I don't really have the words for how much I loved this! I'm 41 and finally had that "AHA!" moment last year which allowed me to embrace myself as I am, and fearlessly try new things for simply the joy that they could bring - hooping among them!

I absolutely adore this -- I completely relate. I'm also clumsy, and got into hooping because I found that it was fun enough to keep doing, even when I didn't consider myself very capable. Eventually I became pretty good, but will never be considered a "swan." I love all the regular people making huge contributions to the hooping community shown here. I particularly love the elegance of your words describing clumsiness, and the whimsical illustrations to go along with them. A wonderful talk!
I am so grateful that TH-cam suggests videos over on the right upper side of the screen...thankfully, I saw this as a suggestion...and now, I am sitting here with tears in my eyes, SO moved and totally knowing it's the best thing I have ever seen on TH-cam...THANKS for....well...being YOU and doing this wonderful TED Talk...YOU, my dear, are SUCH an inspiration! Urška, this needs to be seen by everyone...TED, thanks for allowing this talk to happen and be shared...the hoop changes lives!
"Some talents are given to us by the Higher Power from the very beginning. They boost our confidence because they are clearly visible to ourselves and others. Some talents, however, are inscribed into us in the form of wishes. I feel that this Higher Power wants us to realize those talents when we mature in life enough to do so." Simply beautiful.
I'm glad there are clips included at the end, I paused this video so I could go see if I could find videos of the others lol. This talk is so uplifting and life affirming, in its way probably the most inspiring talk I've seen from TED.
Oh Urska! I am watching this with tears in my eyes. I am so proud of you. This is wonderful. You are a great speaker and story teller. You look lovely in that outfit as well. I have followed many of these stories from their beginning. You honoring them makes me happy. Seeing them now makes me happy. I am also so happy I got to see You at the end! Beautiful job. A fantastic talk. Thank you Urška. You are so right about moving past caring if you are a swan or not. I say do what makes you happy, as long as it is not harming anyone else. If others want to limit themselves because of their age and feel the need to try and impose those limits on others with nasty comments, then that is their loss. Ignore them and do your thing, whatever it might be.
