Wow so I'm 20 years old still actively play sports I don't recall but I believe I had 2 dislocations in one year(span of 5-6 years since first and last dislocation((5 in total))) and to know 70% chance it might still happen again WITH rehab is nerve wrecking. Well here's hoping it doesn't because that pain is unbearable; almost passed out from the it one time. Great channel btw thanks for sharing your knowledge for the world to see, learn, and use. It is 13 days (8/15/22) until I travel below Gainesville (I live in Jax, Fl.)to see the shoulder revision doc. I am wearing a shoulder immobilizer but shower? I'm SOOOOOO paranoid!! Dislocated my shoulder in a bike accident in 2018. 6 weeks in a sling and the a few weeks of rehab and I was fine. Back to lifting and general physical activity.
Yesterday, nearly 4 years later, was sitting in chair outside in the sun with my arms up and went to move to grab my phone and it dislocated. That is right, I was sitting in a chair. It hurt horribly until it was popped back in at the hospital but now that its in a sling I have ZERO pain. Hoping its rehab again but not totally against surgery.

What if it's a posterior dislocation . With a possible fracture? No other testing was done other than the ER x-ray. Im 42. It's been 6 months. Still have pain couldn't finish therapy due to neck issues caused when they put it back in place. 😖

Hi! I am 39 and recently had an anterior shoulder dislocation and small fracture on the shoulder bone (right at the ball). I was told I also suffered axillary nerve damage. Everything I have read indicates that this is common in a dislocation and that the normal physical therapy suggested in a dislocation is sufficient, but I would like to know more about the axillary nerve, its functions and recovery. I am almost 8 weeks from the dislocation and still waiting to be approved to do physical therapy at all.

Hey so growing up I've dislocated my left shoulder about 9 times before having surgery 9 years ago. I had a bankart repair done. My shoulder had structural damage to the "ball" part. I dislocated my left shoulder 3 days ago doing archery, but my shoulder feels way better than all the other times I've done it. Also helps that I was able to put it in fairly quickly. My question is should I treat this as a "new" shoulder since it has had work done on before and just stick with rehab and exercise, or consider going in for another operation?

Thank you so much for the very instructive videos. My shoulder dislocates about once a year over very mundane activities, like putting a backpack on or reaching for my seatbelt. However, it never dislocates during strenuous yoga or rock climbing activities I do. I had surgery on my shoulder over 14 years ago, but I still experience dislocations during mundane activities just about once a year. I thought my yoga would be enough to strengthen my shoulder, but I guess not. What is going on? Why does it dislocate during mundane activities but not in strenuous positions I put my shoulders in during yoga and rock climbing?

I had a bone reshaping surgery due to chronic dislocation about 6 years ago. I haven't had problems since, until recently I dislocated from a physical altercation. I saw an ortho and asked if my previous surgery was damaged, but he did not seem to know. I asked for an MRI, but he said he only does those if he plans on acting on it due to cost. Should I see another ortho and insist on an MRI? Is the previous surgery not automatically damaged if it dislocates after it is done? Also, my insurance runs out soon, so I'd like to know if I should get re-surgery or not... Thank you.

Once it pops out, you damage your ligaments which are responsabile to keep your shoulder in place so the chance of re dislocation Is high like 60-70 per cent. If you dislocate more than once it will keep happening.

Hi I'm in the ninth grade and just had my second shoulder dislocation. I first dislocated my shoulder around 6 to 7 months before my second. I did it during football and decided to quit because I had 2 patella dislocations from football also. I did rehab on my née and plan on doing it for my shoulder. I really want to play volley ball but my shoulder says otherwise. If I want to play do I need surgery ?
PS I dislocated my shoulder the second time exerting a lot of force in that bad position because I served a volley ball in bad form.

Same here, about to get surgery for a shoulder instability, perthes lesion, I am actually looking into other options, like stem cells, if you have the money to get stem cells and prolotherapy make sure to check it out. The Osteo Center with Dr. Goddard or Regenexx, either of those will tell you if they can help. Stay faithful with your injury, this test will make you stronger!

I'm 45 years old and took a fall with my arm extended and had a anterior dislocation. I am active and I workout regularly and really it was a freak accident. The x-rays were good and i am scheduled for a orthography MRI. I really don't fell like I tore anything. I actually reduced the shoulder right after it happened by pulling on an oh shit bar on my truck. I have had previous rotator cuff surgery. The was a big knot on the top of the shoulder where the trap would insert but ice has reduced the size of that as well. I really haven't had to take pain medication either. What are my chances of full recovery. Pain mostly in rear delt and scapula. Thanks.

I'm 26 I first "dislocated" my shoulder when I was 8. I guess it was a subluxation tho, because most of the time it rolled in with my mom's help or myself by just wiggling a bit. It's happened at least 18-20 times on the right and twice on the left since then, most while I was sleeping or while stretching in the morning. 3 weeks ago I had a complete dislocation, it was out over an hr before I called 911 for help. I've been in a sling since then and going to get an MRI and start PT next week. My thing is my ribs kinda hurt on the side and my chest, neck, other shoulder and lower back are cracking alot and feel weird, I just feel like my whole body is thrown off. This is my first time getting treatment for my should problems and I don't really like my doctor, shes a surgeon and I feel like I can't really talk to her. I'm hoping my PT will be like you guys.

I have dislocated my shoulder over 10 times. At some point i had 4 dislocation within 6 months. And 8 of the 10 dislocations happened in the past 4 years.
I cannot raise my hand up high and can not bring my shoulder back in an upward position.
But simple tasks sometimes pup it out easily. Such as simply reaching back to get my bag from the back seat of my car when i am sitting on the driving seat. Or using my hand as a pillow for my head when i am laying down.

I had I dislocated my shoulder once 3 times in 1 year now I have had a total of 6 or lost count of how many dislocations I have had.
Once I remember I dislocated my shoulder was waiting for the ambulance they were taking too long time to arrive. So instead I decided to laid down on my stomach on a table and had the dislocated arm dangling on the side of the table. This trick relocated my shoulder by itself before the ambulance arrived.
It felt very nice as well when it relocated my shoulder without any pain or force relocation that the doctors do. This trick worked for me on that occasion but what do you recommend Bob and Brad? I looked this trick up if there are any information about it but have found nothing on it.

I'm 24 years old and dislocated my shoulder (anterior) in June last year. After about 2 months I was feeling pretty confident and was able to return to my usual weightlifting/calisthenics regiment. Today I again dislocated my shoulder. It has been 9 months since my first injury. The process is very slow but can be done with proper care and PT. My goal is to avoid surgery as best I can, however I'm heavily into martial arts and thus I rely on the ability to use my shoulder strength often. I plan to take my PT and recovery much more slowly thus time in hopes I can reach 100% again.

I have had 9 dislocations in 14 years (I'm now 31). I did go to a physical therapist after my last dislocation (indoor rock climbing) and she said that surgery wasn't ideal because I use my shoulders improperly and there isn't any structural damage. She said since I use my shoulders improperly I'd likely still dislocate it again after surgery and recommended reteaching myself how to move my shoulders properly. I feel my instincts will always use my shoulders incorrectly. She recommended rehabbing it on a regular basis, but also I struggle keeping that up. I am very active and I want to do those activities I once did. Should I get reevaluated? Also, are there any recommended shoulder braces/supports that can help reduce the chance of dislocation?

    • @wangkui
      @wangkui 2 ปีที่แล้ว

perhaps it is the reduced weak Deltoid and Triceps muscles which are causing the repeated shoulder dislocation issue. If it is the case, I can show you how to use an effective physical therapy to fix it, since I used to suffer from that. My advises are all free. You can use my this method to check your case: Take off your shirt and bow your upper body. Relax and let your arms hang down naturally toward the ground. Check if the sides of your shoulder have bones sticking out without being wrapped by muscles. You can compare the sides of your shoulder with a healthy shoulder. A normal healthy shoulder has Deltoid muscles wrapping the side bones so that the side bones are not exposed when your arm hangs down toward the ground. I can be contacted at wyatt1115@gmail.com if you are interested.

I had about 70 dislocations on my left shoulder before surgery at age 17. Yes 70. And just had my first minor slip/tear of tendons in my joint after about 3 years being recovered. It wasn't a full dislocation but it was a minor anterior slip like how you were demonstrating in the video around the 2:50 mark. I played full contact hockey until I was 19 then quit because I was diagnosed with hypermobility in my joints, but still play non contact now and other recreational sports such as golf. I also participated in some kick boxing training nothing crazy I would limit my punches too movements that don't hurt my shoulder. After this recent minor injury do you think it needs surgery or just some rest and PT excerises?

    • @brutalisaxeworth3024
      @brutalisaxeworth3024 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I have the same thing caused by skateboarding. I pretty much stopped counting honesty. So, I am in NO WAY a professional, before I even go further.
I've tried to do a lot of research on this and this is what I've found:
First: A shoulder dislocation is pretty dangerous. There's a nerve that goes between the bones in the shoulder that supplies feeling and function to the whole shoulder region. If that gets damaged, it can result in all kinds of crazy things associated with nerve damage like loss of feeling or chronic pain and so on. So it's kind of serious to NOT dislocate it further if you can avoid it. That being said, it's going to be really hard to avoid it. Surgery is the easiest option from the mind of a physician, but if you're aversive to it, you can try to get serious about exercise. For that, what you are trying to do is strengthen the components off the joint that is weak.
Some exercises target the interior of the joint, where the arm and shoulder bones glide across each other. On this side there is a membrane called the glenoid that keeps the shoulder in place. It isn't really a muscle, but a structure that's important for stability. Every time you dislocate your shoulder, you either stretch or tear this structure. Once that is done, that tear becomes a weak spot in that glenoid cavity, allowing your shoulder to easily slip through it again. This is called a torn labrum or a labral tear. You can search that on TH-cam to find exercises to strengthen the labram structure in the glenoid so that weak spot may get stronger possibly.
Next, the outside of the joint is the rotator cuff, which is a complex assortment of tendons and muscles. When you dislocate, these are stretched, damaged, or torn. You can also find exercises on TH-cam to strengthen this structure, so it may resist tearing or stretching in the future.
Last, there are the major muscles that do the heavy lifting for the shoulder joint and arm like the bicep, traps, deltoid, pectorals, and so on. These muscles encase the shoulder joint, and doing traditional strength training for shoulders, back and chest will help add strength for resistance in these joints. Go slow and easy and start light with these though. These also need to be done carefully and in unison. The last thing you need is a really heavy bicep and a really weak deltoid and rotator cuff, because a heavy arm is now hinged on a weak joint.
If you don't want to consistently do these exercises, and also understand that even with them, it will always be weaker because your skeleton now grew up with a weak joint, then you can probably pull off doing MOST things normally with your shoulder.
If you're NOT willing to do those exercises consistently, or you try them and you keep dislocation your shoulder anyway with no improvement, bite the bullet and get surgery so you don't lose normal use of your arm by severing that nerve when you have a really bad dislocation someday.
Again, not a doctor, this is based on my own research since you didn't get a reply.
      Cheers dude!!

I have an interesting case with my shoulder dislocation. So I dislocated my shoulder when I was 13 and after that it has popped out numerous amount of times. I'm a very active person and it makes sense how I'm very prone to reinjury. Over the years, I strengthen my shoulder by a vast amount. Currently I'm 24, I'm able to bench 100lbs over my weight, participate in the Army, able to do a lot of pull ups, muscles ups, climb and even break dance. It still occasionally pops usually from accidental falls now instead of overreaching. Pain goes away in about 2 weeks and another 2 weeks after I'm back at my full max strength again. Do I really need surgery? or is it better that I live with what I have? I also know how to safely relocate my shoulder back in with relatively no pain when it happens. I'm quite comfortable the way I am although I'm a always cautious about it.

Thanks guys, i am 42, and dislocated my right shoulder twice in a month's time recently. The first time i was throwing a softball from the outfield to the infield and it popped and i went down, as they were carrying me to the dugout, it popped back in place and i played the rest of the game and hit a couple of home runs to boot!
About a month to a month and a half later i did it again, this time i went down and didn't get back up and had to be rushed to the emergency room. Took 3 big burly doctors to pop it back into place. That happened on the 22nd of April 2016, so it's been a little over a month now.
My question is, why does it keep popping out? I've played baseball, football (flag), softball, Frisbee, dodge ball all of my teenage and adult life, had a arm on me too, i could throw the sucker really hard and fast. Why all of the sudden is my shoulder popping out of place?

Most likely we will all need surgery guys. I threw a hard pass playing basketball the other day and it just popped out. I have been to CT and MRI scans and the problem is that the more frequently you dislocate your shoulder the more loosened up the ligaments around it become and ofcourse most probably you severe your labrum every time it pops out. It is highly recommendable as we're young and want to do sports without limitations. At this point muscle strength is also irrelevant, you can either weigh 60 or 90 kgs, once your ligaments are loosened up, as much as ours, maybe surgery doesn't sound so bad... :)

You most likely all need surgeries as soon as possible and no more contact sport until you have had the surgery to avoid more dislocations. Only if you are very very lucky there wont be any damage at the shoulder by now. But even then you will need a longer break and a lot of shoulder stabilization workouts. The long term consequences of multiple dislocations are very serious. And also the probability of dislocationg again rises with every additional dislocation. Anyway what is definetley a must for you is seeing a doctor. Only he can tell you how big the damage already is. Most likely theres serious damage already

@Danto Barbarin Do heavy resistance training for your serratus anterior and your grand dorsals (lats), not only your shoulders. Emphasis on HEAVY (but hey be careful don't get injured twice haha ). The increased passive partial contraction and the powerful stretch reflex will give protection to your shoulder. However you will remain at high risk of injury from high energy impacts, where the stretch reflex simply isn't enough.
Edit: progress gradually towards higher weights, not all heavy in one go. Again, pace yourself (you are an athlete so you probably get what I'm trying to say). The goal is to build to to heavy sets, where your muscle will really benefit from strengthening its passive partial contraction and the potential of its stretch reflex. Your goal here is to make these muscles LESS flexible, so that when you reach the end of the safe range of motion for your shoulder, the stretch reflex of the muscles kicks in and keeps your shoulder in that safe range.

(Bear in mind that it was a post shoulder dislocation)

I sneeze and my shoulder pops out and has about 9 times over the last 5 years also periodically my arm will go numb and it feels like pins are coming out of my fingers.

I dislocated my right shoulder 1 time but after training it feels good and can do almost everything now. My left shoulder though, popped out 2 times. It feels weaker than the right shoulder. I can work out it with it but I want to go boxing. I get the feeling it will pop out if i get into heavy sparring. What would you say sir? Can i go boxing or should I just wait and train more untill it feels right? Or don't do it at all?

This is kinda funny but i get my dislocation in the most nonsense ways. I once coughed so bad then I got dislocated. I do not have the money for the operation so is it possible to cure it thru PT?

if you do your thera band exercise continuously you may have good luck but it's something you need to do for life, if I stop doing mine for a while ill get a dislocation

Can you have two surgeries in the same shoulder if it dislocates after surgery?

Not a doctor but I'm pretty sure an NHL player Vladimir Tarasenko got 3 surgeries on the same shoulder after continuing to have issues with dislocations.

Hello sir, I am 25yrs aged. I had anterior shoulder dislocation in my left arm last month and i was treated using closed reduction method. Since the possibility of shoulder can be dislocated again is more, My question is can i opt for surgery before recurrent dislocation?? i am planning to go for it after 3 months. is it a good solution to go for it before any recurrent dislocation.. Thanks in advance.
