- I'm back on campus at Monash University but... I'm feeling nervous. Every time I walk around a corner, I'm expecting trouble.
It's strange to be strolling around one of Australia's nicest campuses, one of its most reputable universities, and to be feeling uncomfortable about it. But I have a good reason for my discomfort and I'll tell you that story as we walk around campus!
In this video we're going to dive into some of the strengths and weaknesses of Monash, the pros and cons of why it may (or may not!) be the right university for you.
We'll talk about facilities, industry connections, rankings, student services and much much more, all while checking out what the campus looks like.
Is this the right university for you?
Hopefully be the end of this video you'll be a little closer to answering that question!
I love your questions - so don't be afraid to ask me anything down below and I'll get back to you!

Hi, Rob! I was really excited when I saw the update! Super informative!! I even applied to three unis after watched your videos! Thank you. Now, I got accepted in uq and usyd (I haven't got any news from monash sadly), and I really need your update to help me choose the best for me. Please do updates for both uni, too☺️ THANK YOU SO MUCH ROB KEEP ON GOING!!!
Hi! I'll get back to USyd this year. The UQ review is pretty recent (last year, I think?) so is pretty current. Thanks for the encouragement!
Woah, thank you so much! I can't wait to see the videos! I've rewatched the UQ video. You've helped me a lot. Thank you for the response, too, Rob! ☺️
I’ve been at Monash for a year and so far I enjoy it. Great student events and class learning. But yeah, it’s 40min away from city. Anw, thank you for your contents, they helped me for choosing my uni 😂
🙌🙌🙌
hey i'm trying to apply for monash unvi for Nov intake and i was wondering if you could help me out
Hi bro can u just reply me I got unconditional offer letter from monash and I was thinking is it good to study masters in food technology there
@@mohammedafzal9964 hi. sorry late replay. i'm not sure since i'm doing environmental and sustainability. and i felt satisfied with the program. it depends on the offered courses in the program. if that's aligned with your goals, it's gonna be good for you.
@@mhagaming3686 hi. i'm so sorry i didn't notice your comment. Is it too late to help? 😅
Love your videos, really informative !! The best in terms of getting to know a Uni. Thank you!
Cheers!

plz do an updated one for UNSW
Yes!!!! Pls do one too for UNSW
Good idea!
Hello Rob, I'm a year 12 VCE student looking to specialise in civil engineering and with VTAC applications being recently opened, I've found myself in a tough situation! I was certain I was going to choose Unimelb to take an engineering graduate degree package, but after reading about 2-3 people's experiences at Unimelb, I was left apathetic. Hence, my preferences have opened to either Unimelb, Monash or RMIT: Unimelb being prestigious, rigorous and theoretical in its curriculum but takes 5 years to become a fully accredited engineer, more likely to have like-minded colleagues and a 5-7 min walk away from where I live; RMIT being more hands-on, less prestigious and easier; and Monash being in between, having more industry connections, takes 4 years to become a fully accredited civil engineer, but 1 hour away excluding potential traffic delays. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! sorry mood swing. Please give me your words of wisdom :))
I can see the conundrum!
Not sure where you read the reviews but if it was on University Reviews I wouldn't pay too much notice - heaps of negativity on that site imo.
You should make your choice based on the strengths that align with your interests and goals. UniMelb is a kick arse uni with a killer social life and top academic programs and reputation. If you start there, and discover it's not what you expected, you can always transfer to RMIT or Monash - you'd likely find a lot of first year credit should transfer.
Honestly, 5 years vs 4 years is meaningless at your age. You've got plenty of time on your side. An extra year to me means a more rounded education, more time to get the most out of uni and more time to hone in on your specific interests. An extra year is not a negative.
All three of these unis are great. You've only read about 2-3 experiences, not 200. If Melb is close and you like the looks of it, start there.
Thank you! I have been enlightened.
Hello Rob. Love your uni reviews, very informative. I am looking forward to join Uni of Western Australia for Masters in Business Analytics, also have an offer from Uni Adelaide. Which one would you suggest?
Perth is one of my favourite cities in Australia. UWA for me personally.
@@ChoosingYourUni Many thanks :)
The IT Industry Experience for Masters was a horrible experience for me and my team at Monash Clayton. The Agile staff were very aggressive towards us and changed our grades towards the end of the project.
Sorry to hear about your experience. I have heard good things about the industry program in the past. Did you put in a complaint? Monash, like all universities, has robust dispute processes in place.
@@ChoosingYourUni I discussed it briefly with some of the academic staff, who by the way were fantastic at my time at Monash, it was only the Agile staff in the IE project, I was honestly just very relieved to put it behind me
Hello rob. Your video are very informative and fun to watch thank you for reviewing can you say that which is best city to live from Adelaide or Melbourne in compare to education and job markets
Thanks!
It's hard to say without knowing your specific interests. Melbourne is a much bigger city, meaning there are more businesses and work opportunities, but the cost of living is also higher. Some people find Adelaide "quiet", because it is much smaller, but I really love it. Both cities have excellent university options, so I'd really consider what kind of overall experience you're looking for.
Love your videos!!! Would like to ask a question, I am planning to do Bachelor of Commerce and have got offer letters from Uni Adelaide and Queensland and Macquarie, which one is a good university for an Accounting major and CPA Aus
Accounting is a fairly standardised program across the country because of the accreditation requirements. Overall, I'd probably go UQ, MQ, UoA, but that's also based on my personal preferences: I really love Brisbane as a student city atm, and UQ is just fantastic. MQ has an excellent business program and is in a thriving part of the city with lots of work/internship opportunities.
Hello Rob! Thanks for these videos, they're great. I was hoping you'd make one for macquarie seeing that it has jumped from 250 to 130 in world uni rankings and placed 10th in australia if I'm not mistaken. What are your thoughts on doing a bachelor of applied finance and bachelor of IT at macquarie?
That's good to know. I generally won't update videos just because of rankings because they can bounce around and, tbh, rankings are only one small part of the puzzle when it comes to choosing a uni.
On Applied Finance/IT, I'm very positive about those at MQ. The Applied Finance program is very well reputed, and mixing that with IT is a great combo.
I'll be starting university next year with a bachelor of engineering, and am struggling to decide between Monash, Swinburne, RMIT and Uni of Melbourne. I expect I'll achieve an ATAR of at least 80.
Uni of Melbourne seems great overall, but I've heard that it's a little lacking in engineering and has poor industry connections in this area. (Assuming I can even get 88 on my ATAR)
I've also heard that education in Swinburne and RMIT is much more practical/hands-on compared to Monash or Uni of Melbourne which are more theoretical. I suspect practical learning is better, but I'm not certain.
Swinburne will be easily the most accessible, but the others aren't too far away by car.
They all seem really good though, and I get great vibes from all of them. What are your thoughts?
I've heard similar things about Swin/RMIT vs the group of 8 unis. I've also heard that the industry linkages Monash has are super strong (e.g. they're basically co-located with the CSIRO, so there's heaps of connections there alone).
All those unis are accredited by Engineers Australia (www.engineersaustralia.org.au/sites/default/files/2024-07/engineers-australia-accredited-tertiary-programs-jul-24.pdf) so you'll get both theory and practical elements. Uni Melb doesn't offer an undergrad Bachelor of engineering anymore, you do a BSc and then a Masters, so that will take longer.
Overall, the study side of uni is only part of it. Campus life, how easy it is to get there, and extracurricular opportunities are all part of it too - so look at the whole picture and what works for you. Engineering is an in-demand profession, so all 4 will land you in a job and unless you want to go on to research or academia, personally I think whichever option suits you best will be just fine.
Hello Rob. Thank you for all the informative videos. They've been really helpful. I'm an international student and I'm planning to do masters degree in business analytics or supply chain and career prospects after graduation really matters to me. I was hoping to know your opinion about which uni to choose. RMIT, Swinburne or Curtin?
Three great unis! Depends on your overall goals and preferences.
Swinburne!
Hey, got offer letter from monash and unsw for masters in international business. Could you suggest which one would be best for business courses
Both are strong, reputable institutions.
Whichever is more convenient/affordable for you, UNSW is regarded a bit higher but it's not a huge difference
Hi Rob! Wich one of the schools (Monash, UNSW, UoSyd, Melbourne) have the best finance or accounting course? Thank youu
All good imo
I'm confused between Deakins, Macquire and Monash for studying Masters in Public Health. Any suggestions?
Three excellent unis in that space tbh. Sydney and Melbourne quite different as cities, but great choices in terms of unis!
Hi Rob, thank you so much for your informative sharing! I've got offer from Monash (Master of Business Information System, waiting for scholarship) and UTS (Master of Information Technology with scholarship of 30%), which uni do you think better, specially in IT and job opportunities? Hope to hear your advice! Thank you!
Both of those are super solid options academically. Sydney/Melbourne are quite different cities and the study experience will be different: UTS an inner city location that flows seamlessly from uni to city. Monash, an incredible campus with tonnes of clubs, facilities and campus vibes. Both have good industry linkages, so either is a strong choice imo
@@ChoosingYourUni thank you a lot!
Hi Rob! I've got offer from University of Adelaide (Master of strategic communication) and University of Canberra (Master of communication with specialization in either marketing communication or startegic communication) so which one would u suggest and pls let me know why I'm super confused..PLS help me
Hmmm, both good options imo. Hard to say which I'd recommend without knowing more about your goals and interests. UoA obviously Go8 so great reputation overall, and Adelaide is a lovely city - a bit bigger and more lively than Canberra, which is REALLY quiet on the weekends, but has a nice outdoor lifestyle. UC has a strong communications faculty, Adelaide the stronger business faculty imo. Overall, if I were choosing for myself and had no other restrictions in terms of money, goals etc, I'd pick UoA over UC. That said, UC has been storming ahead in recent years... but overall, still UoA for me. (But that's me, not you, of course!)
@@ChoosingYourUni thank you so much Rob..Would u pls tell me which field is in in demand in Australia? PR or marketing? since both the courses I opted for is related to these fields..
@@Carolvinianilneither tbh, but marketing is great if you pair it with another strong major
Hey rob, I've got an offer to study Masters in IT from Monash and UNSW. Which would you suggest
Two great unis. Sydney and Melbourne are very different cities, so I’d look at that as a consideration.
I am Surya, and I am confused about choosing a university for my master's in electrical engineering. I got an unconditional offer from Monash and RMIT, but I do not know which is better. RMIT has a wide range of subjects to choose from, while in Monash you can choose only one subject in the year on your own; the remaining 3 subjects are compulsory. Which university is best for me? I mainly seek industry-oriented knowledge for my future career. Both universities have their pluses. i really need clear advice and your experience, to make a decision, so please kindly help me here
Both are awesome unis in that space tbh. You'll get a great education at either.
My friend wants to do MS in Project Management i for this year’s July 2024 intake. Which uni is better considering job opportunities, cost of living, lifestyle, good exposure to industry? ( He has Shortlisted RMIT and Adelaide as of now)
Hard to say - both degrees are really good. Melbourne and Adelaide are quite different cities - Melbourne probably has more opportunities, but also higher cost of living.
For master information technology with is better RMIT or Monash?
Both excellent choices 👍👍👍
Hi, i want to do a law degree and have gotten offers from UNSW and monash. Which one do you think i should choose?
Two excellent degrees and institutions. Hard to make a suggestion without knowing your specific interests and goals.
Hey rob, which uni is best for doing masters in data Science
Depends on many factors like what you’re hoping to achieve, preferences etc
For msc nursing which is better
At masters level, it depends on if you’re looking at a particular specialisation.
Lol, right when needed 👍🏼
Awesome!
Hi! Would love a video on universities social. life. Australia has a reputation of having commuter schools but would love to see which ones are most famous for parties and social life!
That's a really good question. Certainly the bigger universities in the major capitals have busier and more active campuses and social life, but I reckon there are some surprises out there.
I'm working on a new project for Choosing Your Uni, so will be sure to include this!
