    One thing to note is that if you are having trouble removing the cover, try making sure that you do not have a disc inserted into the system. I had a hard time removing my cover. Then I remembered that I still had a game disc inside. So I plugged the system back in, ejected the disc, shut the system off, then unplugged everything. After that, the cover came off easily.
    I don’t know for sure if having a disc inside was why I was having trouble, but it couldn’t hurt to remove the disc before you start.

He was saying that you can use any supported regular nvme SSD and it'll work, unlike the Xbox extension card which is a first-party SSD exclusively for Xbox with double the price of a regular third-party SSD... Sony gives you the choice to choose anything you want from those cheap third parties options...while Xbox didn't. There’s pros and cons like anything. While the Xbox solution is so easy your grandma could do it it’s more expensive and it’s a cash grab for Microsoft, the PS5 process isn’t difficult for your average gamer but it’s more difficult than Xbox’s solution but the upside is you can choose from a range of SSDs already made in a standardized format which is more consumer friendly. You literally only need a screw driver. PC gamers would laugh at someone calling it an invasive or difficult process. And when the process is done there’s really no chance of accidentally removing, losing, or physically damaging the SSD while Xbox’s can be pushed in to be removed

      People are complaining? That's funny. What's to complain about. Sony made a very smart decision going with a industry standard (M.2 PCI-E 4.0 NVME) for storage expansion. Means users have tons of choices/competition for drives, the install is extremely easy. Even if you are not someone that builds their own gaming PC (not saying that's hard by any means to be clear) or very tech savvy at all. Pick a drive, which is easy, just look for the "PS5 Compatible" logo. Then pop the cover of, remove two screws insert the drive, replace the screws and cover and done. Microsoft's approach is obv even simpler. It works like the old memory cards. Which is cool, the portability etc. But the price ($150 for the 1TB right now on Amazon US) isn't that great. You can get a Samsung 990 Pro 1TB for $130, which has significantly higher I/O performance (and you could use it in a PC/laptop later at some point if you wanted).

    I particularly appreciated the specific but simple method for removing the faceplate that was stated. You can tell that is how the console was engineered and that they are using that method because that's what they would use themselves. As somebody who's always paranoid about breaking bezels when I have to pop open a console, this was a huge relief.

  • @maximusstorm1215
    @maximusstorm1215 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I think the face plates are a fantastic design choice by Sony. With other consoles, to get off the shell, you had to faff around with lots of tiny screws, of which could easily go missing. Plus, it took time.
    However, with the PS5, there's no such thing. It literally just has 2 plates which come off with ease, and you can get to the inner parts in minutes. Also, not only is expansion super easy, but they have a dedicated separate slot from the main SSD, so you don't have to replace one for the other, a new SSD will simply add to the total storage, which is great.
    Furthermore, the plates are so simplistic, that it allows one to easily buy a custom pair, to make their console look unique by replacing the white ones. I recently bought black plates that are sized 1:1 with the console, which make it look more compact and neat, plus, these new plates I have also have a vent on each side for the fan. A custom shell for a PS4 would cost a lot due to a more complex manufacturing process & the fact there's much less demand, but you can get new plates for as cheap as £15. Mine cost £27.
    Whilst the PS5 is easily the best console out atm, I must say, Sony's recent stunt with the price bump in PSN is outrageous. I love PlayStation, but you shouldn't have to pay at all to play online with friends. I'm in the boat with people that have boycott PSN to try and make a change, by stopping their PSN subscription.
    Sony literally make money out of thin air by charging people to use these servers, because Sony don't even own them, hence why it cost nothing on the PS3, but changed when the PS4 came out because Microsoft had the bright idea of charging to play online with the 360, so Sony followed suit. It's literally a money printing machine, and we shouldn't have to pay.

Crazy idea, but the existence of a screw being loose on a factory assembled product implies the existence of a screw being too tight on a factory assembled product and can result in striping when removing.

    What a great guide for installing extra SSD storage. Really helpful and it all went smoothly. Thank you so much for this. Upgrading my PS4 storage several years ago was a bit of a chore. This was smooth as silk. Great improvement.
    If I may, just a few suggestions to help improve this guide? (a) That collar for the screwing down the end of the SSD card is REALLY small. A pair of tweezers really helped me out; and (b) Perhaps a photo of where the card slides in exactly. I kept trying to push it inbetween two like-looking metal strips but just wouldn't go. Just ended up sliding it in and see what happens. No click for me. Just slid into place. Booted up and everything was fine.
