    I've ordered 2 guns a NVE and a R500 I've watch many of the reviews which agree with your review, I got the NVE for a clear and candy only gun and the R500 for base coat, I have 4 gti pros I use for primer a 1.8 for 2k high fill and 3x 1.3 for acrylic's but I've never was happy with them, I run a 17cfm compressor I've got some Iwatas that need a lot of air, I'm repainting my car but I make guitars these days and do 50 to 60 a year I use a lot of pearls and candies, I'm looking forward to try the NVE

    Hi Pete. Interested to see what you think of the astro. Garage noise has a few vids on them. I never popped on one. I have a few budget friendly guns and they all seem to spray the same. My favorites as of now are my aeropro r500 and my flg5. I spent a little on the flg5 but to be honest it sprays about the same. I wouldn't hesitate buying another r500. Very good for the money. Always wanted to try the kiwami4 but ive never popped on one because Im afraid I'd be disapointed in performance vs cost. I just bought a used lph400 lv4 1.3 off ebay. We'll see if i like it. Always wanted to try the tulip tip and see how it sprays. I hope it patterns nice and keeps overspray down. Cheers

      Hi buddy, I have two Astro guns, and I must admit they are pretty good, including the build quality.
      The FLG5 is a good workhorse, which I still have. The performance is ok and ideal for most forms of painting.
      Imo the Kiwami4 is a step up from the FLG5 and the R500, although we are talking small increases, not huge as none of these are bad guns 👍

    Pete, an experienced painter starts off with a recommended pressure setting and makes final adjustments before and during painting, fact is I setup and then make adjustments as needed. This is true with any gun as thinners and temperatures do effect the spraying. I find the copies do a really good job once set correctly.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi buddy, yes, I would agree. These do paint quite well, although they aren't as good as the original. They are considerably better than the Gti Pro Lite copies imo.
      I run this NVE when I use it at 2 bar most of the time with clear coats and a little less with solvent basecoat. It obviously depends on a lot of things as to how this works for people, but it's certainly where I would advise someone to start, cheers mate, appreciate it 👍

      I've had good results with GTI copy as well, not as good as the originals but lets face it for the $$ they are good. I have 3 Devilbiss and 2 copies. I love the SRI Pro, both OE and copy. :) @@peteshobbies5383

      Yea but there is a major difference when you spray 8psi to 12psi with the real DV1 compared to 30psi to 35psi with a copy. Any professional painter including me does not settle when it comes to equipment for doing professional grade work for people. Besides, NO ONE SHOULD BE GIVING CHINA MONEY. So, the real thing is 3 times more money, well its 3 times better and will last much longer and you will not be funding a country trying to destroy your country's economy 🤷‍♂️

    • @biggysground
      @biggysground 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why the objective reply? I'm not advocating one over the other, fact is I hardly ever look at the spray gun's line pressure during spraying and I used guns before the gauges started being used on guns. I always adjust by spray pattern and the amount of spray. I even sprayed hanging upside down on aircraft and have 50' hose fed spray heads, your reply pissed me off and I doubt your experience exceeds mine.@@HPAcustomriflesandcerakote

      Hi James, for the price, they are ok, although longevity would always be questionable if they are used a lot, like the R500, sprays ok but every time I clean it the trigger sticks so it needs lubricate, not well sealed I guess, cheers buddy 👍

    Wow! I'm impressed! The fan pattern on that is pretty wide and soft while still putting out a decent amount considering you're using a HS clear. Imagine how it would perform with a MS clear. It laid down the base and clear with good atomization also. What do you think the of the air and fluid consumption? Is it pretty efficient or a hog?
    Another great review, and I look forward to the Astro EuroHE. I have one, albeit I have better.
    Keep up the great videos, Pete! ❤

      Hi Boss, Yes, I was surprised how good it was. It is obviously not as good as the original, but it's 1/6 of the cost.
      Pattern was good, even and as wet as someone could want, I estimate it uses around 10cfm so not really an air hog in this day and age where everything that comes out seems to use more air than the one it replaced.
      I didn't want it to be as good as it was, but I can only say as I find, appreciate the comments as always buddy, thank you 👍

  • @danamcintyre3565

    GTI copy is ok at 25-30 psi and 2 1/2 - 3 turns out dose good for the price ? You can get great results if you can ajust to what the gun needs.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi buddy, The Gti copy certainly puts out too much fluid for its cap to handle, so backing off the fluid certainly helps it.
      The prices these sell at now have come down, so they can be had for around 45 USD which represents reasonable value for money, the NVE is more expensive but imo it's definitely worth it, it just feels so much more refined, cheers mate, appreciate the comments 👍

      Although, this may be personal error... This is why i commented, to get advice :)
      When laying down the metallic basecoat, i backed up 8-9 inches from panel, and the metallics layed lovely... But on clear coat, i think i may have automatically just stayed at that same distance too...
      Could that be the cause of the orange peel?
      I think it was just something that was embedded into my mind tbh.. I knew i had to back up from the panel a little for the metallics... So my brain automatically made me keep a distance on the clear coat too....

      @Ay_Ess Yes, almost certainly, you are right to back off on metallics, I spray the drop coat or final coat around 10 inches. Some also drop the pressure slightly, but distance has a similar effect.
      With clear you want to be around 6" from the panel, maybe 7" but not more, you will find it goes on much wetter, which will help it flow out more, also slowing down a little will help although if you are closer to the panel you probably won't need to, it a matter of reacting to what your seeing

      I'm really interested in the spray guns themselves and the differences between them, particularly when some manufacturers say there are differences between certain guns when there isn't.
      I remember years ago, my background is in power tools and machinery, a large German manufacturer had 2 power tools they were selling, one was industrial and 3 times the price of the other that was classed as domestic, appart from colour, they were exactly the same, so, I've always been sceptical over a manufacturers claims.

    Hi Pete, when I first saw this was up mate I thought this isn't a new video as I have that very gun on my gun rack😎😂 but I do agree that this gun is more user friendly than the GTI copy as that is a bit of a beast in fact I was using that (Your) gun this morning for clear and put the Kapci 6050 though it at full fan and full fluid and man does it chuck it out but I still managed to get a dry spot on the panel🤠
    I'll be using your NVE tomorrow with the same clear but I will try your settings this time, I think I said when I posted it up that this gun is quite good for it's price🤔
    Anyway you did a fantastic job on this one mate it looks superb it laid the base and clear flawlessly so much that I don't think you would get a better finish from the real DV1👌I loved the colour as well mate it really looks nice on the tank👏👍

      I would guess it's around 11 cfm, so it's not loads but more than some

      Pete. Thank you for your reply.
      What can you suggest for a low cfm spray gun?
      I'm asking because It's only my hobby, and i like to learn and do myself.
      My compressor is 11cfm and I don't want to break the bank.
      Thank you.

      Something like the R500 would be ok. It's cheap, and it sprays quite well . Although it uses twice the amount of air they claim, it's still around 8 cfm, so it should be within your compressor

      @peteshobbies5383 thank you Pete. I did some search about R500. And now i make my decision.

    Did you really just warm paint up in a microwave 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi buddy, yes, I did 😊, certainly not recommended as I sure it's not something you should do, but I do.
      I used to just do it for a clear coat, but these days, I do it for everything in the cooler weather. It's also handy for warming up me tea 🍵, cheers, mate 👍

    did you actually microwave that paint? I've never heard of that and it looks completely hack and wrong. I can't trust someone that does that

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi buddy, yes, I did microwave the paint, I do it with clear coat and primer as well.
      I do normally add, and I believe in this video I did, that it's not recommended, but it's what I do and works very well, particularly if it's cold.
      I do, and will continue to do, what works for me, just like you will do, and continue to do what works for you.
      I'm not sure what it has to do with trust though?

      People do the same with epoxy resin to thin it out.

      @@peteshobbies5383 took me awhile to formulate a response to this: I meal prep my food for the whole week using quart size plastic Ziplock bags. if I heat it too much the plastic bag melts in very specific spots, the heat is not even. urethane paint is like a plastic film. you are basically damaging the paint unevenly. I cannot imagine any paint manufacturer recommending you microwave paint. use hot water and put your paint can in it. you are not a master chemist, just use it how you're supposed to man. I experiment too but cmon, this is so utterly void of any common sense it's crazy as hell

      I think you hit the nail on the head, "if you heat it too much," you said, there my friend is your answer, simply dont heat it too much and you'll be fine, you won't believe me so we will have to agree to differ.
      BTW, I accidentally put 200ml of clear coat on for 1 minute instead of 10 seconds. It started to go to jelly, so too much is definitely not recommended . Cheers 👍

      @@peteshobbies5383 you're missing the point that how the microwave works is it heats it in a very specific spot. in order for you to get the whole paint you're using to the temperature you want it's damaging certain parts of the paint. I would totally disagree with this. heating the paint is a very good idea, but not like this, hot water would be better

    Compare to DV! this Gun need more pressure

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Louis, this gun performs very well at 2 bar, but the best finish is achieved around 2.1 to 2.2 bar, so 31 to 33 psi, good value for money though 👍

      Yea i spray clear with my Devilbiss DV1-C with original C-1 air cap and 1.2mm nozzle at 10psi for high solids clear. If using medium solids production or universal clear i use the 1.3mm nozzle and spray at 8psi. Thats a major difference

      @user-un5my5bw4j Hi William, that's really low pressure, I've not tried it at that pressure but will give it a go one time to see how it goes 👍

      @mxshredder925 Hi Mate, Yes, it's the same thread as the Devilbiss Tekna Gti Pro Lite and DV1, so it's a Number 3, PPS1 = 16033 and PPS2 = 26033, cheers 👍
