Will this ever come out (and for the Revo)? This is a make-or-break for the Revo Ecosystem. The lack of an high-flow variant and the lack of anything other than brass is killing me..

I would really love to see print comparisons between these new nozzles and other types of nozzles.

And then you have to throw it away because it got clogged with some inorganic particles.
I only use cheap brass nozzles. I never had to replace one because of wear. But I had to replace several nozzles because of unremovable clogs.

Currently im using a Nozzle X but often my Filament sticks to the Nozzle X :( Tried some Cloths to clean but i expected more from the Nozzle X.
Maybe the ObXidian ist better for me :)
The Nozzle for a Volcano with these properties would be great. It the quick change noozles in this treatment would be interesting.
There needs to be a standardization to move to quick change tooling for 3d printing. It would be nice if a robot would swap out a head for mass material filling and then switch nozzles for more finer/precise printing.

I wonder if this is still sensitive to cold pulls/brass brushes or not. i sometimes deal with clogs and not being able to harshly pull it out is a huge deal to me.

How does these hardened nozzles from E3D compared to the Phaetus tungsten carbide nozzle? Same coating, similar design...
The longer they take with releasing these, the longer their Revo ecosystem is at a serious disadvantage being unable to handle anything fancier than the absolute basic materials.
At this rate i think i will invest in a competing product.
I'm interested to know how these stack-up against the Zodiac nozzles, which I'm already very impressed by.

Probably not I'd guess. That's not an e3d product but they'll make all the sizes and types for their own products.

Try Fluorodur on it. If that doesn't destroy the hardened steel in the nozzle everyone should get one.

Markforged has been selling what appears to be the same nozzle, minus the E3D special sauce for years now.
Looks like the coating thats on Amana Spektra CNC bits.
Also in high-end bolt carrier groups in certain rifles.

Never wear? That is impossible, every type of coating will come off during usage. I want hard numbers not marketing slogans. Engineering is an art of balance between positive and negative properties against price and usability.
I'd say that too. We searched for that upper limit.
These aren't hard numbers, just my best recollection, but I think stats are that we are between 20-30kg and counting on our life leader. We have a measurement uncertainty of

@@SanjayMortimer Hey Sanjay, any comments on the heat transfer of this nozzle design compared to a solid brass nozzle or solid steel? Our beloved German chef Stefan saw something like a 10% decrease in flow in some conditions with a solid steel nozzle vs brass.
Looking at the outside of the design, I could imagine it being better or worse than traditional steel nozzles - less steel to transfer heat through but on the other hand an additional thermal barrier to cross (be it interference or swaging?). Knowing a bit about the E3D design philosophy, you don't tend to compromise, so it's probably safe to assume it's better or a small compromise. But, seeing that you're in the comments section, I figured I'd ask you directly.
I think it's also safe to assume that your target market for this product is not me, who is trying to get every last mm3/s of flow out of their set up. So I'm just curious more than anything.
Can anybody tell me why tungsten carbide nozzles aren't more popular? Seems to me like they'd be the end all solution
They are much more expensive to make compared to these with basically a ceramic/diamond coating(similar to the coatings they use for cars but high temp).

I am pretty sure another company beat them to it for the best nozzle and that is from DiamondBack polycrystalline diamond nozzles.
Seems like it just left kickstarter, I woudn't say it beated them yet.
@@devilwarriors5164 I ordered 3 DiamondBack nozzles when it was running. But E3D is also a larger company too so they have the extra recourses which I will give them that.
We can't share too much detail yet, but will do so in the coming weeks - the ObXidian nozzles different in many aspects - not just pricing and rainbows (!). After literally 1000s of hours of testing we're confident you will like them. A lot.
@@E3DOnline I will probably go and get one to try. It would be interesting to know where the ObXidian nozzle stacks up to a OLSSON RUBY which DiamondBack's polycrystalline diamond nozzles stack up too.

why not a titanium tip? doesn't that last longer than steel? nozzle x does wear and it was supposed to not wear. CF12 or even lots of 6 is enough to eat a nozzle x after several kg's
Information
Titan is very soft when it comes to abrasive movement. Especialy slow abrasion. It is with nickel alloyed some of the highest heat resistand metal but when you try to make a sharp knife out of it the edge will go blunt after 2 cuts trough paper.
Why? Because titan is not dense. It is leightweight.
Nonabrasiv-ity comes from a high hardness and density of the 2 materials that rub at eachother.
You can rub 2 diamons at eachother for weeks but their surface will change.
You can rub a diamond on a glass but then the hardness from the diamond will win.
Its all about balance.
A small inpressed tip made from a diamondlike material in a brass or steelbody would be a good combination. Because so the filament gets liquified and the nozzle not worn out fast.

Ceramic tubes are a way.

Titan is way to soft. Ceramic is better. Or harden steel. But it depends heavely on the usage. 1 Roll will show no wear but 10 will.
I know what rapid tool change looks like in the CNC industry and this is slower than slow in comparison.

Why use hardened steel instead of tungsten? Tungsten is much better for nozzles...super hard and no need to change temps to account for the thermal properties of steel.

I'm quite annoyed at myself by now for going with a micro swiss hotend instead of e3d...

I bought into the hype of Nozzle X and was sorely disappointed, to me it was only marginally better than a typical hardened steel nozzle and only worked for printing CF Nylon, I tried to push PLA through it and it was nothing but disaster. I recently bought a Dyze design tungsten carbide. We'll see how that goes, I want something I can print CF Nylon today and PLA tomorrow with little to no issues.
Revo will fix all my problems though, even if this is not the ultimate nozzle (looks much better than Nozzle X now that I know better), the ability to change nozzles easily will solve my issues as well.
with the hardened steel nozzles, you need to bump the temperatures up a fair bit, as the conductivity is much worse. Obxidian should resolve that, as it has the hardened steel nozzle tip, but conductive copper body.
@@DUIofPhysicsIndeed. I find it bemusing that most people don't talk about the problems with nozzle x. Winding up the temperature to compensate isn't a proper fix because in the parts the print where the flow is less the temperature ends up higher. This new nozzle should fix that, which is great.

I use a tungsten nozzle that has more thermal conductivity than copper and harder than any steel ever made. lots of effort to make something when a material already exists that beats it in every way.

Wear it out and I will personally buy you a new one, and a full range of Revo stuff out whatever you want. Just tell us how you did it, and where we can buy the filament from.
This is for filaments that can be bought by normal people, like you can't make a custom run of diamond grinding powder filled filament, which will obviously grind diamond. Because that's how they cut and polish diamonds.
It's going to get blocked up by crappy filament contamination in most cases long before wear.
I know of very few instances of NozzleX wear, all with very abnormal use cases, like printing carbides, alumina ceramics, strange radiation shielding. All not for sale on the open market.
This is somewhere between 10x and infinity better than NX on the wear front.
We've gone well into the tens of kilos, with our benchmark abrasive materials. We are unable to detect any wear. I'm fairly sure we have some of, if not the best people and equipment for measuring nozzles in the world.
If as much as handful of microns of nozzle or coating wore off we would have seen it. For sure.
We stopped once we considered it environmentally irresponsible to keep cranking through high value plastic.
You wear it, I replace it. I'll also pay the full consumed filament bill if you keep receipts and buy it responsibly as you go along, not just buy everything in sight that might possibly work.

You win, you tell us what you did, which materials in what order, which gcodes etc. Some modicum of scientific method needed.
That way we can improve, or at the very least put an upper bound on the spec, because right now we can't find one.

I've tried to find online reviews of their hotends and extruders but it's been crickets.
Seems no better than tungsten carbide which has been out. TC is harder than steel and should never wear. I'll stick with TC.
