Heyyyy so I somehow missed this video until now, so thanks for the shoutout ! This video is really really well done :D I was not expecting SM64DS content, but I'm always glad to see it ! Also, I myself attempted this run without savestates, and there are a few things that I have to add to this video, but I also learned some strats that I didn't think of ! I was really surprised how you were able to pound the switch using the box ! There's another tech to ground pound anywhere as long as there's a corner, that you can use to pound the switch. (CGP for corner ground pound) On the things I did know, though: On my DS (so no savestates at all) I have managed to get even more stars without jumping. I managed to unlock Wario without savestates as well, I did it by performing a portal to land on the unloaded room and load it by leaving it (it's called the Permanently Loaded Room glitch), so that I could do another *consecutive* heaven portal while the textures fromm the mirror room were loaded. This let me aim for the painting much more accurately. On top of your 81 stars, here's what I got: BBH 100, I had to climb the stairs for a 3rd time in order to get enough coins 💀 LLL 5. You were right at 1:08:27 ! You can use this trick to get the first star, but not the one with the pole in the middle. This one still isn't even possible with TAS :( DDD 100, where you have to get every coin from the black boxes and almost every coins from the skeeters at the start. I think there are max 105 reachable coins. TTM 1, 2, 4, 7, 100. I figured out that you can use the giant mushroom from one of the wooden poles to kick over the big gap. Extremely tight timing to pull of and very annoying, because you have to do a CGP to pound the pole without jumping. THI 1, 2, 3, 4, 100. I found a setup to heaven portal straight into the big island painting. Pretty stupid to figure out but can get consistent. TTC 3, 6. Same trick, heaven portal. Make sure to enter with random time, otherwise you won't be able to climb the first part. Tricky but forgiving climb. RR 2, 3, 4, 5, 100. Heaven portal, and also to get star 4 and 5 you have to get balloon mario in the big house, use the winds to get hyper speed and do a groundpound of faith once you're above those stars. If you fail you go back up the carpet again. CCC black box star. After unlocking Wario, I had to redo the two consecutive heaven portals to enter Wario's stage. Here, I put his cap on and collect the star stuck in the black box Btw, this means you can get 80 stars without using any heaven portals ! Though you still need one to get to BitS as Yoshi... These are 21 additionnal stars, which means my score issss... 103 stars ! ummm somehow this doesn't add up and idk why lol Now theoretically, it might be possible to get a few more stars: WF 1 and 2, you can use CGP on King Whomp, it's still extremely stupid and precise, but at least you don't have to time it with the spinning platforms anymore, so I can see it being done. THI 6, it might be possible to bring the tiny koopa to help pounding the top of the island, but no consistent setup has been found yet. TTM 6, I actually thought of something while writing this comment, you can get on top of the mountain, get the wings as Mario, go back down and take the cannon, fire, and use an exploit about flying against OoB to get a lot of height and collect the coins in the rings. Time to grind this one ! This would bring the total to 107 stars ! 15 stars away from the TAS score on version 1.1, and 24 stars away on 1.0 Finally, About BitS. I spent many hours searching for a setup to bring the goomba to the spinning platform, but the seesaw platform is just too chaotic. It's too hard for me at least. The rest of the level can be done pretty consistently though ! In fact, I've done a complete run of this game with only 1 B press. And I am currently the WR holder :D Out of 1 run D: Well, that wraps up everything I wanted to say ! Once again, amazing video ! SM64DS doesn't sell as much as its N64 counterpart, but it's soooo fun to play around with it :) While the SM64 ABC is an insane challenge for TASers, and the any% 0xA quest is still to this day going on, I feel like the SM64DS BBC is a challenge for RTA. It's not impossible that we'll se a full 0xB run in the future, but it would require new strategies and a crazy level of dedication ! oh btw we have an inactive discord where I document most of my strats for this challenge ! (how exciting ! An inactive discord !)
Hey, I'm really glad to see you here! You were one of the main inspirations for this run, so I'm glad you did enjoy it. As for the stars...I felt there were definitely more stars that were possible, but I had a very hard time just getting 80 together like I wanted. I think I saw the corner ground pound trick, but I didn't think I could pull it off humanly. Should've given it a better try, seeing as how it would've potentially gotten several more stars. I don't think I knew you could keep a room loaded that way...It indeed would have helped a lot, though I would have gotten it eventually without savestates. I don't think I would've been able to handle the Goomba escort without savestates, though. Not without spending a really, really long time practicing, at least. It'll be amazing if someone does eventually manage a 0xB run, whether it's you or a new challenger! Thanks again for showing up and commenting here, especially with such a detailed comment! This is a pretty interesting challenge, especially when you take the RIG out of the equation. Lastly, that inactive discord is how I ended up finding your Discord account. I think I'm actually still in there!
I know I'm a bit late but I managed 110 stars RTA. I got NovemberJoy's 81 stars + Adeal's extra 22 to get 103, also Adeal if you're reading this the star you forgot was probably OtR reds. Normally if you touch the ground in this stage, you can just triple jump to start flight again, but in this challenge if you start flying and land on any platform other than the two with the cannons, you're stuck and have to start the whole star again. So for most of the red coins, you have to fly low enough to touch the coin but also high enough such that you don't touch the ground. But it is still possible with careful flying to get all the red coins and grab the star. Now for the new stars: WF 1 and 2: I used the elevator ground pound strat to gp King Whomp, it took a bit of practice but I eventually got it. The fortress star is then easy. THI 6 (Wiggler fight): There was a new strat discovered by Rupa, where you have to be Mario and stand on the tiny version of the Tip Top of the Huge Island platform, then face directly uphill, build a Y run and charge forwards, then when you're near the top of the slope press downwards to turn around. If you time the down press correctly Mario will become airborne for a split second and you then press R at the right time to ground pound the cave. DDD 3 and 4 (red coins and jet stream): As it turns out, there is barely enough time to climb up the boxes with some precise slide kicks. For the jet stream, you first swim through the rings to spawn the star, then do the climb as Wario, then you can dive from the platform where the red coin star spawns to the platform with the power up block, then just become metal and fall onto the star from above. For the red coins, after doing this climb as Yoshi, you can then easily grab 5 red coins. The other 3 require doing a trick where you drop off of one pole and grab onto another. This trick sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and idk why, and for every time you fail this trick you have to do an extra box climb. Apparently Mario can't do this trick, so use Yoshi instead. After succeeding, you can grab the other 3 red coins, and then you have to fall down and do one last box climb to get the star because the pole trick doesn't work backwards. This star is definitely the hardest out of the 110 stars I've done, but it's definitely possible. RR 1 and 6 (Cruiser Crossing the Rainbow and Somewhere Over the Rainbow): You have to lure the fly guy from the bottom of the stage all the way up to the top where you can bounce on it to get up to the ship to grab these two stars. It takes ages and sounds like it would be really hard, but this fly guy can't spit fire, it can only ever lunge, which makes things a lot easier, and as long as you enter RR stocked up with lives and playing as Mario (not as another character with a Mario cap, actually playing as Mario) then it's actually not too bad. Also if you want to see how I did DDD or RR then I have video proof of me doing them RTA on my channel. Edit: Got a new star, at 111 now, JRB 5 (reds): Enter as Yoshi with Mario cap on. Grab the 6 easy red coins (all the ones not on the upper portion of the ship), and while you're up on the ship (to grab the lower red coin) also grab the 15 coins on the wooden beams. Then go back to the starting area and break the orange brick with the 3 coins in so it doesn't get in your way later. Lure the goomba closer to the shell brick, break it to reveal the shell, take damage from the goomba to revert to Yoshi, eat the goomba and get on the shell. While you're on the shell, Yoshi will not turn the goomba into an egg unless you press R to dismount the shell. Ride it into the cannon, then shoot to the stone platform with the red ? block on it. At this point Yoshi's swallow timer has expired, so if you just wait for him to get up the goomba will turn into an egg. Instead do a rollout and when you land immediately spit out the goomba and eat it again. Then press the switch to make the boxes appear and carefully make your way onto the ship while keeping the goomba. Then you have to get up onto the raised edge of the ship for the extra height. Then spit out the goomba and bounce on it to get up to the higher ship area. If you're on v1.1, you'll have to press A as soon as you bounce to make Yoshi stick his tongue out, which gives you more height, but on v1.0 you don't have to do this. Then just eat the last 2 red coins and the star.
I do think save state usage there is fair, it didn’t give you any unfair advantage, just helped save hours of otherwise wasted time, and you still had to pull off those really hard tricks legitimately. Also, good vid :)
This is what I was thinking, but I wanted to ask anyway. After all, you guys are a major reason to keep doing these videos. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
RE: Save state use in a challenge like this: There's a point where a challenge stops being "Am I, personally, capable of doing this difficult thing" (EG: Dark souls hitless) and becomes "Is it possible, within the mechanics of the game, to achieve this?" (EG:... well, Mario 64 jumpless.) And when it reaches that point, when the difficulty moves to being less about execution, and more about the effort of trying Over and Over hoping for the RNG to be right? Yeah, tool assist away! You've only got so much time, and we wanna know if it's Possible, even if highly improbable! Also, the less time you spend headbutting a brick wall down, the more time you have for the next video of headbutting a New brick wall down.
I think this explanation makes sense - there is a lot of difficulty in execution as well, but there's also a difference between "You can totally beat this, but can I pull it off?" vs. "Is this even possible?" I'm glad it worked out, thanks for the comment!
I think the save state was valid. You've proven that you have the ability to perform the trick, the only limiting factor was time. You could've done this without save states, it just would've taken more time/attempts. So cutting out some of the extra fat after already proving it was possible and within your ability is acceptable for the purposes of this challenge.
I can work with this reasoning. I know I could've done that bit without save states, I just wanted to save time for the people watching live. I'll have to keep this in mind for later projects - thanks for the comment!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it! I think the elevator Goomba part actually hasn't been done by a human...ever, which is crazy to think about! Maybe I could've eventually pulled it off, but it definitely would've been multiple hundreds of hours just to get it to work one time.
Love the pannenkoek reference, it wasn't suuuper subtle for those who knows but it wasn't so in your face that it was annoying, the perfect balance for a reference :) Great video all around!
That was what I was going for, so I'm glad you appreciated it! That, and I based parts of it off of an old edit I saw, including the "0.5 minutes long" line. I'll see if I can get more videos out a LITTLE faster than this one in the future!
I just imagine Bowser maniacally laughend as he hangs Wario's painting. "Bwahahah, Mario has no chance of defeating me this time! I hung this painting ONE centimetre too high for him to reach! Nothing can stop me now!"
I think that for a challenge run like this the use of save states is perfectly fine. The video seems to be about "is it possible to do these things" instead of "can I do it all perfectly in one go" or something. You demonstrated that it was possible and (reasonably) don't wanna spend hours headbutting a brick wall to do something you already know is possible. All around this video was incredibly impressive regardless, and entertaining. Definitely subscribing
Thanks for your input - in the end, it did help a lot to get the video out faster, and also to keep the people from getting too bored watching me kick a wall over and over again. Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video!
It kinda is. It works that way because you don't actually have to unlock Luigi or Wario - I never did when I played this originally. Makes for a pretty lonely ending, only beaten out by cheating to beat the game with only Yoshi unlocked...and yes, Mario won't show up in the ending if he isn't unlocked, even though it's impossible to reach the ending without Mario unlocked unless you cheat if I remember correctly.
It’s interesting to see that the final bowser spawns mario caps, if you’re not playing Mario. Especially because you usually shouldn’t even be able to enter the level without him
He can spawn Mario caps when you fight him the other two times, so I guess they didn't see any reason to remove that for the final fight that you shouldn't be able to reach while playing as Yoshi anyway. Interesting little fact when you think about it.
If you are walking on the rings of Venus and your unicycle breaks down, what number should your bowtie be? Answer: elevator because penguins hate Christmas!
Loved the video! I watch a lot of videos where people do wacky challenges in older games, and this was by far one of my favorites. You explained your process and the tricks you did, and never over-dramatized the gameplay. It made it all feel so approachable, and made me feel more inspired to do some of the challenges I've been slowly working through! Easiest sub I've ever done, really looking forward to more stuff like this!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video that much! I try to explain things without making it too long-winded, and I'm glad that it seems to have succeeded in this instance. If you do end up doing challenge-related stuff of your own, it might be interesting to hear about it! Hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer...
Save states are fine in a non timed challenge run. As i've commented with other challenges, save states only really save time on setting up each try of a trick. So using it only for a super hard trick still keeps this challenge legit in my eye
I finally finished this video and since it's been a while, I just watched it from the start again. I love the pole redemdition arc right at the end after all they've put you through in this challenge. My favorite part is definitely the Goomba escort mission at the end even though that probably isn't your favorite ;). There were a lot of cool strategies and uses for the characters you had access to which was also fun to see!
I'm glad you finally got the chance to watch it yourself! I did enjoy the pole's redemption arc, although it wasn't much to make up for what happened in the past, and the Goomba escort was a pretty interesting part as well - it was not the most fun to play, but I hoped it would be good in video form! It helps that there's a whole community for this game and this specific challenge, but it still had plenty of difficulty in execution. I'm hoping I can eventually find something else to top this. I'm not sure what it would be, but it'll come sooner or later. Good luck with your own challenges - I think you've already got some that will top this once you manage to complete them!
I'm glad someone else appreciated that joke too, I spent a bit of time trying to get it accurate without sounding like mockery. Thanks for the comment!
Sorry to tell you, but your friend might've been joking. I don't think his uncle actually works at Nintendo, sorry to say. Thanks for the comment, though!
@@NovemberJoy Friends don't joke around like that, it's more likely that you're wrong and feel bad about faking this video. I had a close look at some of the pixels and it's not looking good for you. AI generated nonsense.
@NovemberJoy welp my cousin works for Nintendo and he added Marth from Fire Emblem to this game, which you can get if you beat this game without jumping. I didn't see you unlock Marth after this unfortunately :/
That was absolutely insane and way more in depth than I was expecting. So weird seeing the credits with Wario unlocked but not Luigi. One thing that killed me though was the chain chomp star - I'm pretty sure there's a breakable brick block somewhere after the 4th level (rematch with the king bomb guy) that has a giant mushroom in it. You can use that to instantly destroy the pope holding the chomp in place
Glad you enjoyed it, this was a long time in the making! It was interesting to see Wario still showed up during the ending even if Luigi wasn't unlocked. I'll admit, though, I forgot about the mushroom that appears during the 4th star - otherwise, I might have tried that first! I was also amused by the idea of the Pope holding a chain chomp. Is it just like a dog for him?
Great video! I'd definitely recommend applying a bit of compression and maybe an equalizer to your microphone if you don't already. It'd help some of the bassier tones in your voice shine through a bit more. It'd also be pretty cool to have a star counter on screen since there's a lot of negative space on the sides and I often found myself wanting to check what you were at when glancing back over at the video (I watch a lot of stuff in the background so little HUD stuff like that can be really helpful). Awesome job! Will definitely check out more of your stuff.
...Actually, I was applying compression and EQ to my audio in post! Maybe I could've done a better job of it, though. I was mostly just boosting low and high end - equivalent to combining Audacity's "Bass Boost" and "Treble Boost" presets together, along with the default compressor settings. I'm not an audio whiz, so I just messed with it and re-recorded until I had something that sounded good to me - if there's something you'd be willing to teach me, I'd be all ears! Now that you mention it, I could've put a star counter on-screen as well. It would've taken a bit longer to edit together, but it would've been possible. I'll keep that in mind for later videos. Thanks for the super-detailed comment, glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
Hey, glad I still got to pop up in someone's feed! I'm gonna try to release some more videos before too long, it's been a while already. Hopefully you'll enjoy whatever you end up seeing!
I was contemplating about whether to try this on console, but the Yoshi Goomba juggling at the end looks like a nightmare. The last challenge playthrough I did was Super Mario Sunshine without the hover nozzle, which is much easier to do compared to this challenge.
It does seem a lot easier from the few videos I've seen of the hoverless challenge, though it's still got its tricky parts. It'd still be fun to do on console, just maybe not the Goomba escort near the end! Thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoy Thanks for the reply, and the entertaining video. I actually couldn't resist trying the challenge on 3DS, with a hack to enable the circle Pad. Bowser1 was already pretty difficult. I hate those seesaws, only when their angle is *just right* are you able to ledge grab ;D
My take on the use of save states is that for runs that are functionally "can I do x" then using save states to avoid wasting time on tricks you completed but were time consuming is fine because that does not change the spirit of the challenge. You know you can do the trick, you did it before, the challenge becomes overcoming the next obstacle and not testing your patience doing the last one. It would be different if this were a race against yourself or another, because then time would be a core part of your run but at least where I am in the video there is no indication that you are even keeping track of your time so it is fine since it does not impact the end result which is if you can physically do the thing.
I see, this makes sense. I wasn't keeping track of the time, so it wouldn't have had an effect there. I'll try not to abuse them, but I'll keep in mind that they should be workable for harder challenges!
I LOVE the way you approached this. You showed us footage of all sorts of different ways you attempted to solve a problem and it was great seeing your thought process laid out.
I'm glad you liked the way I edited this video together, I did try to put together footage of the different methods I tried to accompany the voiceover! Hopefully I'll keep getting better as time goes on.
Imo my judge for what's a legit run or not is: "does it stick with the rules set?" and "does it stay within the spirit of the challenge?" If it sticks with the current rules set then it's all good there. If it stays within the spirit of the challenge then I'd say that's all good there as well. I'm usually picky with certain challenge rules because of how often people bend them to fit a specific thing when they clearly didn't try to look for any alternatives, and I'd say using savestates to pull off a trick that you very clearly did research in and that trick still being within the spirit of the challenge is something I personally see no problem in doing. I love when challenges like this pull off some really odd and crazy glitches kind of like how YMFAH does it, and as long as those are being used to achieve a goal then I'm happy with it. Also I loved that half A press joke in hazey mazey cavey (also I haven't heard anyone else call hazey maze cave that as well in a long time so it took me by surprise to hear lol)
I'm glad you liked the way I handled things. I mostly used it as a time-saving measure, since it would've been possible to do those things with a lot more practice and patience. Glad you enjoyed the glitch usage, too. I wasn't aware others called it Hazy Mazy Cavey, so now I'm curious if you're referring to someone in particular! Thanks for the comment.
Save states on stuff that is possible, but would take you years to perfect, are valid in my book. It lets us see the final product of you beating the game without jumping while saving you hours of time save repeating steps in a hard trick.
I'm glad to hear this. I was worried at first that some might feel it's less legitimate with savestate usage. I'll keep this in mind for future challenges!
Advice, for future reference, Yoshi can use his tongue (A) to get things far away, EVEN SILVER AND POWER STARS! You can also turn one enemy or wooden box into an egg and toss it into enemies for bonus coins. To do this, just crouch after eating an enemy or a wooden box.
He can, but it is a bit tricky to get it to aim where you want it to since it has a mind of its own. I did abuse eggs, though - that's how I managed to get the 100-coin star in Hazy Mazy Cavey, after all. Thanks for the suggestions!
22:48 correct me if I’m wrong but I think the have. One of the platforms near the bottom actually raises itself extremely slowly, if you wait a good few hours you can cut a jump which I think skips that part.
It's true, you can do that on the Wii Virtual Console version, but they're currently seeking a way to do this on the Japanese N64 version since it saves A presses overall in a 100% route. Thanks for pointing this out, though!
@@redshell9205 It's kind of interesting - the Wii VC is a very weird emulator, and one thing it gets wrong is floating point numbers. As a result, the perfect cycle actually rounds in such a way that the lava platforms rise extremely slowly. There are more detailed explanations out there, but hopefully that one was understandable!
Man SM64DS is such a classic, it's a shame it is just a repaint of SM64 with some new stuff cus I absolutely loved this game as a kid and wish more people talked about it. 14:20 "I made sure to give Bowser my complaints for not making this course handicap accessible" lmao. 48:26 "First we need to talk about the afterlife" is the new "First we need to talk about parallel universes." xD 1:00:44 I sometimes forget that Bowser canonically designs the courses in these games lol.
It is a classic, though the controls do sometimes hold it back a little. I wish it were possible to play the game with proper analog control and stuff - being able to experience the new content and everything with better controls and physics would be awesome! Glad you enjoyed the jokes and stuff. A lot of time was poured into the script, so it's nice that it all worked out as expected!
I always love how people who do these challenge runs ask if things like savestates and glitches are ok to use (especially when theyve already sunk tens if not hundreds of hours into the challenge). The way I see it, the object of the video is to prove if the run is POSSIBLE to do; probability is a much less important factor in my mind. Use savestates and frame perfect inputs all you want; I'm just here to see players bend games to their unreasonable demands.
Thanks for the perspective, this is a reasonable way to look at it! It's still more fun to see if I can pull it off without assistance sometimes, though.
So you know, you can also use glitchy slide kicks to clip through the mirror room instead of the heaven portal. Theres actually unused dialog for getting there as Yoshi (normally you cant) I wouldnt worry about using a save state. Personally, I've tried using heaven portals to hit much larger targets, and it still took ages
Can you clip into the mirror room with slide kicks alone? I haven't tried, but every video I've seen uses a long jump instead. I was aware of the Yoshi dialogue - when I streamed this, I made sure to show it off live on stream. As for the save state...I'm glad to hear you were alright with it. Thanks for the comment!
At 50:00 I nodded off. Sorry, I guess that section kind of put me to sleep lol. I rewatched it and found it very interesting. I just had to remind my brain that’s currently on 3 hours of sleep to stay awake
No worries, I know the feeling of only having 3 hours of sleep. I didn't expect someone to actually nod off during that section, though! Pretty funny considering how I ended that explanation. Thanks for the comment!
I'm glad someone appreciated this reference! I was trying to go for something humorous without sounding insulting or disrespectful, so I hope I accomplished that part too!
I think it's odd people don't count the roll out jump as a jump but the P balloon is? sounds like a classic case of you can only do it because you guys are able to break the rule from day 1.
Well, for one thing, it helps to have a consistent ruleset - the main rule here is to not press the B button, and rising up with Balloon Mario uses the B button as well. If you don't ban it entirely, you have to keep a whole list of moves that are banned, and the rules feel more and more arbitrary for every specific thing you have to ban. On the other hand, if you ban the rollout flip, then the challenge is kind of a failure from the very start since you now have absolutely no way to gain any vertical height at all, and that's no fun. Hopefully this explains the thought process!
Save States to reset you to the position you need to be in to begin your techs is perfectly fine in my eyes. Arguably in that final stage, save stating at each individual point you need to get the Goomba transferred to a new platform is "cheating". But when executing that steategy in one unbroken run requires a blue moon on a Friday the 13th at 11:59 pm during a lunar eclipse whilst the stars are aligned as Cthulu is being summoned for the seventh time within a...(you get the idea)...yeah, it's perfectly valid as far as I'm concerned. Seriously though, save states or not, getting that last strat to work is SUPER impressive 👏
People like you have way more patience than me lol. I really love the technical movement that needed to be used. That one red coin in TTM stood out to me for some reason.
No problems if playing games this way isn't your thing - I know it's definitely an acquired taste. I liked the technical movement as well, it did force me to approach problems in brand-new ways. Thanks for the comment!
This video surprisingly managed to hold my attention the whole way through. Every pun, every strategy, every hurdle. Very nicely done. I subbed to your channel.
This was cool. As another challenge idea maybe you could do Mario 64 DS without running. This would also cut you off from advanced moves like long jumps, slide kicks and dives.
Yeah, I'm a fan of his. As mentioned, I wrote the script while he was still on break with severe health issues, so I'm glad he's back to semi-normal now!
18:46 I never knew Toad could find your hat if you lost it, that's so neat! Thank you, Toad. You're useful for more than just giving us a few free Stars!
I found out about it quite a while ago when I was a kid. There's a lot of little things like that in Super Mario 64 and DS that I wouldn't blame you for not knowing. Thanks for the comment!
I'm pretty hyped that they're porting dark moon to switch, obviously what they really need to do is port this to switch. Some people might find it weird since they still have an officially ported super Mario 64 in its OG state other than in the online n64 thing but I would love to see this game ported to switch I love this game while I was a kid I have really good memories with it.
I'm really hoping they port this at some point too. Literally all you'd need is a little reworking of the controls and it might just be the best version of the game.
Given how Nintendo has been acting recently about some of their decisions, I think if people make enough of an uproar about it they might listen. It seems like they're being a lot more receptive to fan feedback now.
Oh hey, didn't expect to see you here! I did eventually manage the specific upward shot I needed later on in the challenge, by the way - it was an important part of scraping together 80 stars from the options I had left. Thanks for the comment!
I really loved this video! I didn't even realise it was 1 hour long, it just felt like 20 minutes by how well made it was I have this idea of maybe me adding captions to other languages like Spanish (TH-cam used to have community subtitles) but i'm not sure how adding captions is made at all-
I'm glad you enjoyed the video that much! I'm thrilled that you'd even consider something like that, though I'd have to brush up on how TH-cam handles captions as well since I've never touched them before. Thanks for the comment - if this is something you're still interested in, maybe we can get in touch some other way?
I'll make sure it continues on. I'm glad to hear you stuck around, and that you enjoyed the video! Let's hope the next one comes out a LITTLE sooner than this one did.
I came here right off Swankybox's video of having an a press on every singly frame. Couldn't resist the irony. Funny enough, poles are nigh insurmountable in both challenges.
Oh yeah, that video! It's a pretty good one as well. It is interesting when challenges with basically opposite stipulations have the same problems, gotta say.
Amazing video. I liked how through and experimental you were with every star you could obtain. I also like that you saved using glitches until you needed them. AND I liked the way you formatted the video. Instead of going course by course and saying what stars are possible, you showed us your personal journey and when you went to each course sometimes even taking breaks to try new courses. Was very fun to watch.
AWESOME video! I've never heard of you before, but I still watched the whole thing because your commentary was so good. Well done on completing the challenge!
Bro i was watching like half the video, convinced you were some 700k-800k youtuber judging by the quality of the video before i saw the sub count - mad respect!
There actually is a glitch in Tall Tall Mountain that may have been useful as it floods half the course and allows you to swim up the mountain until about halfway. You can get the Lonely Mushroom star this way as well so long as you avoid the wind currents. It's triggered through the teleportation zone near the beginning somehow, but it doesn't seem to work every time, I'm not even sure if it works on non-European versions.
I did totally forget about that glitch...so I didn't have to sin by using the cannon for the Lonely Mushroom star after all then! I think it only goes right up to the pool next to the log section, though, so it wouldn't help with getting past the super-large gap. Thanks for the comment, this is interesting!
Great video, but why does "without jumping" become "without pressing B"? "We can't use the owl because that requires pressing B." That's not jumping though, so it just seems like the title should be "Can you beat Super Mario 64 on the DS without pushing B?" Idk, still a great video, well done with clear effort put into it.
I thought "without jumping" would be a better title, not to mention banning the B button makes things less ambiguous so I don't have to go through every move and possible action in the game to determine if they qualify as a jump or not. Not all games have this luxury, but I'll take it when I can get it. Hopefully this makes sense, and I'm glad you still enjoyed the video!
I think using save states changes any challenge from 'can you' to 'could you'. Difference is huge skill gap between approaches. Sometimes resilience and patience is almost as important as any other skill and someone completing this challenge without save states would be undeniably more resourceful in comparison.
That is plausible. Given enough time, I probably could have pulled the Goomba escort off. Question is, how long would that have been, would it still be enjoyable, and would it have majorly improved the video? That's what I'm trying to weigh in my head. Of course, the fact that nobody had pulled it off without tool assistance before majorly affected my decision, and to this day nobody has pulled it off without assistance. I was thinking about this, though, and maybe the approach I took in a more recent challenge might please you. Thanks for your input, hopefully you enjoyed the video!
Nice! That final Bowser level looks like hell lmao By the way, have you played A Hat In Time? I highly recommend you check it out, it's a great platformer that also has lots of potential for cool challenges like this
It was kinda hellish, but it did make for an interesting challenge trying to actually pull that off. I have not personally played A Hat In Time, though I probably should! I'd do a challenge of that later, but I think the best ones have already been taken, sadly. Thanks for the comment, glad to see you stick around!
⚠️ The first place you start jumping are in the picture frames. So no, no one could beat super Mario 64 without jumping. Once you begin outside from peaches castle that's exactly where you start playing the game (FACT'S) so yes! Jumping in the picture frames does count because once your outside peaches castle time starts from there 🎮🎮
I don't consider the rollout flip to be a jump, since it has different properties from a jump and doesn't use the jump button. If I did ban rolling out, then the challenge would end immediately due to not being able to gain any height and not being able to enter any courses. Hopefully this explains my thought process!
That would be cool, and would also solve people's main problem with the DS version, but would also be an absolute ton of work - I don't think many people would be able to do that besides Kaze and he's quite busy with other projects at the moment. Still, I'd definitely be down for it!
It's likely you haven't. In that case, I'm glad I could expose you to something new and enjoyable! Hopefully the algorithm smiles on it - if not, then I'll simply move on to another idea.
Oh yeah, I should've expected someone would use this video that's over an hour long to fall asleep to. In that case, hopefully it did put you to sleep? I was worried the technical explanation might be too long and detailed. Thanks for the comment!
Very late to this video but since super Mario 64 DS was the first game I ever 100% I just had to watch, and I’m really glad I did. This was an amazing challenge! Glad to say I subscribed ^.^
Thank you, good to hear you enjoyed it! Funnily enough, I've never actually 100%'ed the game myself...I really should do that, maybe WITH jumping this time.
Thank you! Honestly, considering I didn't upload anything for this long, it's doing much better than I should've expected. I've gotta get on a grind, though. It was very difficult, but it was also a fun journey!
Thank you for the awesome entertaining video :) Biggest respect for doing this challenge, it must have taken a month to complete. Oh, and just 1 thing! Awesome detail that the sidebars change depending on the level you are currently in. Nice detail!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I don't remember how long it took, but I did spend a decent amount of time on it, a lot longer than a normal playthrough. Good to hear someone noticed the detail of the borders changing enough to comment on it, too, I did spend a decent amount of time making that work!
No worries, I can see how you might not find that out if you didn't play it much. I learned to appreciate it, though, especially the square egg you get from eating a crate. Thanks for the comment!
Wow, this was quite the journey! Can't blame you in the slightest for using save states, either. As long as you can do each of the steps individually I think save states are fine because they simply save you from a lot of tedium.
Yeah. I wasn't planning on not uploading for such a long period of time, but that's kinda what happened. Next video should come out a little faster than this one, I assure you. Thanks for sticking around!
Great job! I'm not sure if this is your best video, but it was still impressive. It's been a long time since I've played 64 DS, and I was impressed by several occasions where you seemed to do the impossible. The video was well paced, and I was surprised but happy with the references. Really, you being a MahDryBread fan makes a lot of sense! The question that most weighs on me, however, involved Heaven warps. How many stars become easily attainable if that was implemented in every stage?
I'm glad you did enjoy it, especially the references! Which parts do you feel like I should have changed? I'd like to hear detailed feedback if you're willing. As for the Heaven portal question... It depends on the stage. There are plenty of stages you'd want to use this with where it can't be done due to the stage having a death barrier or something else to prevent it, and some implementations of it are TAS-only to actually set up and make use of. If I had gotten everything it allows you to get, though, I'd have gotten a lot more stars, assuming I actually managed to pull it off. Hopefully this answers your question!
in case you didn't know, it's possible to get all 150 stars in SM64DS without pressing B with a mix of heaven's portals in the castle, boo and book bounces in Big Boo's Haunt and Big Boo Battle, and pretty much every other stage by using a glitch called the Remote Interaction Glitch (th-cam.com/video/yk9uoRYLgR4/w-d-xo.html at 32m47s), but to answer the question: it depends on where in the stage the heaven's portal spot is. If you were just able to warp to the top of any stage at any point then all stars would become trivial, however if you're only allowed to HP in certain spots then it might be that the spot is too far away to access the star
@@thewierdragonbaby4843 I'm aware, I've checked up on the challenge status in the past. While it is possible, people are still looking for non-RIG solutions to any stars that use them, since it would take between hundreds and thousands of years for each individual usage of the glitch. The method for getting up to the balcony in Big Boo's Haunt was really cool, though! Just not something I'd be able to pull off without assistance, so Luigi's staying locked up for quite a while. Thanks for the comments, you're quite knowledgeable about this subject!
@@NovemberJoy the majority of my knowledge about this game comes from watching videos by Really_Tall and Josh65536, but I also got some of it from actually TASing myself. I haven't done much, but I did manage to do BitS 0xB with the red coin star and switch star. However, I did actually learn something new from this video: 18:42 I never knew that after losing your hat you could just collect a star and toad would just give it back to you, so thank you for the new information!
@@NovemberJoy I apologize for the late reply. I believe the issues I had can be split into topics, segments of commentary being somewhat too dramatic and treating some situations as impossible when they're simply difficult. The first applies mostly to the use of terms like exact or frame perfect, when that may not be the case. It's been too long for me to procure timestamps at the moment, but in multiple examples other terms may have been more appropriate and accurate. The second refers especially to Heaven/Hell portal opportunities, but they aren't the only cases where you either admitted something was more effort than you'd like to put in, or declared it impossible altogether because you didn't try certain strategies. It's ok to have the former, and you've discussed the latter, but in this case the video is closer to Will NovemberJoy Beat Super Mario 64 DS Without Jumping rather than the human limit implied.
I want to say save states are valid if they cut out the tediousness. If you need to ram into a wall over and over to randomly have a single shot to make a jump, it's okay to savestate when the random chance works so you don't waste time doing nothing. However it is not okay when it reduces skill involved. Like if you fight a boss and you drop a savestate so you can try over and over to avoid one attack. That is a case where it wouldn't be okay unless it was absolutely necessary just so you could say it can be done even if it's not viable for a human to pull it off without tools.
I think I can generally agree with this perspective. It's because of this that I'd prefer to avoid save states whenever possible, but in this case I think I used them with proper discretion. Thanks for the feedback!
Trust me, I know the feeling. That's what drove me to start making them, after all! Maybe you'll end up following the same path too...Thanks for the comment!
Well, that's certainly one viewpoint...and an interesting one, since I actually have a couple of challenges that require or required significant amounts of grinding. Thanks for your input!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's often surprising how much tech there is in many games. I'm personally still surprised Melee has more things left to learn, considering that game has been played competitively for over 20 years now!
I dunno about a collab. This is a game from my childhood, though, and it's pretty high on my list as well, though! I hope you did enjoy the video in the end.
I'm assuming it isn't actually necessary in a regular playthrough with no challenges or glitches to unlock all the characters. I noticed that Luigi was absent in the last scene with Peach, so the game clearly does check if the characters are unlocked. It's also really weird that the game gives you a mario cap in the bowser fight when you aren't actually supposed to be able to get there without Mario.
It is not necessary to unlock the other characters at all - I finished the game on my first playthrough without unlocking power-ups, Luigi, or Wario, actually. It was interesting to see the final cutscene with Wario and not Luigi, though, since that combination's impossible without glitches! As for the Mario cap appearing in the final Bowser fight, the other two Bowser fights drop Mario caps for you to pick up if you make it to them while playing as Yoshi, so they most likely didn't bother disabling that code for the final Bowser fight you can't legitimately reach as Yoshi anyway. Good thing, otherwise this challenge would've failed at the last possible hurdle!
@NovemberJoy it's been a while for me but I thought you couldn't enter Bowser 1 without Mario, in order to get you to unlock him (it is still super Mario 64, not super Yoshi 64 lol). I seem to remember the trapdoor not opening of spitting yoshi back out and a message or something
@@Tahngarthor You can enter the level with Yoshi, but the door can't be opened by anyone other than Mario. That's how they force you to unlock Mario! It can be bypassed with glitches, though...
really good video on the whole, also save state usage is completely okay by me (and probably most of your audience at a guess) however you know when someone's gotten something even slightly wrong, you know that urge you get to point it out? I got that at 58:47 when you called OtR "Wing Mario Over the Rainbow" sorry I can't help it sometimes
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I guess I got it mixed up - in the Nintendo 64 version it's called "Wing Mario Over the Rainbow", but it's called "Over the Rainbow" in the DS version. I'm not sure why, since Mario's the only one who can fly through the course anyway, but that's how it is.
(CGP for corner ground pound)
On the things I did know, though:
On my DS (so no savestates at all) I have managed to get even more stars without jumping.
On top of your 81 stars, here's what I got:
BBH 100, I had to climb the stairs for a 3rd time in order to get enough coins 💀
LLL 5. You were right at 1:08:27 ! You can use this trick to get the first star, but not the one with the pole in the middle. This one still isn't even possible with TAS :(
DDD 100, where you have to get every coin from the black boxes and almost every coins from the skeeters at the start.
Here, I put his cap on and collect the star stuck in the black box
Btw, this means you can get 80 stars without using any heaven portals ! Though you still need one to get to BitS as Yoshi...
These are 21 additionnal stars, which means my score issss... 103 stars ! ummm somehow this doesn't add up and idk why lol
Now theoretically, it might be possible to get a few more stars:
WF 1 and 2, you can use CGP on King Whomp, it's still extremely stupid and precise, but at least you don't have to time it with the spinning platforms anymore, so I can see it being done.
15 stars away from the TAS score on version 1.1, and 24 stars away on 1.0
Finally, About BitS. I spent many hours searching for a setup to bring the goomba to the spinning platform, but the seesaw platform is just too chaotic. It's too hard for me at least. The rest of the level can be done pretty consistently though ! In fact, I've done a complete run of this game with only 1 B press.
And I am currently the WR holder :D
Out of 1 run D:
Well, that wraps up everything I wanted to say ! Once again, amazing video ! SM64DS doesn't sell as much as its N64 counterpart, but it's soooo fun to play around with it :)
While the SM64 ABC is an insane challenge for TASers, and the any% 0xA quest is still to this day going on, I feel like the SM64DS BBC is a challenge for RTA.
@@NovemberJoy No it's another even less active discord server lmao
..this shit is bananas

Now for the new stars:
WF 1 and 2: I used the elevator ground pound strat to gp King Whomp, it took a bit of practice but I eventually got it.
Agree 100%
True
Agreed. The question was if it was possible, not if you could do it in one go
@@SyncraticLucefernot to mention the amount of time per attempt would just be frustrating
RE: Save state use in a challenge like this:
There's a point where a challenge stops being "Am I, personally, capable of doing this difficult thing" (EG: Dark souls hitless) and becomes "Is it possible, within the mechanics of the game, to achieve this?" (EG:... well, Mario 64 jumpless.)
And when it reaches that point, when the difficulty moves to being less about execution, and more about the effort of trying Over and Over hoping for the RNG to be right? Yeah, tool assist away!
You've only got so much time, and we wanna know if it's Possible, even if highly improbable!
Also, the less time you spend headbutting a brick wall down, the more time you have for the next video of headbutting a New brick wall down.
I think this explanation makes sense - there is a lot of difficulty in execution as well, but there's also a difference between "You can totally beat this, but can I pull it off?" vs. "Is this even possible?" I'm glad it worked out, thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoyI agree
As long as he's open about the fact that he's doing it, I feel like there's no issue.
The baby penguin was like “I’m done with whatever the hell your trying to do. I’ll just come down myself.”
He had enough of being "stuck" up there, I suppose. I'm glad he did, because it would've taken a lot longer otherwise!
Yoo isaac pfp I just got done playing lol
I think the save state was valid. You've proven that you have the ability to perform the trick, the only limiting factor was time. You could've done this without save states, it just would've taken more time/attempts. So cutting out some of the extra fat after already proving it was possible and within your ability is acceptable for the purposes of this challenge.
I can work with this reasoning. I know I could've done that bit without save states, I just wanted to save time for the people watching live. I'll have to keep this in mind for later projects - thanks for the comment!
"Things might heat up a little as we enter Bowser's opening." 💀💀💀
Interpret that line however you will...even if it is taken from Nathaniel Bandy.
😭
the way you used savestates in this run was absolutely valid
A minute is a minute, you can't say it's only half
I just imagine Bowser maniacally laughend as he hangs Wario's painting. "Bwahahah, Mario has no chance of defeating me this time! I hung this painting ONE centimetre too high for him to reach! Nothing can stop me now!"
Little did he know Mario held a theoretical degree in physics and a deep hatred for them getting in his way...
Exactly

I think it’s hilarious that Luigi doesn’t show up by default in the final outro before the “The End” screen.
It is possible to play as Yoshi, but you have to clip oob multiple times.
Maybe it was a leftover from a beta where you can bring anyone to the final fight
@@Sonictails54321either that or the game uses that as a fail safe for cases like these where you somehow manage to get in without Mario

It's a pretty bland name for a star, but there's only so much you can do with no Mario and no wall kicks.
I see, makes sense. Thanks for the feedback, and hopefully you enjoyed!
The watch for Rolling rocks part had me LMAO nice one
I'm glad someone else appreciated that joke too, I spent a bit of time trying to get it accurate without sounding like mockery. Thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoy Masterfully crafted imo!
Its quite fitting that yoshi was the solution to getting past that ledge towards the end there.
I thought so too. Doesn't mean it was an easy solution, though. Thanks for the comment!
I know this video is fake because my friend in school told me that you unlock Waluigi by beating the game without jumping
Nuh uhhhh
That's a lie! I have this game 🎮🎮
@NovemberJoy welp my cousin works for Nintendo and he added Marth from Fire Emblem to this game, which you can get if you beat this game without jumping.
I didn't see you unlock Marth after this unfortunately :/
Idk can you
idk 🤔
Turns out you can.
@@NovemberJoy no no no. You can tho. Obviously.
Just watch the video?
That was absolutely insane and way more in depth than I was expecting. So weird seeing the credits with Wario unlocked but not Luigi. One thing that killed me though was the chain chomp star - I'm pretty sure there's a breakable brick block somewhere after the 4th level (rematch with the king bomb guy) that has a giant mushroom in it. You can use that to instantly destroy the pope holding the chomp in place
Ok I misspelled pole but the idea of the pope with a chain chomp is funny so I'm not changing it
Glad you enjoyed it, this was a long time in the making!
Man, I'm LOVING all these 10~k sub channels popping up in my feed! Subbed and looking forward to more!
Hey, glad I still got to pop up in someone's feed! I'm gonna try to release some more videos before too long, it's been a while already. Hopefully you'll enjoy whatever you end up seeing!
I was contemplating about whether to try this on console,
but the Yoshi Goomba juggling at the end looks like a nightmare.
21:53
Oh yeah, you need the get the Bowser Sub Star or you can’t access Bowser in the Fire Sea
Yeah, that could be a barrier for challenge runs. Thankfully, it usually isn't. Thanks for the comment!
I can’t believe you actually pulled that off. You madman. I am thoroughly impresssed.
I'm glad you enjoyed, it did take quite a while to pull off!
Wet-dry world is one of my favorite areas! I love the background art of what looks like an ancient submerged city, it looks so cool!
Yeah, same here! I also like it as a water level where the water is optional, involving a lot of cool maneuvers to get around without using the water!
Imo my judge for what's a legit run or not is: "does it stick with the rules set?" and "does it stay within the spirit of the challenge?"
If it sticks with the current rules set then it's all good there.
The Watch for rolling rocks bit was so genius lmao, great vid, subbed
I'm glad you enjoyed it, I was trying to strike a delicate balance between joke and reference. Thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoy As long as it's possible to be done in game that's all that matters to me.
18:47 I played Mario 64 DS SO many times but I never knew that you could get you cap back this way, lmao.
I found out about it as a kid while messing around. Good thing, since I ended up making use of it. Thanks for the comment!
@@NovemberJoy huh ok, how does it work on Wii virtual console and just that tho?
@@redshell9205 It's kind of interesting - the Wii VC is a very weird emulator, and one thing it gets wrong is floating point numbers. As a result, the perfect cycle actually rounds in such a way that the lava platforms rise extremely slowly. There are more detailed explanations out there, but hopefully that one was understandable!
@@NovemberJoy ye it kinda is. Not sure why you’d get something already in the game wrong but hey I understand.
Man SM64DS is such a classic, it's a shame it is just a repaint of SM64 with some new stuff cus I absolutely loved this game as a kid and wish more people talked about it.
14:20 "I made sure to give Bowser my complaints for not making this course handicap accessible" lmao.
48:26 "First we need to talk about the afterlife" is the new "First we need to talk about parallel universes." xD
1:00:44 I sometimes forget that Bowser canonically designs the courses in these games lol.
@@NovemberJoytheres a 3ds circle pad patch and an analog mod on PC
Theres actually unused dialog for getting there as Yoshi (normally you cant)
I wouldnt worry about using a save state.
I was waiting for the watch for rolling rocks reference, lol
I'm glad someone appreciated this reference! I was trying to go for something humorous without sounding insulting or disrespectful, so I hope I accomplished that part too!
Imagine, the big star from the final Bowser fight is usually obtained from a triple jump ☠️
That's the cool way to do it, though I usually just jump for it...or rollout flip for it, in this case!
Thanks for the feedback - it was difficult even with save states, so I'm glad people were fine with it!
Hey, thanks for that! I'll try to get more videos and stuff out soon, it has been too long already.
would've been nice if there was a star counter in the edge
I definitely should have. I'll keep that in mind for later videos, thanks for the feedback!
Edge
This was cool. As another challenge idea maybe you could do Mario 64 DS without running. This would also cut you off from advanced moves like long jumps, slide kicks and dives.
Hmm...this is kind of an interesting idea, I'll have to see what I can do with it. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@NovemberJoy you’re welcome
29:46 yooo, i wasn't expecting a MahDryBread reference
11:45 a very specific upward shot with a cannon should allow you to just barely reach the ledge.
Oh hey, didn't expect to see you here! I did eventually manage the specific upward shot I needed later on in the challenge, by the way - it was an important part of scraping together 80 stars from the options I had left. Thanks for the comment!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video that much! I'm thrilled that you'd even consider something like that, though I'd have to brush up on how TH-cam handles captions as well since I've never touched them before. Thanks for the comment - if this is something you're still interested in, maybe we can get in touch some other way?
The wait was entirely worth it, I really enjoyed all the challenges you faced, and i hope the Reptile Ruuumbleeeeeeee.......continues on! ❤
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed as much as you did!
Bro i was watching like half the video, convinced you were some 700k-800k youtuber judging by the quality of the video before i saw the sub count - mad respect!
Thanks! I don't see myself ever reaching that level, but I'm flattered you thought that highly of the video!
Nice!
That final Bowser level looks like hell lmao
By the way, have you played A Hat In Time?
Great work! Excited to see the next run, but take your time!
Alright, I'll take the time I need to make it good, but I promise it'll come out a lot faster than this one did!
A rom hack where mario 64 ds was remade on the n64 would be so meta and funny
That would be cool, and would also solve people's main problem with the DS version, but would also be an absolute ton of work - I don't think many people would be able to do that besides Kaze and he's quite busy with other projects at the moment. Still, I'd definitely be down for it!
I think I have never seen someone do dis challenge before. It was a great video. I hope that the algorithm picks it up soon.
It's likely you haven't. In that case, I'm glad I could expose you to something new and enjoyable! Hopefully the algorithm smiles on it - if not, then I'll simply move on to another idea.
51:07 “hopefully i didn’t put you guys to sleep” brother that is why i have the video playing
Oh yeah, I should've expected someone would use this video that's over an hour long to fall asleep to. In that case, hopefully it did put you to sleep? I was worried the technical explanation might be too long and detailed. Thanks for the comment!

Wow, this was quite the journey! Can't blame you in the slightest for using save states, either. As long as you can do each of the steps individually I think save states are fine because they simply save you from a lot of tedium.
I was hoping people would be okay with the save state usage in a few parts of this run. Thanks for the comment, hope you enjoyed!
bro's back???
Yeah. I wasn't planning on not uploading for such a long period of time, but that's kinda what happened. Next video should come out a little faster than this one, I assure you. Thanks for sticking around!
It's absolutely nuts that it's possible to beat SM64DS in 0 B presses.
And it actually looks rta viable, while being incredibly brutal at the end.
That was what attracted me to this run - it looked RTA-viable, yet still pretty brutal, and interesting as well. Thanks for the comment!
Agreed. In general, I think it's okay to use save states as long as you title the video "Is it possible to...", not "I beat X without...".
I think I can generally agree with this perspective. It's because of this that I'd prefer to avoid save states whenever possible, but in this case I think I used them with proper discretion. Thanks for the feedback!
Yes. This will feed my unhealthy obsession of "can you beat" videos 😍
Trust me, I know the feeling. That's what drove me to start making them, after all! Maybe you'll end up following the same path too...Thanks for the comment!
Save states are totally fair.
In the wise words of someone else:
“Grinding is cringe. Cheating is based.”
Well, that's certainly one viewpoint...and an interesting one, since I actually have a couple of challenges that require or required significant amounts of grinding. Thanks for your input!
This was tons of fun to watch !
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It's crazy how there's still tech I didn't know about in this game. I played it so much as a kid lol. This was amazingly impressive!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's often surprising how much tech there is in many games. I'm personally still surprised Melee has more things left to learn, considering that game has been played competitively for over 20 years now!
@@NovemberJoy Oh totally! I'm glad TH-cam recommended this video. Keep up the good work.
I wish we could collab, this is my favorite game of all time!
I thought you said twirling wasn't allowed.
It is allowed - the part that's banned is holding B to fall more slowly, since that's the jump button. Hope that explains it!
@@NovemberJoy explained it it has. Thank you
really good video on the whole, also save state usage is completely okay by me (and probably most of your audience at a guess)
however you know when someone's gotten something even slightly wrong, you know that urge you get to point it out? I got that at 58:47 when you called OtR "Wing Mario Over the Rainbow" sorry I can't help it sometimes
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I guess I got it mixed up - in the Nintendo 64 version it's called "Wing Mario Over the Rainbow", but it's called "Over the Rainbow" in the DS version. I'm not sure why, since Mario's the only one who can fly through the course anyway, but that's how it is.
