Excellent video Rob, and my favourite University in Australia. I love the atmosphere, the beautiful buildings and the lovely gardens. I am super excited to have started my PhD at USYD this year.
Currently doing my master's here. I'm studying education (most courses I took focus on educational psychology and something related to behavior, PBS, motivation, also a bit of neuroscience and human/brain development). Highly recommended for those highly capable at reading between the lines. You'll be challenged to use that skill to find the practicality of everything from the courses in real life settings (it's like solving a puzzle). Teaching staff is also caring and engaging. Overall, really enjoy my experience here and can't wait for my next semester (hope I can continue studying PhD here at USyd)!
I’m heading to USYD for my first year of study in the upcoming weeks. This little scoop into USYD has been really comforting and reassuring. 😍❤️ (Edit: Thanks for liking my post 😍)

@@ChoosingYourUni Please tell me which university should I choose to study as I am more interested in core aerospace engineering than mechanical so which uni will be the best for job opportunities?
Great video! I’ve received offers to study law at USYD, UQ, Monash and satisfy entrance requirements for the ANU. Just wondering if you have any recommendations? I note USYD is the highest ranked undergraduate law program (given Melbourne only do postgraduate law).
A Life That Travels thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I guess all those things are quite important. Previously I’d say the prestige of the uni would have been the most important. That’s what motivated me to put in some effort to reach the cutoff. However, since looking into the uni (assessment style etc), it’s apparent that the teaching style is very theoretical, thus the majority of assessments are closed book exams. I prefer practical styles of teaching which is why I’m worried that I may not enjoy the course? Prior to this, I was studying law at MQ where the teaching style was more practical. I’ve heard UNSW is great (practical way of teaching + open book exams). However, I bombed the LAT 😪😂 so my application was not competitive enough for there. I live in Sydney so I’m leaning towards usyd or ANU. I Went up to Brisbane to look at st Lucia campus last week and as beautiful as it was, felt a little too far from home (watched your UQ video before heading up so thanks for that too).
Sorry for the delay in replying - this got buried! It sounds to me like you're researching things in the right way. Remember that you can always start at one university (e.g. Sydney) and move to another partway through your degree (e.g. UNSW, if that's where you REALLY want to study). Any of USyd, UNSW, UQ and ANU are all excellent programs I'm sure with your thorough approach you'd make the most out of any of those.
A Life That Travels Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve kept up with your channel and aware of changes so no need to apologise. I ended up studying at usyd and I generally enjoy it. It’s got great academics and small classes. However, I see what you mean when you talk about the lower student satisfaction rate. I think the university needs to depart from its old-fashioned theoretical approach with emphasis on heavy, closed-book exams. I look forward to future updates in videos. :)
Hey! I've been watching your videos for a long time, and while this is an older video I was hoping for some advice. I'm planning to study physics next year at an undergraduate level, and I'm trying to decide between USYD and UNSW. Any recommendations or are both universities at similar level? Thanks so much! :)
I feel like both unis are at a similar level when it comes to physics, both in teaching and research. What to look at imo is their specialisations - are there particular areas of physics you’re interested in (eg quantum, or applied etc) and does one of those unis have a strength in a specialisation that interests you more (at least initially, as interests can change as you get further into a program).

im fr stuck on whether to do design here or UNSW, both have positives and negatives for graphic and web design but USYD has software development too so its HARDDDD
Great video! I am a finance & marketing student currently studying at Melbourne. I got conditional offer to study at both USYD and UNSW starting 2020, I’m struggling to choose as I’ve heard many different things about both of them. I really love the campus of USYD but have heard negative things about the master of commerce program there, and I feel quite intimidated by the 30 something failure rate.... Should I be concerned about those at all?
You’re picking between “excellent” and “excellent”. Sometimes life smiles on us and gives us these kinds of choices. The reason it’s hard for you is because you’re standing at a fork in the road and can see two separate futures as possible. That’s hard because you don’t know which will be “better” than the other. But that’s life. You can never know. So pick one. Pick based on objective (rather than emotional) measures. Like which program offers the exact courses you’re interested in. Or which one offers more internships or extracurricular activities that interest you. Or if you prefer to study closer to the beach or closer to the city. Regardless of which one you choose, there will be ups and downs. Failures and successes. It’s more important what you do with THOSE than the exact path you choose. (But that’s another story). Good luck!
hi, I also have received an offer letter from USYD for a Master of Commerce and I am here to ask for your review before I invest money and time there, please reply, thank you
It’s a solid degree and obviously a top ranking university. The only thing I’ve heard from international students in that discipline is that they’re surprised just how many international students there are in those business masters programs. That’s not a bad thing imo, there’s heaps of different perspectives and cultures which is great. But if you’re expecting to meet a lot of Aussies in class, you’re probably less likely to in that degree at that Uni.
@@ChoosingYourUni i see! Then i wanna know how does MQ rank in general? Is it a good uni, business/accounting major wise. Between Rmit and MQ, which do you think is better? I'm torn between the two...
@@5lovelygirl5 Ah! Very good questions! Both RMIT and MQ have strong business programs. What discipline in business are you looking at? Finance, accounting, marketing, business admin? For me, the reputation and academics are only one part of the university experience. After all, you're only studying part of the time! So what else is most important to you? Job outcomes? Fun uni life? Clubs? Overseas exchange opportunities? And what kind of place do you want to study in? Melbourne and Sydney are very different cities - tell me what you're interested in and I can give you my view. Sport? Leadership opportunities? Culture? Festivals? Work? Outdoors? Many many questions, but the more specific you can be the more I can give you an answer that is right for you.
@@ChoosingYourUni A Life That Travels thank you for answering! To be frank, I'm still a bit unsure about which i should choose, finance and econ, accouting or just business admin. I like econ but i also want to include disciplines like accounting and finance (and maybe a bit of law). I do primarily focus on work and job outcomes, like will i be able to find a job after i get my degree. I'm also taking into consideration about the living cost...which is more expensive, Sydney or Melbourne? RMIT is in the middle of Melbourne so i might have to live far from there but MQ is more in the suburb so i believe it isn't as costly? And one more, the flexibility of the school's schedule. Will i be able to work part with the school's schedule and such?
It looks like what you're after is a flexible degree that has electives so you can choose from a range of subjects while you're narrowing down exactly what you want to specialise in. From what I understand, both RMIT and MQ have pretty flexible degrees (including the options of taking part of your class online), which would allow you to work at either uni. Yes, RMIT is in the middle of Melbourne, which has some advantages. Transport to get there is very easy, so you can pretty well live anywhere near a train line and get to the university without too much difficulty. MQ is more isolated - it does have a metro train line now, but because it isn't a central location you might have to change trains to get there. However, the whole area around Macquarie has really grown in the past 10 years. Enormously. There is HEAPS of accommodation, businesses, shops, etc. It is really a whole business district in itself now and is continuing to grow. Both Melbourne and Sydney are quite expensive cities, so I don't know if that will be the deciding factor for you. Outside of university, what are you interested in?
Hi, I have received offer to study Master of Occupational Therapy from University of Sydney and University of Canberra. May I know which university has the best quality of study and learning experience/skills for this particular course? I have been struggling to get in contact with students who had graduated from these universities to provide their insights. Any valuable opinions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
USYD is by far the more “prestigious” of the universities, however UC has been the “fastest moving” uni in Australia in global rankings for the past 2 years. I can’t comment on the courses themselves but would make the general observation that Sydney ans Canberra are very different cities. If you’re a “big city” person I’m not sure you’ll love Canberra. However if you’re looking for a more relaxed, outdoors place then Canberra has advantages over Sydney. Just a few things to consider!
Hi, Could you please share your views on studying at Uni of Mel vs Uni of Sydney for Masters of Teaching. Which is good and better overall for 'teaching degree'...
Hello ! I am interested in the nutrition and dietetics and I understand that usyd has a bachelor of science and master of dietetics programme, wondering which universities do you recommend for this field ? I am deciding between, usyd, umelb, uq,Adelaide, Deakin, Monash
I'll hopefully be starting here next year in Education (Secondary). Doing Advanced Studies for it too. What are your thoughts on Advanced Studies? Are they just a cheap 'cram' or worth it for the experience?
Thanks for this. That’s the first time I’ve had a look at the Advanced Studies programs and I think this could be a great program for the right person. Uni is a great opportunity to try new things and to push your boundaries in a low-risk setting. I think this sort of program could be really useful if you’re not 100% sure of what you want to do in future, or if you’re genuinely curious about pushing yourself to be the best you can be. The program looks like a great opportunity to deepen your experience, academic knowledge or leadership skills in a range of areas. But it looks like something where you get out what you put in - if it’s just to do the minimum to “have” the title, I don’t think you’ll get the most out of it. My rule for life is: stay open, stay present. Take a positive attitude into something like this and you could have some cool opportunities come your way.
Which uni would you recommend for a journalism program? Usyd or any other Australian uni? Also can anyone tell about the student life especially as for an Indian student?

@@ChoosingYourUni International business, in best case more practically oriented but also interested in good reputation and of course as an exchange student great experience, exploring the best of the country - How much would you say is the price difference of living costs of these thx mate
Sydney and Melbourne are more expensive cities than Brisbane (UQ). All these unis are good for IB. All have access to major airports to easy to travel around Australia. Nicest for weather is UQ. Travelling up the coast from Brisbane is also epic. UTS is the most practical and industry oriented. USYD and Monash are huge unis - you’d have a great experience there too, but overall my pick for a one semester exchange would be UQ.
I have unconditional offers for Master of commerce(extension) with major in business analytics from USYD and UNSW but i am confused as to which one would be a better fit in terms of overall prestige and employment prospects between the two universities?
Hey, I am applying to USYD, Uni of Melbourne and ANU for Msc in management. I'm an international student applying from India so it's a huge investment financially. I am aware they're all top ranked universities and my goal is to get into management consulting preferably in the MBB post my master's. Any recommendations/tips for my application? And being in Aus yourself how would you describe the job market for international students? Am I making the right call by choosing Aus?
Those are 3 very highly ranked and reputable universities and programs. The difference to me is that management consulting at ANU will logically be more closely tied to Government (since all the consulting companies in Canberra do the bulk of their work with government), whereas it's probably more diverse in Sydney and Melbourne. The job market has shifted in the past few months - the government has been working to reduce inflation, essentially by slowing demand in the economy. That's starting to flow through to businesses, particularly consumer businesses. There has also been a tightening of student visa issuances (although that does not seem to have affected the group of 8 unis yet). Overall the level of education in Australia is excellent, but the work/post-study work visa side of things is tightening.
I've been accepted into the University of Sydney and Melbourne for architecture and I am REALLY torn between the two. Never been to Melbourne but friends and family say it will suit me better because I am very creative person but others also say I would fit in better in Sydney. Any opinions on which one I should choose?
Both excellent universities with well regarded programs. Congratulations. Sydney and Melbourne are different as cities and both have good options for creative ventures: remember that creativity depends 100% on you and how much you put in! Melbourne is considered more artistic but you can succeed in both cities. Sydney is more expensive than Melbourne. Accommodation is much easier in Melbourne right now than in Sydney. I don't know you so can't definitely say which one will suit you better - if your family and friends say Melbourne is a better choice for you, their advice would be more accurate than mine 👍
That depends on your perspective. Sydney is warmer overall. The Winter is not as cold. Melbourne has more extremes than Sydney - more very hot days and very cold days. Both are nice though!
The university website should have links to all the student accommodation affiliated with the uni. Search USYD and accommodation. There’s tonnes out there now - UrbanNest, Flatmates.com.au etc Will do a video on finding accommodation soonish
What do you know about USYD for a double Law and Arts (Criminology) degree? USYD and ANU are my tops, and I've just applied through E12 to go to Sydney
That Uysd program is very popular. A solid degree and well recognised. Very different to ANU, which is MUCH smaller and intimate. Both have their upsides and both are strong choices 👍
Hi! I got a 100% scholarship from university of Sydney today! I plan to do bachelor of science there but I heard that it gives out scholarships easily it’s nothing special and that it’s not that special uni. Please help!! (I’m an international student)
Hey man! I’ve watched your University reviews for awhile and I really appreciate the work you do. I had a quick question regarding University Ranking.. I attend a Go8 University studying Law/Commerce. Law is ranked within the top 30 in the world and Commerce is ranked in the top 35-ish. However, from doing more research I’ve realised that perhaps my current institution isn’t as prestigious as the other universities in Australia. Should this bother me at all?
I’d preferably attend USyd given the opportunity, as I know they’re a great institution but I live in a different state and financially it couldn’t be accomodating
No, this shouldn't bother you at all. Anything inside the top 100 in the world is awesome. Picture this: you're sitting at a job interview. After the first 2 minutes you've talked about the degree you've done (and, in fact, the interviewer already knows about your uni/degree because they read your CV). What are you going talk about next? Getting a great job...the job you actually WANT... is as much related to the stuff you do outside the classroom as what and where you studied. Maybe it's even more important. That's why doing things like student exchange, leadership programs, volunteering, joining clubs, working part time, travelling etc. are all so important while you're at uni. Focus on those things and a. you'll have a lot more fun at uni, and b. you'll have a much better story to tell when you're going for jobs.
Aw, thank you so much for your reply! I worked super hard to get into the Uni I’m at now and your advice really resonated with me. Instead of being cynical about an already, fantastic university, I should be making the most of my time there. Thank you :) All this ranking data can make even a great university seem lacklustre when it’s not Cambridge or Harvard. Somewhat makes you feel like your employability is harshly affected, which I know is absurd. Hahaha
@@christian491 👍👍👍 You're not alone man, the system is all about pumping out that information. The unis like making out that rankings are the be all and end all. Of course they do that - it's what gets them more students, grant money and prestige! Likewise, schools and careers counsellors want to get their students into the "best universities" because that's what THEY get judged on. The sooner you start ignoring all that the better. I heard an awesome quote today: "The meaning in life is to find your gift. The purpose in life is to give it away". Go make the most out of everything uni it has to offer. If you're in your twenties you've got tonnes of time to work it all out - years and years and years. At this stage in your life there's no such things as mistakes, just stuff that you learn that makes you better.
You’re the best! Thank you again for all of your kind words. You’re 110% right with everything you’ve mentioned. And besides, I’ve gotten into the best undergraduate law course my State offers so I don’t know how I can still be mad at myself for not achieving a higher standard than that, haha. You’ve noted that you’ve worked within higher education for awhile, can I ask what you were doing?

Hi Mairi, Yes there’s probably plenty you need to know - do you want to PM me on Instagram (@alifethattravels) and I’m happy to address any specific questions you have?
USYD law has one of the highest entry marks in the country for local students. I’m not sure about international students but I would guess you need strong results.
Hello,i was wondering whether USYD is good for English courses for international students. Since i think the USYD location and and ppl in there are pretty good
Hi, thanks so much for this video. I'm an international student with an offer to study a Master of Social Justice (Human Rights). Do you know much about this degree? I'd love to know any feedback you may have
I don’t know that exact degree but for that topic area I would certainly rank USYD highly. It’s got a long history of strong academic performance and student movements in those areas. Some of Australias leading social justice and human rights advocates and jurists came through there, so it would be one of my top picks if I were looking for that discipline.
How difficult do you think it is for an American in year 12 to get into the Nutrition and Dietetics program? I wouldn’t be applying as an international student though, due to dual citizenship, so does that change my chances? Is this university a good choice for international students?
If it's this program it looks quite competitive: www.uac.edu.au/undergraduate/courses/usyd/513965.shtml That doesn't mean you won't get in, just that the entry requirements are pretty high. USyd has a very strong health sciences faculty, so certainly for quality of education and opportunities it makes a good choice. Be sure to check which campus this is taught on - I know some of the other health subjects are taught on other campuses far from the city centre. Not necessarily a bad thing but something to definitely be aware of!
Hi ..thank you fr solving the queries of d perplexed minds who r going to start their career soon..i want to do masters in business n management..plz suggest best of university in australia in limited budget Regards
If your budget is limited you should look at a regional university - Newcastle, Charles Sturt, Wollongong, Charles Darwin, Federation Uni, James Cook, Southern Queensland, Sunshine Coast, Tasmania. These will be less expensive than the metropolitan universities.
Karan Bhandari I think you need to do some of your own research to begin with - your question is too broad. The only way of winning a scholarship is to be proactive, so research is a good way of developing that skill.
I think graduate employability is a complex issue. Employment is some areas is very much about the degree - highly technical areas or very niche areas. But so often, getting the job you really want is much more about YOU and the things you've done outside the classroom - the experiences you've had, things you've been involved in, soft skills you've gained etc. So yes, employers definitely look at this but it is not the be all and end all.
You'll need to be a lot more specific than that - it depends what you're currently studying, how far through you are and what you're hoping to get into.
Not a friendly place to be. As a former international student from a reputable university in my home country, Usyd was a let down. I felt like just another number. I will choose small class sizes and quality instruction over “prestige” next time.
You're not the first person I've seen who's had that feedback. It is a HUGE university so it is definitely easy to get lost there - for some people "prestige" is everything, for others it's the quality of the interaction. Bond and Notre Dame have the smallest class sizes, and regional universities often have closer personal connections between teachers and students.
My dream University. Hope everyone who has a lucky chance to study there study as hard as they can and to find a way to change the world become a better place.
I have been accepted into this University..

My top choice for university. Applying to their post graduate Nursing Program. Hope I get in. Thank you for the video! Very informative.
Good luck!!!
My alma mater! I just finished up my pass degree here at USyd and I'm already getting nostalgic watching this video.
Congratulations!
Wow. I can not believe I am saying this but I actually miss going to campus. Studying online is a pain.
Yeah I hear ya!
recieved my offer for usyd last month, so excited to start here next month. Thanks for the video!! Very informative, loved the insight from students.
Great!
Excellent video Rob, and my favourite University in Australia. I love the atmosphere, the beautiful buildings and the lovely gardens. I am super excited to have started my PhD at USYD this year.
Congrats! What’s your PhD on?
@@ChoosingYourUni Thanks, Rob; it is in structural engineering.
Love the advice! Thanks for the contribution!
I’m heading to USYD for my first year of study in the upcoming weeks. This little scoop into USYD has been really comforting and reassuring. 😍❤️

Congrats!
Congratulations.
What’s most important to you?
Prestige? Extracurricular opportunities? Campus life?
What are you interested in outside of uni?
A Life That Travels
Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.
THANKS FOR INFOMATION on UoS REGARDS FROM TEXAS USA!
Glad it was helpful!
Also, is there some other aspect of the uni - like it’s location, clubs and societies etc that appeal to you more.
@@ChoosingYourUni Thanks so much! Appreciate it legend! :)

@@ChoosingYourUni Hi Rob! Yeah! Annnnd! Exciting!!!!
im fr stuck on whether to do design here or UNSW, both have positives and negatives for graphic and web design but USYD has software development too so its HARDDDD
Adding in software probably has some career benefits imo - opens up more possibilities...
Good luck!
hi, I also have received an offer letter from USYD for a Master of Commerce and I am here to ask for your review before I invest money and time there, please reply, thank you
Are you only looking at USYD?
@@ChoosingYourUni yes
It’s a solid degree and obviously a top ranking university. The only thing I’ve heard from international students in that discipline is that they’re surprised just how many international students there are in those business masters programs. That’s not a bad thing imo, there’s heaps of different perspectives and cultures which is great. But if you’re expecting to meet a lot of Aussies in class, you’re probably less likely to in that degree at that Uni.
Can you do Macquarie University next, please? :)
I have MQ on the list of unis to review in the next few months :)
Just a few things to consider!
i will be coming this year to this fantastic dream university for my bachelor in accounting
Congratulations!
Hi,
Could you please share your views on studying at Uni of Mel vs Uni of Sydney for Masters of Teaching. Which is good and better overall for 'teaching degree'...
Both excellent, reputable unis. 👍
ThankU! I'm hoping anyway. Now to cleaning house then pack Saxophone. And out the door. No music where I live. 👌😀🎶
Love that!
Don't worry there's nothing personal here. 😀💃🎶👌.
Hello ! I am interested in the nutrition and dietetics and I understand that usyd has a bachelor of science and master of dietetics programme, wondering which universities do you recommend for this field ? I am deciding between, usyd, umelb, uq,Adelaide, Deakin, Monash
All great unis that you've listed there.
@@ChoosingYourUni Thanks!

Both super strong unis. Personally, UNSW for me for that.
USYD vs UQ for computer science and in terms of overall factor. Which is better?
Hi Jason, both are excellent. I would look at the compared.edu.au stats for both, particularly around student experience.
Is Sydney generally hotter and has less comfortable climate than Melbourne?
That depends on your perspective.
Sydney is warmer overall. The Winter is not as cold.
Melbourne has more extremes than Sydney - more very hot days and very cold days.
Both are nice though!
Howdy from Houston Texas! Is there a video or website that we can use to find private student accommodations?
The university website should have links to all the student accommodation affiliated with the uni. Search USYD and accommodation.
There’s tonnes out there now - UrbanNest, Flatmates.com.au etc
Will do a video on finding accommodation soonish
What do you know about USYD for a double Law and Arts (Criminology) degree? USYD and ANU are my tops, and I've just applied through E12 to go to Sydney
That Uysd program is very popular. A solid degree and well recognised. Very different to ANU, which is MUCH smaller and intimate. Both have their upsides and both are strong choices 👍
Loved this. Can you please do UQ

Hi! I got a 100% scholarship from university of Sydney today! I plan to do bachelor of science there but I heard that it gives out scholarships easily it’s nothing special and that it’s not that special uni. Please help!! (I’m an international student)
That’s awesome. Congratulations. USYD is definitely NOT just offering scholarships to everyone, especially a 100% scholarship. That’s a big deal!
Thank you :)
All this ranking data can make even a great university seem lacklustre when it’s not Cambridge or Harvard. Somewhat makes you feel like your employability is harshly affected, which I know is absurd. Hahaha
@@christian491 👍👍👍
You're not alone man, the system is all about pumping out that information.
The unis like making out that rankings are the be all and end all. Of course they do that - it's what gets them more students, grant money and prestige!
Likewise, schools and careers counsellors want to get their students into the "best universities" because that's what THEY get judged on.
The sooner you start ignoring all that the better.
I heard an awesome quote today:
"The meaning in life is to find your gift.
You’ve noted that you’ve worked within higher education for awhile, can I ask what you were doing?
which uni would u recommend for nutrition and dietetics usyd, uq or another australian university
Hmmm. UQ is definitely strong in that space. I’d also think carefully about Deakin, unless you’re absolutely fixed on studying at a Go8.

If you want to experience big city life then Sydney is a good choice.

Between UTS and USYD, they both have strong design programs. I would choose UTS for its strong industry linkages and awesome innovation and entrepreneurship focuses, also for being right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city.
If it's this program it looks quite competitive: www.uac.edu.au/undergraduate/courses/usyd/513965.shtml
That doesn't mean you won't get in, just that the entry requirements are pretty high.

If your budget is limited you should look at a regional university - Newcastle, Charles Sturt, Wollongong, Charles Darwin, Federation Uni, James Cook, Southern Queensland, Sunshine Coast, Tasmania. These will be less expensive than the metropolitan universities.
which would be d best university fr masters in business n management in australia if i apply fr scholarship?
Karan Bhandari I think you need to do some of your own research to begin with - your question is too broad. The only way of winning a scholarship is to be proactive, so research is a good way of developing that skill.
Is this a good university for American Students to study at?

Ah okay, cool! Which degree are you looking at?
A Life That Travels Business or Finance
Both of these areas are strong at USYD.
Does graduate employability really matter? If so to what extent? Does employers look at employability of unis?
I think graduate employability is a complex issue.
Employment is some areas is very much about the degree - highly technical areas or very niche areas.
But so often, getting the job you really want is much more about YOU and the things you've done outside the classroom - the experiences you've had, things you've been involved in, soft skills you've gained etc.
So yes, employers definitely look at this but it is not the be all and end all.

The good news Marais is that it will DEFINITELY be recovered from Covid by then!!!
whats the gpa to transfer as an international student?
You'll need to be a lot more specific than that - it depends what you're currently studying, how far through you are and what you're hoping to get into.
Got accepted but heared that the administration is very bad.
It’s a large university so you’ll need to be more independent there than at smaller unis, eg. A regional university
