It was clear from when you first met Mina what a bright kid she is and she's really coming into her own with the opportunities you've given her. Learning multiple languages at once is really going to be great for her in the future.
I wish we were coming back to that area this year, but we decided to put it off until perhaps Pee Mai 2024. As far as flights from the US, I've found the aggregation sites like kayak do seem to provide a good look at the best deals. I tried a bunch of different options from direct w/ airlines to aggregators to lesser known sites and it seemed I couldn't really get anything less another way. I did find if you book a trip such as fly to Bangkok then take the overnight train to Vientiane, it is much cheaper than flight to Vientiane (if you can afford the extra day). There are I'm sure other options out there, this is just what I've figured out so far.

Flying from California, I've always had great rates as a green level frequent flyer, booking direct with EVA. LAX to BKK via TPE was my old jam!
Hi Todd, just Reg flights, for example, yesterday from Brisbane, and there are very few direct flights to Bkk, so to Singapore. $800 to 900, return, then I book a separate flight to wherever, say Ubon Tani, from Bangkok, or Chaing Mai, then do a land crossing through Nongkai, at the friendship bridge, you are in Laos, catch a Took took, it's a much cheaper way to enter Laos & you get to see lots of other places. I missed Laos in Feb 2023, because the flights in from Cambodia, were way to exp, and didn't have the time. It was cheaper for me to go to Bangkok, then another local flight, then cross the border by foot, Sorry, so long to explain. Keep up the good work, I personally really respect the work you must do to achieve everything you present, you have great patience & passion that I really respect Todd. All the best to You, Nee Nee and Mina. 😊.

Love ya work Todd and love the fact that you just say it as it is. Well done. You and Neenee are an inspiration to say the least. It saddens me that you get comments from knobs and dickheads. Just be the best you can cause these people do not value life or have a meaningful life of their own. Update, just back from my trip to Vietnam, Japan and Mongolia - loved it. Scoot and Air Asia are my preferred airlines and find scrolling the net for accommodation or simply rocking up on the day to be the cheapest option in most countries. Japan hotels usually prefer phone or internet bookings so they can have all the paperwork ready before you arrive (manners), but always fit you in where possible. Hope to bump into you both one day and say G'day from WA.

Mina in the Gym. Not sure if this still occurs... I hope it does because it's a good thing.
In Thailand, all the children, especially the girls, when they start school are all taught basic self-defence, in the form of kick boxing- Every Child learns how at school.
I wonder if it occurs in some Lao schools and she's picked it up from other kids who might have been taught at school? I don't know.
I think it would be good to see Mina practice her skills on that troll.

I had a real nice comment about advising people to fly into Bangkok then catch a puddle jumper into Vientiane, and it got ate. Its much cheaper than flying straight into Vientiane. Ya might have to call the travel site to get the short extra flight because they dont show up in most searches. Saved me about $800 round trip from the middle of the US. Feel for me! Im flying back in March, and leaving with two guests who want to give the US a few months. $5K in tickets with luggage...........ouch.

Todd, I hear Laos will officially open Nov 2024! Do you know if you can fly directly to Savannakhet, Luang Prabang, any where else Laos was open pre Covid?
?? Hi Tony, I think the 'Laos open' that you're talking about about is just the tourism campaign for 2024. Laos has been open for more than a year now. Like anywhere the number of flights aren't back to pre-covid times, but even then you weren't able to fly directly to Laos unless you lived in a nearby country in SEAsia, you always had to fly to a neighboring country before getting another to Laos. Yes, Luang Prabang and airport is open to international flights.. not sure about Savannakhet.

Looks like the Xieng Khouang new year is delay this year to January. On what day is still a mystery. Supposedly the local government is holding a pageant in December so they don't want the Hmong new year to interfere with it.
