2018 Infiniti QX80 First Drive Review In 4K

  • The largest Infiniti ever made gets a refresh for 2018 with a sharper exterior and some minor interior tweaks. While it still can't match the level of gadgetry found in some of the competition, it is still a screaming deal in the luxury segment with solid towing ability and a powerful V8 engine.

    10:55 Disappointing that they did not update and upgrade the infotainment tech (see the bullshit 10 year-old trip computer), and no panoramic roof, and no sliding 2nd row seats. They just fixed the front end, resting on their laurels. The Infiniti brand is not good enough to get away with such laziness and cost-cutting. It needs more work, and they know it.

      well, at least they upgraded the system to their newest version that matches other models... As a QX60 owner, I would be very happy if they can offer Caplay and Android Auto through a software update to this existing system, I will then be using the Carplay interface 99% of the time and forget about the ugly native interface.

      Bitcoin University since when did a full sized SUV have sliding rear seats? I’m perfectly fine with just the roll down seats much better for cargo space when needed. Do agree on you about the infotainment screen that it’s a bit outdated, but that doesn’t bother me too much anyways...

A 38.5 to 1 is not moving you anywhere. Great review however, I will use this when I market this SUV on the lot. Please update me. Thanks

    We have the short wheelbase platinum escalade, and when that 3rd row is up u have barely any room, but the esv is a bit to long! So it sucks trying to stay in the middle, but our next suv in the summer will probably be the 18 navigator black label! Hopefully price drops under 100k so I can buy it at the depreciation price! Amazing suvs, I do feel the escalade is most aggressive looking and luxurious out the bunch, but that navi is so nice aswell!

I am currently looking for a new car and this 2018 QX isn't even an option.....there is no way I would buy a "refresh".....a QX would have definitely been an option had they redesigned the entire SUV.

    Some people think the curvy, flowing interior design looks dated, but personally I like it a lot. It feels more warm, inviting, and personal, rather than clinically precise and formulaically perfect. The visible build quality is high enough, so it's not quirky in a bad way like Maserati or Bentley, it's just more Mercedes than Audi in its interior design language. But also more austere than Mercedes, not in a cheap way but in a sporty way, like BMW. At Infiniti's pricepoint, I'd definitely get this over a base Escalade or Navigator. The Lexus LS isn't in the same size class, and the Mercedes GLS is in a different price class, so those two are its only real competition.
    As for the infotainment, it's simple to use, lag-free, can be mostly used without taking focus off the road once you get used to it, and it's pretty enough. A lot of Nissan/Infiniti's cars that use its new Android-knockoff infotainment systems get rid of the extensive secondary and tertiary button controls that its 2009-2014 scrolling-based system used. It's great that they were able to keep the old physical controls when they switched to the new UI, and if you want to fiddle with a touchscreen instead while driving because you think buttons look bad, do us all a favor and don't drive. There's still a perfectly useful and intuitive touchscreen for when you're parked or at a light.
    The only problem I have with this car is the new Nissan Armada. The global Nissan Patrol was always a very luxurious car, but it existed in America as the Infiniti QX56/QX80 because Nissan USA already had a separate full-size SUV, and wanted to make back their investment in R&D before replacing it with the global Patrol. But the Patrol still needed to enter the US market somehow, so it entered as an Infiniti, which was perfectly plausible because it's already luxurious enough to wear the luxury badge. Now, though, the Nissan Armada and Patrol are exactly the same car, which makes the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX80 exactly the same car. So as nice of a car as it is, well-worth the $80k IMO, it's even nicer when it's an unbeatable luxury bargain at 60% of the price from Nissan. Fully loaded, Platinum trim level Nissan interiors have moved so far upmarket (Armada/Patrol, Titan, Murano, Quest, Maxima) in the past few years, that a lot of Infinitis no longer have any reason to exist as Infinitis until the interiors get updated to be even nicer. Save your money and get the Nissan with every option checked.

    Infiniti and Nissan have been disappointing. With all the changes that Honda and Toyota have done. With smaller company’s like Kia and Mazda stepping it up, Nissan has just sat on their hands. Their cars are getting old and it’s kind of insulting they keep selling the same stuff when everyone else is surpassing them.

      Jay idk what nissans your looking at but Nissan is as they say innovative! They are literally always bringing in new stuff whether it’s tech or aesthetic. I mean damn they’ve created a reminder type thing that reminds you if you left some stuff in the car you were suppose to take out by making the car chime. Don’t remember what it’s called but it’ll be on the new ‘19 Altima. Standard on all cars by 2022. I absolutely hate the Armada, so ugly they do need to do better with that car. I do agree Infiniti needs to improve a lot. Most of their cars interiors are so dated for a luxury brand.

    • @occultustactical6138

      Not to mention Hyundai with the new Palisade/Kia Telluride which have killer technology... like sending you a text message when you leave your crumb cruncher in the third row; intercom system between the driver and third row passengers; every self driving mode available - standard! Infinity needs to step back, stop what they're doing and reinvent the QX80 for 2021/22. Take your time and do it right.

  • @junaki3430
    @junaki3430 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Even though Escalade starts at 73 and goes up to 100 the Yukon denali runs right up there with the Infiniti at 68 and tops off right at 80 with options...I wanna see u compare those two

  • @EpicDman321
    @EpicDman321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    i was hoping for a little more out of this refresh. When I had seen the monograph concept, I really thought that this would be the long-awaited refresh to challenge the mercedes and the new navigator, even the escalade. While some of the new items were welcome, we are still missing many different features that can be found on the nissan armada that havent made it into this model. Why? I had the fortune of owning one, and it was very nice, but not near as good as the new navigator, and the escalade.

    It turned out a very good video review 4K, a decent car of its segment! The author of the video - excellent!

    True story: I'm in the process of closing on a 2018 Lexus LX570 and I also cross-shopped the Infinity QX80. Infinity lot had nearly a dozen 2018 QX80s on their lot with nearly $10,000 off window sticker. Lexus dealer had zero LX570s and numerous GX, RX, and NXs. I test drove the QX80 not the LX570 but I decided on the LX570. The heritage and reputation of the Land Crusier was the deciding factor for me.

    People complain too much about the infotainment... as long as the current infotainment works, it’s all good! Most of the time the more you add unnecessary stuff, the more you get issues

    If they put in the off-road tech such as rear diff lockers and terrain management that is found in the overseas Patrol offerings then it would be worth it but unfortunately it isn't worth it. The cheaper price is there but there is too much missing from it. A modern entertainment system is needed along with more seat adjustments.

    7 years old already, they should have updated the center LCD display. Navigator over this any day of the week.
