  • NASCAR is a team sport much like many of professional sporting leagues around the world. Some of their teams have been around for over half a century, while others just entered the garage in the last few years.
This is NASCAR Team History. Much like many of our other videos, we look to do a deep dive into the history of NASCAR. In this series, we focus on the teams that field your favorite drivers.
Today we look at the NASCAR Operations of the once great Chip Ganassi Racing.
I appreciate all your support, thanks so much!

The reason why Jimmy Spencer attempt to qualify in the 42 car is because the 41 car was driven by road course ringer Scott Pruett

More than likely for owners points. Scott had a good finish.

This was my assumption too. A road course ringer for owners points.

Yup, the team also fielded the part time #39 for Pruett either the year before or year after. The only non-road course time they fielded that number was a Bud Shootout for Bill Elliott

I miss CGR being in NASCAR. It was neat having an owner from my hometown in the sport. I briefly worked for a car dealership owned by his family.

I loved CGR especially when JPM was on the team. JPM got screwed by NASCAR at Indy and him hitting the jet dryer will always be memorable
Edit: Kurt Busch having his run ins with CGR guys in the early 00s just to run with the team at the end of his career.

Ted Musgrave drove the 01 in 2000 after Kenny Irwin died. And said you'd never heard of Bryan Clauson. He was a USAC legend who tried his hand at NASCAR. We lost him at a midget crash at Belleville, KS, in 2016. He was unbelievably talented and a genuinely nice guy.

An interesting fact about McMurray (don't know exactly if this is true or not though): After McMurray won the Daytona 500 in 2010, he stated that he would go and celebrate by eating a Big Mac at a McDonald's... thus leading to him and CGR getting the McDonald's sponsorship and his nickname (Big Mac).

In fact all of his 4 Cup wins were with 4 different teams Sabco 99 New Hampshire the last win for the team Petree 2001 Rockingham also last win for the team Hendrick 2003 Richmond 3rd to last win for the number and MB2 2004 Kansas his and that team's last win. In fact Kenny Irwin sadly who took over the 42 would passed away at the same track months after Joe won.

Bonus Honorable Mention: Technically not a NASCAR moment but Ganassi’s back to back Rolex 24 wins in ‘06 and ‘07 were huge. Casey Mears and Juan Pablo Montoya were apart of those. It was the first time since 1986-87 that an owner won back to back Rolex 24’s and then in 2008 they added a third

And can’t wait for the Front Row video

You know when I see that logo and that those two numbers that 1 and the 42 I get instant nostalgia it's because I started watching NASCAR from around 2015 I will see there like 3 or 4 years old and let me say this the first video I ever watched was a crash compilation in the first car that got into my I was McMurray McDonald's car and after that I became a huge fan of him but after he retired I was like oh oh okay but guess what I wasn't watching NASCAR in 2019 add in 2020 I came back of watching NASCAR and I was like where's my boy why is he not raising the one and I found that it was Kurt Busch and the number one and also I was like what Matt kenseth raising the 42 because Kyle Larson got suspended and after they announced that they were merging with track house at the end of 2021 I set up here because mostly chip ganassi racing was one of my favorite teams growing up and every single time I see that number 1 and the 99 car immediately getting nostalgia of see what will happen if chip ganassi has he never left NASCAR but I have to say this I miss chip ganassi racing it was one of my favorite teams growing up and make the nostalgia for me and now the team is now out of NASCAR they're not planning to return but it was one of my favorite teams growing up and make the nostalgia for me and now the team is now out of NASCAR they're not planning to return but so I just want to say that hopefully track house gets but so I just want to say that track house is another new chip ganassi racing and when I see the 1 in the 99 i basically say chip ganassi 2.0
