That solo Popple battle where Luigi whacks Mario with the hammer stick and Mario stumbles face-first into Popple (and the ground), defeating him, is absolutely the laugh I needed this morning 😂
That is good news, and something I didn't entirely see coming! I'd like to see them make a new title at some point, though, especially since Paper Mario's barely recognizable as an RPG nowadays. Thanks for the comment!
I'm planning to continue on with this. I have more footage already, and more ideas to get through in the future. I hope you'll enjoy anything else I make in the future.
You know what, I'm glad! I'm gonna have to give this a try as soon as it comes out so I can be ready. Maybe I'll even have a challenge for it...? We'll have to see what it's like!
The challenge isn't really hard, it's just painfully long. Unless there is a "timer" (like Mole Train in Bowser's Inside Story or King Bob-omb in Paper Jam), it will be possible in all the games. Or if they have a huge/constant heal like Beef Cloud in Dream Team. But it sure feels different compared to all the "No dodging" challenges.
That's what I was going for - something different from the "no dodge" challenges that had already been made that would still be possible. It ended up being a test of my dodging skill in the end, which is pretty fitting. I've got other stuff planned, so hopefully you'll stay tuned for that!
A good challenge would be have luigi always be at 1 hp and he can't dodge so he gets knocked out instantly during battle and mario has to carry him when evading attacks the entire time
I loved it too, although I didn't play and finish the last two games in the series. I have them, so I really should get around to it...Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video!
18:30 During the game over screen I noticed that the bros were only lv32 while fighting the final foe. I am *TRULY* impressed when you finally beat her soon afterwards. I was struggling to beat it normally at lv35 when borrowing one of my brother's save files. I also used the same file to fight and successfully defeat Lemmy at only lv22 (let's just say, my first success took a very Very VERY *VERY LONG TIME*)
Yeah, these games can be genuinely challenging if you don't fight enemies like you're expected to. I think the minimum level to finish the game is...26, if I remember correctly? Hopefully you did beat it eventually, and thanks for the comment!
fun fact: you can use a failed thunder bros to reduce the attack and defense of enemies, also for cackleta it would've helped to use the arms weakness i think
Oh yeah, I forgot the arms have weaknesses...As for the Thunder Bros. thing, though, I tried it and never got a defense drop when using no action commands. Maybe I just wasn't persistent enough, though. Thanks for the comment!
This is also really fun in BIS. Obviously you're allowed to do action commands during the Snack Basket section, and I also had to allow them during Giant Battles, but for all normal battles, nothing doing. The only good special attacks seem to be Falling Star, and if you're lucky, some of Bowser's can be decent enough
I was thinking about this. I guess if you leave out the giant battles, it would be fine! I would probably try to minimize the action commands required for the giant battles, but everyone's got their preferences. I'll have to keep this in mind for later. Thanks for the comment!

Until then, though, I have a bunch of other challenges to do - hopefully you'll enjoy some of them? Thanks again for showing up, I'll try to stay tuned for what you do in the future as well.

When I first played this game when I was very young, I didn't even know there was action commands associated with the jump command, so whenever I used the Hammer, I always did more damage than I did with jumping. When I discovered that I could do more damage with jumping with the right button imputs, it blew my mind.
Man...I can totally see that happening, we often end up playing games completely wrong as kids and it's fun to look back on it later. I know I definitely had a few stories as a kid as well.
Still fantastic to play, even after all these years. Its 20th anniversary is coming soon - gonna have to celebrate that, even if it looks like there won't be any more games in this series.
"Now that we have to get the Beanstar pieces, I went for Gwarhar Lagoon first." Implying you don't _have_ to get the Beanstar piece at Gwarhar Lagoon first.

Me too! I also didn't know you could target Queen Bean's arms so I kept hammering her for 1 damage until she died.... I lost my save a couple of times so I had to do that for more than one time....
The Mario and Luigi series were some of the first video games I ever played as a little kid. I made so many memories with friends while we were trying to help each other progress through the story. I really hope Nintendo makes more, I’ve played pretty much every game in the whole series and enjoyed all of them.
I hope so too, since they should have the necessary rights to make them. I still remember trying to help another kid at school get past Hermie III, and he was so underleveled and undergeared that I couldn't deal any damage without debuffing his defense...Good, nostalgic memories. Thanks for the comment!
When a crazed koopa passes crappy laws, inspiring these funny vids. This reminds me of the laws from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. That one had some crazy requirements that rotate through the map.
I never thought about an explanation like that...I'll have to keep that one in mind. I still have the childhood trauma from trying to play Tactics Advance, though.
I see...I don't know what Dream Team looks like with this challenge, but it might be interesting. Hope you enjoyed the video, and thanks for the comment!
Honestly, that's more than I expected. I didn't think they would re-release it! Now, let's just hope they see about continuing the series... Thanks for the comment!
Given how many boss mechanics you found that you'd never seen before; it really goes to show how well designed the game is, at least outside of the soft difficulty curve
I won't let myself get discouraged. This is still 100x more than I would've imagined getting from my older content, so I'll definitely keep going with it. Hopefully people might enjoy the next video. Thanks for the comment!
Ah, nostalgia...I still remember playing this game as a kid too, repeatedly finishing the game and grinding ridiculous amounts of levels and Starbeans drinks just for the fun of it.
It was a challenge I knew I could beat, but it still provided a new way to experience the game and make it more difficult at the same time, so I'm satisfied with the result. Maybe the other runs I did might be more to your liking?
It is definitely possible - someone else already has, actually, with the help of tons of grinding and pepper abuse! I'm not sure if it'd be different enough for its own video, though. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@NovemberJoy you could try it like a nuzlocke (look it up if you don’t know what it is), i think it could be a good video and you could also stream it. but u might not be able to incorporate some rules (like no items in combat) as it would be impossible.
like the "LIAR -->" that appears at the end. Although, they never said they were comfortable on that seat, or even that it was a problem for any other Yoshi.
Normally, I would, but the tutorial specifically separates them into two categories. That, and I started this challenge wanting to do the opposite of the Shyguymask challenge where he played the game without dodging attacks. Hopefully this explains it!
When I was a kid, 4-5 I didn’t know you were supposed to hit the corresponding bros button (I didn’t really pay attention to the tutorial) so I was technically playing this way
Reminds me of the people who apparently didn't realize you could move the soul heart in Undertale. It's funny when most challenges boil down to playing the game the wrong way, but on purpose. Thanks for the comment!
The first and only game I played in this series was dream team, which I quit because it was too difficult. I recently picked it up because it bothered me that I failed to beat it 8 or so years ago, and I got all the way to a boss fight with motion controls. My 3ds motion controls are very broken, so the game still hasn't been beat.
Kinda sad to hear. I'd like to hear about it if you ever get back to it and make more progress, though. The rest of the series is definitely worth playing.
Try deleting the version 1.1 update. It's possible it's probably just Dream Team being broken, and for me personally the motion controls are more broken on version 1.1 than they are on version 1.0. I was personally not able to beat the last giant battle on v1.1 whatsoever last year, but as soon as I removed the update it just worked like wonders. Also, this is also a big help: do NOT tilt your 3DS too much. Just tilt ever so slightly and it will glitch out less. :)
AS IF YOU ACTUALLY DID IT?! In case you're wondering I come from 'Can you beat Mario and Luigi Partners in Time without dodging?" by Shyguymask were you mentioned you would upload a video if you beat Superstar Saga without using action commands. Congratulations on actually uploading it!
@@NovemberJoy You did! Someone in the comments came up with the idea to beat any Mario and Luigi game without using the action commands under that video. First reply to their comment was you saying that you were playing Superstar Saga and would upload a video if you did it! By coincidence your video was recommended to me! Consider me surprised and happy!
When I first fought Queen Bean, i didn't know her arms were targetable, so i just kept hammering her for 1 dmg each attack, for 2 dmg per turn. Eventually she went down.
...Yeah, we all have stories like that. I still remember trying to beat the first boss of Parasite Eve by shooting the main body for 1 damage in a game with limited ammunition. Ah, memories...Thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoy the only story I have that's similar is in MGRR I never figured out how to break Sundowner's shield so I just dashed circles around him and whittled his HP down that way
Meanwhile I remembered that I played the remastered versión of this Game and man, I probably skipped a lot of fights when playing, because the end Game was very hard to me.
@@NovemberJoy I played the game and finished it today, and my strat for Cackletta's Soul was to wail on her with Knockback Bros Advanced and Chopper Bros Advanced.
I wonder if it’s possible to beat this game with the command restrictions on the opposite phase. Basically, you can do anything you want offensively but you’re not allowed to dodge anything. Gotta let the enemy attack and deal with the damage like in a traditional turn-based rpg. Basically makes every encounter a race to kill the enemy before they kill you.
Others have tried this one already. In fact, I was inspired by Shyguymask, who did that exact challenge with this game! It turned out to be easier than expected, since grinding levels until you can survive tanking every attack usually lets you destroy the enemy very quickly. I'll still keep it in mind, though. Thanks for the suggestion!
I would, but someone else already beat me to it. In fact, I was inspired to do this run by seeing their run first. Thanks for the suggestion, though! I'm always looking for more runs to turn into videos.
Superstar Saga is easier than the others, but Cackletta's Soul is the hardest fight in the series. It's not bad now, but I remember getting my ass kicked as a child to it over and over.
I lost to it a few times as a kid, but didn't have that much trouble once I learned how to dodge the opening attack. I would agree it's probably still the easiest game in the series, though. Thanks for the comment!
When Queen Bean gets super close to you, I don't think the damage from her melee attack is unavoidable. I could be wrong, but I think it might just be a *really* tight timing.
Yeah, it's probably avoidable. I didn't see any way to avoid it in the moment, though, and I'd never seen that attack before in the first place. Thanks for the comment!
It genuinely didn't look avoidable, so I thought maybe it was just an example of the first entry in the series being weird. Thanks for the clarification!
Maybe in future videos try to explain game mechanics a little bit more. For example, you never explained what that first badge (the bro badge, i think) did. Im sure many viewers knew what it was but I had no idea. Otherwise, great challenge run video!
Maybe it would've helped a little. I was working on the assumption that either you'd be familiar with this game, or that you'd be familiar enough with RPGs to know that gear = higher stats. I'll see about keeping this in mind for future videos. Thanks for the comment!
Honestly, I think I would've dealt more damage with solo attacks if I were allowed to hit the action commands, although I can't easily test that theory. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!
this reminds me of a challenge i did for my favorite mario and luigi game run.. partners in time. the final boss took me like 4 hours or somthing very simalar to that.
i couldnt die eather it was a very strict challenge. Lucky gear and chosen level ups only. Gear Must only upgrade lucky like stats No other stat can be boosted. No infinite items. Can only defeat enemys once per playthrough. You are not allowed to farm same enemys that spawn. No peppers as they boost a Non Lucky stat. Most of the game sucked due to most of the time i was required to get rid of any gear on me on the start of the game due to it breaking a rule. You cannot gameover at ANY point.
That is very strange...I think it's actually dependent on region as well, I think he uses the Cackletta theme in the Japanese version? Don't quote me on that, though.
Dodging is a type of action command. Action commands are pretty much anything you do when you press buttons outside of the menus. But it would just turn the game into excessive grinding, so only removing offensive action commands and keeping defensive ones was a good call imo. There's another video out there that does the opposite btw. Did it inspire you to make this one ?
Yeah, the "no dodging" video inspired me directly. As for the logic, I decided that action commands and dodging were separate things, since the tutorial refers to them both separately. Thanks for the comment!
Oof man this looks intense especially with mush badge equipment late game and casual coral and iron pants for the clothing I think great force on Mario is great combo but failing action commands that’s rough that’s why iron pants for him is perfection but high risk reward for great force as for Luigi high end badge is not that bad or bowser fang endgame wise for a alternative choice for the final boss given him the necktie for extra stache points given his luck boosts is a great combination but this is a challenge run you pretty much have to play by ear and see how it goes but this is if not the best RPGS in history i love playing the 3ds remake I think it is very enjoyable in my book
This did get surprisingly intense by the end, especially since I kept my level limited and didn't abuse the really strong gear like Mush Badges. Hopefully you enjoyed the video, maybe I'll have to look at the remake one of these days!
@@NovemberJoy sure thing they’re might be some gear got buffed or nerfed along with BIS remake as well but they’re still pretty enjoyable to play nonetheless
That's really what a lot of challenge runs are - play the entire game like you're 5 and see if the game is actually possible to beat that way. Thanks for the comment!
I'm not actually Shyguymask. At least, I don't think I am. If I am, someone should probably tell him. Thanks for the comment, hopefully you enjoyed the video!

I've always wanted to do something like this with Dream Team (Because at the time, that's the only Mario & Luigi game I had)
I see...I don't know what Dream Team looks like with this challenge, but it might be interesting. Hope you enjoyed the video, and thanks for the comment!
10.3 out of 10.3. I have no other words to describe how amazing this is.
Why 10.3
@@rbxq because it's that amazing to me.
Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it that much! Thank you for the feedback.
@@C___________ Wouldn't it be 10.3 out of 10 then? That way it exceeds expectations.
Damn, someday he'll make it to 10.4. XD
Well.. you got your wish of it being on switch!
Honestly, that's more than I expected. I didn't think they would re-release it! Now, let's just hope they see about continuing the series... Thanks for the comment!
5:36 That also brings her a tiny inch closer to death
Very tiny, but it is something. Thanks for the comment!
Given how many boss mechanics you found that you'd never seen before; it really goes to show how well designed the game is, at least outside of the soft difficulty curve
Yeah, it was really interesting to see and learn all these brand new boss mechanics!
even if this doesn't get the same traction as the undertale video don't be discouraged. this content is 10/10!
I won't let myself get discouraged. This is still 100x more than I would've imagined getting from my older content, so I'll definitely keep going with it. Hopefully people might enjoy the next video. Thanks for the comment!
The legend returns
7:23 Kings laugh from clash royale.
I imagine she's laughing at my skill issue, since I performed 0 action commands correctly up to that point in the game. Thanks for the comment!
"I really hope they make one for the switch" Boy do i got good news for you
Good news indeed! Can't wait to see if they handle this one well.
Bruh this guy Is so underrated i Hope u get more subs!
Thanks, I hope so too! If I can put out more videos more frequently, that might help a little.
When i was a kid i took my first trip to egypt from jersey to visit family. I remember playing this on my gba sp the whole time
Ah, nostalgia...I still remember playing this game as a kid too, repeatedly finishing the game and grinding ridiculous amounts of levels and Starbeans drinks just for the fun of it.
This dude played the game just like I did when I first got it as a dumb little kid.
It's funny how many challenges are like that when you think about it. Doesn't make them any less fun, though.
"we can dodge , that's fine"
well then there are no question you can beat the game since you can not take damages
But dodging can be hard, like in the final fight with the fire attack.
It was a challenge I knew I could beat, but it still provided a new way to experience the game and make it more difficult at the same time, so I'm satisfied with the result. Maybe the other runs I did might be more to your liking?
"The knockback bros. fail do damage to flying enemies" Cyclone bros: Am i a joke to you?
Epic video. My fave Mario and Luigi game thanks for doing this! It was also a funny video!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Maybe I'll see about more Mario-related things in the future.
I'm really excited to see what you do to Partner's in Time after watching this!
Maybe I'll have to consider Partners in Time at some point. Thanks for the comment!
2:36
Yeah he DEFINITELY said 4, don't worry about it guys. B)
I'm glad someone is here backing me up in the comment section!
u should reattempt this challenge but without dodging on top of it. I think if you have enough speed the final boss fight might be possible.
I know. Just had to point it out. Glad someone noticed that one-frame gag!
@@NovemberJoy i always attempt to go back and check when text flashes by. Especially when pausing at 0.25x speed is a challenge
Doesn’t dodging attacks also count as action commands?
Yeah I beat it when I was 8. Went back when I was 16 and got stuck at the giant bowser fight. I have no clue how that works.
You should try the other games. Dream Team is by far the most difficult one in the series.
full playthrough for the lolz
I think I do still have the raw footage. I could upload it unlisted in a playlist or something...
Did I say something about that? Huh, I entirely forgot! Well, hopefully you enjoyed the video!
The Legend is Back
I'll try to upload more frequently from now on. Thanks for the warm welcome!
When I first fought Queen Bean, i didn't know her arms were targetable, so i just kept hammering her for 1 dmg each attack, for 2 dmg per turn. Eventually she went down.
I bet that must've taken a while...I wonder how many people have ended up doing the same thing? Thanks for the comment, by the way!
I dunno...Bowser's Inside Story is pretty difficult to me at certain times...
Yeah, Bowser's Inside Story can be difficult at times. That's why I mentioned the difficulty thing doesn't really apply to the rest of the series.
@@NovemberJoy Yeah, it was like 3am and I heard you as "they're all too easy" instead of just Superstar Saga.
Huh I found inside story the easiest of the bunch by quite a bit, especially the remake
This combined with the saga+ hack is a nightmare
I can imagine, if it increases the difficulty of the game. I've never tried it myself, though, so I wouldn't know.
@@NovemberJoy wanna try it first with the easy version patch by yourself or?
@@NovemberJoy can you give me your discord for me to give you the zip for the saga+ patch for you to try without action commands?
It's just NovemberJoy#8583 if you want it. That, or I have a Discord server! Either way, I'll have to look into it.
And when the world needed him most he returned
I mean, I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I'm glad for the warm welcome! I hope the video was enjoyable.
Can't wait to see if you make one for the new game once it comes out!
I'll have to see, but...yeah, there's a good chance I will! Thanks for the suggestion!
On my first playthrough I didn't notice that you could target the arms of Queen Bean. So I just hit her for 1 damage with the hammer until she died.
...Yeah, we all have stories like that.
I've heard they increased the difficulty of the remaster in a few ways, but I don't know because I didn't play it.
Love these challenging vids spreading. This series is so good, its sad that the studio making these games went broke
Next do it without dodging lol
I would, but someone else already beat me to it. In fact, I was inspired to do this run by seeing their run first. Thanks for the suggestion, though! I'm always looking for more runs to turn into videos.
@@NovemberJoy hey just because someone did it first doesn't mean you cant do it aswell. If its fun for you do it
Superstar Saga is easier than the others, but Cackletta's Soul is the hardest fight in the series. It's not bad now, but I remember getting my ass kicked as a child to it over and over.
I lost to it a few times as a kid, but didn't have that much trouble once I learned how to dodge the opening attack. I would agree it's probably still the easiest game in the series, though. Thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoystill that is unfair on first time players without the armor to get to attack first as they have to perfect a attack they haven’t seen
He gives up - literally fucking dies 🤣
I would qualify that as giving up, yeah. Giving up on life is something people do.
You know how I beat Queen Bean?
Hammerspam. It holds her off and means she can only use her ground-slam attack.
I see...not an expedient way, but it worked, right?
5:34: That’s not actually true. Queen Bean’s arm attack is avoidable.
It genuinely didn't look avoidable, so I thought maybe it was just an example of the first entry in the series being weird. Thanks for the clarification!
I love how everyone unanimously agrees that the chuckola reserve is Coca-Cola.
That is kinda funny. I didn't even know that's the same joke others were already doing! Thanks for the comment to let me know.
You got your wish on that remake pal 😂
Hey, cool, I'm glad to see the series living once more!
I did this challenge on Partners in time. It was long. The final boss took, like, an hour to kill!
Honestly, an hour sounds shorter than I was expecting. GG on pulling it off! That reminds me, I should definitely get to work on my own as well.
I don't know who you are but I love you for making this video
Thank you! Hopefully I'll make more stuff in the future and you'll recognize me...?
@@NovemberJoy I'm counting on it :)
I think it would be interesting to try this in Partners it Time
I was thinking about that recently. I might have to give that an actual try. Thanks for the suggestion!
Never have beat this game at all but after this. I want sit down and beat it
Go for it! You can probably pull it off, and you'll probably have a fun time too.
This challenge would PHYSICALLY hurt me...
It hurt me a little at a few spots, but I still managed to have fun with it. Hopefully you had fun with the video!
Im pretty Sure You can.
But what about ONLY using NORMAL weak attacks?
(With using Action Commando)
Honestly, I think I would've dealt more damage with solo attacks if I were allowed to hit the action commands, although I can't easily test that theory. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!
Let's go!
Thanks!
this reminds me of a challenge i did for my favorite mario and luigi game run.. partners in time. the final boss took me like 4 hours or somthing very simalar to that.
That's in line with what I was expecting...I don't know how long it'll take when I do get to it, but I know it'll be a while.
i couldnt die eather it was a very strict challenge.
Fawful doesn't have Cackletta's battle theme in the GBA release. He has Popple's for some bizarre reason.
That is very strange...I think it's actually dependent on region as well, I think he uses the Cackletta theme in the Japanese version? Don't quote me on that, though.
@NovemberJoy Yeah. The Japanese version has the correct song. You were right that I was referring to the western release.
0:39 HE IS SOMEHOW RIGHT 2 YEARS AGO
I was really, really hoping they'd make one on the Switch, and I'm really glad they did!
My thumbs itched just from watching the video.
Just couldn't resist trying to press A and B sometimes, could you? Don't worry, I understand the feeling.
4:48 haha you Said the thing!
I later found out that tutorial is unskippable, so we really had no choice but to give that guy brain damage. Glad you got a laugh out of that.
@@NovemberJoy thanks haha. Your video style is great
This is just how I played partners in time when I was 5
That's really what a lot of challenge runs are - play the entire game like you're 5 and see if the game is actually possible to beat that way. Thanks for the comment!
this summer, from the creators of superstar saga without dodgin
I'm not actually Shyguymask. At least, I don't think I am. If I am, someone should probably tell him. Thanks for the comment, hopefully you enjoyed the video!
these challenge vids are great
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll have to see about getting more of these out soon.
