I noticed you loved to jump with both mario and luigi at the same time and I feel that probably messed you up a bit in the later fights when the timing starts to delay, this kind of play gets much worse in later games where they punish same time jumpings. I feel once you get a better understanding of when you jump it will make future attacks where you dodge by jumping so much easier.
I've never seen Trunkle's second phase lmao. Always targeted the fruit and spammed Mario's spinning hammer bros attack so it'd die in four or five turns
A quick note on the Trunkle fight: I usually find it faster to just spam Jump type Bros. Attacks on the Trunkle's head (Where the orange dot is). It usually goes down pretty quick, in spite of the high Def of that part.
Not sure if you knew about this or not (considering you didn't mention it in the video), but there is actually a much faster way to beat Trunkle: when selecting which enemy to attack, which in this case would be Trunkle in his base form, you have the option to instead attack the yellow berry on Trunkle's head tree, which has far less HP and upon destroying, defeats Trunkle prematurely and completely forgoes his "small" phase.

i played a lot of bowser's inside story, i think in my last playthrough i did a no items run just because i never had to use them, i was godlike at avoiding attacks. but in superstar saga i was in need of a mushroom almost every battle
Interesting video. My only thought would be that I feel like selling your stockpile of items sort of goes against the spirit of the challenge. You are in essence using the item after all, just not for it's in battle effect. By selling items you're effectively replacing the written effect of the item with "Becomes X coins when used."
I can see where you're coming from! I've taken a harder stance like that in some of my other videos. I think my logic here was that selling the items off just saves me time, rather than making things less challenging.
Ngl once you get badges even without items the game becomes pretty easy Your damage and defense are lowerd by so much without them wonder what a no badges no items run looks like
6:01 This is not entirely true. You can't JUMP on the main body while she is wearing the crown, but she can be hammered, which has the added effect of pushing her backwards. My tactic for the Queen Bean fight is to destroy one arm then hammer the body, which not only allows you to avoid the bean spitting attack but also causes her wave attack to be easier to dodge and do less damage if you do get hit
would like to thank you for not doing this on the 3ds version of this game, im pretty sure its just nostalgia but i swear its inferior to the gba one in terms of art style and how it does tthe bros moves in the overworld. also its extremely tragic how much skill issues have been shown off in the dodging of this playthrough, but that did make this more interesting overall though so still a good video. did this sort of thing when i played this as a kid (i was very stingy with items to the point of just refusing to use them, and never realized the power of the mush badge) and it was definitely pretty fun. ill be looking forward to seeing more stuff based on the bros games if you do more on em
funny and wierd quirk with superstar saga, and potentially all of mario and luigi. the attack stat for bros attacks that matters is the bro that makes contact with the boss from what i hear, meaning luigis attack didnt matter for bros attacks. also superstar saga has advanced bounce bros, which is an infinite bro attack. very broken.
You can if you abuse the MUSH AAA badges on both Bros. GBA version only the Shroom force effect is NOT abusable on the 3DS remake of it AT all but that remake DID replace it with a DIFFERENT Broken effect so that Chopper/Cyclone Bros still does 300+ damage a TURN to the final bosses.
I can imagine! It's been quite a while since my last one. The Arceus video took a ton of work, far more than any of the other ones, so burnout, a few failed video ideas, and being busy with other things made it a long wait. Thanks for subscribing!
I watched the entire video, but honestly the challenge wasn't even that interesting from the start. It's never even implied that you'd need to use items at any point in the game. The whole premise of the M&L battle system is that every attack is avoidable. Side note: The summary of the whole adventure actually felt like a "No Healing" run more than anything
How about starting equipment and no items? For your next challenge so each battle is a true test of dodging skill and you also have to only level up one stat via bonus.
Have you tried doing this challenge on the Japanese version? In the Japanese version, most of the enemies have different stats and there's heart blocks that appear throughout the game
@@MandatoryPixel Thank you! But to keep it in spirit of YOUR run, where you couldn’t really heal due to no inns or heal blocks, I’m tempted to ban inns in SMRPG, making only the mushroom ? blocks my only reliable source of healing, but they do come back if you leave the area and come back so… idk.

i played a lot of bowser's inside story, i think in my last playthrough i did a no items run just because i never had to use them, i was godlike at avoiding attacks. but in superstar saga i was in need of a mushroom almost every battle
man as a kid I did these types of runs for fun. I should really try it again one day.
Another great video bro! Hope we'll see more of you in the future 😁
Thanks very much!
Itemless partners in time seems like it would be an actual nightmare, no bros Items, bosses will last years
Mario and Luigi be like: MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaAAAAAAA
This is basically how I play rpgs (my storage in deltarune is full of dark candies)
Do you use ralsi and noelles heal prayer
@@kylelovespenguins6762 yes
Don't using the advanced Bros attacks made this quite dificult too. Cause they are the most broken in the game
No Bros Advancements either, an impressive playthrough.
Ngl once you get badges even without items the game becomes pretty easy
Your damage and defense are lowerd by so much without them
wonder what a no badges no items run looks like
6:01 This is not entirely true.
Trust me, don’t Hammer. Instead, use super splash / advanced bros, my strat is is to use it on her head. Then hammer with Luigi.
I wanna see you do this with Partners in time, where the bros attacks are items.
7:58 PEPSI MAAAANNNNNNNNNNN!!!
Edit: 10:07 “oh mama Mia I shouldn’t of a eaten all a that spaghetti “
Edit2: 17:32 comedy
Edit3: 28:45 SMOOTTHHHH
this challenge might actually be ever so slightly easier on the japanese version, since there is a single heart block in the beanbean sewers
9:15 "His name is Hank." moment
the short version is yes
you can beat pretty much every mario and luigi game without taking damage
You could've stocked up on Mushrooms and equipped the Mush Badges
omg havent seen the video yet but so hyped to see ur back!! love ur content
Thanks very much, it's definitely been a while!
would like to thank you for not doing this on the 3ds version of this game, im pretty sure its just nostalgia but i swear its inferior to the gba one in terms of art style and how it does tthe bros moves in the overworld.
also its extremely tragic how much skill issues have been shown off in the dodging of this playthrough, but that did make this more interesting overall though so still a good video. did this sort of thing when i played this as a kid (i was very stingy with items to the point of just refusing to use them, and never realized the power of the mush badge) and it was definitely pretty fun.
ill be looking forward to seeing more stuff based on the bros games if you do more on em
Man, I love Fawful.
Japanese version has heal blocks - admittedly, only three of them, but it does have heal blocks.
I don't remember the Koopaling fights at all in Superstar Saga
Cuz they didn’t speak probably? Which is kind of a dumb choice
This challenge would be significantly easier if you didn't suck at dodging lol.
Probably true!
funny and wierd quirk with superstar saga, and potentially all of mario and luigi.
the attack stat for bros attacks that matters is the bro that makes contact with the boss from what i hear, meaning luigis attack didnt matter for bros attacks.
also superstar saga has advanced bounce bros, which is an infinite bro attack. very broken.
That's interesting! I guess it makes sense.
You are terrible at dodging, lol. No offence though as the video is really fun.
You're not wrong! I don't play the M&L games much, so I don't have much practice with the dodges.
Wow gg I’m stuck at the final fight for six months now 😂
You can if you abuse the MUSH AAA badges on both Bros. GBA version only the Shroom force effect is NOT abusable on the 3DS remake of it AT all but that remake DID replace it with a DIFFERENT Broken effect so that Chopper/Cyclone Bros still does 300+ damage a TURN to the final bosses.
i haven't watched the video yet but im assuming the answer is yes because every attack is dodgeable
My trunkel fight he never split at all
Thank God for heal blocks in the remake
Honestly when I found you about a month ago I was wondering if it was still worth subscribing so seeing you upload something is very nice
I can imagine! It's been quite a while since my last one. The Arceus video took a ton of work, far more than any of the other ones, so burnout, a few failed video ideas, and being busy with other things made it a long wait. Thanks for subscribing!
@@MandatoryPixel yeah i can imagine that it is pretty draining when a video idea does not live up to your own personal expectation
I love your sense of humor!
Thanks!
That’s just how I play normally…
I watched the entire video, but honestly the challenge wasn't even that interesting from the start. It's never even implied that you'd need to use items at any point in the game. The whole premise of the M&L battle system is that every attack is avoidable.
Side note: The summary of the whole adventure actually felt like a "No Healing" run more than anything
the way you say oho oasis is funny hahahaha
How about starting equipment and no items? For your next challenge so each battle is a true test of dodging skill and you also have to only level up one stat via bonus.
I did cacklettas soul with 1 hp no heals easily, however, I overleveled and used number 1 trousers and schoool slack
Have you tried doing this challenge on the Japanese version? In the Japanese version, most of the enemies have different stats and there's heart blocks that appear throughout the game
I love this video! Has inspired me to do a no item run of super Mario RPG ^_^
Thanks very much! Good luck!
@@sonnitude Could always ban the blocks too and try to survive off of items, Peach/Mallow spells, and cutscene heals 😉
@@MandatoryPixel That’s true! Items are actually quite limited in the overworld and while battles give items sometimes they ain’t guaranteed.
Now you should do that with Mario RPG +multiple skill issues 🤣🤣
God this game was so good haha
You should do this challenge in inside story too
25:30 Wait a second, what? Since when does this happen? I think I just always destroyed either Popple or Birdo too fast for them to do this, but it's kinda wild that I just discovered this attack
it essentially became a no damage run lol
It is definitely possible, but it makes the game a lot harder.
28:39 lol
not to be mean about this, but it feels like a lot of the time you miss very simple visual cues on the attacks you were often struggling with
like - i saw several occasions during the cackletta's soul fight where you actively just ignore her eyes that show you which reaction you should have in her arm spin attack thing
so in stardust valley you can grind till your about lvl 7/8 and the next 2 areas will be a breeze but how? well you can beat the mobs in sdv but run in the final battle to lose some of your coins go back to the tolstar abd he'll respawn all the mobs repeat until you reach a good level and then continue the game
Interesting! I couldn't do that for this particular challenge since fleeing was banned, but that's a cool fact!
@@MandatoryPixelI had to do it recently because I did a challenge run of the game where I couldn't use action commands or dodge, and Tolstar was nearly impossible otherwise.
Ngl i think the easiest version to do this challenge in is the japanese version or the remake because it has recover blocks. I still dont know why the japanese release of the original has them
The localization seems to be based on a version that was a little earlier in development, since there are all kinds of little differences like that in the Japanese version. Definitely weird!
goated game, I love it so much
7:57 I burst out laugh! 8:59 Mario torture 10:05 Mario couldn't believe it! 12:58 Stab man! 13:17 Luigi protect his brother from non-dangerous threat
15:28 Plot Twist! 16:54 Items using themself is allowed 17:36 YOU GOT A DISEASE! 18:36 Luigi torture 20:29 Ruin Christmas successfully
22:35 Luigi surfboard 22:37 Cold cold castle 23:52 Really resistant side boss 28:40 Bowling out Wendy in 40 seconds 29:45 FINAL BOSS TIME!
30:03 Uh oh, 1HP left! No nuts! 33:30 DEFEATED!
Lore of Can You Beat Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Without Using Items? Momentum 100
do partners in time no items next please (would exclude bros items)
I wonder if anyone did a saga challenge involving the weakest gear and badges?
If u know how to dodge every SINGLE ENEMIES ATTACK then your HP WOULDNT EVEN MATTER CUZ YOU NEVER WILL GET HURT!!
Can you beat mario and Luigi dream team without any Luiginary attacks
If you were to do this in the 3ds remake would you use the mush badge? It was severely nerfed in that game.
I'm not sure! I guess I'd have to mess around with it and decide.
