- This is it, the final piece of the puzzle to this 135g MODE Aquariums build is light! This week we install the much anticipated Ecotech Marine Radion XR15 G5 Pro to the system. I went through the typical struggle of Pro vs. Blue, and ultimately went with Pro for it's versatility in color spectrum as well as the [tiny bit of] extra power. I am very happy with the outcome!

I know people are hatin on the free stuff, but let's be happy for him. He has created content that we enjoy and keep returning to see. He also got a big boost when he posted his series of videos of his 20 gallon budget reef tank. He is bein rewarded for his work, creativity, and effort. There are other people out there with way bigger handouts that are less deserving. If he wasnt being supported with equipment, the new content would probabaly be limited. Just my view on it. 🤷🏻♂️

For those who do not have sponsorship deals or a spare couple of grand, one of your friends when it comes to power control (poor mans feed mode) is a wlan powerbar. You don't have the switch on after X minutes functionality (suggest clock app timer to remind you to restart everything) but they can save a lot of hassle or bending down. Many can also set up refugium light timer as well.
My power bar is on WiFi too and works with Alexa. Each outlet can be named, set on auto timers, and turned off and on by voice. Good advice.

Free stuff is always good. May be ecotech should stop giving free stuff ans just reduce their prices so lot more people can afford their gear.

When it comes to lights-diffusers or guards- get down on the floor where your child will be and look up-just because it is safe to look at from your height or in a chair-there may be eye straining glare for someone on floor or in a carrier/stroller.
I bought the g5 blue. I just got it a few days ago. I love it!
I was thinking of using 3 XR15 Pro G6's for my Red Sea 425 XL for a mixed reef. Some SPS up higher. Do you think this will be enough. Tank is 48" x 24" x 24 "

I’m setting up a simple 20 long with a pair of clowns and a couple anemone. Do you think one would have a large enough spread to cover the 30” length with only 12” depth and width?

Looks great mate, that power cable left hand side - maybe position that so it runs behind the light fitting and down the back of the tank, reckon that'll disguise it better?
I think what’s funnier is that his thumbnail is that of a dendro, which needs no light to grow.

Great content! Keep up the good work! You’ll probably need more pumps for flow when you get into sps. And might need to upgrade to the XR30 because your tank is a bit wider.
Good choice on the pros. I regret buying the blues. I miss being able to turn up the whites.

How come you didn’t put the cables going down the other end so it does not obstruct the viewing end? I have always thought it would be cool if Ecotech could somehow make there lights so you can daisy chain them so you just have one cable and one plug.
You know... let me see the cables are long enough to go down the other way and double back behind the tank. 👍 (daisy chaining would also be super cool)

Love your channel and I get why you accepted the sponsorship, you be silly not to accept free products. For me, the more a company does sponsorships, the more I avoid them like the plague. Part of the reason why I like to choose the non mainstream products. Let’s face it, most TH-cam’s reviews are sponsored and they don’t tell you. At least you were honest and upfront about it. At least with the new equipment, you can continue to keep us entertained with you new content. It’s a win/ Win situation. Keep pumping out those videos!

Just wanted to throw in some information, the tool you made with a string and weight is called a plumb bob. Ive used it many times in life to find a vertical reference line, yet i did not think to use it to hang my lights. (I feel silly now)
Are they worth it? Do you prefer Pro or Blue?
Get you a stud finder at your local hardware store. So you can anchor into the studs for more strength.
Your 135g tank looks awesome! I have a question though, are radion Gen 3 bases good for Bubble tips as I am starting a clown harem! Awesome video and live your videos

Looks almost exactly like t5! Shocked at how little shimmer. I dont like a lot of shimmer but agree that a little more would be better. The pop is insane though!

Congrats on the new gear and thanks as always for the interesting content--that is what has attracted your 54K plus followers and myself to your channel. However, I too understand the frustration of viewers and subscribers who decry the sponsored gear. We come for education and try to emulate, but when someone's reef tank includes the haul that you just added, it leaves a lot of us with questions about the applicability and validity of your advice for those of us who try to emulate and can't, due to the costs associated with what runs your tank vs what runs our tanks. Don't get me wrong because if I were in your shoes, I would have done the same thing, but as a family man, like you, watching your baby steps as your sought to balance resources with success in an entertaining way is (was?) one of your greatest appeals to your audience.

First of all they dont mind sitting and watching your youtubes that you did and would still do for free because of your love of the hobby and helping people! You are a kind soul and have done so much for this community and the countless hours you and sally spend making these videos so If you gat a little kick back in the way of reviewing their products! Then more power to you and you deserve it! IfPeople saying they should quit giving them away and they would be so expensive!!! Haha. Thats hysterical. This is just a general statement on many reefing channels now. They just seem like infomercials for companies and their products. I’m glad you guys have the tenacity to get free stuff, but at the same time you lose your authenticity. This channel, which I love, virtually the entire build is like NASCAR: Ecotech, Mode, the skimmer, etc. That’s great, but at the same time how the heck can I trust you? When you had your used 45g you were like me, making the best with what you had. Now, almost every week something new pops up and it’s sponsored. Once more, more power to you, but this has worn a bit thin for my taste.

I cannot speak for the other channels, for me, this new bigger tank build would not have happened if not for partnering up with companies. Even with the previous 150g build, the plan has always been there to partner up with companies for needed😅 gear and the reason is this: I am a family guy first, hobbyist second, and content creator third. If there is a way to reduce the cost of this hobby, I would consider in order to reserve this fund for my family vs. my hobby; I think this is something most dads could relate to. Sponsorship is one way for me to tackle larger builds in this hobby that I could not otherwise.
That said, the big question to you and me is how does this channel remain authentic? That is one thing that I struggle with each time a sponsorship opportunity comes along (there has been many). Ultimately, I decided that the best way to go about it would be going with companies that I have faith in and have soild reputation. I don't have a lot of tanks to experiment with, so I researched, asked questions, and only went with what I thought would fit best. Using this as a filter, I have been blessd with working with companies that are reputable and products that are solid. I don't recall having to pull any punches on product sentiments and I don't intend to!
Ultimately what I say does not matter - it is the action that shows the most. If you have enjoyed my journey as a hobbyist so far, why not hang out, watch what I do with the free stuff, hear what my experience has been, and see if the opinions I express overlap with what you have experienced, then draw your own conclusion on authenticity? I think this may be the best way! I mean, while NASCAR drivers drive cars with a bunch of logos, they are still race car drivers at heart right?
Side note - with the way Internet is these days, it was tempting to just leave critical comments alone, as everyone would have moved on and enjoyed the next piece of content that comes along. I respect you actually spending the time to express your view, and I thought giving a properly explained respond is only appropriate. I apologize if I talked too much, but as you know, I tend to ramble!

I asked the same question, and saw his response. I'd love to receive products for free, but where it becomes mildy infuriating, is how much TH-camrs say this product is the best, I'd never go to any other product. I really doubt if you reviewed the device negatively, that you'd get any additional products from that company.. just stay true to your reviews. Why didn't you try and get products from ghl, or maxspect?

I've been watching your channel for a couple of months now. And like every one else I've think that this channel is loosing is authentic nature everything is sponsored the dosing and lighting! I know how expensive everything is I'm also a family man one kid in college and another in private school. Everything in my tank from my apex to the lighting I've bought myself and sometimes we rely on people with honest opinions on the gears to make a decision on purchasing equipment, but when stuff is sponsored like you have is hard to trust you opinions because no matter what you are obligated to lean to the sponsored. I hope you don't loose your self with all this sponsorship.
Come on people, this is how our society works. You get stuff free because you have a social media "presence" and the hard work he has done. I watched his old stuff to actually get real good information of what is normally attainable to the normal people without a "presence". This is just entertainment at this point, when am I going to get radions and mp40s? Never. I am happy with my Aqua Knight and Jebao equipment. Our society rewards being known and for people that has done way, way less, look at the Kardashians, hell look at Trump. I watch his stuff because I love his wife's bantering him and with a hint of jealousy for the other stuff but he is good at entertaining. His old stuff is great though with solid content and I continue to watch it again when I hit a problem.

Another youtuber sellout . Oh how great Ecotech is blah blah, used them in all my setups ehhh you have used other lights. Sell your soul for free stuff and content. All the same, new builds encouraged by and paid by these companies. Next big supplier paycheck oh maxspect, coral box new light, iv always trusted this brand bull.

Im beginning to Unsubscribe to them. They are all talk, this is not a sales pitch but their reviews on equipment are not honest as they get paid through content ads, free stuff and actual money so they have not put their hand in their own pockets. They will never say this product is crap or a waste of money as the companies wont deal with them in the future. TH-cam is the new late night infomercial with "slightly" better paid actors
I think he does a good job of providing unique content, and he is pretty down to earth still. My favorite if his vids was the one where he travelled the street shops. I'd cut him a break on this one. The app is a big part of it.
@@nosumpreefing8287 i used to like it but when they sell out you know you cannot trust their opionion anymore. To get their "free stuff" in the terms and conditions is x amount of videos and use lights for certain period of time, with x amount of mentions etc. His videos are now more content for the sake of keeping his "free" stuff. Is he going to say these lights are poor, or that his many previous lights are on par etc etc no he wont. So he is no longer credible.

The power buttons are supposed to face forward. With the X15, they are square so you need to rotate the light so the power button is accessible. The cable should be in the back corner, to snake it in the cable track built in..... I would keep the lights off move the coral to another tank, or I predict a real ugly stage in that tanks future. NO corals, no light, slowly build your fish population. When your fish population is maxed...and the tank is able to keep up with the biolode, be realistic, then introduce coral. That way you don't have outbreaks of the uglies.....
