This guys not talking about an external hard drive. He's talking about an additional internal hard drive he installed inside the console. You cannot play games directly from an external hd.
Very simple and to the point but I have a question it may seem like a dumb one but Google couldn't necessarily give me an answer when you download games onto the m. To storage you can play them directly from the storage right?
It’s important to also notate that when transferring files from your ps4 to ps5 it will always default to console storage this cannot be changed the work around it go back and manually transfer them to the m.ssd
If you're moving the games, is it necessary to move the saved data too in order to play the games that were moved in the ssd, to continue were you left off of any of the games moved? I'm confused
Getting to the point of increasing the internal drive on my ps5. So am I right in what I'm seeing / assuming - when you add a new drive it's not as though you're pulling out a 1TB console drive and replacing it with a new one and would have to do all sorts of transferring beforehand???? So if I add a 2TB drive into the slot, I'm essentially getting 3TB of console storage?
I'm guessing one still needs to set the default installation location to the SSD even if they install it before turnng on the machine for the first time. Also, I'm just being pedantic here (because it bothers me for some reason lol) but the "X" button is actually called the "cross" button. Sony are using shapes. Now that I got that off my chest, great tutorial!
This might be a stupid question but once they are installed by putting in the game and installing, do I still have to put the disc in for whatever game I’m going to play?
Can I tell the PS5 to save my saved videos and screen shots to the M.2? Or maybe, if the PS5 internal drive truly is 5500 MB/s read, and my new drive is 7300 MB/s read (as advertised, but 6539 MB/s read according to the PS5 when installed) I should in fact move games over to the NEWER and FASTER M.2 and let the trophy and saved video clips stay on the original internal. Will games really play faster on a faster read speed SSD? I thought the entire pipeline from SSD to TV was what made games fast on the PS5. If I'm starting from a new M.2... does that new M.2 go through the same pipeline?
Any conflicts with saves ? All supported normal ? The point is to expand the life of internal-base nvme because it's not replaceable. So the saves are the most writing files in there and is best to can be transferred also. But this not possible yet and maybe will never be.
Did you found out about the saved games when switching from your old to a new ssd? I wonder if I change my ssd to bigger one if I lose my progress from ps5 games I'm playing?
you can play it directly to the new ssd installed.. but if you are using external ssd plugged in to the usb port then it cannot be played it serves as a storage only.. only the internal ssd slot is able to install games & apps & can be played..
Can I default the expansion m.2 for saves and profiles etc? So in the case of a console replacement i can just install the external m 2 on new console and be up and running instantly
Spot on! i have just installed an internal SSD, and was wondering how to move the installed games on the console storage to the new M.2 Storage. Your tutorial solved my issue quickly, and also gave an additional useful tip (i.e., takes longer to move an installed game from the M.2 to the Console Storage).
im thinking about getting a ps5 with an internal ssd possibly, if i sell my ps4 (i might keep it or might sell it). i was going to ask if the ssd games perofrm the same as the console storage games? is there any downside to stuff stored on the ssd, besides not being able to store saved data, screenshots and video clips?
@@bobdarrick2628 so far i haven't noticed any performance drop with games installed in an internal ssd. games load faster, gameplay appears smoother in general, you don't have to keep inserting and ejecting discs everytime you want to play different games, and so on. like any hardware, ssd has a lifetime and wear and tear. then there is the capacity. 2 TB store about (give and take) 30 PS5 games, depending on the size. if you got money to spare, i would recommend a 2-4 GB internal SSD. else, a 2-4 GB internal SSD, and with a 4-16 GB external HDD as a backup.
