  • I'm a big fan of the Fairline Targa 38, so I was interested to see how the slightly larger Targa 40 compared.

My dad owned one when I was a teenager and I must say its a brilliant boat, the only thing that was missing on was the AC but we got used to it. The walk-way is a bit tight on the outside for inexperinced people but you get used to it quick with the good position of the grab rails. And you can still step over the windscreen on the left side if you arent too clumsy. The inside has massive amouts of storage space, the only bad things are the position of the cooking area and the steep stairs. Thats everything we didnt like in the 4 years we owned one.... apart from the fact that we had to sell it :( god I miss this beauty. Thanks Nick for the nostalgia :)

Loved your comment about the ketchup...it reminded me of when I was little (early 70s in Philadelphia) and we took my Aunt and Uncle to one of the areas more upscale steakhouses. My aunt ordered Prime Rib, something they were known for, and when the waiter put in in front of her she asked for a bottle of ketchup. My parents just sort of shook their heads; we all knew her practice of putting ketchup on everything. The waiter looked at her with a look of horror and said, "Madam, we do not serve *that* here..." She smiled, reached into her purse and pulled out a bottle of ketchup, "That's ok...I brought my own just in case." My uncle and parents were mortified and I just chuckled like the kindergartner that I was!

I've been binge watching this channels videos for a week now and I'm pretty much down to just a few left to watch. Love this channel. I like this boat a lot. The last thing I expected to see was an american built boat next to it. My jaw hit the floor when I noticed the Crownline boat next to this boat on the starboard side! Couldn't believe it! Crownline boats are built 150 miles from where I live in Illinois. I am a Crownline owner. I have a 2010 240LS. Thanks for all of these wonderful video's. I love the styling of these boats.

My new favorite - between the Targa 40 and Targa 38. I like what they did with the extra two feet. Very clever stuff, like massive galley / saloon area, two proper cabins, no flip up shelf over the toilet, that very easy engine access, I could go on and on, but I won't. Although I've heard you some time in the near future go on about a Princess yacht. And now you've re-commisioned "Smugglers Blues II" in March 2020. We'll just have to wait and see...

Excellent use of space on this boat. I love the salon area, and the circular shower stall. I'd be interested in the range, etc. Also, what would make it perfect would be some flip out seats in the tender garage. It would make a perfect little fishing spot with the door giving some shade.

Again a very enjoyable trip around a boat with you. I sit at my desk watching your videos and enjoy following along as I have no knowledge of the subject at all. I wonder about the running cost etc and what the depreciation would be. But probably more importantly what sort of training would be required to get the level of skill needed to actually take a boat out and feel safe. Maybe you could give us a guide to the safety aspects, running costs we would could expect. Because if you carry on like this my friend, I might wake up one day having spent a small fortune and it would have been your fault. Once thank you.

Great work as always. Might you one day do a much longer comparison video of suggestions for the ideal first timer 4 berth boats under 34 feet, such as the Targa 30 and 34, the Bavaria 32 but more importantly some of the competition we might not be aware of.
I'm sure you have many viewers looking to dip a toe in the water but obviously not wanting anything too big whilst still being able to accommodate two to four people for a long weekend, so beyond the cuddy cabins.
Liken it to your first car where you start to learn the basics in something cheap and don't mind a few bumps or scrapes along the way before you progress to something bigger and more expensive.....but on water.
Btw, it would be great to see some really in depth reviews of the cheaper boats as I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see every nook & cranny and wishes your reviews were longer.
It's a shame some of the brokers don't encourage you to conduct a brief sea trial as it would be great to see and hear how these more affordable used boats actually perform whilst providing valuable publicity for the broker.
    Keep up the great work.

Stunning craft, really good looking. Would not like to have to work on those engines though that is tight!

Hey Nick. Brilliant video there. Really nice boat. I must say although I hate canopies on boats I really lean to these Targa 38 & 40. I wonder how much desty marine would cost up a solid roof with fixed windows for.so as to remove the canopies. Nick. I watch your videos all the time and have done for many years, the other lovely chaps too. Now I can’t recall all their names, there is a slim chap who carries his tours in an almost surprised and urgent manner, the other chap tall and thicker set, carries out his tours with an eye of perhaps criticism and of course that what we need. So I think that your way of representing a boat be it super yacht or run about is or should be the staple of representation as you set a charming but realistic view of all boats. As you may recall we own a Grandezza 27OC brought 5his February. Great boat and new feeling with modern tech which we love. Older and bigger, hmmmmm !

Nice to see a cheaper boat on the channel again. This boat is in fine condition considering nearly 16yrs old?

Really nice boat, you can tell the previous owner LOVED her, excellent condition. Personally on a vessel this size I think a dinghy is overkill, I'd much rather have the headroom/big ass hatch that opens to the engine bay, cause on any boat you gotta wrench and this one would be miserable IMO. It would be a great Miami boat for cruising to the Bahamas/Exumas for a few days, something fun for a first time yacht owner. Any farther out than that though I'd want a bigger boat with a longer range and a lot more storage(something this boat is lacking if you want to use that 2nd cabin)

Thank you for yet another great tour. Im getting a slight feeling that you have a thing for Fairlines? :) Quite understandable if so, I am definitely acquiring a taste for the brand myself! The 40 really seems like a much bigger boat than the 38, certainly bigger than the different in model number suggests. Im guessing the longer bathing platform on the 38 is in part to blame for that?

Hey Nick! If you ever walk by a Cranchi 47 Mediteranee, could you please make a review on that one? It’s my dream boat but without your high end review I’ll never be sure 😂
