I'm not nor have ever been a chainsaw bloke, and I stumbled upon your channel by chance. I never thought that watching some one tinker with chainsaws could be so therapeutically satisfying. Thanks Tinman.
I overpaid $350 for a " low hour" 026 with a scored piston and cylinder, it was the best purchase I ever made, it got me into a great hobby and learned new skills
@@alexstromberg7696 got me for a hundred it a 029...lol made it a beast of a 039, itvwas trash shes been rocking them highway skf, meteor, highway ect....got a pipe and pulls 25 inch full house, was my first build and unthinkable oooh a clamshell ranch saw...no it was trashed for example the vent for fuel ubenounced to me was a oil filter and so on, scored to death, I completely re did it, adjusted it(timing) now it's a nice little 64.sum saw
I am building a 576xp right now, I just used 1/2 allthread a few 1/2" nuts and 2 1/2 all thread rod couplers. screw all thread all the way into the coupling nuts, put 2 nuts on the rod exposed. cut it to a length that fits between the case in 2 separate spots preferable 180 degrees out from each other. then just use 2 cresent wrenches turning the all thread out of the coupling nut. pushes it right apart. put one piece where muffler sits and other where handle and gas tank run on back side.
Mung-what a descriptive name for that stuff. Loved the video will be following this build. The 90 plus saws I don’t really need, but they sure are fun to run:).
Awesome job, love the fact that you admit your not a know it all, and your spot on, when you admit you don't know, your opening your mind to learn. Can't wait to see it run. Stay safe and God bless
I really want a 044 to build and or port either way 044s are gold, I'm not a big man and my body is tore up the 461s with the 32s and 6s are just getting to be too much to wield all day long now adays
Hey buddy I'm sure you know this, but figured I would put it out there. Usually when I have bolt heads full if stuff I will put the tip of my blow gun right up to the head and it usually cleans the heads right out. If need be scratch at a little first with a pick. Anytime I tap the bit in, it really packs that stuff in and makes it tough to get out. Just figured I'd throw it out there. Really enjoy the videos buddy!
Very exciting project! I have a NIB 395 XP yet to be used. Purchased years ago on a good deal. Not exactly sure how that saw compares to the 394? I've heard they both oil really well! 💪👍
I have a Solo 681 completely torn down - case gasket was bad and it was letting oil from the chain reserve leak into the crank case. I need to replace its clutch as one of its springs was broken, but I'm unable to find a source. Would it be possible to use someone else's clutch on this machine?
Hi Tinnman!!😀😀 Looks like somebody that ran the 394 used drain oil for bar lub in order to get that amount of gunk in the tank. Hope she is a screamer when you are done with her. Take care my friend!! Logger Al
Interesting, my old friend the saw man wouldn’t do bottom ends if they were shot he tossed them. He always used a pressure washer to clean parts . Works well nontoxic, the costumers couldn’t believe it was there saw so clean
I wish I found this video after I hammer split opened my Stihl MS341 😅 well, it happened, not sure if the case body is still good cause I hammered that one. It didn't open so I took a bad nut to screw it a bit to the crankshaft flywheel side and hammered it down and it split apart. Anyway, it's my experience I guess will check tomorrow if the thing is still good
Informative video. I have one question. I have a 2100 crankshaft, that is broken on the flywheel side, but has a good connecting rod, and I have another good crank with a broken rod. Have you ever pressed the crank apart to repair or replace a rod with a bad bottom end?
Tinman do you ever or have you ever tried the ceramic bearings? They say they are good for 30,000 rpm and give the saw 500 more rpm plus run cooler etc. The cost is the only factor a set of bearings for a MS461 Stihl is around $100-120.00 compared to SKF bearings.
Hey tenman please answer this question if u got time but in the late 90ds what saw would keep up with loving not hot saw. I have a husq 45 husq 55 and they have been great saws for a long time with me. But I tried a brand new 261 c Stilth chainsawsnd it was a dog in bucking wood with it. Excuse me sir, may I ask, if the damaged piston is from a Japanese chainsaw, I will replace it with a piston from china, and the same size, is that okay sir?
Basically the same saw.. the 395 is newer epa version of the 394. Difference is cylinder, carb boot instead of block and air filter system. Transfer ports are different aswell..
@@codyroger9581 what modifications can be done to a 395 carb to bring it back (so to speak) to pre EPA? I.e. drilling the venturi, drilling the jet. Are there some tricks?
..split a crankcase?..three sharp wood chisels..drive one in the bottom at the split, one at the split on top of the oil tank, and one at the top rear of the crankcase..drive each one alternately about 1/8" at a time, until you can pry the crankcase apart...believe it or not, I have actually seen this done before.. :0 ....not a pretty sight!...
Hi Friend is it possible to send the puller thumb print to make new one at my place. Here this type puller not available if you can do a favour to make one thanks
