That’s true, and as long as you’re not a smoker nor having anyone smoking inside the house then you’re all good. I personally have a dust cover on mine, it was around $20 off of Amazon where it goes over the middle portion of the console while simultaneously allowing the same amount of airflow.
Its important to keep your system clean and ventilated of course but it shouldnt require you to take the system apart to prevent it from overheating on certain games. That would be unacceptable from a design perspective if it required you to disassemble the fan every year to prevent certain games from over heating the system. The system should be able to handle some dust build up and compensate with the fan speed accordingly.
Hard disagree. This is something that should be done with any electronic that has an air intake. Like everything else in the world, these degrade over time and simple maintenance can keep it running longer. Doesn't take much time or effort to do.
Taking the cover off and removing a fan to clean it every month is an insane maintenance schedule. I've had my PS5 nearly a year now and I've never taken the cover off. I also shouldn't have to. At most, Sony should build them with removable filters that slide out without removing the case side, and those should get cleaned or replaced every 6 months or less often.
@@hemogoblin69you void any warranty once you take it apart so yes, you shouldn’t have to take it apart to clean it because it’s even suppose to be done. Just dusting and cleaning around it is enough 🤓
@@phillipd33znuts You clearly don't even know what your talking about. You don't take this thing apart, you remove the side covers that are meant to be taken off for this purpose to vacuum the dust catchers in the system. You do the exact same thing if you want your side covers to have the color purple or blue that sony themselves sells.
@@NrettGyou clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Removing the sticker covering the screw and unscrewing it, is taking it apart, not just removing the side panels 🤡😂. Bro you tried.
@@phillipd33znuts If your going for a deep clean? yes. Plus just just basic maintence with removing that t9 screw is all you need to do for that big ass fan they have. Sony made it very clear that this thing was made to be cleaned VERY easily compared to having the take the entire thing apart like the PS4. So no, not wrong.
A note about vertical placement. The way the air vent is shaped leaves the vent holes for the psu on the “floor” inside the channel. It’s on the wall when laid horizontally but vertically it ends up on the bottom. Over time dust will lay there and pretty quickly can be clogged in completely. I’ve fixed half a dozen ps5s that were shutting down due to psu overheat and those holes were the culprit every time. If you’re gonna have it vertical blow that shit out bimonthly
I've cleaned my, this week, vertical since the launch week... just a little bit dust. It's in open place, good airflow. yes I have a cat, and I live in a very high floor apartment.

I keep mine in the horizontal position on a media cabinet shelf that actually has a lot of space around the console. It seems to collect very little dust anywhere other than the white panel. That panel design is great at generally shielding the vents from dust fall.
That would be smart IF dust fell, but dust floats and it floats up and down and left to right. It floats diagonally as well, so there is no difference between dust in either position.
same bro ive had my ps4 for 9 years now and its still working to a good extent, idk if i shud get a ps5 as everyones on about the overheating issue, which is something i dont like.
when you think about it, the jet engine does last longer than the ps5 without maintenence... well every number is a step in the future, maybe ps6 will fix these problems and we'll get more problems too
Here's a crazy thought maybe sony you should make a better system. Charging $600 for a system and then telling people they need to take it apart and clean it once a month is insane. Saying it's overheating cuz you're playing PS5 games on a PS5 is also insane that's what it's for. That's like saying your TV will overheat if you watch it
The power supply is likely the key problem. The good news is: I recently disassembled and cleaned my entire PS5 and while there was dust on the the PSU vents, it was not clogged. Note: I have a dusty apartment and let the PS5 stand vertically since November 2020. Keeping the PS5 horizontal, in an open place and possibly a disassembled cleaning of the fins, fan and PSU every ~3 years will probably be good enough. One might even look into getting an extra long straw for a compressed air can, taking the fan out and then attempting to blow out the PSU vents from the fan cavity (see view in the video). One more thing: users might be more inclined to stand their PS5 horizontally id they have doubts about liquid metal on the heat dissipation plate above the CPU or if they do run a long hours of true PS5 gen games.
They were dealing with less power, less parts, etc. A console is not a magical artifact that performs through some intangible means. We are dealing with reality. You want better graphics, you need more calculations, faster chips, more complex systems, higher efficiency, better cooling systems... more things can go wrong.
I would recommend not using compressed air for the following reasons There are a few things to watch out for: Avoid spraying the refrigerant liquid, which can happen if you shake the can, or angle it too much. The refrigerant is very cold, so can damage some sensitive electronic components on the pcb I would recommend air blower from places like amazon or ebay with no liquid and are rechargeable 😁👍
Remember when all we had to do was give our game cartridge a blowie and everything would be fine? Now we have to perform more maintenance on gaming systems and computers than we do on our cars.
My 2 kids each have a launch day console. 3 weeks ago one starting shutting down randomly and this week the other one started doing it. Ended up taking both apart and honestly they weren’t that dusty but cleaning them did fix the issue. Just crazy how widespread the issue is
They aren’t. Wide open on a gaming desk, in gaming room. The room has AC and is clean and in a pet free home. Makes no sense to me especially because they really weren’t that dusty but they are still working crash free since cleaning a month ago
Did you take it apart all the way to the power supply or just the fan. I recently cleaned my cooling fan, and my console is in a well ventilated area and it still randomly shuts off
Dude was about to say the same thing I had my PS4 for 6 maybe 7 years and it never over heated I would dust the vents and wipe it down clean do same to my 5 only time I ever taken the shell off was to install my m.2
I literally have a wall-mounted entertainment shelf that the PS five sits on by itself vertically on a stand with built-in fans. They also charge the controllers. I also have charged my face plates to aftermarket ones on Amazon’s with a built-in Vent ports
Lol. You don't use vacuums on electronics. Always use blasts of air VS suction. Air blasts won't dislodge anything. A vacuum will. It can even cause enough air pressure to snap solder points due to refraction of the unit. It will work until one day it will just do damage
I have a random one in case anyone finds the information helpful. If you have a traditional HDD always hooked up in a port at the back to play your PS4 games and you get random shut offs or overheating then try it without the external HDD. I used to use a 4TB ext HDD for PS4 games and had no problems, however I saw a special on a 5TB external HDD one day and decided to get that. I found that the power draw and heat on that new HDD I had specifically seemed to cause my PS5 to shut down a lot, but I didn't make the connection at the time and almost sent the console in for repair. As soon as I went back to the old HDD and subsequently a portable SSD I never had any more overheating problems
@@Chrome1986Hun Not yet luckally. Only went as far as changing my plates and using a compressed air can. As long I keep up on preventing dust build up there's nothing to worry about.
Mine was doing this with exclusives and titles meant to take advantage of the current gen console power. When I took it apart it had a lot of dust and my environment was any dustier than usual. I guess due to the design it allows more dust in. Once I cleaned it was fine but something to be aware of. Also if you had a launch PS5 like I did it's definitely time for a clean.
I cleaned it once since launch. Once I got my Cuda. I know it is going to be Hella dirty and gross. I just know my old buddies Murphy and Law will be there for when I start taking it apart.
Opening your PS5 once a month for cleaning is ridiculous. Once a year is much more reasonable, I have never had to open a console for cleaning and they've always run fine.
Be very careful if you're going to unplug the fan to remove, two friends of mine damaged the connector and now the fan won't work. I didn't know this could happened when I cleaned mine and somehow mine is ok, so it's unlikely, but good to know.
Cause he’s slow you gotta use a needle nose plyer he probably broke the plastic piece he grabbed it wrong and it broke it from the bottom he has to open it all up and solder it smh or give it to PlayStation to fix
Wiggling the connector up and down while pulling ever so slightly will remove the fan safely. People with zero finesse in life just yank. That's why theirs are broken 🤡
Some people, my good friend included, are having issues with the console shutting off. They do not receive a “Your PS5 is too hot” message, and it doesn’t even seem hot. I’ve troubleshooted with him and, being a subscriber to your channel, thought I could help. After giving it a thorough cleaning we experimented with horizontal/vertical placement, plugging the power directly into the wall, and clearing cache/rebuilding the database. It’s led me down some Google search rabbit holes. A few Reddit users pointed out this same problem only happens when they play PS5 games. Lately, like you’ve pointed out, big new powerful games such as Diablo and Final Fantasy have released and it’s these games he’s had issues with, not PS4 titles. It’s been said that these consoles with this issue may have faulty GPU’s. That seems like a tough pill to swallow. PlayStation support does fixes for like $200. I want to help him because man, that just seems like a tough deal. Not sure if anyone will read this comment or if it will help anyone, just thought I’d throw it out into the universe. Much love!
I Really Trust you but.. now that i Realize it's so Unfair: Did we all been Scammed by Sony? Basically, if you buy a new console in the 3 first years it means that it was a prototype and you are destined to lose your PS5... wtf
I had the same problem, a thorough cleaning and laying it horizontal stopped it completely for me. I never got a msg saying it was hot either, but since I took it apart to clean it and changed the position, fan barely has to run at all
I had an issue w my ps5. It hard locked up on 100% of ps5 games. All ps4 games were fine. Cod vanguard, cod cold war, miles morales, and wrc 9 all caused this crash I believe it is from standing the console on its side. I am a believer of that story about using the console vertically causes your ps5 to break
Honestly just remove both stock faceplates. You can easily do that to ensure maximum airflow and heat reduction. Once every couple weeks just take the hose of your vacuum and clean any dust by gently running it along all sides of your system paying particular attention to the fan locations. Sure, it doesn't look pretty without the faceplates, but it's super effective.
I guess I'm good because when my ps5 isn't working it goes back into the box and it only works twice a year but I should check it since I've had it for 4 years
I take all the preventative measures I can to prevent issues. I take my fan out every 3 months and clean all the dust. I also do a quick wipe down of my console and the cabinet it sits on every time before I turn it on. Stays pretty clean. My house isn’t super dusty like my old place tho. Also no pets or smoking
It’s it hard to take the fan out? I clean my PS5, but I have never taken out the fan. It gives me anxiety thinking about it, but I have noticed dust build up. I’ve had my PS5 1 year so far. I’ll have to take the fan out eventually I know.
@@Brandon_N420 no not at all. Get some needle nose pliers and just go easy & slow. Grab the connector from the sides and wiggle back n forth lightly as you pull up. Take your time.
I think getting people to disconnect their fans with that tiny little plastic connector will cause more problems than it will fix. That little plastic plug is very brittle especially after it ages. It's not meant to be taken apart 12 times a year as you are suggesting. But to each their own. I've had my PS5 since launch and cleaned it for the first time yesterday. In a Dusty room with pets. It sits vertical and has the entire time. I have not had an issue yet nor any overheating. It was barely even Dusty. Maybe I'm lucky but still I've never had to take any console apart like you are here. To be fair though if I was having overheating problems I would definitely consider taking a part and thoroughly cleaning the machine but if you have to do that once a month just to keep it running there is something else wrong. It's not the Dust. These things are meant to run with some dust. I personally think it might be Sony trying to save money and going with a smaller heat sink and maybe those are the machines having a problem overheating with these newer games. Developers are now starting to push the hardware. But I say tear apart your PS5 at your own risk. If you are not having any problems with it I would not take the fan out.
Hello ya’ll practical solutions here: All you need is an everyday fan with some good power pointed at a side ways profile. I’ve worked with computers and gaming systems for over 20 years and the fans for these systems are notoriously lacking power and size. As long as you have a fan blowing the hot air away from ur consoles you’ll be absolutely fine. But to be very honest if you’ve been letting your pc cook over even a few months to a year, I can guarantee some permanent damage. I have a feeling they do this so you have to buy another one or experience low performance over time. You can avoid performance tanking by simply cooling your ps5 from day 1 out the box.
Day 1 purchase, loud fan version, casual use. Mine keeps powering off/overheating/no warning/trips breaker. This is playing Elden Ring DLC in a (just bought) 55.” TCL QLED in Game Mode. Dialed back ps5 settings and happened after 5 minutes. No Game Mode, response time is slow. Only thing that seems to help is blasting a fan at the HDMI/PS area.
well i took my ps5 apart and realized i didn’t have the right TORX screwdriver. instead of a T8 torx screwdriver you need a TR8 torx screwdriver. the difference is the TR8 has a small circular hole in the middle of it. don’t make the same mistake i did, get that TR8 ready!
I’ve had mine 1 year, this June was a year for me & I do clean it often but I’ve never taken the fan out. I just take off the plates and wipe it down. It’s running perfectly, I do know I’m going to have to take the fan out some day tho.
@jimjam_the_wong_and_only1942 whenever I've had to dust off my PS5, I noticed that dust never really gets in too deep. Sure, my plates will have dust inside, but the real culprit for me has been the vents. Mine is a launch day model, and I've only cleaned it when I noticed the noise. Once I wipe, the noise disappears, and my console is quiet again.
Once a month is a bit extreme, unless you live in a desert or your PS5 is on the floor I would say every six months to a year is probably okay depending on your area of placement for a PS5
Your videos should be official on playstation youtube channel and other midia platforms. Simple, short and very educating and direct to the point. Very good.
Really? All he does is makes up fake problems to get views he's been going on the most about liquid metal leak even though there is a zero percent chance of it leaking unless it has been removed and 're installed incorrectly I really can't understand why this man wants people to take there ps5 apart so much it's funny he's called himself glasscock and people still take him seriously lol
Sony still won’t admit that there’s cooling issues with the ps5, it’s even more laughable that they reduced the heatsinks with each iteration. Buy a slim and there’s half as much heat sinks as the original model.
@@dan98221you are absolutely wrong, mine got sent out and back to Sony because of that and had never been cracked open. It happened again in less than a year at which point I opened it myself. Try and remember that personal experience isn’t a general experience. Clown
Very much looking forward to that video regarding the power supply vents! I know mine are dusty but I just can't reach very well, I have tried it with some longer brushes which did remove some of the dust on one side. Since then I haven't had any issues with overheating even when it's very hot outside, so I know it helps. It's just a matter of time before it happens again so I would like to clean it completely.
I really like your channel and have been following you for a while, but there are two huge mistakes in this video that no make sense: 1 - The PS5 in horizontal position makes no difference, and it has already been proven. After all, the console was designed to be in a vertical position. 2 - Performance mode - this has nothing to do with temperature. Even though the CPU won't be pushed to deliver graphics, it will be to deliver double the frames per second.
It has been proven that keeping your system horizontal is better. Not sure where you're getting your info but almost every source says keep it horizontal
Hardware experts from console repair shops are telling a different story: According to 68Logic, a PlayStation scene member who owns a hardware repair shop in France since 2010, using your PS5 vertically can damage it permanently, and he’s seen the result first hand with his clients’ consoles. Apparently the seal around the cooling material over the chip can degrade and it can leak away causing the system to overheat. Whereas lying flat keeps it in place, and that's why ppl are finding this solution clears up the overheating problem.
Heat generated in Performance mode vs Quality Mode really is game dependent.... But is most cases Quality Mode offers more headroom for the system, due to the 30 fps cap.
I believe horizontal with the stock plates just takes in less dust. Which is the goal of the video to avoid heat buildup. Trapped dust is really the big culprit here. Otherwise you're right that the orientation makes no difference in temperatures in its own.
I haven't cleaned my ps5 in almost 2 years that's when I bought it and I keep the system next to a wall, I play roughly 3-4 hours and I've never experienced overheating 😊
@@dmo848 just take it apart my man. It's so easy. I've cleaned mine every few months since release day. Still gets dirty in that time. Dust bunnies galore.
I live in a really dusty area, so I got an idea to just staple some pieces of bubble wrap to together to form a sleeve like cover. If you have your ps5 in the vertical position you can just slide it on and off with ease. Just don’t forget to take it off when you turn it on to play.
Just deep cleaned my PS5 And it still turns my room into a got damn sauna🔥🔥. Gonna do the power method next time. Next video: 'How your PS5 could induce epileptic seizures at any moment when yo eyes closed & how to fix'. Take care ps5 peeps
I only use my PS5 for exclusives so I’ve never had issues over heating but I play my series X a LOT and that system is set up so nice to keep it from over heating! I’ve literally put 14 plus hours of gaming multiple days in a row and have never had over heating problems!!
@@gamingbytetv665 There are more games out there than exclusives... By the way: I have both consoles, a Series X and PS5 digital. This year I have rarely played on the PS5 cause there are no exclusives - and that's why I have that Playstation. Sony done nothing this year, that's also part of the truth.
Try vacuuming ur ps5 and the cooling fan after unscrewing it with the t8 (no need to unplug the wires) not once a month like this guy says like 2-3 times a year is 👍
Never stand you ps5 up vertically without the stand or vertically period. It restricts air flow. I just bought my second ps5 I’m pretty sure my first one suffered heat sync damage. So avoid that
@@jeriah4k218 really? Why does Sony say it's designed to work either way? Other than to have us break them intentionally so we can fork out another $600 for them.. but surely that couldn't the case lol
I really like your channel, it has helped me. Luckily, I haven't delt with overheating and I've had my PS5 for a little over a year. I bought a cooling fan system that instead of blowing air into it, it sucks the air out. So all that hot air is just getting sucked out and pushed out the back of the cooling system.

I haven’t had any problems with my ps5 until like the previous week and now it has just shut down twice so it’s honestly kind of concerning that this showed up for me to watch but at the same time helpful😂
⛔️READ⛔️ Me and my friends have all been getting overheating problems on old and new PS5‘s. After taking it apart we all discovered the same thing: the liquid metal was completely uneven. After respreading it the PS5 was back to normal, even after intense performance testing the cooler was as quiet as on day 1. For MOST of you guys, you do not need to clean your ps5 if it’s visually clean (no signs of dust accumulation). You also do not need any external products. The PS5 is easily capable of running high-end games on maximum graphics but the LIQUID METAL FLAW is significant. Legal action needs to be taken since we are very sure this is the main problem for all the overheating issues. Sony did answer but they do not care and offered a $300 repair after sending them the pictures.
Its a known thing that using Liquid Metal Cooling was a massive design over-sight but thats nothing that can be sued over since Sony was very open about the systems specs. Since it was first announced people were critical of the Liquid Metal cooling and how outdated it was and the amount of issues it would cause later down the line.
My system is less than 6 months old. I play it horizontally. I prefer it that way. I also don't have pets and I think that helps quite a bit. I do plan to clean out the fan pretty soon. I've had no issues while playing final fantasy 16 I guess I've just feeling lucky.
I have a stand with a built in cooling fan and a dust cover over the the smooth front plate. That seems fine so far. And I keep it in a vertical position.
I take off the panels and clean them and the fan area every couple of months (usually when I see dust collecting on the intakes) never actually taken the fan apart for fear of breaking the console
The Power Supply irradiates too much heat, they should revisit the build and isolate it with an independent fan so the grills at the bottom only vent out hot air from it, the tiny honeycomb window is not sufficient to keep it from reaching over 60C. Thats why systems usually turn off after 2-3 hours at 28C. If they add a 7.5cm fan as intake from one of the sides that would solve all overheating problems not related to liquid metal dry up.
1. Mesh screens from Amazon 2. custom covers with fan holes for more breathable air circulating 3. WD MM2 ssd with heat sink 4. MM2 ssd vented holes with screen cover that covers the mm2 card. Amazon 5. bottom fans under ps5 extracts air. amazon 6. Back of ps5 3 fans extracting air from ps5 7. keep your area the ps5 is in clean and dust free. I game all day long no hickups no glitches no kick outs no lags straight pure work horse I Love my PS5 fully updated and upgraded
Clearing the system cache and rebuilding the database does nothing for the thermals, only do that if you notice any lag or problems with how the system is performing
@@kakarot4243 you do but it's a minor inconvenience & does limit the dust build up. Also the covers are usually water proof, so could protect from accidental spills
I clean mine at least once a year, did that with the OG launch day ps4 and never had an issue. Doing ghe exact same thing with my ps5 now too. All you really need to do is get all the dust off from the vents the ps5 plates inside and out and clean the fans and heatsink and youre all good. Just make sure its dusted off often and in a dust free area and you wont have to do it so often
My PS5 doesn't overheat, but the LAN will disconnect when the back side gets hot. I have gotten around this by putting a desk fan pointed directly upwards next to the heat vents. It moves the hot air from the vents away from the connections to prevent them from warming up.
Once a month cleaning? Ive never had to do that with an xbox. My xbox's have all worked fine years of many extended gaming sessions without having to open thrm up. This is the nail in the coffin for me, boys. Having to constantly clean the thing is too much of a pain in the butt
I've only had my PS5 since August, but it hasn't had this issue. Maybe because it's horizontal and in a relatively open space, but I feel like if you need to clean the fans once a month, you need to start with dusting the space the console is in. If you keep the place pretty clean, I don't think you should have too many issues.
I never received a warning saying my ps5 is getting to hot, it will just randomly shut off and I will have to unplug the cable, is this same cause? Would love someone else’s insight (:
Had my PS5 since launch and never cleaned the insides once I always wipe the PS5 down with a dust cloth and the area ..but i do not keep my PS5 in a closed area its open and standing tall ready to play out some hardcore games ..all fist bumps to my PS5 brothas 👊🏽
I've had a PS5 for 4 months now and I haven't cleaned it once. It turned off on its own once and then I wasn't sure if it was because of the settings or because it was really overheating, which was almost impossible since I just got it and was just downloading some games. I have it vertically next to my TV with only a few centimeters between it and the wall and lots of cables. A few times I felt if a lot of hot air came out, which was not the case and I don't really see much dust from the outside either. I had no issues with the PS4 Pro either. The PS4 is known for blowing really hard, and I've had it in a small case for 5 years. It was only after those 5 years that it started blowing concerningly hard and failing when loading advanced games which are also for the PS5. Then I cleaned it for the first time and there wasn't even that much dust in it. So I think people with a PS5 that overheats must have a lot of dust on their desk or something like that.
I just had a my PS 5 over heat while playing FF XVI. I placed a small desk fan in front of the PS5 which has always been on it’s side and kept playing the game. I then cleaned it the next day before playing again.
Im not taking it apart because im not skilled with stuff like that ill def end up breaking my ps5....all i do is keep my place clean an i use that heavy duty dust swiffer an i run that all over the ps5 an all in the vents
You are right and it's not your fault, but you actually have to keep in mind that your PS5 will not last longer if you'll not clean it proprely (at least once every season) I've never cleaned by PS4 and, in fact, it did broke in 4 years
Dude my old PS5 digital was overheating on Destiny 2 & Eafc24 had it 2& half years sold it.. The new PS5 slim is a beast digital edition works like a Swiss clock ⌚
I reckon they purposely make the vent smaller allowing for dust build up so ur forced to take the warranty sticker off and thus removing any claims u may try and make. Hope everyone experiencing this issue resolves it without any issues though!!
I have the dark plates that have the cover cut out for the fans to run better because they are better ventilated. Poor design on Sony to cover the fans like that.
You should clean it out have a professional do it with compressed air dust could be getting in the fan That's the issue. It happened to my PlayStation 4.
This vid helped a lot because I got a new PS5 so now I know how to stop it from overheating thanks for taking time out of your day to make vids like this for us.
I've never experienced overheating in the near 2 and half years I've had mine in a vertical position. It is still good to know these things, like making sure that I not only learn, but know that the source is there for any reference.
That's a really good way to look at this. So many people are either saying shit like "I've never had a problem, i dont give a fuck". Or " if you don't take it apart and clean it every day, you deserve to have it overheat!!!" While you're just like "it's good to know just in case".
@brandonbarlow6122 it's good to know just in case you don't take care of your shit or if it's in a very dusty place, beyond that this isn't necessary to know
Holding the button until it blinks twice turns it off, not enters safe mode. Should iterate that the PS5 needs to be off THEN hold until you hear the second beep.
'one per month'. I think by that he means general dusting. Everyone should be doing that at least. Vacuum your room etc. For open cleaning you only need to do it maybe once a year
The last option might’ve saved me from spend 150 dollars just to get it fixed, I’ll find out if I have anymore overheating for the rest of this month if it did actually work, thanks so much man
Hi, i'm an engineer and i'll give you a good tip on how to prevent overheating and how ive done it. Ive placed 3 fans on the back of the ps5 (where the ports hdmi and usb are), they suck the hot air from the ps5 vents and release it outward fast. Just do it on your own, these pre-made fans with usb post don't work well. 3 fans, high speed. A little noisy but your ps5 will stay cool and won't shut down, also, you want to keep your ps5 horizontally, always. Keeping clean the ps5 is obviously a must.
My PS5 never over heated I’m not sure why yours over heated ever I don’t do what everyone does I never had problems ever in my life with any other consoles it’s how you treat your consoles that would make them overheat
I've never cleaned my PS5 (except for the vacumming every few months on the outside vents) and it works perfectly after almost two years. I've never opened a PS console to clean it, I've done the same for all my previous consoles (PS2-PS5) that still work with no problems. Sure, there may be tons of dust inside, but I guess it's better not to see that 😂
This is a horrible mentality to have. Just because your console isn't having issues doesn't mean you're not making it prone to them. You don't clean your console because there's a problem, you clean them to maintain them and help prevent the possibility of a problem. However John saying once a month in this video is way too often.
@@TheViper4Life It worked for me for over 20 years for 4 different consoles. The whole 'cleaning consoles' thing is exaggerated. I wipe the dust off and vacuum it, and that's it. A much worse scenario is when console isn't placed in well ventilated space. Things like that are vital and are actually written in manuals that come with such devices. A basic consumer should never open/partially dismantle the console in order to maintain it. It's never really suggested in manuals, or even allowed
@@InDy4962 Of course it's not suggested, they want you to neglect your console so that it does break down and you buy another one. Being a more conscientious consumer and taking care of your electronics, so that they last longer...ESPECIALLY nowadays when things absolutely are not built to last...is never a bad thing. They don't want us to know how to do this stuff, they don't want us to know how to break down our consoles or replace thermal paste if need be because they want you to spend more money. It's definitely not exaggerated, you're just lucky your neglect hasn't backfired on you yet...it's extremely well documented at this point that people who do what you do, end up with consoles that shit the bed more often than not. It's not some conspiracy theory, it's WHY people got more knowledgeable to how to do these things.
@@TheViper4LifeI've had almost every console for the last 20+ years as well and never once did any sort of maintenance. Theyve all run perfectly fine even with heavy usage. Gaming is meant to be an escape from the routine chores of life; it shouldn't add to them. I think you're somewhat of a mixture between OCD & paranoid. Like it's not that serious 😂 Lastly Ps5 has the worst design I've ever seen, wtf were they thinking. Hideous too
@@SSID94 Again, this isn't something to brag about just because you've gotten lucky. You're just afraid to open up a console and do a little non-evasive work so you make an excuse like you're some kind of hero because you haven't had any problems even though you're not in the majority, whereas I guarantee if you open one of your older consoles it'd thank you for cleaning out the dust and prolonging its life. It isn't some chore to do this once or twice a YEAR...no one is tell you to do it every week like you're mowing the lawn. Having this knowledge is only going to help you...people like you acting like I'm some psychopath is absolutely ridiculous.
Same story over and over again i mean how many videos have you made recommending those things to prevent overheating. Ive tried all of those things and my ps5 keeps crashing games. Btw my ps5 is less than a month old so something is clearly wrong with the console
I just opened mine first time since purchasing it on release day almost no dust if your PS5 insides look like the one in this 1:26 , you need to clean your house first
Yup this is why I’m glad I wasn’t the first to buy this thing! I just decided to wait 2 years later and enjoy my PS4 Pro and let Sony work out all the issues and now it’s on the shelf and I can pick one up anytime I wish.
Needing to do frequent critical cleaning of a PS5 seems like a critical design flaw. I've seen PS4's in absolutely dusty ass homes that never needed cleaning. Since when should consoles more than rarely require critical cleaning of any kind? I've never had to clean any console extensively, usually just a good rub with wipes every few months was fine and the console's ventilation was designed in such a way where it rarely required such cleaning.

You don’t need to clean your system once a month!!! once every six months or year depending on if you live in a dusty location or if you have pets.
Wrong...
exactly what i do, ever since i got it every six months i hit it with compressed air and works fine
@yamyam1978 Yes, yes you are!
That’s true, and as long as you’re not a smoker nor having anyone smoking inside the house then you’re all good. I personally have a dust cover on mine, it was around $20 off of Amazon where it goes over the middle portion of the console while simultaneously allowing the same amount of airflow.
@@lakerskid2013 Well, obviously that's different...
We're talking about a natural scenario 👍
Its important to keep your system clean and ventilated of course but it shouldnt require you to take the system apart to prevent it from overheating on certain games. That would be unacceptable from a design perspective if it required you to disassemble the fan every year to prevent certain games from over heating the system. The system should be able to handle some dust build up and compensate with the fan speed accordingly.
Yes i agree
It is able to handle some dust build up, but it's more of trying to prevent an excessive build up of dust that would cause any electronic to overheat
I can’t play no man’s sky without my ps5 overheating):
I don't have these problems. My PS5 stands vertically I just blow out air vents with an air can periodically
Hard disagree. This is something that should be done with any electronic that has an air intake. Like everything else in the world, these degrade over time and simple maintenance can keep it running longer. Doesn't take much time or effort to do.
note: if you’re taking the fan out, you’re going to need a Torx T9 Screwdriver (with the circle cutout on the bit)
I have spent thousands and thousands on tools in the last couple years and that is one set of tools I don't have. It is only money, right?
T8 also works
If it has a pin in the middle of the bolt you need a t9 security bit
T10 doesnt work😕
It's called a security torx
Taking the cover off and removing a fan to clean it every month is an insane maintenance schedule. I've had my PS5 nearly a year now and I've never taken the cover off. I also shouldn't have to. At most, Sony should build them with removable filters that slide out without removing the case side, and those should get cleaned or replaced every 6 months or less often.
"I shouldn't have to clean my property"
You got sexted by the bot 😅
Good advice brother thank you! 🙏🏽
does it really matter tho which way u have it as long as it has good airflow
I've cleaned my, this week, vertical since the launch week... just a little bit dust. It's in open place, good airflow. yes I have a cat, and I live in a very high floor apartment.
It doesn’t matter and if you have to do all this for it don’t buy it and they wouldn’t be saleing it if it had same problem as ps4

Your area?? 💀
I keep mine in the horizontal position on a media cabinet shelf that actually has a lot of space around the console. It seems to collect very little dust anywhere other than the white panel. That panel design is great at generally shielding the vents from dust fall.
The intake is where mine gets dusty as shit.
Same mine never gets hot but also clean it once a month, it's easy to clean
space is key🤩
Dat louvered air flow doe
That would be smart IF dust fell, but dust floats and it floats up and down and left to right. It floats diagonally as well, so there is no difference between dust in either position.
I paid over $300 for ps4 and never did any of this. Make it make sense.
Was thinking the same had no issues with mine
Yea, ps4 was clearly better designed and optimised. Now, the games are so heavy on the cpu.
@@Boss94silvadepends on model PlayStation you had because some of those models have slightly bigger fans in the base model ones
same bro ive had my ps4 for 9 years now and its still working to a good extent, idk if i shud get a ps5 as everyones on about the overheating issue, which is something i dont like.
when you think about it, the jet engine does last longer than the ps5 without maintenence... well every number is a step in the future, maybe ps6 will fix these problems and we'll get more problems too
Here's a crazy thought maybe sony you should make a better system. Charging $600 for a system and then telling people they need to take it apart and clean it once a month is insane. Saying it's overheating cuz you're playing PS5 games on a PS5 is also insane that's what it's for. That's like saying your TV will overheat if you watch it
Nah bro, maybe you shouldn't believe everything you see online. A simple vacuuming of the openings every month is good enough.
The problem is people are idiots who can’t look after their stuff, and therefore don’t deserve it.
@@gamingbytetv665You a moron? Does Sony advertise their console as needs to be cleaned once every couple of months?

Did you take it apart all the way to the power supply or just the fan. I recently cleaned my cooling fan, and my console is in a well ventilated area and it still randomly shuts off
This is how mine is, I'm betting there's a factory defect for early units.
Just give the vents and area a hoover once a week, keeps it clean and isn’t difficult to maintain
Dude was about to say the same thing I had my PS4 for 6 maybe 7 years and it never over heated I would dust the vents and wipe it down clean do same to my 5 only time I ever taken the shell off was to install my m.2
I’ve had my PS five for about a year and a half now I’ve never had that problem but then again, I take a aerosol can to my consul once a week
I also keep mine very well ventilated
Huh i mean I wasn't always getting overheating issues with the same HDD plugged in but maybe that is the issue

Much love!

Thank you so much, i placed my playstation horizontaly, and now it worked perfectly without overheating and turning off automaticaly
You should use compressed air, vacuums generate static and that can cause partial ESD to circuit boards.
Why the FUCK would anyone do that?
Clean your PS5 all 6-12 Months, depends on your house how dusty it is, smoke, hair, pets etc

I've done loads, they're never brittle....
yes mine won't stay connected now and fan won't run 😢
Hello ya’ll practical solutions here:
All you need is an everyday fan with some good power pointed at a side ways profile.

Vertical is better
@@Brandon_N420 so what about using vacuum to clean the dust out?, never?
@jimjam_the_wong_and_only1942 whenever I've had to dust off my PS5, I noticed that dust never really gets in too deep. Sure, my plates will have dust inside, but the real culprit for me has been the vents. Mine is a launch day model, and I've only cleaned it when I noticed the noise. Once I wipe, the noise disappears, and my console is quiet again.
Once a month is a bit extreme, unless you live in a desert or your PS5 is on the floor I would say every six months to a year is probably okay depending on your area of placement for a PS5
The desert part killed me😂😂😂😂
But I do live in a desert

I really like your channel and have been following you for a while, but there are two huge mistakes in this video that no make sense:
1 - The PS5 in horizontal position makes no difference, and it has already been proven. After all, the console was designed to be in a vertical position.
2 - Performance mode - this has nothing to do with temperature. Even though the CPU won't be pushed to deliver graphics, it will be to deliver double the frames per second.
The title is clickbaity too!
It has been proven that keeping your system horizontal is better. Not sure where you're getting your info but almost every source says keep it horizontal
Hardware experts from console repair shops are telling a different story:
According to 68Logic, a PlayStation scene member who owns a hardware repair shop in France since 2010, using your PS5 vertically can damage it permanently, and he’s seen the result first hand with his clients’ consoles.

Me and my friends have all been getting overheating problems on old and new PS5‘s.
1. Mesh screens from Amazon
2. custom covers with fan holes for more breathable air circulating
3. WD MM2 ssd with heat sink

My PS5 doesn't overheat, but the LAN will disconnect when the back side gets hot.

The reason the horizontal placement helps is because the liquid metal leaks to 1 side which makes the cooler conduct less heat

I've only had my PS5 since August, but it hasn't had this issue. Maybe because it's horizontal and in a relatively open space, but I feel like if you need to clean the fans once a month, you need to start with dusting the space the console is in.
I think i've been lucky mine never gets hot just warm. I do clean it like you recommend. TY for tips.
