Then check engine light comes back on GM had to have a field engineer come look at it and he says it’s a faulty camshaft cover. It’s good for a while. Then here comes the check engine light again. Back to the shop 🤬 nox sensor bad again. They have a field engineer look at it again and determines the turbo is blowing oil into the air intake. Now they can’t find a turbo anywhere 🤬🤬. Not to mention I have barely been able to get 22 mpg. This thing has been nothing but frustration. And this thing only has 42k miles on it! 🤬
i completely agree with the suspension, overall handling, i replaced my shocks with bilstein and its a night and day difference now. i have the silverado rst z71 3.0 l. 25k miles on mine, only thing i noticed is the no start about 4 times in 2 years, it's a push button start, after second try (on no start) it will start normal. havent taken it to the dealer for that yet. congrats on your mpg's iam very heavy footed and get 22 average
I have a 21 also with 7500 miles and started having a click sound when backing out of my driveway. I found the u bolts that hold the rear end to the leaf springs needed to be snugged up. Since then no more noise. I also installed a idash just to keep an eye on regen and soot level. If you are getting close to a regen you can force it to start while driving or stationary. just my 2 cents. Love the videos!
That jittery suspension is a major reason I went with my 2019 ram; they have 5 link coil suspension, and there is absolutely none of that type of jitter, rides more like a unibody SUV and is definitely the best riding truck (and the optional air is even better but suffers from cold weather issues). Appreciate your honesty, I was very interested in the little diesel but I think if I bought a chevy tomorrow I'd probably go for the 2.7 turbo instead, gas is just much easier for me to deal with.
Hello Dave. love your videos. I have the exact (2021) and color as your truck, except that I have the X31 Pkg. At 32,000 Kms I am only getting 25-27 Mpg Highway. I live in Alberta Canada. Even people I know have the same engine are getting 30-32 Mpg Highway. Knock on wood! I have not yet had any issues. Love the lower end torque at 1500 RPM. As for my REGEN, I purchased a Banks Power Idash gauge. This gauge tells me when it's ready to do a REGEN. A great advantage. Not to mention the other 52 sensor functions it has for the 3-liter Diesel.
I am also from Alberta and have the 2021 with the 3.0 and just recently did a 1200 km drive and averaged 7.4 L/100 kms = 38.2 miles per imperial gallon = 31.8 miles per us gallon. Thankfully so far no DEF or other codes. Really like the truck and engine.
@@terrypederson8445 Your one lucky Guy to get that good of MPG.. I talked to others and they have better MPG than myself. 😞 My last GMC was a 2012 5.3 @ 15 MPG. At least I'm not getting that...
Rear diffs with GM's limited slip type (fly weights lock diff when there is approx 100 rpm split between left & right wheels) this diff has spun my truck sideways on an icy driveway.
ive had nothing but issues with my 21 3.0 been at the dealership for 2 months. torque converter is out right now or thats what they think. its got 27000 miles and its been messing up since 18000 miles ive got a case open with chevy on it but i dont trust this truck and im stuck with it cant trade or ill loss thousands . i spent every dollar of my VA comp. disability money on this truck . i volunteer my time with a hunting org. for vets and spent the whole summer setiing up and getting leases and other thing. all that money is wasted becuase i cant do it with out my truck. its been a bad experience and ofcourse no one cares. truck broke down cant get parts and lost 1000's on hunting leases and other things. thanks chevy
The rotors will get a little surface rust on them if the truck sits for a couple of days and that will make them a little noisy until it wears off...also the first thing I do after I start the truck is turn off the auto stop. And I've had a few issues with the truck spinning while towing in the rain. Put a tiny amount of loctite on the antenna..I have a 2021 GMC Sierra with the 3.0 and I like the truck but I've been thinking about selling and going with a gas truck. I have 42,000 miles on it and it's been a great truck so far but I only haul something every now and a then...
Why would you want to switch to the gas truck? There is relatively no differenece in towing capacity? The diesel gets better mileage. The diesel in these trucks were not built for towing. They were built for fuel mileage.
Just got my 2023 AT4 with LZ0. Super impressed so far. Super fast startup and great milage (what little I know). I hear MPG gets better as the engine matures.
Love your channel and love my 2022 3.0 gmc. I got a banks idash on mine, consider it mandatory with these. I can monitor everything and can force a regen when I’ll be on the highway for a while and so it’s not trying to when I’m in the city etc
I enjoy your vids. Keep up the great work. Btw, I have a 22’ Silverado LT with the 3L. The regen dynamic is my biggest complaint as well. Also, I have the same rear end clunk you describe. 9,000 miles on mine. Went in to the dealer to have the seat heaters finally enabled and asked them to check that. They couldn’t find anything wrong. I can pretty reliably reproduce it with the truck stationary by pushing/pulling on the side of the bed. Just need someone to do that while I poke around with a stethoscope.
Congrats. I bought my trailboss duramax about 3 months ago and it now has 13k miles. Barely today I got a CEL and I think it was because when it accelerated to do it’s regen while parked I turned it off. Disconnected the battery and well let’s find out if it was that. Other than that, no complaints.
Brake pads? I bought a new gmc yukon in 2005 and didn't need brakes until 160k miles and 17 years later. Im looking to buy ine of these trucks that's why I'm watching videos
In my experience with Chevy's. The factory brakes are awesome. 1st work truck a 2007 6.0 gasser 2500 I got 200k miles before I got a newer truck for work & never did the pads on the 07. My current 2011 6.0 2500 truck has 280k miles on it. I got it with 80k miles. Not sure if the pads were changed in that 80k but in the 200k I have put on it no pads have been replaced. Granted I don't do much towing but still 200k on 2 separate trucks is great IMO.
It’s an awesome truck. While I’d love the 2500 I can’t justify the enormity of the truck for what I usually do. The Sierra 1500 3L fit the bill beautifully.
@@BanditDavesToyChest I would consider a 2500, if I could get the little 3.0 in one OR if they would come out with an inline 6 for the 2500 (even if it was somewhere in between the 3.0 and 6.6 L) as I really dig the I6 over the V8 diesel. Just something about the sound when the inline 6 grunts.
most brake pads have a metal tab that will rub against the rotor when the pads are starting to wear. his is an indicator to let you know thae pads are getting worn
Well aware but when I took a look it’s not even close to the indicator. My guess is something is stuck and is slowly wearing away as the sound has noticeably gone down.
These engine are crap.. we are amazed to spend 50k or more on a truck and doing video every 15k miles cause we had “ minor issue”. I bought mine last june 2022.5 chevy silverado duramax.. in the first 3 weeks i had to replace an airbag, a camera lane assistance and i had a knocking noise every time i would start and stop which apparently on the fcb group there’s a whole bunch of it..not to mention we try to justify all the people with issue saying every group has complainers which is simply true to a much lower point..with the exception of a few most of these truck won’t reach passed 150k miles without having to spend thousands in repair, my old honda civic is about to reach 280k miles on all original components…not to mention the overall gm treatment, i received a letter from them saying my heated steering cheap could be delayed till may 2026 !! After having paid for it and all the newer model get out with all installed parts..sold the truck last month and never going back !! Good luck, you’re gonna need it
Our govt has ruined any benefit we used to enjoy driving diesel. Longevity(gone) Reliability(gone) Fuel mileage (gone) Cheap fuel(long gone) Easy to maintain(gone) No emission BS(gone) Thanks swamp creatures
Regarding the Regen. Does the truck let you know it’s in Regen? It kinda sounds like you get some kind of notice. If so what is it? Tks. And Tks for the update. Just got mine and hoping for many many years of service.
Love your videos, I have a 21 high country 3 L, 22,000 miles. I’ve had absolutely zero issues the truck is wonderful. I experience after four months of ownership the rear clunking sound backing out of my driveway just like you mentioned, I tightened up the shackle bolts but the noise didn’t go away, then I jacked it up put it on jackstands and put a little grease between the leaf springs And then the noise went away, my fuel mileage also averages between 28-32 miles per gallon highway the biggest factor to me is wind, if I have a headwind going 75 mph I’ll lose 4 miles per gallon, if I have a tail when I’ll gain 4 miles per gallon. I do have one crazy thing it’s been doing since day one and I’ve never heard anybody complain of this, when I am driving 80 mph on the highway and I have heavy Cross winds, the roof of the truck probably around the drip rail right hand side I hear tremendous howling so loud it scares you at first. But it takes 80 mph or faster on a windy day, if I back it down to 75 mph then the noise goes away. I program myself to every time I start the truck I turn off auto stop. I’ve never had the long crank at start up like a lot of people have complained about, which I know it’s an easy fix with the reflash. keep up the good work, let’s all hope for 300,000 miles.
I have a question 🤔 is GM and or Chevrolet made in China? The reason why I ask is because I saw a documentary and it was all about the GM brand and how it became a chines built pickup truck and cars.
With the additional cost per gallon of diesel fuel vs gasoline, more expensive maintenance, and additional cost of purchasing a diesel engine, which is more economical if the truck is not needed for towing?
Depends on how you use it. Where I live diesel is 30% more than gas. It used to be that you had to do big miles and do a lot of towing to take advantage of a diesel. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 3.0L, but If I had to do it all over again I’d go with the 5.3.
Awesome content! New sub! Very glad I found your channel! I’m in a tough spot… kind of😅. My wife has wanted a truck for a while. We are looking for a vehicle to possibly replace our 2014 4runner which sits in the carport while we drive our commuters (terrible mpg on 4runner). Looking for something with decent mileage that could possibly replace a commuter and 4runner at the same time, but don’t really want a hybrid or small sized sedan. 3rd row hybrid SUV’s with AWD get mid ish 30s mpg. Luxury SUV’s start at 45-50k ish. This seems like it would totally fit the Bill! I’ve never owned a diesel and am not mechanically inclined, would taking the truck in to the dealership for maintenance offset the benefits of the truck? Specially when considering diesel prices? I’m in Northern California so diesel prices are extra crazy high.
Do you think it’s too much of a pain in the rear owning a diesel if someone were to have to take it to a shop for all the service work? Cost wise, and just general maintenance wise?
@@kingsproductions9760 I have this setup too in a 2021 Sierra Denali 1500. Absolutely love it. There's really not a whole lot of extra stuff to do with the diesel. Standard oil change. You do have to add DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), but if you can fill your gas tank at a fuel pump, you have the technical capability to add the DEF. The other maintenance item is the fuel filter, which is super easy to replace. With that said, I've not had to replace my fuel filter yet and I have about 24,000 miles on my truck. The computer tells you the % life left on the filter so you can certainly plan it with one of your oil changes. Other than that, there's not really a whole lot of extra to do with the diesel over the gasser.
Hello Dave. Did you ever have a rattling noise on the rear passenger doors. Is a noise like a door is ajar. Mine is pretty much the same truck you have. 2021 elevation but with the x31 package. And by the way mine is 22000miles really happy with this truck.
Honestly no, I think it mainly stems from the fact that I am in the car so much I reach oil changes so quickly. I dump it, new filter and refill with 7 quarts. Rarely do I check dipstick but I will definitely check and report back. Will have my 60k review this weekend and will make it a point to let folks know if there’s any excessive consumption.
Had a 2022 with 18000 miles no issues. Traded it for new 2023 with the new LZ0 version of 3.0 duramax, better mileage in first 500 miles. Just wanted your take on how you would access chain at back of engine. What gm states is that you drop the tranny, but just saw someone else who claimed you needed to remove the cab. Any idea on what the truth is?
My 21 3.0l gasses me out with exhaust every morning the dealership can’t figure it out. I don’t know what to do. It’s not regen it’s really bad. I’ve been warming up then blow all the fumes out with a leaf blower. Anyone else having this problem. I really like the truck but this a major deal breaker.
Does your truck rear end have limited slip rear end? A limited slip on wet roads when making a turn will slip then grab on the other side making a rear end fish tail.
Bought me a new Sierra 3.0 Duramax and 750 miles later, Emissions System (Check engine light) came on. Has anyone gone through this problem? What was your solution?
@@eduardordgz1824 wow that seems early for that under any normal circumstance. Did you clear it and continue driving? I’m wondering if you caught it during one of those first regens and she got pissed? Any feedback from the dealer (not that I’d put much stock in it)?
Mine did this at 14k miles when it was 10 degrees outside but I ran it super low on DEF so Ont thinking that’s why it though the same code . So far I had my front transfer case rebuild and had a no start twice from running it very low on DEF
100,000 check up on your belt which is beside your firewall. Have to take your trans out to check it $1000 bill. Not a good engine to work on unless your mechanic.

It’s interesting that you mention the suspension kicking out in the rear. I live in a small town in West Texas. Out on the highway it is 75 mph speed limit. Crossing the railroad tracks with this 2020 3.0 little max on the highway at that speed is a little bit of a butt pucker. It absolutely sends this truck dancing in the rear. I had a 2017 Z71 before this with a stouter suspension and it took those tracks just fine. I was talking to my son about it and he thinks I should change the shocks. I tend to agree as this 2020 has took those tracks to the dance from day one. I think that is absolutely my biggest gripe. I’ve had this truck since new, the only issue has been a screen lock, radio freeze and rear camera stayed on. I was in Biloxi, Ms at the time and took it to the dealership and they reflashed it and said the brake system also needed reflashed. They said there was a tech bulletin on that, however I never noticed a brake issue. The antenna was the first thing I replaced as it bounced on my garage door entering and leaving. Put in a shortie and it has worked well. This has been a great truck, the paint is weak, I have countless rock chips so much so it’s noticeable a lot. My old 17 Silverado had very few and it was black. Paint was much better on old truck. This RST is the Northsky blue and it has hundreds of chips. But, I’m old and retired and don’t much care about looks anymore. This has been a very dependable truck with plenty of torque to pull my enclosed trailer. Much better than my old 5.3. I am going to change those factory shocks shortly as that suspension is absolutely my biggest gripe. So much to the point I think it’s dangerous the way it bounces and kicks like a mule. It should grip the road and it does not.
None of your complaints are actual valid complaints. Every truck on the market has all of those same complaints or different. They are not unique to this truck.
So what’s your point? You literally said they are not complaints then went and said every truck has these complaints. Like I said they are very minor, but I can tell you the trucks I have had previously did not have the brake squealing and spring knocking issues. I also didn’t have sensors that randomly drew MIL lights.
One may find problem bugs on the front end. It's a wonder American Automobile Designers hadn't a way, with aerodynamics perhaps, to send bugs flying around the vehicle altogether
Finally your DEF system recalled from the factory. You did a good job. Thanks for your review.

i completely agree with the suspension, overall handling, i replaced my shocks with bilstein and its a night and day difference now. i have the silverado rst z71 3.0 l. 25k miles on mine, only thing i noticed is the no start about 4 times in 2 years, it's a push button start, after second try (on no start) it will start normal. havent taken it to the dealer for that yet. congrats on your mpg's iam very heavy footed and get 22 average
Mine has the same issue. Probably 12 times in the last 2 yrs.
Dealer is researching now. I'll update you if they give me any info.
Congrats man! I should be getting my 23 AT4 3L, it should get delivered Monday, can't wait! Hopefully mine will be just as reliable as yours.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Hello Dave. love your videos.
Think I will buy one of these.
Rear diffs with GM's limited slip type (fly weights lock diff when there is approx 100 rpm split between left & right wheels) this diff has spun my truck sideways on an icy driveway.
put some grease on your steering stops and see if your suspenion noise goes away
ive had nothing but issues with my 21 3.0 been at the dealership for 2 months. torque converter is out right now or thats what they think. its got 27000 miles and its been messing up since 18000 miles
ive got a case open with chevy on it but i dont trust this truck and im stuck with it cant trade or ill loss thousands . i spent every dollar of my VA comp. disability money on this truck . i volunteer my time with a hunting org. for vets and spent the whole summer setiing up and getting leases and other thing. all that money is wasted becuase i cant do it with out my truck.
its been a bad experience and ofcourse no one cares. truck broke down cant get parts and lost 1000's on hunting leases and other things. thanks chevy
Hey brother what color is your truck?
How is it going up to date
Is the filter casing plastic or metal?
Powder coated aluminum

Love your channel and love my 2022 3.0 gmc. I got a banks idash on mine, consider it mandatory with these. I can monitor everything and can force a regen when I’ll be on the highway for a while and so it’s not trying to when I’m in the city etc
Hello Dallas.. I love my idash. Always monitoring my regen. Question is, how do you force a Regen on the 3.0 L.??
Love mine too! Great truck. Fuel price is crazy though…..
I recently drove the ram eco diesel and loved it! I didn't even know the diesels came in the half tons. Very curious about the truck
Some comments refer to “regen” on the 3.0 Diesel. What is regen? Do all Diesels do that?
most brake pads have a metal tab that will rub against the rotor when the pads are starting to wear. his is an indicator to let you know thae pads are getting worn
Good luck, you’re gonna need it
You sold the truck ? Which one you think is better ? The 5.3 Chevrolet ? Ford ? Toyota truck ?

What's it cost to fill up your tank?
Normally if I am empty I’m around that $100 mark more or less. Typically based on my commute it’s $70ish because I refill around that 1/4 tank mark.
I have a question 🤔 is GM and or Chevrolet made in China? The reason why I ask is because I saw a documentary and it was all about the GM brand and how it became a chines built pickup truck and cars.
Mine was built in Fort Wayne Indiana 🤷♂️
With the additional cost per gallon of diesel fuel vs gasoline, more expensive maintenance, and additional cost of purchasing a diesel engine, which is more economical if the truck is not needed for towing?
Depends on how you use it. Where I live diesel is 30% more than gas. It used to be that you had to do big miles and do a lot of towing to take advantage of a diesel. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 3.0L, but If I had to do it all over again I’d go with the 5.3.
The 3.0 is not for towing. It was built for fuel mileage. The 3/4 ton trucks are for towing. 8,000lbs vs 17000 lbs for towing ratings.
O loved u videos and I don’t have duramax LOL maybe in the future…. That is the filter for the diesel fuel ?
Anything to report on oil consumption ?
Honestly no, I think it mainly stems from the fact that I am in the car so much I reach oil changes so quickly. I dump it, new filter and refill with 7 quarts. Rarely do I check dipstick but I will definitely check and report back. Will have my 60k review this weekend and will make it a point to let folks know if there’s any excessive consumption.
I only get 28 on hyway max
What does average oil filter and fuel filter change cost you total?
Oil change depending on where you grab it…$85-$100
Fuel filter, $30ish
Both easy to do yourself
@@BanditDavesToyChest how often u replace the oil and filter ? Is any additional filter on the duramax to change? I don’t know nothing about diesel
@@watchmanexpert just the oil filter and seven quarts when she tells me…fuel filter every 25K miles or so.
Any idea on what the truth is?
it's tranny only, not cab.
Take it to the shop
What was the code?
@@BanditDavesToyChest it was a P0402
@@eduardordgz1824 wow that seems early for that under any normal circumstance. Did you clear it and continue driving? I’m wondering if you caught it during one of those first regens and she got pissed? Any feedback from the dealer (not that I’d put much stock in it)?
@@BanditDavesToyChest it’s a 2023. I did not clear the code and took it to the dealership yesterday. They’ll have an answer today.
Mine did this at 14k miles when it was 10 degrees outside but I ran it super low on DEF so Ont thinking that’s why it though the same code . So far I had my front transfer case rebuild and had a no start twice from running it very low on DEF
Just bought at4 3.0 with 37k miles and love it. Only problem I have is something rattle'ish when it bumps or start the engine. Any idea what it is ?

100,000 check up on your belt which is beside your firewall. Have to take your trans out to check it $1000 bill. Not a good engine to work on unless your mechanic.
By any chance are you going to change your trans oil and filter? I know it's recommended at 45k
Well shit…I better do that then! I will look into it and post it!

Good to know I just picked up my 21 AT4 3.0 and loving it so far! Although I’m getting an estimated 360 miles to a tank, 14MPG but I do have a lift on 35’s. I was hoping for better MPG I could also be off on my calibration. The MPG difference in the 22 plus is nuts.
👍
