform decently, killing battery time worse than the V10. I've shown that deep cleaning is achieved just as well even in the lowest power mode on the V10 (see my other videos) and you get 30 minutes. Combined with the uniquely smart trigger which encourages the machine to turn off when you don't need it on (e.g. moving around), means you save even more battery and get maybe 30% more time on top of that. So much of what makes the V10 really great isn't obvious at first because it's not marketed.

    Apparently dyson doesn't trust the v10 to last 10 years or even 5 years when giving it only a 2 years warranty. Maybe if they didn't pull an apple with the non replaceable battery it could be a little it more serious. Support of older product has not been dyson strong point in the past so let's hope they improved.
    Btw the technology used by dyson to have the battery run strong to the end that needed research and lots of marketing is simply the normal behaviour of lithium battery and nothing else. It's comical to see the chart showing how they keep power over time when it's simply ow lithium battery works. They are mostly a marketing machine.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting point worth discussion actually. It's not clear why they don't give a 5 year warranty on this product. I mentioned this in the video. However, I also mentioned that my previous cordless, having been treated well, is still in 'as new' condition 6 years later.
      I'm not aware that Dyson's support for older products is any less good than any other company; I've not seen any evidence of that. Once they stop selling a product, they tend to stop supporting it after the guarantee period has expired following that date--which makes sense.
      RE: the battery: I think you'd need to show us some evidence that shows that voltage doesn't drop during normal use of a lithium ion battery. I'm fairly sure many could easily disprove that by measuring voltage as a function of charge held. You'll find it drops as it runs out of stored charge. That is, in fact, the normal behaviour. Go and try it. It's not marketing. This is the problem with much of the world; people don't check things they believe in to determine what's actually true.

    • @sylvainpaquette6132
      @sylvainpaquette6132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JohnnyL8 a lithium ion cell is considered charged at 4.2 volts and empty at 3.2 volts. If you allow the battery lower than that it will be permanently damaged so the circuit need to be turned off. It's a standard. The type of motor used in power tools or vacuum cleaner don't vary speed when voltage go down since they are driven from a small drive (like a ac drive). It's like your cell phone or your laptop when battery for go down. It doesn't compute slower or dim the LCD except if you choose to in power management. Power tools did the same switch when lithium and brushless motor where introduced. Funny thing all this was used on radio controlled car long before it came to power tools and vacuum cleaner.
      Take some time to read about lithium battery behaviour and why they keep strong to the end compared to nicad and nimh. It's a big advantage with energy storage density.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I'm not sure you really understand what you're talking about. Please cite those claims and battery numbers. Laptops etc. don't compute slower when the voltage drops because their performance is independent of voltage above a threshold value. My lithium ion power tools go slower when the battery runs down a bit below a particular value of charge, and keep getting slower until they don't work. This is exactly what Dyson's use of the battery avoids. When the voltage drops sufficiently that you would start to see the same speed reduction, they jack up current to compensate and ensure the power output is constant. Then when the energy is depleted, it stops dead suddenly.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Furthermore, whilst 'lithium ion' on the cosmetic label, there are actually a wide range of different chemistries used in Li Ion tech.

    • @sylvainpaquette6132
      @sylvainpaquette6132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JohnnyL8 the you are referencing to old brushed dc motors used with lithium battery combined with very bad protection for the battery. This motor speed is not voltage dependant but pwm dependant. Ave did dissemble one and test it btw. Dyson themself call the motors "digital" and, while it's them playing with words and more of a marketing term, it should give you an idea that this motor will need some form of drive in order to be controled. The same way your screen brightness on your phone doesn't go down when you are at 30% battery because it lack voltage. These day pretty much everything is regulated or converted from dc to dc. A simple search for lithium battery advantages on google should fix the rest of your questioning regarding lithium cell maintaining their power output over discharge. This is a big design advantage when using lithium polymer cells. I get that electronic is not your forte but you should understand that some works in this field and for them "digital motor" and other marketing buzzword from dyson, describing something that is common on simple power tool, is comical at best. I even recently got a 50$ compact drill with a brushless motor and lithium pack that behave like this. Even super cheap devices are getting this "technology".

    I agree, the V10 does a great job on low/middle setting with the fluffy roll or carpet roll attached... and the battery lasts long enough to clean a house that is cleaned regularly. And it actually needs less than 3.5hrs to charge fully. It's very nice for vacuuming the stairs and small spaces. I often use it for spot cleaning. The motorized rolls remove dog hair nicely - actually better than the turbo rolls of my old DC32. However, the cleaning performance without the motorized rolls is not THAT great, I think. For example, using the 'long nose' tool for getting dog hair out of corners or between cables or picking up little stones or stuff like that. It's fine on max power, though... but well, battery drains quite quickly. I don't know - maybe the V10's power is equal to the newer Dyson models after the EU restrictions were introduced (haven't tried any of those but I've heard their performance is very disappointing if you owned an old Dyson before)... but for tasks like that, nothing beats the pure sucking power of the old DC32. It even sucks up a size 14 sock without blinking. ;)
    If you already have an older, large Dyson it is a good idea to pick up a converter/adapter for the different attachments. It's just like $8 and you can use all the attachments of the large Dyson with the V10 (I'm pretty sure the air driven turbo brushes don't work. though). I actually like the duster attachment of the DC32 better because it is larger. The round brush tool with the 'little mouth' of the DC32 is also better than the combination tool of the V10. The brushes are slightly too soft on the combination tool of the V10 for my taste.
    If you have a smaller apartment the V10 might replace a large vacuum quite easily. If you have a house and maybe more than one dog, you have to empty out the bin thingy quite a lot... very quick and easy, though. Emptying is less messy than with the DC32... the new mechanism is quite genius. Still, if you have a bigger mess, if you're doing some renovations or if you let dog hair and stuff build up a little before cleaning, you might want to go with an old DC32 or a similar model (get a used one.. you can basically replace all parts yourself easily, even the engine - and the parts aren't expensive.). So it might not replace a large vacuum for me completely... but I mostly use the V10 and only get the DC32 out every 2-3 weeks.
    If you want a different perspective: my dog likes the V10 much better than the DC32. Less noisy and less intimidating than the blue monster with the big grey snake. ;)

      The performance of uprights subjected to the EU energy caps (e.g. the UK Light Ball) is VASTLY superior to their pre-energy cap counterparts and better than any other upright. I am impressed that you did such an in depth review. I have owned every high end vacuum made, or at least most of them. Rainbow, 3 Dysons, 2 Mieles, Kenmore, Filter Queen, Electrolux. Sebo, Sanitaire and Kirby. I was disappointed with the Dysons. On the canister the door that flips open to empty it broke immediately. The hinge that it opened using was made of cheap plastic. I would think that an engineer would realize that the canister will be opened constantly and use something that would hold up. After all of the different ones I have owned I have to say that the Kirby is the best, hands down. It's suction far surpasses Dyson. If it looses suction that Dyson so famously claims that suction loss is what drove him to invent a vacuum cleaner that doesn't loose suction. If the Kirby looses suction I simply put a new bag in and it is back to 100% with suction that Dyson could only dream of having. Second on my list is Miele and after that Filter Queen. I think Dyson is over hyped and certainly over priced.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This assumes that you don't get mains-level cleaning performance on lower modes. You actually do. A lot of people assume that you need more cleaning power to achieve better cleaning performance. This is false, and you just need to optimally utilise what’s available. It's not intuitive or obvious why, in fairness, and the answer lies in the confusing subject of statistics and the fluid dynamics of carpet systems. I’ve done a couple of videos on these topics explaining why in detail in lay terms.
      1. th-cam.com/video/2pCKicHRFfc/w-d-xo.html
      2. th-cam.com/video/4RNi3QrGCXI/w-d-xo.html
      In short, because most fresh dirt stays near the surface of a dense, fibrous carpet, regular cleaning associated with basic carpet care and responsible housekeeping, manages to keep concentrations down to a minimum in default mode 2 (which gives at least 20 minutes of run time). The few particles that manage to get deeper are actually eventually removed, even in mode 2 with less ‘power’, again because of statistical processes. Max mode and its associated increased power doesn’t clean better long term, it just cleans substantial spot messes faster (rare and hence why you only get a maximum of 6-7 minutes). Deep and good cleaning is more than a brute-force game and requires more subtle engineering at the head where all the action happens, which the V10 achieves surprisingly well. I’ve tested this twice now (here at 27:01 and here th-cam.com/video/BNPdmYbIxVg/w-d-xo.html ) by looking at the residuals left between the V10 and a mains cleaner that has been formally measured to provide the best holistic cleaning performance across all floor types, and they’re identical. The V10 has genuinely revolutionised the way I clean the carpet unlike other cordless models before it, much as they say in the ads, and I was not expecting that.

      Additionally, the pick-up-and-play form-factor now allows more flexible cleaning. Rather than a single, tiring, weekly mega-clean, you can bite-size clean parts of a house in any one session, such as a single room or floor. This more flexible workflow also ensures battery life is a non-issue. I've never once ran out of battery and in fact only ever use a fraction of a full charge in any one session. Bite-sized is easier and much more user friendly, and is now how I clean. It's been a complete liberation and revolution in terms the vacuuming chore.

      Whether or not a person can afford an upgrade, or whether someone subjectively feels it's 'worth it', has no bearing on whether there have been improvements to performance and usability. My review outlined what those differences were. The difference is larger for the UK version; the UK V10 didn't get the newer style head. Performance, usability, and practicality has all been non-trivially improved. If money alone is a primary factor, and someone doesn't have enough of it to indulge, then a case could be made that any adjacent version upgrade (of ANY costly product) might be harder to justify. Otherwise, the benefits are very much worth it and appreciably improve over the V10.

      @@VacuumFacts What I meant to say was, the closer a battery is charged to 100 percent of its capacity the more harmful this is to the battery's innards. After that, the charger continues topping up again and again. By that, even without using the device, most batteries are toast after a couple of years. But I'm sure Samsung and Panasonic struck a deal exclusively with Dyson to keep the revolutionary 15-year-lasting battery composition secret because there is no money in it anyway. Nobody would buy that.

    I think this thread will contain all the unrepresentative tests I come across in the next few days, which intentionally or otherwise falsely smear this stunning product, which in case it needs saying, is designed for normal dirt levels in normal homes and not absurd unintended situations

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right on cue, the flour under the carpet 'tests' are starting to scuttle out. Well-intentioned, perhaps, but ultimately ignorance or propaganda; one of the two. Suggesting a vacuum is better if it can suck flour from under a carpet (where no one would ever interact with it). Fantastically misleading. At first glance, it sounds like a no-brainer test, but looking closer and thinking harder, it's clear it's an absurd test. The region of a carpet that's important to clean is the region where accumulated dirt can escape into the air and affect health (namely near the surface). Dirt underneath it or at the base of the pile (at least for dense long pile carpets) is never encountered. It's thus not representative of normal household use and ignores all the other factors that go into cleaning the relevant carpet region, and thus peddles misleading conclusions. Ironically, with overly high air flow, the dirt, which was safely under the carpet and would never thus interact with people, is now dragged up through the carpet, always leaving residual material in the fibres at microscopic scales. And how would such huge amounts of dirt ever get so deep in the carpet; it just doesn't ever happen in normal living. Totally unrepresentative and misleading. • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Showing any vacuum fails under conditions not representative of normal household situations is not evidence the vacuum is poor. Huge concentrations of particles so large you can easily pick them up by hand are completely un-encountered in the home under responsible use, are not what vacuums are intended to deal with. Faulty logic to suggest it should cope with absurd, unrealistic situations, and for the reason that in being able to, there are potential trade-offs which could affect real-world performance, which is far more relevant. You can't help but admire the torque drive cleaner head being used in plus mode to pick up large particles. xD 'My expensive vacuum is bad because it can't vacuum 50 large lego pieces which I couldn't be bothered to put back into the box' th-cam.com/video/wNrxc2kmcoE/w-d-xo.html

    • @2711marcus
      @2711marcus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree the harmful dust settles near the top of the pile and is easier to remove but the larger particles can damage the fibres and cause premature wear of carpet so it is better to remove these larger particles too.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's actually a myth (unless you can cite some formal evidence to clearly demonstrate-and not some toy youtube user test done in a barn; I mean formal evidence that shows and quantifies it, like a peer-reviewed scientific study). It was invented, much like fallacious big mess tests, to peddle some nonsense and try to make vacuum X look better-the kind of junk you'd find in an infomercial. There's certainly no test or acknowledgement in the industry standard that this is relevant. Carpet wear is an upper-layer phenomenon. There's a video on this myth on my list (to produce).

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Furthermore, as discussed in a previous video, because of the increasing pile density, you just don't get larger particles down there in high concentrations for dense deep pile carpets. They get stuck in the upper layers under normal home living. So these stupid sand tests which artificially exaggerate the concentration and purposefully stuff loads deep down where they'd never naturally reach are totally unrepresentative and completely misleading. So in summary, it doesn't naturally get that deep under normal responsible living and carpet care, it doesn't cause wear, and it's not as harmful to health as dust anyway.

    Dyson has awesome vacuums but the battery sucks as in every cordless vacuum. V8, V10, V11 are great for quick cleaning jobs. For deeper cleaning, we cannot ditch the cord yet. It's the reality with the available battery technology today.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any chance you can present the evidence you've used to come to that conclusion? Or is it really a subjective, personal opinion masquerading as a factual claim? I've seen it plenty of times before. The reality is, the V10 and V11 cordless cleaners (and none other to date) can deep clean even larger houses with battery life to spare. This has been shown time and again from all sort of sources-including on YT. Furthermore, the formfactor and technology uniquely allows and promotes cleaning in a smarter, bite-sized way. No one wants to do a weekly chore, tiring, mega clean. People who subscribe to that old-fashioned thinking and method of cleaning could easily be fooled by battery life myths. It's far easier and more practical to break cleaning up into shorter sessions; a room, or floor at a time, with heavier traffic areas cleaned more regularly. My V11 review highlighted this. Unlike any other cordless on the market to date, The V10/11 cleaning performance is comparable to a mains cleaner, and in some cases, exceeds it, especially for deep-cleaning, as shown in my Kirby Vs V11 video series. Your comment is simply at total odds with reality and was not supported by any convincing evidence.

      @@VacuumFacts you are probably right. My comment was more towards V8 and older models . I also compare to the unlimited suction power in my 10 year old corded Kenmore to battery -powered vacuums and I see limitations when it comes to large areas, blinds, autos, etc.

      Oh ok. Yes, anything pre-V10 is pretty much equivalent to the rest of the current market in terms of battery. I'm predicting the Dyson V12 will in fact make another major leap and introduce a new class of battery technology which will dramatically improve things even further. Time will tell.

      I think it's probably perfectly suited for people with dogs. The hair and dander will be sucked into the bin as with anything else, assisted by the great pet hair tools-like motorised brush heads--and can be emptied quickly and easily to prevent odour buildup, unlike with bagged cleaners. Definitely expensive though; but you get what you pay for in this case, unlike with similarly priced copy-cat clones that often don't work as well because they can't tread on the patents.

      Not sure I feel that way. They apparently philosophise "lean engineering"-essentially designing to avoid failure in their aggressive testing. It’s all under warranty for years anyway so if unexpected failure occurs, it’s covered. The materials they use are also much more advanced than in the past due to advancements in materials science. I think build quality is better than ever. Only Dyson have failure statistics though, and more importantly, information about how failure occurred.

It's not surprising people confuse 'motor power' or equivalent with cleaning performance; two quite different things. This was all discussed in the video; I encourage you to watch it.

    • @Mr_Jack_Shelby
      @Mr_Jack_Shelby 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      defcon 2 okay let's set this straight now. The Dyson cyclone v10 has 3 power settings. Setting 1 low power, in low the V10 has 60mins+- run time. On low there is enough air flow to clean up, the cleaner head does most of the work, the Airflow just takes the dirt away. Low power is also used to clean delicate objects. Setting 2 medium is used to clean heavier soiled surfaces, it's also better on thicker piled carpets. Now setting 3 "max". Max is used for ground in dirt or to pick up larger objects. On max the motor is at full power and the battery pack is put under extreme load *well within the specs of the cells*. When on max the cleaner head will lock itself to the floor, this causes the brush head to push deep inside the pile, there is alot less airflow making the vac less efficient, however is does remove ground in dirt deep in the pile ! Then you turn max off and go over the area to suck up the dirt. So in short if it was that powerful all the time to wouldn't be efficient and the battery packs wouldn't have a 10 year life expectancy.
