I owe you fellas a huge THANK YOU. I bought the shoulder book at your recommendation and did the stretching for shoulders along with your videos. I started small with the seated stick stretch then work up to the full hang shoulder stretch. (Over about 5months). Because of this I have avoided shoulder surgery (that I didn't want anyways but was never told about physical therapy options). I'm now almost 90% pain free and I'm almost 60yrs old combined with years of shoulder pain!. Although my range of motion is still a bit limited, every day I'm improving, just being pain free is a huge blessing. G-d bless you. 😇😊🥰

Thanks for this clip bob and brad. I Dislocated my shoulder surfing. I noticed the wave I was riding was going to close out and I went to duck under the powerful lip of the wave and punch through to the back of the wave. Which I ducked my head under the lip but my arm got caught behind me and dislocated. Luckily it went back in straight away and I went straight into the beach. It’s been a week now in a sling and I have full range of motion on the wall walk. And I’ve been using your exercises. And already I’m noticing that after each workout I feel more mobile and stronger in my shoulder. Thank you.

Thank you all so much. I just found your channel and videos recently and they've very much changed my life for the better. I've been having all sorts of pain through my body for as long as I can remember and haven't really had the opportunity to get any professional advice or treatment. I've been trying out all the exercises and stretches and techniques for a few weeks now though - and I truly cannot believe how much easier it is to be awake now. Sincerely, thank you again and best wishes with all that you do.

Bob & Brad ! Thanks for the video! I have a question I hope you can try and give me an answer to. I have bilatteral labrum tear and have had that for 4-6 years now. I have also some hypermobility. Ive done recovery with some help for a physiotherapist(giving me some exercises) I have not been able to sleep on the injured shoulder for years and some pain because of that. Ive competed in BJJ/MMA for a decade. Should i seek an orthopedist that will try and operate my shoulder? many say that you seldom get alot better after surgeries..

Hey Bob and Brad, best physical therapists on the internet! Regarding a shoulder labrum and bicep tendon tear, with recurrent subluxation, would one need to get surgery or tough it out with a shoulder brace? Just starting hockey and forgetting about this recurrent issue, thinking of taking two weeks off and returning with a brace, along with PT up until then. Go Packers.

Can I request or suggest a video on getting up after a fall, assuming you've not broken any thing vital, I don't so much mind falling it's the getting up I find so difficult. Are these exercises appropriate for all types of dislocation or are there any specific ones I should be doing in addition to/instead of these? Or should I just chase surgery if I want to be able to do circus and aerial acrobatics again to a high level?

Pretty bummed. A doctor prescribed me a medication which I was adamant about not being something that slows down coordination (I mean I must have repeated that 3 or 4 times) he told me it wouldn't slow down my movements (I do martial arts) and then after a couple of days on the medication, it felt like it was delaying my movements and then I think I subluxed my shoulder and pinched a nerve in the same instance. Called another doctor (who boxes) who confirmed my suspicions and got me off of it. Now I'm worried I'll never be able to fully get back to my hobbies which were a huge part of my life. Thanks for the information

I had a thyroidectomy 7 years ago and my shoulder hasn’t been the same. I’ve also have loose shoulders. Now I am limited on raising on the side into the air. Every time I lift my shoulder goes forward. And it cracks multiple times a day. I always thought that my surgeons messed it up somehow like they popped my joint out (and never popped back in) during table transfer. I was told it was a nerve cut making me not have the backward and side motion but I don’t believe that. I also have some space missing by my collar bone, it’s caved in. Those drs aren’t in practice since the 3rd year post surgery to even ask.

I just had my right clavicle screwed and plated a month ago, and my doctor released me from wearing my sling 2 weeks post op. Problem is i still kept my shoulder and arm imobile even tho i was not wearing my sling, resulting to weakened muscles around my shoulder and gravity dragging my arm down. How do I know if is good to push 'my boundaries' or not? =/
I'm ok with pain. But there's so much texts out there saying that if I push too much I'll getting worse rather than better.
    =(
This 'mental' prision that I fell into its what hurts the most.
Please, someone tell me, what would be the truly safe action to take?

When I lie on my side my chest "folds" in and my shoulders get closer together. Is that normal? I have tried shifting more onto the scapula but usually do not stay that way. Is being thus compressed bad for my structure and/or my lungs?

  • @jeme7339

Leaning forward with my arm upon the stair railing helps stretch my shoulder. My shoulders are quite loose; I could touch my elbows together behind my back. I was told that this was very bad for my shoulders. Since my body could easily do so, was it harmful? I could also lie on my front and touch my head to my feet. Is moving one's body beyond "average" range of motion always harmful? How does one know where to stop?

I have dislocated my left shoulder about 20 times. Most of the times it just popped back to place, or I would have to lift my hand a bit to bring it back. twice I had to go to a doctor to put it back. MRI shows some tears in my ligaments. I have already done a surgery for my right shoulder. But there’s still pain, so I’m not sure about doing it for my left shoulder too. Will strengthening help me ?

Hey guys! Thank you for these great exercises! I just started doing these yesterday so I’m hoping I’l be ready to workout in a month or so. I subluxed my shoulder 7 years ago, and I injure it every few years. I just injured it for the 4th time about 2 weeks ago. I have a hard time doing work over my head for a long time. At work I have to HEPA vacuum large areas, such as basements, so it really hurts my shoulder if I have to do it for a long time. I also can’t do pull ups anymore so I’m hoping I can tighten everything up again to be able to do them. I can still do chin ups as long as I don’t start from a dead hang. Are there any other exercises you would recommend?

I am 46 and had a full dislocation. Recalling my history, I have had partial dislocations where it popped back in when doing various tasks with my arms at awkward angles. This time I was pushing a trailer on a downward angle with full force of my body, and it just slide out. I had it reduced, and 3 days later while showing and letting my guard down a bit, it dislocated again when I tried to lift a towel up to dry. Xray shows no broken bones and ultrasound showed no ligament pathology. I found your video very helpful to describe the mechanism. One serious question I have is as I wait for an appointment for to see an orthopedic surgeon, should I try some physio. I have elected to do some basic ones, but have also been told to NOT do so until I see the surgeon. What say you doctor? Thanks

    • @SaanichtonMinistries
      @SaanichtonMinistries ปีที่แล้ว

@@rmleider the shoulder is the slowest healing joint in the body in my estimation. It gets about .5% better each day even doing PT every other day. Do too much PT, and you could damage it again. Very delicate with the shoulder you must be. X-ray showed a boney bankarts lesion. Have not done surgery and for the first time in months can report the joint is getting stronger and feeling much better. Stilling doing PT regular, and plan to build up more muscle. Surgery is the last resort, as it could actually make things worse my doctor said. Lifestyle changes, be careful with it, and give it time to heal and prevent frozen shoulder by keeping it mobile. The rehab is extremely complex but not impossible. You must be balanced at each phase.

I dislocated my shoulder the first time about 20 years ago. I have epilepsy and every time I had a seizure it would dislocate. I had two surgeries to fix it, but my seizures would interfere with the healing process. The last time I saw a physical therapist he told me I had worn a grove in the shoulder because of how often I dislocated it. I’ve been seizure free for a year now (yay!) and I’ve been trying to get my shoulders in shape. I can still feel a small click when trying to do a shoulder workout, and it makes me nervous it’ll go out again. Is this something that will stabilize with further strengthening, or will there always be instability now? Would another surgery be able fix this?

I've had the surgery once and I'm also an epileptic 16yrs sezuire free, my shoulder was fine for almost 15yrs but last October 2021 it dislocated while sleeping, it recently dislocated again this past Thursday again while sleeping.
I'm a active little league baseball coach and skier. I would say get the surgery pending your age. They will not do the surgery until you're atleast 1yr sezuire free and controlled. Here iam looking up ways to strengthen my shoulder again without having to deal with surgery but at the end of the day, I'm sure I'm going to have to have my legitimate retightened through a arthroscopic labral repair surgery.

Hello doctor, I'm hoping you'd respond. I had an anterior dislocation a week ago, I'm 23, it wasn't a traumatic event, I laughed so hard and I landed on the bed on my left shoulder and it popped out, Got into the hospital and I got sedated to have it fixed back. I've been on a sling for 1 week now but my doctor thinks a cast is better for the next 3 weeks but it's too pricey. Please each time I drop my arm to carry out my hygiene, my Arm is so weak, too weak! It's my left, and it's not the dominant one. I can move my wrist and lift my elbow but the pressure is too much, I feel a pinch in my shoulder region too.
Please can you tell me what to do, my hand feels too weak, do I keep wearing the sling? Do I perhaps have an injury? I'm so hurt.

Hello, I just turned 23. It’s been almost two years since i was skateboarding down a bowl and fell directly on my left shoulder. i felt an painful and weird displacement in my that area. i tried rotating my shoulder and somehow managed pop it back in place that day but ever since then it has continuously happened.
it happens whenever i extend my intensely or instinctually or any awkward overhead position. it happens while i’m lying down. it happens when there’s alot of direct force from physical contact. say impact from another body. i’m super active and it has happens sometimes while playing basketball, twice while working out (pull up and standing shoulder press) and even once while swimming.
i’ve done nothing to treat it. after it displaces i feel a subsiding pain and swelling and the area is weak and susceptible to another displacement. it can happens a 1-5 times a week while in this condition. sometimes twice in a short time span. however when i rest my left shoulder and remain super conscious of its limited mobility i feel the area strengthen. after a while i become active again while limiting how i use my shoulder. i’ve been alot gaining muscle mass this year and feeling stronger and my shoulder hadn’t been displaced for two months until last week while lying down out of all things. my left shoulder is really weak now and has displaced several times with the past week.
i’m not exactly sure what’s happening to my shoulder but it pops out and i pop it back in. it’s time for me to do something about this. i’m hoping that this isn’t too serious and i can use my arms freely again without having to worry about this condition. i will start with these exercises. thank you!

The only real option outside of surgery is going to be PT to strengthen the muscles around the joints to compensate for the lax ligaments and tendons.
I also have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and my left shoulder has "multi directional instability" and PT helps but only for as long as I keep up with it.
Another thing I have found useful is massage if you can afford it. Therapeutic or medical massage, not just regular massage.
