Stereo Headset Adapter EXPLAINED (Xbox One)

  • A detailed explanation of the different button functions on the face of the "Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter." This small device snaps into the base of your controller & provides both game & chat audio to your headset. This video will show you how to balance both game & chat audio as well as fix the annoying "doubled game sound" issue.
    IMPORTANT UPDATE: If you own a newer Xbox One controller with an already built in 3.5mm audio jack you don't need this adapter as everything the adapter does is already built into your controller! Simply plug your earphones into your controller, double-tap the home button and scroll down to your settings "gear" icon to modify your volume options. Hope this helps! :)

    5 years later and finally found a video explaining everything. For years I had to have the chat volume on my mixamp all the way up just to hear my friends talk, at a cost to the surround sound quality of the game. For a while I thought it was my outdated gen 1 tech not working with the Xbox One. I wish the instructions on the adapter came with such clear explanations. Thank you for making this.

    I'm so horribly annoyed they changed the 2.5mm jack ONLY to sell these stupid adapters. Especially since the mixamp does game/chat EQ anyway. Good explanation though!

    I was wondering if you might help me solve a pesky audio issue I've been running into while livestream that (I think) has something to do with the adapter shown in this video. I was livestreaming this past Friday and got no issues of any kind with the audio then over the weekend, I started noticing that the party chat in the livestream had a reverb or very fast echo to it but my mic input (blue yeti) was just fine. I'm not entirely sure if it was the party chat doing the reverb thing or the entire livestream audio but I welcome you to be the judge and just give me your honest feedback on what you think the issue is. I'm pretty convinced I hit a button or some setting with the party chat that is causing this problem. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Just watch my most recent livestream Go to about 46:00 mins for the best example if you need to see/hear the issue. As an FYI I'm using an ElGato HD and XSplit gamecaster. Thank you in advance.

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your detailed question. You did not link your live-stream directly in any way so I unfortunately cannot view it. I know what a reverb sounds like, however and there are a few things that might be causing it.
      1) Make sure everything (console, controller WITH the adapter plugged in, computer, computer software, ect) is updated to the latest running version. Can't do anything until that's done.
      2) Do not use batteries/battery-pack in your controller. If you use a USB cable to plug in your controller (which you should) it powers your controller too. No need to use batteries of any kind.
      3) Open the guide on your Xbox One then scroll down to "settings" but don't press "A" yet. Just look at what options the menu provides you. If you do see several different volume "slider bars" then the bottom one must be set all the way to the left (off). You likely won't see these sliders, so if you can't see them don't worry about it.
      4) Go to your Xbox One settings and then to "Display & sound" then "Volume." Experiment with the "Party chat output" settings and see if you're getting the same results using different options.
      I wish I knew how to help you beyond those tips man. I'd have to see your setup to really help out. Hope these tips work for you.

      nat great, probably a bit late, but it depends on the headset and controller. if your controller has the 3,5mm jack built it, then no, but if it doesnt then you do unless its an xbox one basic headset. if your headset as its own volume controls then you wont need it either if you can plug it straight into the controller

    good video, few questions:
    can i use my cheap laptop dual 3.5 mm headset, one of the plus is pink for mic and the other is green for stereo, on this adapter to hear both the game and use the mic on my headset? i didnt see the adapters ports.
    also, how does your headset accept to audio inputs at the same time? is it due to it being 5.1 compatible and you are using it in 2 x 2 channel mode, albeit it you have turned the game sound down on the controller adapter.

    • @jasonbrown467
      @jasonbrown467 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      a bit off topic, but its still seeking info on how these head sets work in general as i may buy a good headset for my xbox one and toss the entire setup into my gaems vanguard case . ok I am not a huge online pc gamer, although i have 2 gaming rigs i just never got too much into using the mics and such, but anyways in the past my friends made me use a headset for mic and chat listening and frequently chat wasn't necessarily done through the game its self say for example we used team speak. so in this scenario i could use 2 channels for game sound, left and right, and another channel for mic and another for chat listening? normally i would use my computers speakers for game sound and headset for chat, but'd prefer to run it all to the headset, is this at least partially why you have multiple inputs on your headset as an option?

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Answer to 1st comment: Chat and game audio can be carried through the same 3.5mm cord. To get your pink and green headphone ends to work plug into this SINGLE-port audio device, you will need a small adapter cord that takes the pink and green wires and turns them into a single male 3.5mm jack. This will allow you to use BOTH chat and game audio with your headset.
      How can my headphones accept two audio inputs at the same time? Actually it can accept 3+. This is due to the phenomenal Astro A40 Mixamp Pro. It's insane. You can plug so many things into it. So useful for gaming/computer/streaming/recording. I also use the Astro A40 headset (I can't recommend a better audio setup for gaming on a console). And yes, I have the game sound turned all the way down on the Xbox One's controller audio adapter. I get my game's sound (7.1 surround) by plugging an optical cable into the back of my console and running it to my mixamp.
      Answer to 2'nd comment: Bottom line dude, the Astro A40 headset+mixamp rocks because it does everything you just mentioned and more. The wire that comes directly out of my headset and plugs into my mixamp doesn't just carry the game AND chat sound, it carries the chat from MY mic as well. It does everything, man. Seriously, here you go: www.astrogaming.com/a40-headset/A40-HEADSET-ASTRO-GEN2-XB1.html

    If I have an old wired headset, do you have any idea if it will work with the new xb1 controller now that there is a 3.5mm jack? I had to use splitters in order to get the game sound through the headset instead of the tv, but the xb1 does not use these red, yellow, white cables (etc). It's a turtle beach dx11 btw.

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Moonsorrow No, you won't be able to use such a headset. Needs to be on with a 3.5mm jack.

    • @4evrEpic
      @4evrEpic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Moonsorrow Just buy a cheap adaptor on Amazon that converts the end(s) of your cable from you headset to 3.5mm. Make sure your adaptor is mic compatible (has 3 rings on the metal part instead of just 2). It shouldn't cost more than $6 if you do a lil research.

    I have the turtle beach x rays for the 360, I was just wondering if I NEED the transmitter to hear game sound. or do I just have to buy a 2.5 to 3.5 cable and plug them into the headset and to the adapter

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adrian Galvez If your Xbox One controller does not come with a 3.5mm jack built in (most new ones now do), then yes you'll need this adapter to hear game sound.

    Hi I I bought a headset that has a 3.5 jack and so my controller.It had an inline adapter but I only can turn up both chat and game volume at the same time. Is there any way I can turn one up at a time or would I have to buy this btw I have the Kama.

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +An Antan Yes, there is. I'm assuming your controller has a 3.5mm jack already built in (hard to tell from your message). If that is the case then you can alter the equilibrium between game and voice sound in your "settings" menu in the quick-guide on the Xbox One (double-tap the home button to bring it up). Play with those settings a bit more and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

    Thanks for the video. I have a similar setup to yours where I have a legacy Mixamp Pro. Do I even need the chat adapter if I have a controller with the 3.5mm jack? Off-topic...I've been thinking of updating to the newest Mixamp Pro TR or A50 wireless...any thoughts on that? Would it be worth the upgrade from my dated equipment?

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% worth upgrading to the newest A50 wireless. Godlike headset as long as you are using the right EQ presets (I've had mine for years and the battery is still a beast on one charge). No, you don't need the chat adapter if you have a controller with a 3.5mm jack. The best part about the new Astro A50s? No wire to your controller. You literally just plug the base-station directly into your console and your Xbox will "read" the base-station as a device and automatically send the chat audio to your headset without the need for the extra cable plugged into your controller. So nice.

    Great video it was very informative! Im looking to purchase an xbox one soon and this is exactly what I need! I mostly play in the evenings so having game audio though the controller is perfect.
    I have a quick question though, Since this can output only in stereo is there any audio quality drop? I only have stereo headphones so I'm not too concerned about stereo output only.
    In addition can you also use this while using the Xbox for things other than gaming? Can i still stream audio through the controller while watching movies/netflix/TV? Thanks.

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, there is no detectable audio drop that I could tell. While it will likely use your controller batteries faster, the Xbox One controller will automatically turn off its rumble feature to conserve power for as long as possible. Brand new batteries last a long time even with the adapter plugged in. No worries there.
      As far as your second question goes, all audio from your Xbox One can be played through the adapter to a headset. No limitations on what apps you can use with it (unlike plugging in a USB computer keyboard).

    I have Tritton Kunai headset for Xbox one and the game volume audio is reversed. So in other words if Im playing COD and I hear someone shooting on my right side but they will actually be on my left side and same I hear someone on the left side of my headset and look that way in game but the guy will actually be on my right side. It is extremely frustrating would you know anything about this on how I could fix it?

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drew Limebeer Being 100% honest: I have never heard of this issue before. I would try plugging in other headsets to your adapter and seeing if you can get them to also "repeat" this bug. Check your audio connections plugged into your TV. When you run the game volume out of your TV speakers does it ALSO do this switching sound glitch?

    Hey genesis, so i have TB x32's, ok. Now, my wireless receiver does not work with XB One, i would have to use a TV with RCA out and an HDMI, but i have a monitor so i can't do that. Now my question is this: Since the adapter also sends game audio out, as well as chat audio out, do you think i can get away with turning my wireless wifi audio unit off?

    • @GenesisRider
      @GenesisRider  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can plug your headset directly into the Xbox One adapter (shown in this video) then yes, game audio should work. Problem is (if I'm not mistaken) the Turtle Beach X32 headset is wireless & no cord plugs into the headset itself. If there is no cord, you cannot connect the headset directly to the adapter. The wireless broadcaster box would likely not work with the adapter either.
      Update: Just did some research. The Turtle Beach X32 does not work with the Xbox One. This is literally a quote from an Xbox LIVE ambassador: "It looks like that headset will not be compatible with the Xbox One console. If you have a headset with Optical In, you can use that for game sound, but you will need an adapter to use it for chat."
      I would HIGHLY recommend saving up for the incredible new lineup of Astro A40 headsets available. This is what you need to buy. Hands down. Period: www.astrogaming.com/a40-headset/A40-HEADSET-ASTRO-GEN2-XB1.html

    • @GenesisRider

      Grey Kitten Correct. However, you will use BOTH the Mixamp Pro (to hear game volume) AND this chat adapter (to hear game chat). You will plug up the adapter to the chat port on the front of your mixamp pro (has a white controller icon beside the port).
