    I had a MacBook Pro that broke down about 5 times in 3 years. In the last 6 months it broke down and Apple replaced the whole computer for me with a brand new newly redesigned MacBook Pro that sold for 2200. So I got 4 years of warranty and a new laptop in the 3rd year. AppleCare is expensive, but when you need to use you’ll be very happy you have it.

    Great break down (no pun intended) of your incidences with Apple care Teoh , very helpful indeed . As an owner of multiple iPads , iPhones, MacBook Pros and one recent purchase of an iMac I have purchased AppleCare with every apple purchase costing over $1,000 . It seems to me that this cost threshold is my loss limit and prefer to have the peace of mind of the AppleCare . I have not had to use it so far but again I enjoy the peace of mind having it on extravagant purchases . Thanks again for your opinion and experiences .

    So I have a Mac Book pro. I also spilt 2 litres of water over it. I do not have Apple care. I went to apple to see how much it would cost to repair and it was almost the cost of the laptop! I got it repaired for £300 at a repair shop local to me. It came with a warranty of a year and it works perfectly! Glad i didnt pay apple, i think i would have just got a new laptop other wise.

    I bought an iPad Pro last year, with Apple Care. I had already seen your video regarding your IPad Pro 1 breaking down with no Apple Care, and I didn’t want to take any chances. I then bought an an iPad 2018 for my sister, and got Apple Care. However after buying it, I was surprised to realize it was only good for 2 years. I had previously bought Apple Care for products going back many years, and it was always for 3 years. Had I realized the plan for iPads has been shortened, I wouldn’t have bought it - I don’t think it’s worth it for just an iPad.
    That said - I just bought an Apple Watch 3 and I did get Apple Care, even though I think it’s too expensive. I’m quite clumsy and could see myself damaging the watch by bumping into something. I’ve owned many Apple products since 2008. I’ve never had to use the Apple Care even once - everything still works fine, even my 10 year old MacBook Pro, first gen iPad, and 10 year old iMac. So I’m not sure Apple Care has been a good investment, other than peace of mind.

    I purchased a refurbished mid-2015 15" MBP off of eBay last month from a company that sells refurbished Apple products. They offer 1-3yr warranties that have to be purchased within 30 days of the purchase and I'm down to 5 days to decide..lol. Had a hard time deciding if I wanted to pay money for the warranty but I'm gonna go ahead and just get a 3yr extended warranty just so I'll have a piece of mind as I plan to use this macbook for at least another 5 years.

    I bought applecare for my 2011 macbook pro way back. Within the 3 years that my apple care lasted, it was extremely helpful for the several times something went wrong with my laptop. I would've spent a fortune! Because of this I buy apple care for every apple product I've bought since. However, once applecare is expired, I recommend going to highly reviewed local 3rd party repair shops. Much cheaper than taking it to Apple. My 2011 macbook pro is still running and I do all of my digital art on it with Astropad. Although I do want to upgrade due to it running quite slow at times!

      Any of the iPad that can support Apple pencil is good enough for comic or professional work. So it's really up to your preference. If you have the budget, it would be good to get a larger screen size to draw on because it's more comfortable. 10.5 is good for portability, 12.9 is better in terms of size. Check out Macrumors' buying guide. I read that there might be new iPad Pros soon, like in Sept 2018.

    Teoh mentions a Mac Pro that had video car problems. I recently acquired an old (2006) Mac Pro and the video card burned out. Video cards get hot. Perhaps my problem was that I was running Linux on it most of the time, not the Apple OS, because the minimum fan speed in the Mac Pro can be set by software. I installed software to change the minimum fan RPM from 500 to 900. The machine is still quiet, but the video card temperature is much lower (there is also a program for Linux that reports component temperatures). Since the Apple OS is based on Unix (similar to Linux), perhaps it would be a good idea to see if the minimum fan speed can be increased via software.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried increasing the fan speed before. But I can't tell for sure if the problems I had were really related to heat.

    I have had Apple Care for all of my Macs. But, the Macs generally survived beyond the 3 year warranty period. The Macintosh LC did not require any servicing. The G3 required minor servicing. The iMac which is my current computer is well beyond its 3 year warranty period. I think that I took it in for servicing maybe once during the warranty period. Maybe, not at all. This iMac was built in mid-2007. But, I didn't buy it until 2008. So, it's a ten year old computer. When I had to update the OS from 10.6 to 10.8 in order to use the printer, it started having issues with the display. Because it is old, parts are hard to find and the service tech says I'd be better off just getting a new iMac. But, I don't really like what Apple has done to the iMac; so, I've been putting it off.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the problem with iMac. If the display is down, the whole unit has to be repaired. You can't reuse the display or computer.

    I started with the iPhone 5 as my first phone and upgraded every 2 or so years. Had no issues until I got to the iPhone 8plus and my friend hit me in the leg as a joke not knowing my phone was in there smashing the back glass. I wish I had apple care then because the price of repair was so high out of warranty now I’m at the iPhone 12 and yes I do have apple care plus. My @macbookprom1 is a LEMON with issue after issue after issue. I just bought it and @AppleCare will not replace it even though I've called or chatted with them 5 time with issues that keep me from being able to work. The touchpad would have a mind of it's own, beach balls would freeze the computer, apps like Numbers would disappear, the computer would go to sleep while I was typing on it. @Apple won't replace it... they expect me to fix every issue as it shows up taking up hours per week of my time.

  • @newfnshow031
    @newfnshow031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it is crazy expensive for a MacBook but then again if it breaks you might need to replace the whole bottom of the device or something and that would be way more expensive or replacing the entire top. It happens so even though I hate the price I would probably buy it considering how expensive the machine is. If I were going to keep the iPad and I was sure about the purchase then I would buy it because its really cheap to add... and the iPhone is the most likely of any device to break so you def need AppleCare on that. I. guess my conclusion is I don't like paying for AppleCare because it is expensive and the products are already expensive enough... but I do like the peace of mind I get after I swipe my card...
