      Kinda wonder if they could make the pricing reasonable by getting rid of the “bells and whistles “? Consider that the MHs and T5s we’re replacing are simply tuned to 20k or so and are controlled with a simple on/off timer. After all, once you have a look you like, I can’t see using the cellphone app or playing with the eight separate channels at all. Just give me a g30 tuned to 20k that works with a ramp timer and which doesn’t break the bank!

    I have a 72 inch 26 inch deep 30 in tall tank it would cost me way to much to buy these over 1000 a piece for the 30s. My MH/FL combo might cost a bit in power but these LEDs would take a long time to pay themselves back. If the fuses or LEDs didnt give after awhile then they wouldnt pay themselves back. However I'd like to say thank you for the informative video!

    Ecotech customer service has so far been pretty poor. I bought an expensive ecotech radion xr30 gen 5 pro brand new because I thought I was buying a quality product out of the box. I had expensive sps coral needing a high quality light. I set the whole frickin new light up on my tank and spent all the time to get the cables managed well and mounted neatly only to find the light was not working at all. This was a brand new light and Ecotech made it extremely difficult for me to get the light fixed. So now I have a light with potential other problems in it and scratches on it from when the technician was trying to fix the light. This in my opinion is horrible customer service. This company does not look after its customers

      The XR15 typically does best over a 24" x 24" area, so for your tank, it would be a great option. The only thing to mention is that because all of the light will come from a single source, you'll want to be mindful of your SPS' growth patterns for long term success.

  • @sunnygoold9449
    @sunnygoold9449 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    amazing but I don't get why so much light is needed - like you would only need 2 XR15s on a 4ft LPS tank and 3 XR15s on SPS (or maybe 2xXR30s if you want really high PAR. Usually BRS tells you exactly what you need but this is overkill - 3 XR30s is like 6 Kessils.
    Ok so this is for the XR30 and you need to spread them out - I get that and I guess some people have the money but for me a lot of reefers are going to look at this and ask "why are the lights 2x the price of anything else for a 2x2 tank" and the answer is that there is really 2x the light. This throws all the recommendations out for most reefers. Can't wait to see the XR15 guide - I think that will be more realistic. On a 3x2 tank I think one XR30 would make a super clean and cost effective light - so everyone says they are expensive but this way they are probably the best option out there.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can totally agree that our reasoning for using three fixtures may not have came through very clearly. As we can see from the data, certainly in that first 1-3yrs or so of a SPS dominated type of tank (I mean sticks everywhere)..two fixtures would seemingly get the job done. It's further down the road and age of the tank where our recommendation for a 3rd light comes into play, when the colonies are so big that shading and shadowing become more of a concern.
      I don't doubt that when we circle back to the XR15s, we will really start to see the value in using multiple fixtures to achieve similar PAR goals for our SPS example which will also most likely come with a lower price point to get there. ;)

    • @sunnygoold9449
      @sunnygoold9449 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BRStv Yeah - I get what you are trying to say. I watch all your videos and you guys consistently come at it from the perspective of providing the best value for reefers (and reefers that see value in different ways). I just think this video goes against that. I forget the exact numbers but I think LPS was down at 25% to provide the right levels of light. I think a lot of reefers are going to say that's a 75% waste. The information is super valuable but I think that's the loudest and it's inconsistent with everything you guys stand for.
      But I do see these new lights as the best value for money lights on the market - and I understood that from your video but I had to draw links. Like because the spread is so even you don't have to turn the light down because of 1 hotspot. You could say for an LPS tank you'd only really need 2 XR15s. Like an XR15 is equivalent to a Kessil. The XR30 is really specifically designed for SPS growers who want high PAR (over 500) it seems but if you want spread - even for SPS in the 200-350 Par range on a 4ft tank I think 3 x XR15s should be perfect.
      And I think you missed the opportunity to say "on a tank deeper front to back than 2' which is becoming super popular this XR30 really is the perfect light.
      The only reason I am making the comment is because I love what you guys do.
      Can't wait for the XR15 vids

      Get two of the XR15's instead. This will be able to support softies, LPS, and maybe some lower light SPS like monti caps. If you decide to get into SPS like acros in the future, you can always consider a hybrid kit. A single XR30 won't be able to cover a 48" long tank.

If there is any way you could rent or borrow a PAR meter for a day and adjust your light for your specific tank goal, that would be the best path to success for sure!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically, if you want to skip over the "how we got there" part of the testing and jump straight to the recommended settings you could just focus on the last section of the testing where we change the overall intensity to meet those SPS PAR goals.
      Each of the tests build on themselves until we get to the end of the video with recommendations for spectrum settings and intensity settings to meet those 200-350 PAR goals. To find the recommended mounting height we set all channels to 100% MAX. By the time we get to the end of the video you'll see that each channel is set differently to achieve a desired spectrum (color) and the entire intensity output is lowered in order to hit those 200-350 PAR ranges.

    I have an elos 70 system, would one of these will cover 30”x21” footprint for mixed sps/lps tank and using the single rms mount that will be about 10” of the water?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For that footprint, you'll be better off with two XR15's instead of the single XR30.

    my tank is 32" long, 24" wide, and 24" deep. It seems like I am flirting with 1 or 2 of these fixtures for a mixed reef. Could I get by with 1 fixture?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the 32" length, you're probably going to be better off with two smaller fixtures vs one larger fixture. Two XR15's would be a great choice for a mixed reef of this size.

    So ultimately can you set the Pro to the exact spectrum and par as the Blue is out of the box? Is the Blue just a subset of the Pro? In a nutshell does the Pro give a wider range of spectrum and par compared to the Blue, but still the ability to set it to the Radion Blue if thats what you desire?
    If that is the case then why would you limit yourself with the Blue, especially at the same price point?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pro is capable of the same spectrum as the Blue, but with more white LEDs mixed in. The goal was to create a light that looked similar to a metal halide bulb.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly the PAR data shows that you can. Years down the road when the SPS have grown into large mature colonies, that's when we're more concerned about light coming from all directions to reduce shading. I think we'll learn a lot about the XR15 capabilities when we test them in the next couple of months. They might wind up being the ideal choice.

      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, these pack a powerful punch just like their predecessors the G4 and G3. In all fairness for all tests we conducted except for target PAR range testing, these were set to all channels at max which 95% of users won't do. Actually if we look at the capabilities of these XR30s and where we landed on intensity settings for our BRS Recommended spectrum, I'm willing to bet that when we circle around to the XR15 testing we're really going to see a benefit in spread and output using multiple (less costly) fixtures to achieve our same goals for LPS and SPS.
