It's better to move the games rather than copying because you're creating two copies of the same game (and DLC). One in the internal HDD and the other one in the external HDD which will just eat up your storage even faster. Copying and moving takes about the same amount of time so moving will always be better than copying. I guess the downside is not being able to do anything on the PS5 until the data is done moving. If you copy the game back to the internal PS5 storage, you will have to re-download all DLC again and it's almost as if the game is being downloaded again to your console rather than just copying the data. Sony sure loves making everything complicated with the PS5.

Another issue with the external hardrive that Sony messed up in recent system updates is that the console no longer recognizes the external hardrive as soon as you turn on the console. I'm someone who always leaves the external hardrive plugged in to my PS5 and before the updates my PS4 games were ready to go and ready to play. Now, I need to wait a few minutes before I can play them as the console is reading the external hardrive and I get the USB icon in the top middle screen.

I just recently finally git myself a ps5 because I was just so into my ps4 and wasn't really feeling the ps5. But I got one now and had to get a external hard drive and this video helped me alot thank you. I never needed any kinda hard drive for my ps4 as 1tb was enough for me. @@xandermartinez4654 PS5 games are meant to take advantage of SSDs, not HDDs. So that's why you can't play PS5 games stored on external hard drives. It's unlikely that this will be something they 'fix'

I don't think drives will be able to handle it. If anything, it'll be very specific external SSDs. Otherwise, I think onboard expandable storage is going to be it.

No but you can if you install an m2 ssd internally. It's quite easy to do.

There’s no point really of having a hard drive then if we can’t play directly from it, can always keep the on library or physical discs
