it sounds the same even if you don't have the mix amp! just makes it wireless, never knew that!! more freedom i guess.
it doesn't sound the same. it only outputs stereo sound, whereas the mix amp gives it 7.1 dolby digital surround sound and your eq modes
Any 2.5mm will work if you plug it into the included 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable
BUT 3.5mm plugged directly into the adapter will only work if your mic/headset is CTIA standard. Many are OMTP (ground and mic reversed) and while you will hear everything, the mic won't work. You need an OMTP to CTIA adapter from ebay if your headset mic doesn't work and you are using the 3.5mm cable directly.
Also most other 2.5mm to 3.5mm converters won't work (output in OMTP), so don't lose the cable that comes with the adapter.

I have the same MixAmp and when I go to game chat I can't hear anyone AND it won't pick up my mic. Party chat works fine

Please respond (this has nothing to do with the video,) I'm trying to find a answer to see if the ant lion mod mic 4.0 and a headphones. If you have a headphone and microphone adapter to the 3.5 mm, and plug it into the headphone adapter for the xb1 will it work?

Hey , do you know if the TB PX22's will work by only plugging in the 3.5 jack into the adapter or would you have to plug in a RCA cable or HDMI to the back of a TV? great video btw ,you've earned a new sub!
Thanks for subscribing! Means a lot! As for the TB PX22's working with the adapter: I assume so. All the wiring should be the same/very similar to what I have in the video. Haven't used Turtle Beaches though. Hopefully that helped.
***** okay thanks , I've been looking into the Razer megalodons and I seem to have hit a problem, I need a female USB to a male 3.5 jack ,and then if it doesn't work I'll have to buy a male 3.5 OPTM to a male 3.5 CTIA. The reason being is that the adapter only accepts CTIA 3.5 jacks and not OPTM which is used by a lot of headsets sadly..than is for replying too!

My girlfriend is trying to use the Gen 1 Astro 40's without the Mix Amp. She has the Stereo Adapter. What size is the wire that she needs to use to plug into the Stereo Adapter? I know the Stereo Adapter is 3.5mm, but what size is the Astro's port? She has Gen 1, so is that size also 3.5mm? Will she need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable?
So you don't need the mix amp if you don't want to use it because of the adapter
The headset has a 3.5mm connector and the adapter is 2.5mm, so I think you're gonna need another adapter or just use the MixAmp.
Since the controller is wireless and if you plug in the headphones does it still give out game sound?

Would you recommend buying the astro a40s and an xbox one chat adapter or just buy the xbox one version of the a40s and get the mix amp pro separately?
I literally just bought an adapter and the piece of shit doesn't even work. When I plugged it in there wasn't even an update so I restarted my Xbox then there was an update. I updated it and the shit still doesn't work. When I press buttons is doesn't light up it doesn't turn on. Wasted $25 on this piece of shit.

Hey, thanks for this tutorial. I've set it all up with my old Astros and done the updates and I can speak to and hear people, but people have been telling me they can hear themselves echoing back when they speak.
Is that something you might have experienced as well, or have any input on? I can't seem to find any solutions or ideas through searches I've done. Thanks again.

wth I didn't get a 2.5mm cable with my a40's?? I tried buying one but it just creates a massive hissing feedback noise and nobody can hear me. Why didnt I get a 2.5mm cable?
I'm not sure, man. I know that the hissing sound may be because the adapter is very finicky, so you need to be sure it is very firmly connected. Not sure about not getting the 2.5mm cable.
I have tritton triggers and they use red/white cables for sound. Can I still use this headset?
You should be able to use most headsets with this adapter.

Hmm... I know that the adapter is pretty sensitive. Try making sure it is plugged in all the way, both the adapter and your wires. It's happened to me before and I just had to make sure all connections were tight.
is it possible to listen to music through the headset while you are in a private chat, so you can hear both the music and people talking to you?
Tibor Kurtovic As a matter of fact, it is possible! There is a port on the mix amp for mp3. Simply plug in the wire to the mix amp and phone (or other music device) and listen while you play. Another way to make this work is have the USB cable for the mix amp to be plugged into your computer. That way you can play music from there while also getting sound through the optical cable/chat cord from the xbox. :)

why do you need the stereo headset adaptor when game audio comes from the xbox? can it not plug directly into the controller without that adaptor?

Its because I already have a Turtle Beach Headset that came with the adapter. I was just wondering if it would work since its the same thing sort of (could be wrong). In case it didn't, then I would have to buy the adapter from Microsoft.

I honestly don't know what to tell you man. Make sure everything is plugged in correctly and that you shut off "use kinect as mic" I think.

xXRBDomnationXx I believe you need the wired charger for the controller. You might be able to just update without plugging it in. It's been a while so I can't remember.

You still need to have the Xbox Headset Adapter regardless of which headset it is.
No I have the headset adapter but I'm talking about the converter like the 2.5mm-3.5mm converter, everything works except for my mic because of the jack being different for the adapter itself,
You use the 2.5mm to 2.5mm wire and plug that into the 2.5mm to 3.5mm wire that came with the adapter.
Hey man I'm using the turtle beach xo sevens. The headset is plugged into the mix amp and the controller adapter plugged into the mic for the mix amp but the mic doesn't seem to be working . I can hear my self through the headset but as for on xbox it's not working . Don't suppose you know what's happened. Cheers in advance
You may need to update the controller on the console. Not sure, to be honest.
I have the Razer kraken for Xbox one but the mic doesn't work :( I bought a mix amp but not the Astro headset and still doesn't work:( I'm still using the Razer kraken adapter and a 2.5mm to a 3.5mm adapter from the mix amp to the controller :( if I buy the Astro headset will it work ?
+cнαz I would assume so. Astro products should work with other Astro products.
+cнαz Most headsets work with the MixAmp so just make sure you do some research before buying something expensive which will later turn out to be a waste of money.

How does this work with a capture card like elgato?
In the Elgato software there is an option to select the audio input device for livestreaming/recording. Simply choose the headset and you're good to go!

I think I might know what your problem is. On the adapter there should be a little picture of a mic. Press that and then keep pressing the "+" button to increase chat volume. Hopefully that fixes the issue!

***** That's what I was saying to do. :P Not too sure what to do about the in-game voice twice. Make sure everything is completely plugged in, and mess around with the settings on the adapter to increase the chat volume and lower the game volume.

You need to buy a 2.5 mm male to 2.5 mm male aux cable. Then you need to buy a 3.5 male to 2.5 female adapter cable. This is CRUCIAL: the 3.5 mm jack needs to be 4-pole. In other words, it needs to have 4 distinct portions to it. Or if you look at it, you'll see it has 3 black bands. So when you get the adapter cable, look how many bands the jack has. If 3, then you're good. It also goes by the term '4-pole' as I mentioned earlier. I'm not positive whether or not you need a 4-pole for the 2.5 mm male to 2.5 mm male but I think it'll work with a 3-pole (2 black bands)
Does all of the sound that would normally be output through the TV go to the headset like netflix or youtube, or is it only game and chat audio.

As long as you have the chat adapter everything should work fine.

I believe you need to press the game volume button and lower it all the way, then press the chat volume button and increase it all the way. Hopefully that helps!

Scyin No worries! Mine was the one that works for Xbox/PS3/PC. But it also works on Xbox One with the adapter.

Hey question, The current setup I have is Xbox one, Astro mix amp, Happauge HD PVR2 capture card, OBS and turtle beaches. I am able to get everything to my stream including music from PC, game sound, my voice and team mates voices but I am now getting the 3 second delay sound that my capture card or OBS is picking up. I have my turtle beaches plugged straight into the mix amp and if I turn down the capture card sound, it fixes the issue but now it mutes the game and chat volume that goes to my stream. Basically im hearing everything correctly through my headset, but then get the echo of what im hearing 3 seconds later from the capture card. Is there a way to mute what my capture card or OBS picks up, in my ear BUT still allow it to go to stream?
I believe the reason for this is because capture cards naturally have a delay when relaying the information from the console to the computer, so you may need to offset your voice in OBS. If it seems like everything is in sync, go to your computer's sound settings and mute the PVR software. Hopefully this helps!

It could be possible that it's something on his end. I would recommend that you make sure your mic isn't muted and that you make sure everything is plugged in all the way. Hopefully this works.
***** Game audio comes through the Xbox with the Optical Cable. Chat I believe technically comes through controller.

Ian Warda Hey, the only thing I can think of would be to make sure your mic isn't muted, make sure you don't have the Kinect set as your mic. If that doesn't work, I would say ask Astro when they are back at work.
Ian Warda I'm not completely sure how the red light on the Kinect works, but sometimes my Kinect will be my mic if my controller shuts off. Double check everything, make sure all wires are plugged in correctly, make sure mic isn't muted. Also make sure the adapter is plugged in all the way. It can be slightly out without realizing it.

I have the optical wire that came with my MixAmp. I believe you need it to hear the game quality in great quality. They come with the bundle when you buy the Astro A40 with MixAmp.

I don't think the optical cable would affect it. I'd say make sure everything is plugged in all the way.
My monitor that I play Xbox on doesn't have inbuilt speakers. So to actually get audio output, could I use this adapter and plug in some headphones?
+Lkz HD You don't need to plug the headset audio cords into the TV. Just from the Xbox to the controller/headset. Hope this helps.
