I have to say I did British and European history at Oxford and in comparison with Oxford professors, prof Somadewa can be placed on top with his analytical knowledge. I am loving this great programme and made me learn wonderful Sri Lanka history. NB also enjoy occasional humour by Nuwan. This is one of the best TH-cam programs.

I happen to visit the History Museum of Wuttemburg in Stuttgart, Germany and one thing that caught I my attention was that Sri Lanka being depicted larger that it truely is in almost almost of the very old painted maps and globes. If the reasoning here is true, Sri Lanka should have been very important to Germans and Europeans those days.
Hi Professor, Just a small note on the size of Sri Lanka on some ancient maps; One reason being the comprehension (lack thereof) as the geography was not “measured” by any physical standard. Often the size of certain geography was ascertained with the information available through stories from traders and explorers. More trading happened and eye-witness accounts available, a larger the area would assume. As an example, we hear a lot about the prosperity of Singapore, being one of the largest seaports in Asia, a garden country, cleanliness, high GDP and the pleasures in Sentosa island. However, until you are there, you would not have realized the country is this small really, one day at most to go around the country, and your picture of Singapore in your head would have been much bigger before visiting. On the other hand, even today, with all the technology we possess, the common world-map (Mercator projection) we see does not represent true sizes of areas either. It inflates the size of areas away from the equator. Example, Greenland and Russia among other are relatively much bigger on the map than they really are. This is an effect of Earth being a globe, and we have to draw it in a flat surface using various types of workarounds.
Actually you don't have to answer all the questions or reply to all comments here, Nuwan's intervene is much needed becuase he represents us the audiences. He is the moderator and the conductor, he would ask the very same question which raises in our mind during discussions with professor.
