The effect he had on every single person in the 3D printing community was absolutely immense. I remember looking for my first 3D printer and considering trying to build my own because of all the cool things E3D offered. Without even knowing his name he started me down the path I find myself on today and I am nothing but grateful for this. His absence will be felt.

Thank you for doing this. The groups we had going 10 years ago were a lot more personal and there was a lot more comradery and friendship than there is today. Sanjay was a close friend to many of us in those old groups, and he was one of the reasons we're so far along in the 3D printing world today. After hearing the news yesterday I was really hoping that you would utilize your channel to make a video about him. Thank you so much for doing so. I'm still fighting back tears every couple of hours thinking about it, Sanjay was a treasure to our communities and not nearly enough people had the chance to meet him.

    Tom,
You're right, no one should ever have to make a video like this, but you did a wonderful job. I never met Sanjay myself, but through the interviews and other videos you did with him, it was clear there was a mutual respect and admiration. Sanjay seemed to exude positivity and a passion for 3D printing. I've watched your interviews with him at different Maker Faires numerous times just to re-experience that enthusiasm.
Sad as it is, thank you for helping memorialize him. No matter how much time you did or didn't spend with him, it's obvious you cared a lot for the man, and everyone in the 3D printing community owes him a debt of gratitude for all he and E3D have contributed.

I got the Big Box on E3D's Kickstarter campaign and was always impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm for his work. The video chats that were done to talk and brainstorm about the project were so entertaining and enlightening to me as a beginner, just got me more interested. You could tell how dedicated he was by how much pride he put into his products and not wanting to compromise quality for an extra dollar (or pound in his case).
My condolences to his family and friends.

I believe the first time I saw Sanjay, was in probably the first video on the Toolchanger. I was so intriguided by his presentation, that I immediately read every bit of information E3D had put up on their blog. His enthuiasm was contagious, and having built 2 cartesians and one delta, a CoreXY was the obvious choice. However, instead of applying for beta, I copied as much as I could from just looking at the pictures on the blog. Did a lot of Fusion to figure out the routing of belts and machined it on my DIY CNC.
Same Fabtotum belt layout and running Marlin 2.0 on SKR 1.4 with genuine V6 Volcano and Hemera Bowden. A real workhorse, that just delivers. Surely, Sanjay deserves credit for it, since without his enthusiasm, I would never have thought it was worth the effort.
    RIP

Lot of people don't know that Sanjay was the pivot for how hotends are shaped today. To put it crudely, our old birch laser cut assembled printers had metal blocks and throats. The throats went into big blocks of metal that were fixed to the motors. We either covered the throats in PEEK sleeves (ceramic UBIS or Craftbot) or blew air on the throats and big blocks praying nothing stuck to the walls of the throats. Then came E3D and Sanjay with their v6. He showed us we needed cooling fins much like radiators.
Today you see every Hotend has cooling fins (except that ugly mk8 on some monoprice machines). Hard to explain but Sanjay has permanently left his stamp on everything that we will ever do in hobby 3D printing. Appreciate that you are contributing to E3Ds endeavor to carry his legacy forward. ❤️

This actually hit me harder than I expected to, and I'm old enough to have lost more than a few people in my personal life. Obviously somebody I've never met personally, but his interviews were always fascinating. He was just so animated and passionate. When Nero had announced he has an interview with somebody big, I mentioned in the chat "oh man, it would be cool if it was Sanjay." And then it turned out it was, so I was super stoked to watch.
I felt a similar thing last year when John Conway passed. Somebody I didn't know, but I loved listening to him talk. But he was quite old, and not in great health. He'd talked about mortality some in his interviews, and what stuff he wouldn't get to learn before he died; math problems that take many generations to solve. He would have loved to understand group theory better, and felt unoriginal for wanting to know the solution to the Riemann hypothesis. But he was quite old when he died, and not in great health, so it still felt sorta normal.
Sanjay was so young, and so energetic. It just leaves a weird confused, sick feeling on top of the grief.

Quite right this deserved more than a tweet. Sorry for the loss. If memory serves, those videos with Sanjay were the first ones to rope me into your channel -- I was researching an E3D part, and TH-cam brought me here. Good choice.

Learned a lot about him and the E3D team, when I bought one of their Big Box 3D printers and they had several video streams / conversations with their community of Big Box Builders. Through this I discovered his witty and silly nature and how he didn't take things too seriously, except when it mattered. I am deeply saddened to learn that such a creative and innovative person who majorly contributed this field is no longer with us. RIP Thomas thank you for sharing this news and your perspective.

E3D saved me from a hotend crisis with my first printer. Sanjay and his company are legendary and have been a huge help to me. 💕

That's a bummer. He really helped build the 3d printing community.

I never met Sanjay but in every interview and interaction I've ever seen him take part in on TH-cam he is always so enthusiastic and geeky, he can barely contain his joy and excitement about what he's discussing or demonstrating and it's clear he's enjoying every minute of it. Such a loss for all, especially those closest to him

Sanjay seemed like such an amazing guy. It’s so sad to see him go so soon. His influence and legacy will never go away. He was amazing in our community

Thanks Sanjay! Years ago I bought a clone hot end of yours, it was good. Later when I knew better and could afford it, I built a farm and then bought several real E3D hot ends and they were/are excellent to this day, better than the clone and I thank you and your team for developing and manufacturing excellence. You and your team have touched me and have been an invisible hand that have made my dreams come true. Independence and manufacturing. Helping fill a need. I have a printing business now and it has changed by life for the better and I try to pass this surplus on to others. It's a shame on me that I didn't think to pass on this while you were alive, a mere exchange of dollars at the time was sufficient. Here we are and I think I owe you more. Your innovation has genuinely helped me and my family and my customers. Thank you sir and your team.

This is the first I've heard of this. So very sad, I really loved watching interviews with him. I loved that excitement when he would start talking about his projects, or about how something functioned.

I had the luck to meet Sanjay 3 times. At the Meetup in Sweden, where we had a great evening together with lots of awesome people from the 3d printing community and lots of beers. The second time at ERRF, where I listened to one of his incredibly interesting lectures. And then at MRRF, where they presented the tool changer. I will miss him a lot. He was such a great person.
