  • Actually a lot discussed in this video. BUT I really didn't "flush" out the topic to completion so added another follow on video which might be even better. BUT this was more "narrow" focused to show HOW one of these Stihl style case tools is used to split cases and the subsequent video discusses them for case assembly vs. where this video is focused, disassembly. BIG subject, and I wasn't as well organized as I would have liked but cover a LOT of ground with this one.

    Great information, I just received the Stihl splitter in the mail. Now, with your help, I know how to split my cases on my 036 pro build. Thanks for your help.

    Walt, here I am, another evening several hours deep into your videos. I am a total noob, but between your videos, Mathew Olson and Ironhorse chainsaws, I have successfully rebuilt my husky 266 completely. New bearings, seals, P&C (big bore, new intake block, bigger carb and base gasket delete. I'm kinda chicken to put a dremel into that brand new meteor cylinder but do want to figure out how to split the muffler, remove the baffle and let 'er breath better. Thank you, sir!

    Yeah, seemed pretty intuitive how to use it to pull, once you showed how to push. Glad I bought both when they were cheaper. Thank you for all the hard work you have done.

    No, it is not going to build a torque around that case just because it is attached to the bar studs. What happens is the locating pin at the rear is further away from the crankshaft, where you are pushing. So the torque is built around the locating pin at the rear. While the locating pin at the front is closer to the crankshaft and comes out easier.

    Another good video, these are handy tools I have the one you showed and the one with the discs for the flywheel side the only downside to that one being if you haven’t got the repair manual for the saw you are there for a while working out which holes in the disk to use.

    I have that Stihl tool. When I used it to pull the crank true the bearing, the bearing in the case got a little bit dislocated (moved with the crank some millimeter). Noticed it when i was about to mount the chain oiler to the casing. Used the chain oiler to push the bearing back in place (little bit risky, only two 4mm bolts on that chain oiler).

    Very handy tool! What distance are you keeping the crank lobs off the inside of the 660 cases about 35 thousands?

    Thanks Walt for doing these video's. So that tool should work on the Husky 357's?

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just have to match the threads and I don't know what the clutch side threads are on a 357. So...maybe. My tools certainly cover the flywheel side as 357's have the 8mm x 1 on the flywheel side and I have a tap for those. Have to say check out the case fitting tools sold through HLSupply for around 40 bucks delivered for the different Husqvarna models. That's probably the cheapest and most effective option available for 357/359. Might have to ask for the specific ones for the 359, but they are available

    Walt, did you drive out the alignment pins before you split the case? Getting those out may help with the torque you speak about.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No really don't have a punch that would do that. SO rubber hammer :)

    If I order a Holzfforma 660 which parts do you recommend being prepared to replace before using it. Do you recommend a modified muffler, what oil mix do you recommend for running it on a mill?
    Thanks for your time.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have to watch one of my later video's....I can't remember where it all ended up with them. Things like bar studs, decomps, choke/throttle related controls were a must. The cases, bearings and seals have proven solid over time. For milling...might consider a different bar oil pump as well. Possibly a better top end.

    Best tool for a one time job splitting and reassembling an 036 along with new bearings and seals?

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      probably , pretty cheap and can do the final "squeeze"

    Are you saying you sell tools? I need the puller for the starter side, I have the splitter/assemble for PTO side.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did and do from time to time when I have the shop time to build them. Haven't this year. For me the best option for ANY Husqvarna is just going to HLSupply or eBay and buy the OEM puller sets for the different saws. My tools really are about bringing that level of convenience to the Stihl world.

    This has probably been mentioned but stihl recommends removing the locator pins before splitting the case

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A waste of time as the cases come apart with no strain or pain either way

    • @callumparkinson3320
      @callumparkinson3320 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      afleetcommand I have seen cases split out around that locator pin if not removed. I can send some pics if you like

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do as u wish, Understand the need for idiot proof technique, If the generic "Stihl" bar stud mounted device was used, it would add a lot more twist than my Husqvarna inspired crank mounted pullers....so I suspect I could replicate a situation, but to be honest would take a less then observant type to allow the cases to be that far out of alignment.. BUT you wouldn't be the first to suggest additional layers of process to these type of things..And certainly wouldn't hurt any thing to drive out those pins first.

    • @callumparkinson3320
      @callumparkinson3320 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      afleetcommand the points you make are very valid. The locator pin isn’t a problem for someone like you who is aware. However people who may not have ever split a case may think it is Normal and screw up there cases. I still love your videos and they have helped me so much to grow my saw skills
