  • Sanjay Mortimer of E3D left a comment on Vector 3Ds channel that I thought was worth looking into.
Sanjay Mortimer died of (currently undisclosed) causes on November 27th causing alot of chatter in both entreprenueral, maker, and 3d printing communities.
I will take a look into his comment, as many of us can relate. Thank you Sanjay I hope you are finally at peace.

I have found more context. The comment that triggered Sanjays comment was, "Sanjay is under some sort of influence, LOL" to which many people dog piled on. The pinned comment on vector 3ds video was taken from this.

Okay, thanks, but getting triggered by that isn't healthy. People writing such things aren't evil, it's still just a joke. It shouldn't matter to a admired public person. All of this is just a reminder to get into therapy if the world feels too hostile, independent from what really happened. Good video, btw.

@@sevdev9844 I tend to default to the idea that you shouldn’t type things you would be unwilling to say in person to the person you are critiquing. I know that is a pipe dream and untealistic.
There is a cost to saying this in person that people do not have to pay online. This inability to self correct from natural consequence is presumably why we are where we are at today. Require everyone to post an address for their online profile and watch most of this go away lol. Thank you for the comment.

@@sevdev9844 All creative people suffer from the so called imposter syndrome ("I'm not good enough", "what if what I do is not good enough", etc.). Put simple, it is doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud. It disproportionately affects high-achieving people, who find it difficult to accept their accomplishments.I see that a lot among composers for example (I am one myself) and joke or not, these kind of toxic comments really hit a nerve in some people because of that. They might be the biggest creative brains in the universe, they themselves don't feel like that, at least sometimes not. This is so sad.

It’s not that 3D printing community is filled with jerks, internet is filled with jerks. You give them keyboard and internet access, they will sh*tpost on anything or anyone.

I agree with that, but in person situations where you're dealing with technical hands on people... The online persona continues into real life. There is very little release when the online techie know everything, is also the real life in house know it all with bad jokes and backhanded compliments galore. Not to say Sanjay was in that situation but merely speaking for myself. My impression of ERRF 2019 there were many of these types. I used to work in IT. This personality is quite common. What they are doing is actually "projecting" if we don't recognize these broken people online or offline, it can take its toll on the talented.
      Thank you for the comment.

Just because 2 people passionate about a subject strongly disagree doesn't mean they don't respect each other. Their have been many times I didn't like someone's idea and then much later realize they had a point.

Jealous keyboard warriors, detracting from the those who give away ideas freely to benefit the community. The whole reason 3d printing is brilliant is the opensource nature of the community, obviously people have to make a living but they usually not intend to be the next Jeff or Elon.
Thanks for posting this video, hopefully it reminds people there are people behind those screens and our actions aren't without consequence.
The world & the sphere of 3d printing has just lost a fountain of inspiration and information.
    RIP SANJAY.

I totally agree with what you say. 3D printing seems to attract a lot of assholes. Once you go out there, share your work, discuss tech or express yourself in any other way at least one person will step in trying to ruin your day. And to no surprise exactly those toxic, bitter people contribute nothing to the community. In the beginning I also let those comments get close to me, today I just feel sorry for those people and ignore them. Enjoy your hobby, find like minded people on the way and create awesome memories.
    Godspeed to you Sanjay!

As an english man I recognise a classic English eccentric from the old days, now we can flesh that out with more spersific neuro traits. I can imagine to your typical amecica jock he can of like like an alien but this kind of guy is an Alan Turing, someone who invetents invaluable tech the future of humanity builds upon!

When I got into printing I was impressed by his enthusiasm and confidence in how he presented his knowledge. I bought the two Hermes units because of him and although I had an issue with making them work for me I thought of Sanjay as one of the top pioneers in the industry and shocked he passed so young. I’m equally shocked that nobody knew him well enough to report ANY details about him, nor any details about his death. Generally when a cause of death is so secretive it’s due to suicide or drug use. Although the cause is not going to tarnish my impression of him and his work I’m just surprised there aren’t any details, respectfully. I’m sorry he’s gone but curious what happened.

Does anyone know why his cause of death been kept secret to this day?
I think the only reasons I can think a family would do so is if it was suicide or drug OD
Poor guy. He was my 3D printing hero. I still watch his talk on the tool changer he created
