Fun fact about Neil Bonnett and his Valvoline car, his 2 wins in 1988 were run on Hoosier tires during the early of the tire war between Goodyear and Hoosier in the late 80s
@michaeljensen1817 that's correct. The Goodyear 500 held at the Thunderdome aka Calder Park. Track was a 1.1mi oval modeled to look like Charlotte Speedway. Hoosier couldn't do the race cause of not only Goodyear having exclusive sponsor and rights there, but also the very high cost to ship thousands of tires to "Land down Under". And yes Bonnett did win that one.
17:55 Forgot about Lucas Oil because there's barely any documentation of them in NASCAR. And I think we all know it was no contest that STP was gonna win at least via the numbers

I’m surprised Blaney wasn’t mentioned in the Pennzoil segment for his Roval win in 2018 and the Talladega win last year. I know Menards was still on both of those cars but Pennzoil was equally represented on those cars and they were a different scheme than your normal Menards scheme to accommodate for the Pennzoil sponsorship.
Dude, that 1996-97 Valvoline scheme brings back the memories, such a nice clean scheme. Though my personal favorite Valvoline scheme is Mark's 2000 scheme. The 12 Mobile 1 scheme with the Pegasus is perhaps my second favorite "oil sponsor car," though.
If this series ever comes back, we need one on branches of the military, plus the National Guard, which I guess isn't its own branch, but I'm 99% sure they have all the other military sponsors beat in the win tally. Definitely include Busch series and trucks for this one, because half of them I don't think were ever represented in cup for more than like a one-off at the 600 or smth. Don't forget about Jeff Gordon's defense-related schemes, either.
I take it this isn't counting non-points paying wins, because if they were counted, Neil Bonnett would have three, as he won the 1988 Goodyear NASCAR 500 at the Calder Park Thunderdome in Australia.
I believe had Davey Allison lived Havoline would had several more wins and at least one championship; I could see Davey retiring in early to mid 2000s as for post retirement, I could see him became playing similar role at RYR as Jeff Gordon has Hendrick Motorsports. I'm not sure who would take over the 28 after but whoever they would've been, definitely the pressure from Yates Racing and Havoline might be for his suddessor greater then it was in real life. 1993 and 1994 were some of the saddest years in NASCAR with the deaths of not Alan Kulwicki, Davey Allison, Neil Bonnett and Rodney Orr is heartbreaking when you think about it.
For the Thumbnail, you chose Harvick for Shell/Pennzoil and Jones for STP. Insane! XD Not like they're champions out there that won their titles WITH those schemes. In all seriousness, this comment is not to be taken seriously. At first I thought you wanted a next gen car to represent STP and maybe some of the other brands like Castrol in the thumbnail, as next gens are the current car in Nascar. Then, i saw Harvick at the back of that Shell/Pennzoil logo XD
As you know, Hendrick Motorsports maybe is the only team winning the championships with their oil relationship (Valvoline and Quaker State) which is also secondary sponsor like Jeff Gordon (4), Terry Labonte (1996), Jimmie Johnson (7) and recently Kyle Larson (2021).
Not sure how much they count, because they make motor oil additives rather than the oil itself, but Wynn's also has a Cup win, an upset with Lake Speed at Darlington in 1988.
Maybe the deciding factor on whether a championship counts or not is being a primary for at least 25% of the races? So any sponsor that is the primary for 9/36 races gets a cup. Idk, just trying to throw a number around for consistency.
Trust me, I literally had him in this script, but check racing reference and Jayski, Pennzoil is listed as the secondary sponsor. 9 times out of 10 the hood sponsor is the primary, but not in the case of the 2018 roval, as Menards was listed as the primary.
A few comments: 1) Bonnet also won at Thunderdome Raceway between the two other wins, but it was an exhibition (non-points paying) race. Interesting statistic/story though. 2) Agree with you on Larson. 3) Should’ve included Michael Waltrip in with Pennzoil section though he had no wins with them. 4) Should’ve merged Exxon Superflo and Mobil 1 together, though I dont remember if anyone but Rowdy Burns won with Superflo. Hahaha. 5) Agree about Stewart. 6) Long live the King!!!!!
Thanks a ton for the bonnet and superflo additions! Funny you say that about Michael and Pennzoil, they were in the original script but thought I would keep it to winners, so thanks for adding that as well! Thanks for watching!
Thanks a ton! I just subbed to your channel, make it fun, learn from your own content, and don’t let views or subs dictate your passion. Excited to see some of your stuff!
I will say this about the Valvoline championship argument. There are very few primary sponsors anymore. I guess you could go by a majority and that's all.
Pennzoil was listed as the secondary sponsor, which I know is weird since they were on the hood. 9 times out of 10 the primary is the hood sponsor, but there are those weird instances
So... Corey Heim driving a STP sponsored car at Dover this month was an illusion? Last I checked, the STP brand was still tied with Petty, and that was after they left in '03, stayed gone from '04-'10, and then STP reunited in '11 with Allmendinger. Petty and STP have not split since.
You forgot to mention Mobil 1 also sponsored Bubba Wallace (Which is the exact same scheme Tyler Reddick ran at Phoenix 2 weeks prior) alongside Kamui Kobayashi at COTA Yesterday
They were listed as the secondary. This is extremely confusing. 9/10 the primary is the hood sponsor. Menards was listed as the primary, and they got credit in the home improvement video. Great mention though!

I believe there was also an exhibition race in Austrailia between Rockingham and Richmond that bonnett also won.
What’s crazy is Castro has a long and storied history in sports car racing but, very little in NASCAR.
Havolie/Texaco, Needs To Come Back To NASCAR.
17:55 Forgot about Lucas Oil because there's barely any documentation of them in NASCAR. And I think we all know it was no contest that STP was gonna win at least via the numbers
It is a very scarce history, I’m glad I caught it!
If you want to know more about Lucas Oil’s history with the NASCAR look into their initial sponsorship of Larry Gunselman
Jack Sprague won 13 races and a championship for Quaker State in the truck series fron 1996 to 98.
Harvick's last win was at Richmond in 2022, not 23. He should have won the spring race at Phoenix last year tho. Man, that hurt.
Good catch! And yeah maybe I was just thinking about what should have been 😅
10:39 technically Suarez won in the Mexico series but I understand why it’s not included
That is a good point tho!
