      XR15 Pro. No real cost benefit from going with the XR30s and muliple XR15s allow better spread. Being an old school reefer, I'm not as enamored with the super blue look that seems to be all the rage these days. A lot of SPS corals were grown under 6500K iwasakis.

    I'm building a new canopy for my tank this weekend to be able to fit these lights. How many inches of clearance will I need above the tank to fit 2 G5 XR15 Pros with their mounting arm? The recommended light mounting height is 9" above the water, but how much taller should I allow for the mounting arm/fan air cooling room from the roof of the canopy?

    What is the height with the RMS mounts? Also for a 36” SPS tank would a single Gen 5 XR30 be better than two XR15’s?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The RMS tank mounts will end up with the light being roughly 8" from the water surface. A single XR30 isn't going to cut it over a 36" long tank. We'd suggest going with two XR15's instead so that you can space them out a little more.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This light is better suited for a max area of about 24" x 24". For a 20 long, consider using two smaller lights instead. For example, two AI Primes will get the job done nicely and give you better spread.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We usually suggest to run EcoTech's AB+ preset. In your case, running the fixture at about 75% intensity should be pretty darn close to ideal for softies and LPS in a tank of that size with a single XR15 G4 Pro

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be best to utilize a par meter, but making an educated guess based on tank size and using two XR15's, you're probably going to end up running them pretty close to 100% intensity for SPS.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're using the XR15, two fixtures will get the job done for the average mixed reef in a tank of that size. You may want to consider mounting the lights just an inch or two higher than we suggested in this video for slightly better spread from front to back. Since your tank is rather shallow, the decrease in par from doing this shouldn't be very much of a concern.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We haven't tested that particular tank size and it will depend on the types of corals that you want to keep. If I had to make an educated guess based on the data here, an intensity of about 50% should get you pretty close for LPS numbers, while I'd start out around 70% for SPS. Of course, using a par meter is going to be the best way to set your intensity with confidence.

      Generally speaking, we'll recommend one XR15 per each 2 feet of tank length. For your roughly 60 inch long tank, we'd go with three XR15's for an LPS tank. For an SPS dominant system, we suggest one XR15 per 1 foot of tank length. For your tank, this would mean five XR15's.

      Anthony Nicholson yes also do the pros if you want any white if you’re looking for all blue then go with the blues I think the pro is the way to go it gives you an additional white color you can still have blue if you want. I actually have adjusted to liking more blue than white which I thought it would be the opposite but anyways I went with the pros I’m happy

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With LED tanks looking more visually blue than most of their T5 and MH counterparts, that might be a reason why they look dimmer to your eye even when the par values are similar.

    • @ironmanmachine
      @ironmanmachine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. LEDs have a much tighter spectral spread per diode color, and reef leds are tailored towards photosynthetic ranges, heavily leaning towards the blue end because the red end doesn't look as good and can grow nuisance algae. Our eyes see brightness in the green and red spectrums, so in short, leds do look dimmer.
